Great restaurant with delicious food. My husband and I always order takeout, we've never dined inside. Come to think of it, I've never actually seen anyone dinning here. Only takeout orders. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly. You can expect your order to be ready with 15mins. Be sure to visit the market next door while you wait. There's plenty of parking available in the shared lot. The menu is small but worthy. I don't ordering from DoorDash. You will over pay. Just call in and pickup. The ban mi sandwiches are small, I usually order additional appetizers. As I've mentioned the food is really good. I have been patronizing this restaurant for almost 5 or 6 years now, I never thought to review it because the food speaks for itself, plus if you see other Vietnamese people that come to eat here that means the food is good. I know that sounds kinda weird but if native Vietnamese people eat here that means it is correct in taste according to Vietnamese pallets, that being said let's talk about the broth in Pho. The broth here is nothing short of excellent you can taste the richness in their beef broth it has hints of star anise, cinnamon and a deep flavor of the beef which is usually diluted in other Pho restaurants. This is one of the few places in the Cypress area that my picky kids will eat Pho at, they don't add any extra sauces to their Pho because it tastes great on its own. Plus their other dishes are amazing as well. If you love pork chop you definitely need to try theirs it's to die for... it's a must have!! Ambiance is very nice here, basic yet has a homey feel to it. They have plants and a fish tank which is very cool to look at while eating lunch or dinner. Highly recommended place to eat great Vietnamese food. Prices are good a bit pricey in comparison to Bellaire but an excellent alternative if you don't want to drive all the way to China town/ Bellaire to eat Vietnamese food. Here we go again with another Vietnamese pho! lol What can I say? I am a pho-natic. First comes first, masks and social distancing are enforced prior to seating. After ordering, I began observing the decor in Pho Viet Mai. It was so cheerful and adorable that I felt it was Chinese New Year all over again. I'm a firm believer that your decor and tidiness showcase who you are in your setting. Black and white Vietnamese photos were hung sporadically on their bright orange walls. That totally made the restaurant so authentic. There was a colorful fish tank near the front entrance; so serene watching the fish while I waiting on my pho. Come time for the most anticipated, the food. This was needless to say, thumbs way up! I ordered the Pho Tai Bo Vien. Vietnamese translated to English: rare beef slices with beef meatballs in a beef broth with rice noodles. I usually get the sliced beef round eye steak rare because I don't like overcooked, dry meat. By the time the pho bowl is placed in front of you, the filet pieces are cooked. Even though the filet sliced beef cooked quickly, its tenderness was impeccable. Clear flavorful broth, uber tender beef steak slices, hearty beef meatballs, heaping amounts of fresh limes, jalapeños, basil, and bean sprouts were all magical right in front of me. I was over the moon with my bowl of pho and Vietnamese coffee. I also ordered two banh mi to-go. Choose from marinated pork, beef or fried egg in your banh mi. These are large baguettes stuffed with cucumbers, fresh jalapeño slices, pickled carrots and daikon. The staff today was mother and son and family friend serving customers. I've probably been here 100x before writing this review. So far, this is my favourite vietnamese restaurant in the neighborhood. I still remember my very first bowl of chao (rice congee) there. It has a solid taste, made me crave for the bowl everytime I think about the restaurant. However, she doesn't sale chao anymore due to low sale count . It's ok, i still love the place for it's com bo luc lac (rock and roll beef). The beef cube was very tender and seasoned just right. The rice plate also comes with stir fry bellpeppers and cubed fried potato which you can opt out. The owner is very down to earth. You jist have to let you know what you want and she will adjust to your taste happily. My other favorite food and my boyfriend and I usuay eat here is com ga nuong (chargrilled chicken with rice) and spring rolls. Yum yum!! Pretty much everything is good here hehe. We will continue to come often, especially on days that we dont feel like cooking at home . read more

It didn't taste very authentic and the flavors were lacking. The meat was bland and chewy. It was missing that salt and lime flavor. There was no side bowl of salt, lime, and pepper to dip in, but there was a side bowl of soup, which wasn't very flavorful. It was very light in terms of seasoning. This dish was very simple and not worth the price nor the empty stomach. I'm sure I won't be coming back. This would be a 3.5 for me. I was actually looking forward to eating Duc Chuong in the same plaza but since they had closed early (8pm) for some odd reason, I settled for this it was conveniently right there! It was about 8pm on a Monday night when we hesitantly walked in to thai establishments. I was in dire need of soup. The lady that took care of us was really nice, communicated well. We ordered eggrolls for apps, pho tai bo vien for me and a rice plate for the mister. I had asked for the eye-round beef to be on the side but it came overcooked it in my bowl of pho anyway. When food came out, everything was piping hot so that was a plus! However, they only provided me with bean sprouts, and no other herbs or veggies. I had to ask for it. Shouldn't it be automatic? The pho broth was very dark in murky in color. Took a sip and wow.. it was super sweet! Usually I prefer my pho broth to be more on the savory side, maybe a little more salt. That was just odd. Didn't taste bad but just not normal. The rice plate looks kind of bare. A few pieces of meat. The mister said it was really fatty. Like super fatty riblets. He also thought that was overly sweet. So at this point, we got our main dishes but not the eggrolls. Eggrolls came out maybe 15 mins later. Piping hot! I guess it was super fresh so I didn't mind the wait. It was tasty. Lots of fillings and fresh herbs. However, the fish sauce was overly sweet yet again. I think this restaurant switched out the salt and replaced it with sugar?! lol who knows but yeah. Eggrolls were the best part. Very fresh and tasty. Not a bad place but it's not suitable for my taste bud. Only until recently had I realized how concentrated the Vietnamese population was in the Cypress area of Northwest Houston. I was surprised at how many small Vietnamese grocery stores are thriving in the area, and some even have Vietnamese restaurants opened up beside them. Pho Viet Mai is one such restaurant, located next to Ca Mau Food Market, that could actually put all the Vietnamese restaurants in Chinatown to shame. The small restaurant looked pretty brand new, with bright colors on the walls and a clean dining area. Not what I had expected to find in such a small, quiet and rusty looking shopping plaza (if I were to judge a book by its cover). Our entrees came out rather quick, before our order of egg rolls. It might be partially due to my somewhat low expectation of the restaurant, but the first bite into the grilled pork chop that I ordered kinda blew me away. Compared to any grilled pork chop I've had at other Vietnamese restaurants, Pho Viet Mai's was not only perfectly marinated, but exceptionally juicy. I immediately noticed how they did not overcook the pork chop like most restaurants would, yet they did not undercook it either. A couple more bites got me squirming in my seat with satisfaction. The entrée came with a huge portion of rice, a sunny side up fried egg, very fresh veggies, and a side of pho soup. The gf's grill pork slices tasted just as amazing as my pork chops, and came with a huge bowl of vermicelli noodles and veggies. Definitely worth the price. The eggrolls came out later, steaming hot and extra crispy. I liked how they were a bit thinner with less filling, that way I could get a bit more crunch of the crispy wrap with every bite. read more

This place was amazing!!! I ordered the PHo Dac Biet (combination pho) it was so delicious! The broth was flavorful and full of meat! I didn't feel like I was running out of noodles. They had all of the sauces on the table like the chili oil, hoisin, soy , shriracha and more you won't have to ask for a straw, spoon, chopsticks or napkins everything was readily available. I was craving bun bo hue on a Saturday evening and there are not very many places in the Northwest area of Houston that I am familiar with that offer bun bo hue. I started to yelp some places and through word of mouth from another yelper, I decided to try Pho Viet Mai. The restaurant is in a shopping center with other Vietnamese places including a bun bo hue place, but it was not opened. The place was clean and quiet for a Saturday evening, and I was happy to be seated right away. Service is quick and efficient. Food: An order of shrimp spring rolls comes in 2 and they are cut in half. They were pretty decently sized and were very fresh, which I was happy about. Bun bo hue was very delicious. The bowl is HUGE and the broth was very flavorful! There was plenty of meat - I couldn't finish the entire bowl! My fiance ordered com bo luc lac and he was slightly disappointed that there were potatoes mixed in with his beef because he thought it did not seem authentic and it did not come with a side of lime juice with salt and pepper for dipping his meat, which he normally gets at other restaurants. All in all, I gave this place 4 stars because it fulfilled my craving for bun bo hue, but I am not sure about the authenticity of the entire menu just yet.
