Absolutely had an amazing time here . It's very busy but service moved quickly and the menu is so big that it's hard to pick exactly what to try. I never thought I would like Plum juice but it's awesome. Will definitely recommend this place to others
I'm glad I found a place to satisfy my parents narrow cuisine preferences while also being a genuinely good and beautiful restaurant for the rest of the group to enjoy. The staff appeased my mom while we had a mini photo shoot in the front with their many adorable decor items, including a throw pillow shaped like a mahjong piece and another like the famous lucky cat. We were famished and ordered nearly half the menu. Some standouts include the mala tofu with fish fillet, dry pot shrimp, mung bean jelly noodles, and eggplant in garlic sauce. The portions were large and meant for family style dining. The staff was really friendly and rushed over to compliment my mom on all her jade, which made her day. The place was bright and clean, the kitchen was speedy, serving all our dishes all at once, and food was genuinely good. We didn't feel rushed or upcharged for everything. It was a totally satisfying experience.

Mala always hits the spot. Service is typically friendly and the interior is nicely decorated. The spicy crispy chicken is a total crowd favorite. It's super crunchy with just the right kick of heat. We love how it's served on a mini shovel. Mapo tofu? Still amazing, rich and flavorful like always. The sweet plum ribs were pretty solid too, nice and tender. And that tiramisu crepe slice? Surprisingly tasty and a fun way to wrap things up, especially with the sparkler.
The ambience is nice, there are a few private rooms for large parties, and the food is always pretty good. I love the one in Houston, but Katy one is also good. Waiters are friendly and attentive, and rice comes with some dishes so no need to extra order. Fried rice could have more taste to it, but that's my only complaint! Fun desert menu.
We ordered the Mapo Tofu, Dry Pot Fish Fillet, and Eggplants in Spicy Garlic Sauce. All dishes were amazing! This is my favorite Sichuan restaurant in the area. They seated us very quickly and the service was very keen to detail. The ambiance was very good and we enjoyed catching up with friends.
Friends recommended this location, first time going to Mala and decided on the Katy location. The interior was well lit, clean and spacious. The waitresses/waiters were timely and active in assisting patrons and us. The thing that stood out the most for me was the menu was very detailed with full blown images of the food items. We ordered several different dishes and it was great I personally always go for combination fried rice which was great. The crispy beef and spicy crispy chicken were great Food was not too heavily spicy and had enough spices to enhance the taste. I will definitely be bringing in my family to try out this location when we go shopping at Katy in the future.
Came in on a Saturday night and was seated immediately, the restaurant had a nice ambiance and was very clean. Our server wasn't the most attentive, but the food came out very fast. We ordered a couple of dishes because everything looked so good! The Sour and Spicy dumplings were so tasty, but I didn't really get spicy at all 8/10. The green beans were incredibly seasoned and cooked perfectly 10/10! The Chow Mein was pretty good, but I wish there was a bit more shrimp 8/10. The Spicy and Crispy Chicken was perfectly crispy, but I didn't get spicy 8/10. Overall it was a very solid meal and affordable, so I'd recommend!
Friendly servers! Got the jiggling pork belly, mapo tofu and Dan Dan noodles. The mapo tofu was definitely my favorite- could have easily eaten it by myself. The Dan Dan noodles weren't as spicy as I was expecting but still had really good flavor.
Mala has an expansive menu so there is something for everyone here. With vegetarian, vegan and meat options it's a great place for different dietary needs and restrictions and many dishes, like their eggplant and mapo tofu can be made with or without meat. The servers were very friendly and attentive and the restaurant has a beautiful and clean esthetic. The food portions are big for sharing so it's perfect for groups ans families. Highly recommend a visit!
The food was delicious and beautifully plated! It was excellent quality and would be a great place to visit with family. I loved the spice of the dishes and really enjoyed all the flavors. I would recommend all the dishes we got: ants on a tree, eggplant in spicy garlic sauce, and mala chicken. The interior was clean and well decorated. The seating was hard wood and was beautiful. It wasn't the most comfortable furniture as it was a little hard to squeeze in through the benches and table, but it was functional.
We went to Asian town for the lion dance but we missed it so we decided to grab a bite. Most places were super busy. I've never had sichuan food before and it smelled really good, so we stopped in. The wait was quick. The chili oil dumplings were amazing; we were almost licking the bowl! We also ordered the kung pao chicken which was good and the brown sugar fried rice cakes. Those were interesting but we dipped them in chili oil and it made them better! Overall, the waiters were running around so service was ok but it was lunar new year so it was to be expected. I would definitely come again.
Tried this michelin guide restaurant in katy asian town and the only dish that took me by surprise was the spicy and crispy chicken. It was extremely flavorful and crispy. We ate every crisp left on the plate. The pork stirfry was delicious with a lot of pork but it didnt give the "wow" factor. The beef in golden soup was good but it didn't use the right cut of beef and the "soup" flavor wasnt traditional. It wasn't as spicy as i would like. The string beans were quite disappointing. First, it came out lukewarm and it was flavorless. This is a classic easy chinese dish and i was surprised by the quality. We asked for it to be reheated and it took over 15 minutes for them to bring the dish back. Was the food good? Yes. Was it michelin guide worthy? I dont know.... Service was good, the staff were quick on their feet and happy to help. It seemed like they were understaffed because it looked hectic and unorganized. Aesthetics were great. I loved how well lit it was in the restaurant and the lanterns. Very cute!

Came here on a Saturday evening with the girlfriends after a movie date nearby. They take reservations so it is highly recommend for large parties or peak times. We made reservations and our table was ready for us at 7pm. I am a big fan of the original location and the katy location was great. The food tasted the same, in a good way. My go to dishes are: - Cucumber Bacon appetizer - Mapo Tofu is the best - Salt and Pepper Prawns are delicious - Celery Fish - if want a non-spicy dish - Fried Green Beans - Spicy crispy chicken We also had a nice popping hot jasmine tea for the table which is served in a neat pot. Nothing to complain about as food is amazingly good. Delicious spice. The prawns are perfectly fried and salted. Cant go wrong with family style and sharing amongst friends and family. Service was fine. It took awhile for our waiter to come by when we were seated but we took that time to build our list to place our order. Mala is located in the Asiatown of Katy. Parking can be challenging that may require a few roundabout or parking far from the location. Careful walking through the parking lot! read more

Food: 4/5 stars Service: 3/5 stars Ambience: 5/5 Overall experience: 3.5 stars First time at this location, and it's been a feel years since I dined at a Mala Sichuan. Nicely decorated inside. Parking is not the best at Katy Asia Town, but we got lucky. Was seated promptly. Ordered: - red oil dumplings (addicting/delicious; not too spicy & more on the sweeter side) - Dan dan noodles (pretty good) - basil crispy chicken (looked plain but tasted great!) - dry fried double veggies (green beans & bamboo shoots; seasoned well but you can tell there were a mix of fresh & old green beans) Service was a bit subpar. - Waitress never checked on our table - Had to flag her down 3x to get the bill and to-go boxes - Was standing and getting ready to leave. Waitress bumps into me and she just yells "AHH" *gave a look* didn't even apologize. Idk if i wanna dine at this specific location again LOL. There are plenty of other Chinese restaurants in Katy Asia Town with good food & better service. read more

Great Szechuan restaurant, freshly prepared dishes, delicious flavors, very attentive service they even boxed my to go leftovers. Ample parking. Clean inside and out. Great service. Inviting Chinese restaurant atmosphere from the music to the asset with to the decorations. . The Chinese music is a nice touch to feel like you're submersed in the culture. Would recommend. I'll definitely be back. Note my rating system: 1 Star: I wouldn't recommend 2 Stars: Didn't hit my standards 3 Stars: Average (nothing special) 4 Stars: Above Average. Would recommend. The restaurant is very bright and colorful. The foods were very good and the service was very fast. The Westlake soup was very good-- lots of white pepper and very tasty. The vegetable, (ong Choi ) was fresh and very tasty. The spicy eggplant was also very good. The spicy, crispy chicken was also very good--just enough spice, not overpowering with pepper flakes. Over all, a very good and tasty meal. The service was very fast. It wasn't very busy due to pouring rain. read more

I met up with my cousin here before she moves away for school at UT Austin. She really likes this place and wanted me to try it. I came on a Monday night and the parking lot was full but the restaurant itself had tons of open seats. We got the konjac duck stew, shredded pork with spice dry tofu, water boiled fish, dry pot dish, cumin beef, and Dan Dan noodles. The meats were all very tender. I really liked the way they cook their food because it tastes less numbing compared to other Sichuan restaurants, I prefer it this way so I can enjoy more of the flavor. I loved both fish dishes, you get the contrast between the crispy fish fillets and the soft water boiled fish fillet. The konjac duck stew was good but be careful of bones. Came in around 7pm on a Saturday, so we had to wait a bit for a table (just a little less than 20 minutes). However, my friend and I ended up sharing a big round table with another 2 people to get seated as soon as possible lollll... so random but it wasn't terrible! We ordered 3 dishes- 1 veggie + 2 meat plates. The lotus root was the star of the show for me. We got it sautéed in a sweet and sour sauce. I was obsessed with the starchy and crunchy texture. It was oddly satisfying omg. Also, it had a nice, subtle nutty flavor to it. The dry pot beef was okay. The beef was kind of tough to chew, but I loved all the seasoned vegetables in the pot, like the lotus root, oyster mushrooms, and potatoes. The jiggling pork belly was so flavorful; it had a great soy sauce marinade. Most of the meat pieces were tender. I appreciated the broccoli they provided with the dish. Def got my veggie intake in this night. Service was alright, but I totally understand as they were busy. Split the bill and the total was around $27 each (not including tip). The interior is super cool with the antique wooden panels all around and warm lighting coming from the lanterns. Parking was a pain to find. I parked towards the very back, near soju 101. read more

Was in Katy China Town area, so I couldn't leave the area without stopping to get something to eat. Had a craving for something quick and smaller portioned, and came across the chili oil dumplings at Mala, so I decided to try them. Loved the dumplings - the sauce was amazing! The sweet savory combination really hit the spot. Needless to say, I devoured them quickly! It took a while to come out so that was the only downside. I could see they were kinda busy, with it being Valentines Day and the recent Chinese New Year. After about 20 mins, I checked with the cashier who went back to get the order. Stopped by en route to Buc-ee's in Katy (separate story there). Food was good- I was having lunch solo, so it's always a little tough to portion things for a 1-person meal, but I got to try a bunch of items. My absolute favorite was the medicinal chicken soup! The cucumbers weren't as flavorful as I'd expected, and the wonton soup was okay (not bad, but not stellar). It's a franchise with several locations in Houston. read more

Go here! Dine in or eat at home, the food is great both ways though I like the experience of dining in. Located in the Katy Asia Town, this place competes and hold its own against a lot of great places. Dining in you will feel a great service experience and a pleasant ambiance. Mala Sichuan Bistro isn't the absolute best for Sichuan food in town, but it's always consistent which I can appreciate. I like the interior of this location the best; the Tsingtao Christmas tree was quite the sight. One of my favorite dishes here is the eggplants in spicy garlic sauce. Eggplants are cooked nicely and the sauce is just so flavorful and not too overpowered by the spices. The combination fried rice is a solid, safe option. The sizzling rice cracker pork wasn't exactly "sizzling" but the flavors were there and I always love getting wood ear mushrooms in a dish! read more
My favorite Sichuan restaurant! Everything about this place is great - from the authentic food, the clean and elevated ambiance to the service. We got the eggplant, twice cooked pork, spicy fried chicken and crispy mala beef. The flavors are intense and the chilis really pack a punch. I wish I could eat here everyday! read more

One of our favorite meals. We truly miss this place after moving away from the Houston area. We make trips just to eat here sometimes, and can never leave the city without stopping here. The service is great, they are very attentive and also fast. The restaurant is clean, and very homey. read more
After seeing they received a bib gourmand I was eager to visit one of their locations!! Since I was in the area I chose this one. It was so beautiful inside and spacious. We ordered the Eggplant in spicy garlic sauce, flavorful and the perfect texture. I got their red oil dumplings, they were phenomenal especially the texture of the wrapper. Downside I got some of the oil in my eye because they were slippery but that's my fault lol. We also enjoyed their Yangzhou fried rice and chow mein. I will say I didn't love the luncheon meat in the Yangzhou it had an especially strong pork flavor that just wasn't for me. Overall super delicious meal and I will definitely be visiting again to try more things. Probably a different location though because finding parking in that area is always so hard. read more
