Shaela (spelling?) went above and beyond for us. She gave us the information we needed to order efficiently and guided us to an order we were 100% happy with. Then, even AFTER we'd already paid and tipped, she gave us thorough recommendations for exploring the area, including doing research for us into what live music might be available, etc. Delicious food, wonderful service. read more

I was there with a friend a while back, about a year ago. The food was very good but the prices were threw the roof and portions are way to small. Great if you are on a diet. Our meal was almost $100 for 2 and there was no drinks or desserts. We waited in line for almost a hour. We had the thinnest cut of procuitto with bauratta cheese...terrible presentation. The meat was to thin that you could see the cutting board grains threw it. We had a pate. that was very good but TO SMALL!!!!! We had a great pizza, should have been 40% bigger or 40% less money. Pasta was wonderful but it was like a half portion. You need to order a starter or two, drinks, a main a dessert and then lots of water too. Service was 9/10 Decor ..whatever...5/10 Taste of food 8/10...value 5/10 portion size 5/10...having dinner with my best friend...priceless!! read more

If you've seen my other Nook review you will know I am a huge fan. Like huge HUGE fan. And i am very picky when it comes to italian. So when I heard that they were opening another Nook in Kitsilano i groaned a little. Mainly because it gave me some bad flashbacks of the Hapa Izakaya expansion days which did not leave a great taste in my mouth. Will another one of my fav spots turn into a local 'chain' diluting it's initial quality and cache? Well, i dunno. It certainly has a different feel from the Denman location although you can tell they tried really hard to use half the space in a similar way. The other half is a strange take-out/overflow area that is sparse and maybe not the best use of space. The staff behind the bar didn't have much to do as the entire space was really just overflow. Now for the food...it was good. The burrata appi was pretty much the same as I've had the Denman location. The pizza ...the margherita was great. simple, amazing thin crust. The italian sausage left much to be desired for me though...mainly because of the sausage. Meh, was kinda gross for me. And the crust was thicker and soggier. So all in all it's fine. And i'm probably being a bit harsh with three stars...but this a conceptual review too I guess. I feel like the Denman location isn't special anymore. I certainly understand wanting to bank on success but I just wish restauranters would take that opportunity and roll with it in a more innovative way...try something new, different food style, menu items. Maybe retain certain elements so that people get the 'brand' recognition. Trust that customers will cross a bridge to enjoy really great food and offer it in different ways...in different neighborhoods. But that's just me. read more

Good quality food and ingredients. However, the portion size is small considering the price point. Wait staff and hostess service was great, but I saw the male manager (maybe owner?) rolled his eyes after answering some guests questions. They also messed up our orders and food was really late to arrive. The male manager pretended it was normal and and offer no apology. Bottom line, if you messed up just admit it and most people are foregiving. AND Do not troll your eyesbehind your customer. They pay your bills. Also, we had a burrata and heirloom tomato appetizer. Didn't ask for the price. Turned out to be $20. It was good, but groosly over priced. In comparison, go to L'abbittoir and order the steelhead salmon salad. $16 dollar and it's phenomenal. read more

I would have given 4 stars if we didn't order pizza. Everything was excellent except the pizza seemed extremely oily on the crust. The lady beside us was very angry and upset that she had to pay extra for the cheese. That made us very uncomfortable listening to her complain loudly about how unacceptable that was. read more

Nook in Kits is a current favourite of mine. The "greens" salad is a great starter to split no matter the time of year. The spaghetti puttanesca is my favourite pasta on the menu. It's just so perfectly savoury and unctuous. Bottles of wine start in the mid-high $30's and are definitely a better deal than the glasses by themselves. If you arrive before 5:50 on a weekday, you'll have no trouble getting a table but anytime after that and you're in for a wait. They don't take reservations. The table right around the door inevitably get drafty and loud as the crowds start to line up inside the door. Ask to be seated as far away from the door as possible read more

Nook was sold big to me... While I wanted to enjoy myself there, I really didn't - both times we went. Let me first say that the front of house was terse and made some strange, cutting remarks. Perhaps that is their personality, but it's not doing the restaurant any favours. The second visit to the restaurant was subject to a, shall we say.. bad start. My party of 5 waited for almost an hour as a party of 2, 6, and 3 that arrived after us were ushered to their tables. At first we thought they had reservations (Nook doesn't take resos), but then realized we were being "saved" for a table that fits 4 at appeared to be getting ready to leave and then didn't right away. When we said we would rather we were sat at a table that would fit us, we were treated as if we were being requesting to be put on a pedestal. Not very nice. The lighting is unpleasant and the noise-level seems to be generally high here. It's high-energy. I think I prefer Italian meals to be a little less trendy and a little more classy. The pastas I tried, both times, has a bit of an off flavour to the sauce and the pasta was a little more chewy at the centre than al dente should be. Their Buratta with Prosciutto and Greens salad are pretty good but not enough for me to brave the din and the uncomfortable atmosphere. Sorry, Nook. read more

I came here accidentally! The famjam wanted to have brunch at Chewies but they looked closed... We tested the door just in case and after entering with ease and asking if they were open, we received a very rude no. Their door didn't display their hours and I was too taken aback to ask for them. So we walked down to Nook! We may have found a new favourite - hard feelings for their neighbour aside, my parents thoroughly enjoyed their sandwiches (which are made with their pizza crusts!) and I loved their spag bol. The chilli oil the server gave us was really tasty and gave the pasta a little spice (although there is some red pepper flake in there already). The heap of parmesan cheese rounded out the wonderful homemade noodles. By the way, they do serve brunch but only on the weekends. Thankfully they're open for lunch during the week too :P read more

I've been here twice. The first was to get takeaway (a margherita pizza) several months ago, which was very mediocre. I chocked that up to just being bad for takeaway. We went again today, and this time it was better, but still only "okay". I got the ricotta pizza and my boyfriend got the salami and a glass of chianti. The crust was super crispy (but not dried out), but the flavours didn't pop; I tried one of the olives by itself, and it was tasty, same for the spinach, and the ricotta. So i think they just don't mix well and cancelled each other out. My boyfriend said the same for the salami pizza. The chianti was unbelievably dry--like left us with cottonmouth-dry. The staff was friendly and the space was nice. If a friend insisted we go, I wouldn't refuse, but I wouldn't go again on my own. On a related note, two people with average appetite could share 1 pizza. read more

The atmosphere is great with a group of friends, a bit loud for a date unless you go early. Very small space, especially if you're sitting at the table by the entrance as there is no where to wait so people start crowding and standing around those tables. The wait times can get to over an hour and they don't take reservations or phone numbers incase you wanted to grab a drink at the local to kill the hour long wait. Finally, the food! The burrata and prosciutto was a great appetizer, but pricey at $18. The burrata could have used more salt. The pizza there was nothing to rave about. I tried the Italian sausage and the prosciutto pizza. Thin crust but not quite crisp enough to hold any of the toppings as you tried to pick it up. It seemed to be lacking flavour and depth. Their pastas were much more impressive. The gnocchi was cooked perfectly. The puttanesca was also delicious. A perfect balance of the salt/tangy flavour from the olives and capers that wasn't overpowering that you could taste the olive oil, tomatoes and the spaghetti. Overall a great place. read more

Their fresh pastas are well prepared and delicious! I had the casarecce with pork ragu. I love it because the menu isn't too big and so the items are always fresh. Try the pizzas. Excellent Neapolitan. And the focaccia appy is very tasty :) read more

We had what would say was a mediocre dinner here. The positives: cool decor, nice open windows, attentive waiters, pasta was nicely al dente. Negatives: we had to push the host to seat the two of us at a table by the window instead of dog seats by the kitchen. Not cool! The food was good, not great, but mainly I think priced too high. read more

The best part about Nook, was that I left and went to the Oakwood. The one nice thing I can say is that the hostess was great. Can I just clarify, the hostess not the server. read more

Loved Nook's new location. My friend and I biked to Nook on a nice Sunday morning in Feb. The place was pretty busy but there was no wait. The brunch menu is very exciting. They have really good starters. I could have only ordered starters but wanted to try their main dishes as well. The two of us shared one starter and two main dishes which was more than enough. We were happy with our food, service and coffee. We would definitely go back with more friends next time as the place is perfect for a big group. read more

Nook was great - our dining experience was simple and uncomplicated, and the food was great. Our server had so much personality and definitely added some pizazz to the evening. Despite the restaurant being packed to the brim, I didn't feel rushed and was still able to enjoy my night. Will go back. read more

Went for a nice lunch here with some friends. The ambience was lovely and pretty chilled out - our server was nice and extremely polite. We ordered a couple of pasta dishes and a pizza. The food took a while to come out but it was worth the wait. Everything was really tasty and everyone had completely empty plates in the end. Of course we couldn't pass up on dessert and ordered the tiramisu and panna cotta.. we were so glad we did. I'm already looking forward to my next visit. read more

We both got sick here off the pasta, which was more undercooked than al dente demands. Upset yummies for the whole night and next day, all for a good hundred bucks. Not a cheap place. Service was nice. read more

Water glasses tasted like soap, pasta undercooked and watery, server didn't know about the wines. Gave us diahreah all next day.

So if you've ever seen my review for Nook on Denman..you would see that I wasn't really loving the pizza. Brunch on the other hand...was a whole new ball game! I really enjoyed my experience here. I was weary when my friend chose Nook for brunch. I just didn't think that they would do brunch. Of course there is pizza but there are also some unique egg dishes. My food was amazing! It was scrumptious. I forget the name of my dish but it was a omelet with broccoli and had pancetta on the side. It was so good and felt pretty light and healthy. The service was friendly and pretty good. My waitress made me feel welcome. I would definitely come back! read more

Nook - Forget the name of this dish..but it was delicious! - Italian Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

They don't have the new location listed yet but Olympic Village location opened up 3 weeks ago. Line ups on the weekends but worth the wait! We did pizza to go and it's nice thin crust! We had pepperoni with garlic. You can get all the traditional pizzas or build your own. They have a great pasta and wine selection. I fortunately they don't serve vodka drinks as I don't drink wine or beer. A must try! read more

Wonderful service, great suggestions from the staff. The rigatoni was amazing!!! Of course I love lots of things in my pasta. The arugula salad and the heirloom tomatoes OMG! The White rabbit beer was good. read more

I came into the restaurant with 0 mosquito bites on my body. I left with 5 on my butt. The service was below par and one of the servers was actually quite snappy. The food was decent although on the salty side, but the mushroom pizza we ordered was SO salty we couldn't finish. Maybe it was because we were seated next to the kitchen but my friends and I left the restaurant feeling and smelling extremely greasy, not a good way to start the night. The upside- the pasta itself was very fresh and chewy, perhaps the most al dente pasta I've had. However, will most likely not be coming back due to everything else. Not only was the food salty, so was I. read more

Clean and comfortable dining room, excellent service and affordable prices. I was excited before even trying the food. I was not let down after the Ricotta Pizza, Gnocchi, Rigatoni Boscaiola and Casarecce. Perfect marriage of flavours and textures. Chris, our host was the epitome of friendliness, knowledge and personality. He was open and inviting and a pleasure to chat with. I look forward to dining in the next time I'm craving great Italian food. read more

Get there early as the lines start at 6 pm. I believe their pizza crust is one of the best in the city. Thin, fire oven cooked...just perfect spice. Limited menu but that is what makes the service so efficient. read more

We are visiting our son from TO. Pizza was very good but somewhat pricy ($13 vs $18) from what we are used to at Faema our downtown local haunt. Rigatoni was excellent. Good draft beer too. Nice atmosphere. Our waitresses was elegant and knowledgeable. Left my hat in the restaurant and it was gone the next day..hard being bald and losing your hat in a local Kitsilano haunt given all the rain. read more

I recently moved into kits and I love pasta.. I ate here a few times and it was ok.. Nothing special.. The gnocchi is good.. I give them that... But now there is an alternative just 1 block up from them.. Basil pasta bar.. And the prices are half and they have bigger portions... Nook lost me as a hungry client... At $16 per pasta.. I don't find a reason to stick with this place.. Maybe if I want pizza I'll come by.. Because they are the only pizza place in the 4-5 blocks radios.. read more

I'm still thinking about the cacio e pepe I had here in August. It's December...when I see that dish on a menu I know it's serious. It's easy to F up a dish so simple. It was exquisite here. Try it! read more

We left. The menu looked fine. Reviews fine. However, one of the people (a tall, white guy) super aggressively and meanly said our little, contained dog had to leave. We know that many places don't allow dogs. That wasn't the problem. It was the meanness of his attitude. We said why we were leaving and he acted like so what! My adult daughter left crying from it. Our poor waitress said she'd gone home many times upset by her coworkers attitude. Why is he there? read more

I heard good things about the Denman location from a few friends. Ended up at the Kits location on a whim last night around 7pm. First, to put this review in context: I recently dined at Ask for Luigi and was blown away by their food, and especially their homemade pasta. Nook's pasta did not compare, not in the slightest. I had the casarecce with sausage, and the sausage tasted wrong - taste and texture were all wrong. My friend and I shared the antipasti platter (with burrata) and it was all very boring and bland. I was completely underwhelmed by this place and do not plan on returning. read more

The best thing about this brunch was the company and 30 minutes of free parking given to us by the previous user of the meter. My lamb sandwich with arugula, green salsa, and an egg was good in theory but bad in practice. The bread which was subpar was drenched in oil from the lamb making the experience unenjoyable. Furthermore my friends dish, another special of poached eggs, seasonal vegetables, and sourdough dough bread fell short of the seemingly simple meal. The dish was poorly seasoned and the vegetables overcooked. The Americano was enjoyable but very strong. All and all, the staff and service was good yet the meal was overpriced and fell short of my expectations. read more

Wonderful pizza. Wonderful pasta. Check it out you won't be dissapointed. Showed up during a busy time but they sat me and my companion immediately. They serve Strangefellows craft beer so we're off to a good start. Wine recommendations are spot on. Food is definitely above average. I want to try other selections. Gonna have to make it another day. read more

Dont order the pizza with anchovies and olives. There is hardly any cheese on it and its basically just salty anchovies and salty olives. I am a fan of classic Napolitana pizza: tomato sauce, anchovies and mozzarella. Was hoping this would be similar, but was disappointed. The crust was tasty tho, and ambience was cosy. read more

Nook is the place to go when you're craving comfort. The casual Italian served at Nook is above par! I can't resist the Margarita pizza and my partner insists on ordering the gnocchi and mini meatballs every time. They have a Negroni cocktail on tap and it's a finely crafted cocktail! The service is always professional and friendly. Various serving staff always check in to see if you need something. Something I appreciate when my wine glass in empty. No reservations accepted but you can score a table between 4:30-5:30 quite easily. Good tunes played, no muzak here! read more

Delicious, delicious pizza. We were a group of five who came for an early dinner one Monday evening. It was only around 5:30pm but the restaurant was halfway to being full! The restaurant itself was nice, almost rustic in decor and dimly lit for the ambiance. The music was too loud and not to my taste. The server was friendly and helped me decide on a pizza. I was a little hesitant at first by the suggested Mushroom pizza-- I love mushrooms but I was afraid the cream sauce base would be too heavy, especially paired with pancetta! Anyway, I was wrong and it was delicious. I did add a topping of arugula though, so that might have helped with cutting the grease. The pizza is one of the best I've had in Vancouver, though at $20 I thought the price a bit steep for the size of the pizza (though it might be shareable between two people), especially since the arugula topping cost extra and I'm not sure if I would've liked it as much without the arugula. I would still would go back to try the other pizzas and pastas too! read more

Went for dinner for two people and ordered our food at 8:30pm. We didn't get out appetizers until 9:30 and had to ask for our main courses to go since it had taken so long. Others around us who seated after us received their food before us. Not a great experience and don't think I'll be back even though the food was pretty good. Ordered the special pasta of the day which was delicious and the prosciutto pizza was good. Liked the kumbucha gin drink too! read more
