It was our first time in this place. We arrived at around 1:30 pm on Sunday for lunch. Unfortunately they don't serve their regular menu until 2 pm. So we had to order from their brunch menu. To be honest, it's a bit weird for an Italian place to serve only brunch in it's prime lunch time. Anyways, We ordered a mushroom pizza and salad (which we had only one option to pick from the menu!). The food was amazing. Green salad with chickpea was fresh and well-seasoned. Pizza dough was crispy and toppings were all fresh and delicious. Apart from not having variety of options for lunch, food was great and I'll come back some other time to try their "real menu". Great place to visit in Kits when you're looking for Italian food. The pizza crust is crispy and thin, not burnt and just the right amount of airiness. The focaccia bread was loaded with freshly grated parmesan, it was literally snowing parmesan! The savoury taste paired with the olive oil and balsamic vinegar was an explosion of flavour every bite. Definitely worth getting as a starter. Service was pretty efficient and the food was delicious. I'll definitely be back again to try some of their other pizzas and pasta. read more

Let's start this off my saying they have great service, great atmosphere and great food. Now, how do we go up from here? They also have good drinks! We went a couple of weeks ago and tried their appetizer spread and three of their main pastas and they were delicious! It's a little on the more expensive side but a great place for a special occasion and definitely worth it. Nook is also conveniently located close to kits beach, making it the perfect place to head in the summer, but also cozy in the winter. My advice to you: check it out! read more

Lovely place right by the beach! Decor is clean, wood themed and cozy. Quite a spacious place with various seating arrangements: regular tables, bar and high tops. Their menu consist of open faced sandwiches and pizzas. We dropped by for brunch and tried something from the oven. It was delicious! Baked eggs with seasonal vegetables (brussel sprouts and asparagus marinated in onion jam), along with sourdough and prosciutto on the side. Presentation was beautiful, came on a wooden pallet (as I was expecting it to be a skillet). The egg was perfectly runny, not over done. We also paired it with an amber ale from four winds. Great meal to start the weekend off. Service was Lovely; Prompt and didn't feel rushed. I have been going to nook for years, to this location. The food is great! The menu has so many options you can go with. The vibe is also great. You don't even feel like your in Vancouver, all the customers that come here are always so friendly just amongst each other, that's how great the vibe is! The manager named Chris, always gives exceptional service. Every time we have been here he goes above and beyond. The main reason I come back is because of his outstanding service , and of course the food as well. Hands down my favorite restaurant in Kits and one of the best in Vancouver. Certainly one of the best Italian restaurants in the Lower Mainland. I went two back to back evenings and have been several other times. There's literally nothing on the menu that's not incredibly good. Evening 1 I had their Meatballs in Tomato Sauce. Excellent. Evening 2 I had their Arugula salad and their Caserecce with housemate sausage, oven dried tomatoes, castelvetrano olive. The flavor in the oven dried tomatoes sold me on ordering it again when I'm back at the coast. The staff at Nook is awesome. The pour wine generously, unlike any place I've been to. "Charred Bread Style" - this is the explanation I received from the waitress when I mention that my smoked salmon toast was very tasty but quite burned. I was also told that in the future I should request their lighter sourdough bread if I don't like what was served to me. As a frequent costumer, this is the first time I have heard or received this "charred bread style". So my suggestion is - if you are going to serve bread that burned to the crisp perhaps specify this on the menu so your customers may make an informed choice, otherwise please don't serve them bread that you have clearly forgot to take out of the oven in time. read more

Great place and the neighborhood is lucky to have this here. It does get busy and the only way to ensure you don't have to wait too long is go early. We had spaghetti bolognese (one of the few pastas that are not home made for a logical reason I am forgetting) and it was worth ordering. This tastes like the healthier version of bolognese with less sauce compared to the Italian american version with lots of pasta sauce. I enjoyed it. The prosciutto with burrata was fantastic and a must order appetizer dish. Wines were great too. Overall, lovely food, great wait staff and wonderful calm and friendly atmosphere. Great pizza! Seriously, that's the most important thing to know - the pizza is just excellent. We had the sausage and three chillies, and I wasn't sure what to expect. What I didn't expect was for the three chillies to actually contribute distinct and delicious flavours to the overall pizza, in addition to heat. Combined with a fresh sausage and delicious cheese, this is one of the best restaurant pizzas I've had. Even the crust was tasty, and I usually don't like crusts. That said, this location was a bit louder than I would have liked, and the enormous mirror along one side of the restaurant does add depths but is also quite distracting and even a little disorienting. The greens salad we ordered was okay, but tasted too strongly of bitter olives for my liking. But the pizza was great - I definitely want to come again, and I'd like to visit the Denman location as well. read more

The tastiness of their food and the consistent quality of their food warrants the 4.5 stars. Their pasta dishes- every one of them we have ordered on our visits - have all had consistently perfect textures with amazingly flavourful accompanying sauces and proteins and veggies and cheeses. Their pizza - while not comparable to the pizza served at cities renowned for pizza - was as good as pizza gets in the local area. The crust was chewy and charred in the right ways while being thick where it should be thick and thin where it should be thin. The cheese may not be so watery as to require it to be eaten exclusively with a knife and fork, but it was still totally suited to be a fork-and-knife pizza. Great pasta. Remember that 2 star means "Meh. I've experienced better" according to Yelp. Well,... that kind of sums it up. My girlfriendused to live near the other Nook and liked it so when we saw this one in Kits and I still had not been, we decided to lunch here. We shared only one item - a totally overpriced pizza. $18 and it felt like we ate an appetizer. Granted, this style of pizza is meant to be thin and it was not bad,.. but for that price it has to be better than other thin crusts in town and these days,.. there are way better (Via Tavere, Nicli Anitca etc.). The space is nice, and quite big, with windows that will open up completely, but I think I would have been served well to keep it smaller (though I'm sure it will be popular). The service was attentive, but somehow awkward (but that might be more my sensitivity than something that will bother others). The value just wasn't there if you share an $18 pizza, and then want to go for a full meal somewhere else, but location, location, location will probably make this quite popular. read more

Great place to gather for lunch with fellow mommy-to-be gal pals. Being on the carbs! I'd never been so my friend, a regular, ordered for the table. We shared a salad, pasta and margarita pizza which was all devoured so quickly that I forgot exactly what they were called on the menu. Service was quick, friendly and empathetic when our server realized we were all due within the next few months. We were grateful for comfortable tables with easy access to private bathrooms. At last! Kitsilano finally gets exactly the kind of sophisticated yet casual wine bar / restaurant that has been sorely lacking in the hood. Bravo Nook! I was there last night for the first time since it opened about a month ago and they knocked it out of the park. The room has a perfect blend of bar, separate dining and communal tables, good lighting, great music and simpatico staff. We started our meals with a fine Tantalus Pinot Noir and Blasted Church Merlot, the perfect pairings for a starter of Burrata soft mozzarella cheese on a bed of prosciutto, drizzled with olive oil and served with warmed toasted bread. A creamy, gooey confection this cheese alone is worth the price of admission. We added a side of arugula with shaved strips of parmesan cheese. The crisp nutty flavour of the greens offered the ideal compliment. If you just wanted to stroll over for a glass of wine and a nibble you could stop there and be perfectly satisfied. We however, were hungry so we progressed on to a pizza special of the day featuring pancetta, rappini (italian broccoli) and topped with a poached egg in the middle. Perfection! Their thin crusted, oven roasted pizza is served with house chilli peppers and chilli oil. Don't make my mistake and liberally sprinkle on these high octane condiments like I did - Basta! I needed another glass of wine just to put out the fire. Our server at the bar was fantastic by the way. Intelligent, well-informed, friendly, always available when we needed her, yet not intrusive. (note to all servers: that is so important!) Oh yes, and as she herself pointed out, stunningly beautiful to boot. Even though we were saited she convinced us that we really did need to try one of Nook's special house desserts. We agreed to share a chocolate ganache layered with caramel and topped with whipped creme. I wasn't expecting anything much, it looked like standard fare. Was I wrong. Sex in a cup, dig in your spoon, twirl and let your tongue savour the velvet texture paired with the interplay of sweet, salty ingredients. The perfect end to a perfect meal. The restaurant was busy, but that's really no excuse for bad service. Our server didn't check up on us once during our meal, however she seemed to really care for the other tables around us. Good neighborhood pizza and pasta place. It fills up early, all seats were full by 5:30 PM on the Saturday we were there. If you are driving, be aware of Vancouver's long-running war against the internal combustion engine, and be prepared for the prolonged hunt for an open parking place, and the multiple block walk back to the restaurant. The vibe here is positive and friendly. It is a closely packed restaurant. (Our table was less than a foot away from both our neighboring tables.) The service is attentive and professional. The ladies are a little more welcoming than the guy servers, who are good, but very focused on their tasks. As to the food, their pastas and pizzas hold up well to any local competition. If you are a Neapolitan pizza fan like me, these are close, not not full on Neapolitan. However, the toppings and seasoning are very good. (I had the 3 Chile pizza and it was a good choice.) These guys also have a pretty good selection of special salads, pizzas and pastas to mix it up for the regulars. As to pricing, this is not the cheapest casual place around. As I walk by this restaurant every week, I could not help but notice their open seating plan. Large windows that open to reveal the whole beautiful room. Last week, I finally got a chance to try Nook out and my experience was great. Arriving around 9pm on a Friday night, I was sure that there was going to be a long wait for the 3 of us. Instead, we were greeted promptly and were seated at the communal table area within 10 minutes. Water was served right away, and our drink orders were also taken. Efficient. They have local beers on tap, as well as a good selection of wines. I could not help but to keep admiring the space. It's really nothing fancy, but the clean styling of this room is what made me feel the most comfortable on this Friday night. Their menu has the basic antipasto, crostini, pastas and pizzas. We started off with the chicken liver crostini. I could have another plate of these to myself. The capers were a nice balance to the flavours, and I love anything liver. We decided to share 2 pastas- the Cacio e pepe and the Casarecce. The cacio e pepe was delicious. Such a simple dish of cheese and black peppers, the freshness of the homemade pasta really shone through. The casarecce was also good, they definitely didn't skimp on the ingredients. As well, we had the pizza with ricotta, baby spinach, olives and roast garlic. The pizza was just ok, and I would have preferred more roast garlic on top. Despite the room being filled up, we still got good and friendly service. But the real winner is their appetizer of 4 gigantic meat balls: moist, every bite flavourful, especially in dipping their in-house tomato sauce. This took awhile to make, as being cooked on a skillet really gives it that warmth, so not a dish if you're in a rush. Coming here for lunch, quite a bit already but since reading Gretchen's useful review, pasta will be my next choice. On the right, is their casual lounge. From our brunch visits, Nook was a fantastic restaurant with quality, authentic Italian food. Their service was impeccable, and particularly noteworthy were the great lengths our waitress took to find the source of our table-side pepper flakes. On a subsequent visit, Nook failed to impress us. To give some context, the restaurant uses a blackboard to determine the order in which people are seated. After putting our names on the board, we went for a walk on Kits beach, and then returned to see no names in front of us being crossed out. That didn't seem right as many parties had already been seated. Confused, I ask the host where our place in line was, to which he replies "your name is right there". Now utterly confused, I wait around to try and figure out how people before us could have been seated while we still remained in the same place. It turns out the host was erasing names in front of us and putting other parties in their place, because the blackboard had been filled. Although the host may have remembered all 30 or so parties on the board and their corresponding place in line, we decided not to take that chance and left for another establishment. I apologize if on the off-chance I'd greatly underestimated an individual with photographic memory, but for those with less impressive abilities, such as myself, it may be useful to have a waitlist in chronological order. Nook already has spectacular food - it doesn't need an antiquated blackboard to impress its patrons, so please do us all a favour and get a god damn notebook. read more

Very friendly and welcoming staff who were attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Tried the El Popo cocktail which was delicious and the Lampone (alcohol-free) with no simple syrup and it was divine! Yum. Came here for dinner with friends last night (Friday) at 6pm. Place was packed and they don't take reservations. I found it too warm inside and so I recommend wearing layers. Waited about 10-15 mins to get a table so it wasn't too bad. They are pretty on top of things! I had a lovely glass of Rose for $10 and the boys had their beer special. Think it was $6.50 or so. Our server was busy but on top of things and friendly. The atmosphere was cozy and busy, loud...seem to be very popular. We ordered a cheese and meat type platter that was impressive looking but I thought needed more cheese. It was $28 or so. My bf ordered the spaghetti Bolognese which he was pleased with because it was very meaty. Our friends shared their pasta dish with sausage and sun dried tomato. They were happy with theirs. I had the pasta special which was chorizo with artichokes and basil in spaghetti. I was disappointed with my special because there was not much to it. Tiny little pieces of chorizo, I think I counted 4. Very disappointed as I am a chorizo attic! This pasta lacked flavor and as a special was very boring. The pasta was $20 so I felt like a paid $20 for a plate of spaghetti. Came here with a couple of friends. It's a small place, right by Local on Yew Street. Wait time: It depends on the day you go but it is usually about 30 minutes to an hr. There is no waiting area and they don't take reservations. I'm not sure how the owner ( I think he was the owner ) keeps track of the wait list as he puts down a name and number of ppl. When we were there, he put down my friend's name on the right side of the board. He then cleared out about 6 names on the left side and wrote some other names on the left side while we waited. There were still some names on the bottom of the left side when he added more. Then he crossed out a couple on the right side and then another on the left side. After about 30 minutes, we got a table by the door and shared it with some others. That table holds about 6-7 ppl so we were by the wall, while a couple of others were at the end. Food: It was really good. We had the Rigatoni Boscaiola, Homemade sausage pizza, Greens salad and Buratta with Prosciutto. Also had some wine too. They were all delicious, well balanced and good size. Server: The server we had was awesome. She recommended some really good items to try. She kept our glass of waters full When our wine glasses were getting lower, she'd refill it with the bottle of wine we had Atmosphere: It is loud in there, both with people talking and the music. I think if they turned down the music a little, people wouldn't need to speak up in order to hear one another. I heard more of the music than my friends, and we were by the door too. Overall, was good. If the music was lower, somewhere to wait, and a waitlist that seems more predictable as to where you are on the list, I would have given it a higher rating. I went with a large group for Sunday brunch; I brought my two children ( 3 1/2 and 10 months). I was a little worried as I don't go out with the kids to restaurants often however our waiter was amazing with the kids. He was very prompt and patient, as we were that table that talked and didn't look at the menu. At one point the waiter danced with my oldest daughter - which was AMAZING! This is a great little Italian place across from Kits beach. I went with a friend who just moved 2 minutes away from here (lucky her!) so we decided to check it out on a rainy Wednesday afternoon. It wasn't busy at all, and the restaurant had a quiet vibe. We ordered the burrata appetizer with prosciutto, which was delicious, and a spinach and ricotta pizza (both to share.) The pizza had a thin yet tasty crust and also had roasted garlic, which was a great touch. The burrata was also delicious and drizzled with a smoky olive oil! I was perfectly full after splitting both dishes with my friend, so portions are pretty good. This place is a bit pricey, but again, standard fare for Vancouver. We also ordered a glass of white wine (I don't exactly remember what it was called, massi something??) and a peach bellini. As a bellini enthusiast, it was good, but not the best I've had in the city. I'm assuming people don't come here for the drinks though. I would definitely take a friend here if I was in the area. Oh man, so excited we found this place during this crazy Covid-19 situation. Some of the best pasta dishes I've ever eaten in my life and surprisingly affordable when factoring the quality and portion sizes. First of all, they do pickup orders for takeout. We ordered from their website the first time and called in an order the second time. Everything worked great from that standpoint and the pickup window involves virtually no contact (especially if you paid online). We have tried four of their pasta dishes and I can honestly recommend every single one we tried without any hesitation. Here is a quick breakdown of each dish: Spaghetti Bolognese - This is the star dish and is genuinely a must order. I know it sounds boring but I promise it will reshape your thoughts on this pasta staple. The meat is cooked and seasoned perfectly, the pasta is delicious and the sauce just brings it all together. Topped with a wonderfully generous heaping of Parmesan cheese. 5/5 Rigatoni Boscaiola - This was a surprisingly good dish and one that I'm not super familiar with. As with all of these dishes the pasta was cooked to perfection but here the cream/cheese based sauce created a gooey melt in your mouth sensation that will not soon be forgotten. The meat and mushroom components were similarly great. 5/5 Orecchiette - The sausage seasoning has an amazing rustic kick making the dish spicier than expected, but in a very good way. I was surprised to find only a light oil based sauce (was expecting more of a red sauce for some reason), but was not disappointed at all. 4.5/5 Rigatoni Arrabbiata - If forced to pick a least favorite dish it would be this but you're really splitting hairs at that point because it's still a fantastic freaking dish with a warm spicy heat in the red sauce that pairs perfectly with the rigatoni noodles that will remind anyone of simpler times. 4/5 Tiramisu - The perfect end to a magical meal. I'm normally on the fence about tiramisu but I'll be ordering this again for sure. 4.5/5 All dishes travel well with nothing needing to be heated up on our end. Went to Nook with a few friends from work. I was a little non-plussed that I couldn't reserve a table. In the end it all worked out fine but the place was full on a Monday night. Ambience - thriving. Sort of busy but friendly. Might be considered a bit loud but I prefer to call it lively. Beer Selection - OK 5 or 6 craft beers on tap. Menu - focussed. Antipasti, salads, pasta and pizzas. A few of each plus some additional pizza toppings if you must. A special of each on the chalkboard. I had the special pizza: white sauce with smoked salmon. It was great. Really well balanced cooked through without making the smoked salmon go weird. A few capers in the mix just lit the flavour right up. Great ingredients really well prepared. Had a great pizza and salad here while waiting for the Sunday Jazz Jam across the street. Pizza has good bubble factor in the crust. Yummy little bubbles that are charred a little bit. We got the pizza with the house made sausage and it hit the spot. Interesting papers on it as well. Check out the specials as there are cool things to be had there. I was there with a friend a while back, about a year ago. The food was very good but the prices were threw the roof and portions are way to small. Great if you are on a diet. Our meal was almost $100 for 2 and there was no drinks or desserts. We waited in line for almost a hour. We had the thinnest cut of procuitto with bauratta cheese...terrible presentation. The meat was to thin that you could see the cutting board grains threw it. We had a pate. that was very good but TO SMALL!!!!! We had a great pizza, should have been 40% bigger or 40% less money. Pasta was wonderful but it was like a half portion. You need to order a starter or two, drinks, a main a dessert and then lots of water too. I would have given 4 stars if we didn't order pizza. Everything was excellent except the pizza seemed extremely oily on the crust. The lady beside us was very angry and upset that she had to pay extra for the cheese. That made us very uncomfortable listening to her complain loudly about how unacceptable that was. read more

I've been here twice. The first was to get takeaway (a margherita pizza) several months ago, which was very mediocre. I chocked that up to just being bad for takeaway. We went again today, and this time it was better, but still only "okay". I got the ricotta pizza and my boyfriend got the salami and a glass of chianti. The crust was super crispy (but not dried out), but the flavours didn't pop; I tried one of the olives by itself, and it was tasty, same for the spinach, and the ricotta. So i think they just don't mix well and cancelled each other out. My boyfriend said the same for the salami pizza. The chianti was unbelievably dry--like left us with cottonmouth-dry. The staff was friendly and the space was nice. If a friend insisted we go, I wouldn't refuse, but I wouldn't go again on my own. On a related note, two people with average appetite could share 1 pizza. read more
