One of the perks of moving to Cypress? Duck n Bao! I've passed by the Humble location dozens of times while making a mental note to return for Peking duck, so who would have thought my entry to Duck n Bao would be via soup dumplings, a Sichuan dish, and Kung pao brussel sprouts for takeout. Not me, that's for sure, but after a long day this proved to be an incredibly welcome dinner! The soup dumplings were plump and savory. The Kung pao Brussels sprouts slightly sweet and sour, and the spicy, crispy, chicken...well it'll numb your mouth, and it will be worth it. Somehow they've found the sweet spot (not literally) by creating that classic Sichuan tongue numbing spice, without creating a spicy dish per se. Apart from the numbness, the dish reads more savory than anything else. I do wish the dumplings came with either dumpling sauce, chili crunch or both, and that the crispy spicy chicken came with something to coat the rice (it's a bit dry with steamed rice alone), but all and all, I enjoyed everything I ordered and will certainly be returning for the full dine-in experience. read more

The uniqueness of the menu options is what caught my eye. I placed an order on Uber eats and I was hopeful that I would enjoy all the options I chose. The food came within the original stated timeframe, which was a plus. As for the food; everything was delicious and I will definitely order again. This used to be our "go to place" but after our latest visit, no more. We ordered a couple dishes, one of them being the eggplant. When it arrived it was SWIMMING in liquid. We didn't even finish our favorite dish because it was to liquidy, it was to sweet, it was just to much of liquid. We order this frequently so we know this wasn't right. Brought it to the attention of the waiter, he just apologized. "I'm sorry" doesn't cut it. Asked for the manager, he was MIA. Gee, go figure! "The inmates are running the prison". Could definitely tell no authority figure was present since a large table of previous customers wasn't cleared the whole time we were there. Got delivery from Duck n Bao for our first time and we did not regret! Duck n Bao has more on offer than your typical joint - Dan Dan noodles, scallion pancakes, Bao, soup dumplings, and so much more. We ordered their combo lo mein, orange chicken, hot oil wontons, pork fried dumplings, and Dan Dan noodles. We would have tried much more, like their beef or pork mains, as well as some bao and soup dumplings, but the total for this was already at $80 for the two of us and we just couldn't justify more than that. Their lo mein is the best I have tried, probably ever. It was super flavorful with the right noodle texture and plenty of meat morsels. Their orange chicken, while it was okay for delivery, ended up soggy. I know it was flavorful, so I blame it on the delivery container steaming everything along the way - I'm sure it's crispy in-house and I'm so grateful for the veggies mixed in. I have not had hot oil wontons or even seen it on a menu in a very long time so I was over the moon to see these, and they blew away my expectations. So good! This one is a must try, and so are their pan-fried pork dumplings. Perfectly fried and flavorful, everything you're looking for in a dumpling. The main reason I ordered from here ended up being this meal's biggest disappointment - Dan Dan noodles. I found Duck n Bao by searching for Dan Dan noodles and when I saw all the other things they had on offer, I knew this would be the first place I would try. Unfortunately, most of the noodles are plain and stick together because they put all the sauce on the bottom, which isn't enough, and by the time it gets to you, it's hard to toss the noodles in the sauce because they've congealed together. The meat was hardly seasoned. What I did end up doing was finishing up the hot oil wontons and then tossing the Dan Dan noodles in that liquid - totally saved it. Unfortunately, I won't order them again unless I also get the hot oil wontons to elevate them. Without a doubt not worth $10. Overall, very good option for delivery, but not completely blown away. I was visiting from out of town and really wanted Chinese food, and this place was a great find! Their hot and sour soup came out steaming hot and was perfect for 2 people to share. Their combination fried rice was delicious, especially with the bok choi-- which we asked for it be stir fried with garlic and dry chili. The only disappointing item was the pork soup dumpling, which was very overwhelming with the taste of vinegar in the filling. This food was absolutely amazing and I only tried two things!!! I ordered the Pan Fried Pork Dumplings and Stir Fried String Beans. The dumplings had a nice flavor, they were meaty, the texture was good and I enjoyed the dipping sauce. The stir fried string beans were 10/10 divine!! The aromatic flavors of the onion, garlic, and spices made the dish taste so good. They were tender but also had a good crunch to them. The portion size was good too. Anyone thinking about these should try them, they're addicting. My only complaint is that for the price I wish the string beans came with white rice. Had a late lunch and the service was extremely slow. We ordered a few dishes that our usually our go-to at other restaurants. The first item to arrive was the hot & sour soup for the table. The soup was room temp. We sent it back and I'm not sure what they did but it came back with more than what we got initially. I'll come back to the soup in a bit. The other dishes that arrived shortly and we noticed that some dishes were room temp as well. We ended up taking the rest of the hot & sour soup home to find a piece of plastic in the soup?? It was swimming in oil and tasted vaguely of either fish sauce or shrimp. The rice on the side was completely over cooked and mushy. It was not edible. I just left it. Yuck. There was a large variety of food for all things chicken, pork, beef, and seafood. It smelled good, tasted unique, and the appetizers came to our table quickly with good heat and taste! My family and I had a great time - the restaurant had good privacy at the booths, and the servers were fairly attentive to our needs. The only hiccups we ran into were that the table wasn't completely clean when we arrived, and my friend was accidentally charged for an extra drink. The waiter did give us time to review the receipt before we paid though, so this was our error too. We had a great time, and look forward to coming back! read more

As a Cypress native, I honestly have pretty low expectations for Asian food establishments in the area. However, Duck n Bao was not too bad. I would say, my first impression wasn't that good as we were hit with a cleaning solution smell right when we walked in and the menus were sticky. Luckily, the food was better than the initial impression. We ordered the Pork Soup Dumplings, Stir-Fried Rice Noodles w/ Beef, Tea Leaf Smoked Pork Ribs, and Stir Fried String Beans. All of which were solid options. My personal favorite was the string beans. It was thoroughly seasoned with the perfect amount of crunch. I would definitely come back for these. Likely the best and most authentic Chinese food restaurant in the cypress area. There's traditional sichuan offerings as well as the American food like Orange Chicken for you uninitiated types. They have a nice little selection of dim sum smaller dishes as well as the Peking Duck. The service has always been exactly what it needs to be, just attentive enough and plenty nice. I've ordered here for Thanksgiving and come in when my power was out during the freeze in 2021, they're always ready to serve. There's a neat area to watch some of the chefs make baos and dumplings, and overall inside it feels like a Chinese restaurant that you'd find in any suburban neighborhood. The food has always been spot on and I have yet to have anything that didn't taste great, even if it's not my favorite item. Kung Pai Chicken, Peking Duck, Pork Soup Dumplings, Stif Fried String Bean, and Cumin Lamb are some of my go to's. My recommendations is to not try something you could order at Panda Express and you'll have a good time. read more

Panda Express is a higher quality than this place. The chef must have just quit! We spent $110 and threw most of it in the trash. The chicken in the general tso chicken sauce was processed chicken nuggets and the sauce was not good. Make no mistake, the service is impeccable! Krystha was a real gem. She was very pleasant soft-spoken and genuine. She was all alone on the front end. She was bartender, waitress, uber food runner, bar back...she was doing it all! Zero down time for her, between customers she was meticulously polishing the clean glasses in the bar area. Kudos to her! The food, not so great for me. I ordered the kung pao brussel sprouts appetizer. I was very excited to try these as I love grilled Brussel sprouts, unfortunately they were a big disappointment. They are either frozen-bag in the box or are made earlier in the day and warmed up when ordered. They came out within three minutes of me ordering. I then ordered the kung pao chicken with fried rice. The dish had a very unusual flavor for Kung pao chicken. It was not pleasant at all, tolerable, but not pleasant. One of the ingredients were these red peppers, they were not chewable at all. Each bite felt like I had a piece of plastic mixed in with my food. I had to pick it out of nearly evert bite. There was sewer odor once I opened the door. The restaurant has ample seating for small and big groups. I was quickly seated, and staff were attentive. Food came out pretty fast. I had the pork soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings, Dan Dan noodle, stir-fried rice noodle with beef, and house special boiled fish fillet. The pork soup dumplings had lotsa soup in individual dumplings but the pork and soup were too salty. The pan fried dumplings were sitting on a bed of oil when served. That's bad. The Dan Dan noodle's sauce was too salty. However the noodle texture was good. The stir-fried rice noodle didn't have much flavor, and had only a few slices of beef. Lastly, the house special boiled fish fillet was of the right spice level. The fish fillets were tender. There were black fungus and bean sprouts in the bowl too. Overall the dish was ok. We decided to try this place since we were nearby at the outlet mall and didn't want to drive back south to the Bellaire area before heading back home to DFW. Looking for Asian food, we saw that they had Peking duck and soup dumplings on the menu so we were sold. Here's a breakdown of the food we ordered: Hot oil wontons - more soy sauce tasting than chili oil which made it salty Scallion pancakes - crispy and tasty, missing a dipping sauce though Pork soup dumplings - the soup inside was light and lacked a depth of pork flavor. The skin was thin and too fragile that resulted in them breaking upon picking up Beef fried rice - decent and standard although a bit on the oily side Stir fried green beans - would have liked a stronger garlic flavor but overall was good Pork belly with buns - nicely braised and tender meat, we liked it better than the duck Whole Peking duck - my main reason for coming here and was the biggest disappointment. Duck N Bao is a nice place to go grab some yummy East Asian delight. Scallion pancakes: Absolutely perfect! Crispy, flaky and flavorful! Salt and pepper calamari: It was good, but not the best that I have I had. I think the batter had too much flavoring in the coated salt mixture that it overpowered the calamari itself. I have definitely had better. Cumin lamb: Amazing! Gave you that numbing spice and was delicious with white rice. Peking duck: Such tender duck it was amazing and the pancakes they give you are so think, it's perfect! You get a bite of everything when you make your little bao/wrap. THE ABSOLUTE WORST SERVICE I'VE EXPERIENCED IN A WHILE! We were so excited to dine here, given the rave reviews, but were treated like we were second-class citizens-in every way possible. We waited almost 10 minutes to be taken to our seats, which were all the way in the back of the restaurant. Mind you, there were plenty of seats in the front, and everyone else in the restaurant had their orders taken immediately and were served before us. After sitting and waiting to have our order taken for 15-20 minutes, to no avail, the server finally graces us with his presence. STILL no proper greeting. He just asked if we'd been helped yet-we said no. He then asks to take our order. No "Oh my goodness! So sorry you've been waiting...what can I get you?!", or any kind of concern shown for paying customers. It was as though we owed HIM something! When we were finally able to order, I asked for a "Mar-"...YES, that's all I was able to get out before he rudely cut me off and curtly said, "ID", with his hand out. We ordered water (which tasted unfiltered) martinis, and dumplings, as an appetizer, OVER AN HOUR TO RECEIVE! Yes, it is a Saturday night, but did I mention that there were ONLY 2 people in the restaurant when we first arrived-all of whom were greeted, had their orders taken, and served well before us. The restaurant was crowded by the time we left! When the dumplings came, I asked which was which (we'd ordered both chicken and pork). The server literally smacked his lips with agitation, sighed and answered... "the chicken ones are at the top", as if we truly bothered him to ask. For our wait to be as long as it was, the dumplings did not align -their taste was no better than what you might purchase at a grocery store. For our entire 2-hour visit, we WERE ONLY SEEN TWICE! In fact, after having to flag someone else down to close out our bill, our original server (this is only his second visit to our table) comes up to our table laughing, saying "I'm sorry, I forgot about you (yes, he actually said that), Can I get you anything?" I told him we'd already closed out, and not one apology, offer to fix things, or any courtesy was given to us. He just let us leave dissatisfied. Originally, we were going to have appetizers and dine in. The wait was so long, and the service so lackluster, that all we wanted to do was take our entrees to go. After waiting for 45 MINUTES to get our food and flagging down the manager, asking for our food, he proceeded to pick up our food, which had been sitting on the pickup table THE WHOLE TIME! AGAIN , NO APOLOGIES, NO EXPLANATION, NO COMPING OF ANYTHING... Please realize, THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER PLACES TO DINE, where customers will be happily greeted, treated with respect, promptly served delicious food, and worthy of a return visit. The food was unique and flavorful with good presentation, and as a garlic-lover, I went nuts for that cucumber salad. I had the House Special Dry Pot with Chicken and Veggies, with was incredibly aromatic -- spice sensation, very interesting (occasionally veering towards a "perfumey" quality). My parents split the honey walnut shrimp, which has an interestingly honey mustard quality to it, that kind of sweet tanginess. Very creamy and rich. Immediately when we walked in the smell was not appealing but it was around 8 so maybe it was a cleaning solution, shrugs shoulders .... The tables were ok but not great. The atmosphere was not that great but not bad. The menu need to be thrown away and more need to be made. They were sticky and just nasty... turn off. Also there is only two bao dishes on the menu... ummm bao is in your restaurant name??? The beef bao was tasteless! The pork bao was amazing! Duck, duck, bao. First girls' birthday dinner in 2 years and here we are. Met up with 2 friends for a Friday dinner at 6 pm. The decor was nice and so was the staff. Our waitress was friendly and gave us some.gteat suggestions. We ordered the pork soup dumplings, the special mix dumplings, 1/2 Peking duck, crispy spicy chicken and the spicy shrimp with crispy rice. This is Sichuan spicy so it has slight numbing effect but nothing tooooo bad. The dumplings were good. The soup dumplings were flavorful and tender. The veggie one from the special mix was my favourite. The Peking duck was made nicely. Crispy skin with gender meat. It was served with the pancake style style wraps. Our favourite was the crispy spicy chicken. It was spicy but tasty. The crispy shrimp was good too but the rice cakes were a bit hard. Overall, the meal and service was on point. The food was not good and the service was not either. We ordered soup dumplings, and I should have known they weren't going to be great when we didn't get the proper spoons to eat them in. They were cold. We both tried one and flagged the waitress down to tell her. It took a while to get her attention and we were pretty much done eating by then. They insisted on making us new ones but after hearing the loud noises from a woman sounding upset in the kitchen we decided we would rather they just take them off. Another person came and he told us they could not take them off. Even though they weren't right, and we didn't want them to remake them. Needless to say. If 0 was an option they would have gotten that. The tab was $74 and we only asked one thing to be removed despite the fact that all of it was subpar. We also tried the ribs. (1 out of 5) Combo Fried Rice (3 out of 5) Pork and Shrimp Sumai (3 out of 5) they do not mention they Shumai has mushrooms so my spouse had a reaction. If you cannot eat mushrooms do not order that. Tried this restaurant for the first time, based on the great reviews. I looked at pictures online, and the menu, expected to have a great meal. It was anything but great. The restaurant menu had plates scratched off and did not have some plates listed that are in the online menu. We ordered quite a few items to try and unfortunately the food wasn't good at all. The fried rice had so much soy sauce it was all you could taste and looked extremely dark. I ordered the orange chicken and shrimp fried rice to go. The orange chicken was very fibrous like hay. It was as if it was old stale chicken that they covered up in sweet sauce. And the shrimp fried rice was very greasy and dark. You could squeeze the grease out of the rice with your hand. Those 2 items cost $31 and were such a waste of money. We work too hard for our money to receive old stale dishes like that. Duck n Boa, you are so wrong for serving what you did. Dishonest and shady practices will not help your business survive.
