(Ask for cilantro t o top it off for a yummy experience and a to go container for what you don't finish!) Their version of fried dumplings was unique and the exterior was lighter than most with the filling being meat. The spring rolls were a decent size and the peanut dipping sauce was good. Hubby ordered the pork bahn me (sp?(, and he really enjoyed it We're stuffed! My only complaint is that one song that played was really loud.... interesting hearing some oldies sung by a Vietnamese person... Wasn't crazy about the game decor either. Dang. I've been wanting to try this place for forever and had high hopes since the reviews are good. The food was okay and the people at the counter were nice, but hair/bugs in food is something I just can't look past. They do not have tapioca balls, not Teahouse type drinks! They have maybe 4 different drink selections that they can add boba, but that's it! And they do have fountain drinks. I got Thai tea with boba and my kid got milk tea with boba. They were delicious! But this is not a teahouse type place. They have more of a food menu versus a teahouse/drink menu. They might have hot tea and green tea but I am just guessing! Call before you go if you are looking for a specific type of drink. The inside was clean. Nice decor. A really cool restaurant that has a throwback to the 1980s maybe in 1970s games and toys now granted they are behind glass but they're still really cool to see the old Nintendo and he-man and Transformers. They also have some cool painting over the fun atmosphere as you look at the restaurant. The food is really good. We really enjoyed it over and got the I got a vermicelli. We also got some fried spring eggrolls. The broth was well developed some of that good flavor, but you wanted it to be a little bit more oof when you think about that to make it more desirable the other thing when you look at the add-ons it had for the fun could've really had more stuff to be able to be more desirable. That's what would've made it a five star so for example it's common if you're getting Steak you're getting like steak but meatballs and tripe and maybe even some brisket and so that just takes it to the next level. The vermicelli was a little bit light quantity wise was a little bit smaller than what you'd expect for the price. The staff were friendly and nice and quick at removing items and getting things like extra napkins or forks or chopsticks. Would recommend and if I'm wanting might be back. I tried this place since it was near my doctor's office, but I was not expecting to find such a good banh mi restaurant all the way up in Cypress! The baguette was very fresh and had a great texture. The grilled pork was delicious and all the other vegetable fillings were fresh and crisp. The butter was nice and creamy. Even my Vietnamese mom who is incredibly picky about banh mi enjoyed the one I bought for her! While the shop itself is a bit dark, they decorated the space, and they more than make up for it with super friendly customer service. If you're worried about coming alone, know that there are plenty of single diners there during lunch time and the space stays relatively quiet even when busy. As far as the beef banh mi, it satisfied my craving. They're heavy on the butter, light on the beef, and the jalapeño will not light your mouth on fire. Oh Retro , Retro where for art thou Retro? We used to go here all the time but we moved from the Cypress area. We were back in town for a couple of days and hubby had to go by and get some Retro Rolls. He absolutely loves these things!! We've tried a few pho spots around Cypress and honestly haven't been happy... until Retro Café. Wow. Finally--flavor that hits just right! Every dish was on point. The pho broth? Comforting, rich, and full of flavor without being heavy. The banh mi had that perfect crispness, and the wonton soup had that authentic taste I've been missing. Usually get my pho in chinatown, a few select places in the heights, or near midtown. Had to visit my dad in cypress so decided to try something new. Retro cafe is fairly small with about 5 tables and a walk up counter. Located in a strip mall right off the freeway so it's fairly convenient and parking wasn't too bad. Inside decoration is standard cafe. Fairly simple, some interesting video game wall art. Counter service was quick and efficient, the menu isn't too overwhelming with some apps, rice bowls, vermicelli bowls, banh mi, and pho. However, the big issue is pricing and value. Already pushing 13 to 14 for a bowl of pho or rice plate. The steak pho came with 5 thin slices of meat, maybe 1 to 2 oz of meat total. This is about 1/3 of what you'd get at most other pho places that are even cheaper. The rice plate came with maybe 4-6 oz of chicken, and no egg roll or anything else. Again, about half of what other vietnamese restaurants give. At least the flavor was decent, broth was flavorful. But don't come looking to come here to be full... read more

I really like the salad they give you with the vermicelli plate with the pickled veggies, and last time I ordered the pork rice plate I asked to get those same veggies and the owner happily obliged.
