I came here on a mission for the ultimate Bò Kho (Vietnamese beef stew), but sadly, the search continues. The broth was very clear and greasy, nowhere as thick as you would expect it to be. I was especially disappointed that there were no carrots, that's kind of the heart and soul of a proper Bò Kho, and their absence was noticeable. The beef itself wasn't tender, and I found myself working harder than I should just to chew through it. On the positive side, I could taste the lemongrass, which gave the dish some brightness. But overall, the stew didn't deliver the rich, hearty comfort that makes Bò Kho so special. I also tried the shrimp spring rolls, and honestly, they didn't impress either. There was zero crunch factor, just shrimp, slimy lettuce, and vermicelli noodles. No cilantro, mint, carrots, or bean sprouts to give it that fresh, crisp bite. When I opened it up to investigate, the lettuce was visibly slimy, which explained a lot. Those ended up in the trash immediately lol

I'm no doctor, but it's my firm belief that a banh mi a day keeps the doctor away. Do with that what you will. I arrived at Mr.Pho expecting a fast casual spot, so I was surprised at the invitation to sit down. Once seated service was slow. After making eye contact more than a few times with the waitress...well...they were not the friendliest. It's very possible that I had a one off experience, but my waitress was very to the point, and delivered everything to my table without eye contact, turning their back to me when I said thank you. It was a bit uncomfortable. When the second waitress passed, I assumed they'd check in on how my meal was going, nope, she passed without acknowledging my existence to water the plants. To their credit, my waitress did ask how the meal was when I asked for the bill. Service aside, all is forgiven with great food right? The offering I tried were good, not great. The salt coffee was delicious but heavy on the ice. The chicken banh mi was sizable, flavorful, and balanced but the quality of the chicken was not my favorite. I found myself placing grissel in a napkin. Overall, the meal was not bad, and certainly a win for the offerings on this side of town. I'll likely drop in again, but I feel more inclined to order my meal to-go, atleast until I better understand the etiquette for this spot!

I like going here after walking at the Houston outlets. Always a filling meal at Mr. Pho! Pho noodles to meat ratio is good and spring rolls are always nicely wrapped. The mini waffles as dessert is super comfort-food level too. Would recommend trying out when you're in the area! Service is always fast and consistent. Restaurant itself is very clean.

The place was nice and quiet. Staff was nice, we had to ask for utensils since none was delivered even after we got our food. The pho was decent. My friend said broth was nice but their banh mi filling was under-filled. The viet coffee is good and strong.

On today's episode of BOUJEE or BOOTY: You guys, never in my life have I been gaslighted this much. First off, when we walked in, the restaurant was EMPTY and we should've known but my sister tried this place out and it was good so she was excited to show me. The waitress is clueless. She spoke both Vietnamese and English and we spoke to her in both, not sure what else we could've done to communicate with her. Still got our order wrong then tried to tell us that's what we ordered. Yeah ok. Then the food comes out and my sister finds a white hair in her banh mi sandwich. We called the waitress to let her know and she immediately called over the "owner." As soon as I open my mouth to tell her, she immediately cuts me off and says it's lemongrass. I'm like.... Ok but can I finish my sentence?? She then proceeds to gaslight me into thinking I don't know what I'm talking about. And that's what's crazy to me!! Like a simple sorry would've been fine. My dad is a chef and we deal with these things all the time. I wasn't looking for a freebie or anything, we usually just notify the waiter so they can communicate to the kitchen to be more careful. Regardless if it was a hair or a lemongrass stem, idc, it was the fact that she was so rude about it that got me. But anyway, ambiance sucks, service sucks, food dirty, and a waste of my time and energy. Attached is the picture of the "lemongrass." (Btw, she attempted to bring out some lemongrass to show us and it looked NOTHING like this "lemongrass"/hair that we found in our food. Final verdict: BOOTY with a side of gaslighting

Big portions, especially for the price! Service was super quick; food came out within 5 minutes of ordering. Broth was flavorful, and meat was very tender. Noodles were okay; could have been cooked a tiny bit longer. Would recommend!

Overall, I found the food to be very flavorful, well seasoned, and unique. My daughter and I actually ended up liking each other's meals more than our own, so we switched plates, which worked out well. We also ordered a few extra items, including wings and yams. The pounded yam was interesting and very different from anything I usually eat. It is probably not something I would go out of my way to order again, but I am glad I tried it and now understand a little better how it is eaten. The one disappointing part of the visit was the ordering experience. The young man who rang us up was polite, but he was unable to make any recommendations. He said he had been working there for about three months and still could not really suggest what to order. For someone like me, who is unfamiliar with this type of food, recommendations would have been very helpful. I would have appreciated some guidance on the most popular dishes, common choices, or what first-time customers usually enjoy. That said, the owner was extremely kind. She came out to our table, spoke with us, and helped explain how to eat some of the food we had ordered. I really appreciated that. She came across as a very sweet person, and based on her hospitality alone, I would come back to support the business. This style of food may not personally be my cup of tea or something I will crave often, but I respect the flavor, the care, and the local business behind it. I would give Bantu House four stars. It could have been closer to 3.5 for me personally, mostly because of the lack of ordering guidance, but the owner's kindness and the quality of the food pushed it to four.

It's been quite a long time since I was here and as I was in the neighborhood I decided to stop by again today. Remembering how good they were last time, I ordered the Oma's Frikadellen (grandma's recipe for all-beef meatballs). I like a good German meatball and these were tender and juicy. There was a choice of red cabbage or sauerkraut as a side; having confirmed they made the sauerkraut in-house themselves, had to order that because I know it's super healthy to eat. Better yet, that sauerkraut was almost perfect with a great flavor, but not too tart and just really a delicious version. Honestly I could've eaten a huge bucket load of that sauerkraut and I may buy some to go someday just to have it on hand in my refrigerator; a slight warm and it would be a wonderful side to serve guests. Dessert was a wow! I wanted to try a dessert that they made themselves and so I couldn't help but go with one of the dessert specials of the day. There were several options available not on the menu and although it was tempting to try the tiramisu or one of the three versions of crème brûlée they make, I decided to go with their homemade limoncello cake which turned out to be a delicious choice that I'm very happy about. Waiter Ty said it was one of his favorite desserts here and I could taste why -- moist cake, flavor-filled filling, whipped cream and with blueberries to decorate the plate. "Fine in a Pinch, Forgettable Overall!" 08-05-2025…read more I stopped in here during my lunch break during PD (Professional Development) week, my first week back at the high school where I work. The place was packed. Space was tight, with barely any elbow room between customers standing and seated, and the line to order was long. While waiting, I scanned the menu for a salad I'd enjoy, but honestly, their salad options were pretty limited and not very appealing. I ended up going with the Southwest Cobb Salad. It was... okay. Edible enough to satisfy my hunger, but definitely nothing memorable. I don't always use dressing, but I tried theirs and it was decent, tasty enough, though I can't even remember which one it was. That kind of sums up the salad: forgettable. The atmosphere during the lunch rush (11 AM-12 PM) was loud, busy, and a little overwhelming. Maybe it calms down later in the afternoon, but being in a packed shopping center right off Highway 290, traffic and parking are already hectic. Honestly, even walking to and from your car feels a little risky with how heavy the traffic flow is. Food Notes: Southwest Cobb Salad - 3/5: Mediocre at best. The black "crispy" tortilla strips weren't crunchy at all, actually stale. Big disappointment. I've had much better salads elsewhere. If you're in the area and absolutely can't find another deli or salad spot, this place is fine in a pinch. You won't hate it, but you probably won't love it either. Given the number of surrounding restaurants that offer more variety (and better flavor), I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend this one. Final rating: 3/5 stars. Very middle of the road.
