*** Honey Walnut Shrimp What you've ordered is what you get. I think the portions were very good and reasonable. Flavor-wise, this is very standard. The Mayo cream is done well and smooth. The shrimp is not overcooked. For a to go order, the restaurant gave us an INCREDIBLY GENEROUS serving of rice that comes with it. ( this alone was enough for me to bump this up to a five star for their level of generosity). The staff is very quick and friendly. They are very prompt with handling there to go orders within the promised time frame. We didn't sit down to eat but the seating area was very spacious and very oriental notes and colors. It's a cute place!

The Bánh bột chiên (fried rice flour cake with egg) was as good as I remembered. I have to say, Tan Tan has always made it the best and continue to do so. The rice flour cakes are crispy on the outside with a soft bite on the inside. I love the vinegary soy sauce with pickled jalapeños slices. I can eat this as my main dish and be satisfied. The other dishes we ordered were good too, such as the fried rice and fried noodles. One of the elderly in our group did not enjoy the Bún Bò Huế. It was disappointing actually, because she rarely tries new places so this was a let down. The Bún Bò Huế here strays away from traditional, as it does not include familiar ingredients such as pig feet, but instead puts raw strips of beef in (to allow the soup to cook, similar to pho). She didn't enjoy it. What made it worse was that her soup spoon had dried remains of the previous meal on it. The server did not acknowledge the lack of cleanliness and just replaced it as if it was typical. Overall, I still recommend this place but not for the Bún Bò Huế.

I am a huge fan of the Tan Tan in Chinatown so I definitely had high expectations for this restaurant. Upon walking into Tan Tan Wok, the staff led us to the adjoining restaurant called Jia Kitchen. I asked our server if we would be served food from Tan Tan, and he said that it was the same thing. Kind of confusing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is quite large and there was a large painted mural on the wall which was pleasant to look at.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server was nice and we had many different attendants throughout the meal that were constantly refilling water and clearing the table. The house special rice cake was good, but I could definitely tell that it was different than the original from Tan Tan in Chinatown. The flat rice noodles caused confusion because there are two different menu items: one is the Tossed flat rice noodle and the other is the Stir fried flat rice noodle. If you want the noodle with a lot of sauce on top of white noodles, order the stir fried noodle. If you want the dry noodle that is all stir fried together, get the Tossed flat rice noodle. I am used to the Bellaire location asking if I want the wet or dry version; I had no idea there would be essentially the same sounding dish listed on the menu twice. The salt toasted tofu was delectable, and had the perfect seasoning and texture. The salt toasted squid was a little off, and the batter was a too little thick and too crunchy. My diagnosis: unfortunately this did not live up to the Tan Tan in Chinatown.

Since I recently moved to Houston, this place has quickly become my favorite restaurant. My dad and uncle came back with one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes for an afternoon snack. They stopped by Tan Tan Wok in Katy to pick up some bánh bột chiên, their house special rice cakes. A staple from their original location in bellaire, these are eggs and rice cakes cooked together with a bunch of grilled onions and pork fat. They also provide their house made soy sauce, chili sauce, and some minced garlic to top it off, making the perfect savory snack. The eggs are perfectly cooked and the rice cakes are crispy but have such a fluffy interior. They soak up the sauce so well. I could eat these all day.

I came here as a halfway point for me and my friends. What brought me here was the ratings and pictures of the food. The main reason I really wanted to try this place is because I love crispy noodles and I can only find that at the casino in Lake Charles. Surprisingly this place had it and it absolutely did not disappoint. It was such a large portion for a little cost. I ate on it twice. Everyone enjoyed their food - large portions - three of us ordered food for about 50 bucks not bad at all and I can't wait to go back. I did notice there was a lot of to go orders so obviously this place is the spot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside was kind of empty, but I almost can understand why the staff is a little unusual. They rush you.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] From the moment we got in there it was only like two other people eating and they were honestly acting like vultures. We had three different people come within seconds of each other, asking if we were ready to order we were trying to catch up with each other because it was a friend meet and we just felt so rushed and out of place. They were very inpatient and stood by us the entire time as if we were going to dine and dash or something. Luckily the food was that good and inexpensive, it excused the behavior of the staff. I'm almost wondering if it was a culture thing to rush us out of there. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was very clean even the restrooms.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The restaurant was connected to the one next door and that one was very packed.

Ooof! It was a sad weekend dinner at Tan Tan. I will begin by saying I've eaten at 6 Katy Asiatown restaurants so far and been disappointed with all of them but wasn't expecting Tan Tan to fail. Of course we started with tried and true Banh Bot Chien which was our first disappointment. It was super oily and the Banh wasn't cooked through to be a little crispy or browned like original Tan Tan in Chinatown. We also ordered Canh Chua Ca.... It looked tasty and with all the right ingredients but the taste?! sugar!!! It was so sweet and most likely had canned pineapple and honestly it tasted like they poured the syrup inside . Our 3rd dish was the eggplant with garlic sauce. The minute the waiter put the fish down, we looked at each other because it was an oil slick. The flavor was on point except all the oil. The fourth dish was flat noodles with "beef and broccoli". I put quotations because that's what I ordered but we got no broccoli but instead got combo: beef, chicken and shrimp. We didn't complain, we just kept it. This dish was lacking flavor. The chicken was bone dry and the shrimp had that "frozen shrimp smell". The beef was the only thing edible on that dish, but barely. One of our kids wanted hot and sour soup which came in one size. Again when this came out, a thick layer of oil sat on the top.... I've never seen this before at any restaurant, even Chinese buffets. I scooped out as much of the oil off the top to let her eat it. Disappointment, yet again. There was no hot or sour taste. It tasted like oily chicken broth with extra stuff in it. On top of that, they had the same dry chicken that they used in the flat noodles. It was just one big disappointment after another. I couldn't believe it. I love Tan Tan in Bellaire but will never come to this location again. Not sure why all these Asiatown restaurants have the flavors off. Perhaps they are trying to appeal to the majority non Asian customers by using different ingredients? Or maybe they think people won't notice? I don't know but I hope the manager will do kitchen /good taste checks asap and get it back on track and back to tradition.

A friend highly recommended this spot, and even though I live nearby, I never checked it out until recently for a grad dinner lol! Their menu is endless! Every dish we ordered was spectacular! We got the fried rice, flat noodles, steamed and fried eggplant, mapo tofu, and the walnut shrimp. The beef flat noodles were one of my favs. It had a nice charred flavor. Only comment is that the beef was dry and tough. The fried eggplant was amazinggg. I've only eaten eggplant steamed so the crispiness of the fried eggplant was the best, and it was seasoned well. The mapo tofu flavor wasn't too intense (regarding the numbing sensation). It was a warm and hearty dish. The walnut shrimp was the star of the show - crispy and sweet (loved the candied walnuts). [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was plenty of seating![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was quick!! Since the restaurant is located in the heart of Katy Asian town, parking can be a bit challenging.

I'll admit I was a little skeptical going in because I genuinely think my favorite pho spot in Texas is still in Austin where I live. That being said, Houston has such an incredible Vietnamese food scene that I've been making it my mission to try as many of the highly recommended spots as I can! When my pho first came out, I thought the broth was rich and flavorful, but it didn't immediately blow me away. Then the manager came over and started chatting with me, asking where I was visiting from and what some of my favorite pho spots were. He even asked what style of broth I usually like, and after I told him I tend to prefer a richer broth, he brought me a side of their fatty broth to add in. It made SUCH a difference!! It added so much depth and flavor, and I appreciated that he took the time to personalize my meal instead of just serving the food and walking away. What impressed me even more was how attentive everyone was. The manager noticed I'd asked for to-go containers even though I'd barely touched my food and came over to make sure everything was okay. I had to explain that I just wasn't as hungry as I thought I'd be haha. He was SO kind and even packed me an extra container of the fatty broth to take home, which was such a thoughtful gesture. We also ordered the grilled pork vermicelli, and WOW...it was honestly one of the best versions I've ever had! The pork was incredibly flavorful and perfectly cooked. Between the delicious food and the genuinely amazing hospitality, I can definitely see why Pho Dien is so well-loved. Next time I definitely want to come back and try their bone marrow pho!!

This place delivered where it mattered most, especially with the highly reviewed appetizers. Probably one of my favorite drinks here was the Thai Green Tea. It has a really interesting flavor that stands out from regular Thai Tea -- more earthy, but not quite like matcha (we guessed there might be pandan in it). Just a heads up: it's definitely on the sweeter side. My partner and I actually let the ice melt a bit before continuing to drink it, which helped balance things out. I came back a second time and still loved it just as much. The dipping sauce felt like a truly authentic representation of Vietnamese cuisine. It was a lightly diluted fish sauce with spicy red pepper and plenty of garlic -- simple but really flavorful. I also appreciated that the table setup let you customize it to your taste. In my first experience here, we ordered the Bánh Xèo, Bánh Khọt, and Bánh Bột Chiên. I was hands down a huge fan of the ginormous Bánh Xèo -- crispy, flavorful, and just overall my favorite (though I'll admit I'm a little biased toward it already). Meanwhile, my boyfriend completely fell in love with the crunchy Bánh Khọt. That said, I did notice a slight graininess in the Bánh Khọt, which took away a few points for me. The Bánh Bột Chiên was solid and got a pass from us, but it wasn't our top pick -- mostly because we've had better versions elsewhere. Other worthy notes: the herbs were fresh and crisp, and the pickled vegetables were refreshing as well (though my boyfriend thought they could've been a bit more strongly pickled). Eating everything the traditional way -- wrapping it in lettuce with herbs -- made the whole experience even better. Honestly, I would come back just to order two Bánh Xèo. I actually came back a second time before posting this review, this time with my family. We ordered the Bắp Xào, Cơm Chiên Bò Lúc Lắc, and a simple rice dish. This visit was a bit different -- across the board, we all agreed the dishes leaned too salty this time around. I could also tell the staff was overwhelmed, with only two people handling both the front and the kitchen, so it was tough to get their attention at times. That said, the Bánh Xèo still held its ground. My parents were genuinely impressed by the size, and for me, it's still an absolute banger -- something I'd come back for again and again purely for flavor and value. The Bắp Xào really stood out to me in a nostalgic way. I loved the use of traditional Vietnamese corn, and the sautéed dried shrimp brought back memories of flavors from dishes I grew up eating, even if I couldn't quite pinpoint which one. While my mom thought it was too salty, I actually felt like it would pair perfectly with a bowl of plain white rice. I also tried some of my brother's Cơm Chiên Bò Lúc Lắc and found the beef to be tender and flavorful, though not particularly standout compared to other places. I've had very similar versions nearby, but it's still my brother's go-to -- though I suspect that might also be his way of loading up on protein. Overall, even with the inconsistency during the second visit, I still really enjoy Yummy Quan -- especially for the appetizers. It's a place I'd bring family and friends to try, and I'm still curious about more of the menu... but realistically, I could live life on Bánh Xèo alone. At the end, you also get to grab some guava candy, and for anyone who's never had these, don't forget to pick some up -- they're simply delectable!

I did not like the bun rieu, was too sweet... probably because different region so rieu balls were different than I was used too also. At first it was just us and one other table, but not long after, more people started coming in, probably for lunch as well. The restaurant is pretty large, with both tables and booths, plus a big table for large groups. This is what we ordered: Combo Rolls This comes as a sampler with five different types of spring rolls. Regular spring rolls, nem nuong rolls (fermented grilled pork), grilled chicken, grilled pork, and shrimp only. I really liked this idea because it lets you try everything without having to order each roll separately. My favorite was the nem nuong roll. Bun Bo Hue I do not eat pork blood or pork loaf, so I substituted them with more tendon and beef meatballs. Because of that, I cannot really comment on how the pork tasted. The broth was okay but a little lacking in flavor. After I asked for shrimp paste, it tasted much better. Bo Kho (Beef Stew) This is my husband favorite dish, so he always orders it whenever a place has it. He ordered the one come with bread as dipping. He did not really like this one. It was not bad, but not great either. The flavor was missing, and the broth was more watered down than how he prefers it. Still, it is worth trying if you like beef stew. Overall, our experience was just okay. The service was fine, but the food did not leave a strong impression on us. We did not stay long since my husband had to get back to work. I would come back to try more dishes, especially pho. Since their name is Pho Guru, I feel like the pho might be better.
