Very good dim sum in Katy! My parents are from HK and very familiar with the restaurant there. The Katy location was pretty empty when we arrived so not sure what to expect. Dim sum was easy to order with pictures. We got our usual dishes and everything came out really good. Shrimp rice rolls and har gow had thin skin which was great. The baked BBQ buns were tasty. I enjoyed the spinach and mushroom dumpling. The hot chili oil was also really good and spicy! Service was a little sub par since they had a lot of take out orders and didn't come around much. My Christmas wish? For Tim Ho Wan to open a location in The Woodlands! I swear my sister and I talk about this place weekly... how we're craving it, but it's just so far. So, we've tried literally every dim sum and dumpling place in The Woodlands area and even closer to town. No one comes close. This visit, we had our regular favs: Har Gao, Cheung Fun, Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf, plus others including the deep fried eggplant and shrimp and garlic broccolini. As always, pleasant moaning could be heard from our table as we devoured our feast. For dessert, we tried a wonderful sesame offering, which was crisping the outside and soft, chewy (like mochi) and slightly sweet inside. Delicious! I definitely think that they deserve more stars than they have currently. I'm originally from Hong Kong, and I do have higher expectations for dim sum. I like that they have a variety of dim sum available and they are ready to be served within a reasonable time. The Sui mai and shrimp dumplings are probably my favourites. Wanted to come here after all the initial hype died down. Came in last Friday afternoon and there were only about 3 or 4 other tables. Ordered the 酥皮焗叉燒包 Baked BBQ Pork Buns, 古法糯米雞 Glutinous Rice wrapped in Lotus Leaf, 免治牛肉腸 Minced Beef Rice Roll, 香煎臘味蘿蔔糕 Pan-fried Radish Cake, 鮮蝦燒賣皇 Pork and Shrimp Dumplings, 晶瑩鮮蝦餃 Shrimp Dumplings, and 流沙奶皇煎堆 Lava Custard Sesame Ball. Unfortunately, the food fell flat, especially for the price point. The worst item was the lotus leaf rice, which was flavorless. The next biggest disappointment was the radish/turnip cake, which was way too greasy and also flavorless. The buns were pretty good, with a nice flaky layer on the top, similar to pineapple buns. The "lava" custard did not ooze out like I would expect, but instead had what looked like clumpy egg yolk with a lot of oil which came out separately. The rest of the things we ordered were just OK. Fair or unfair, I came in with pretty high expectations. Surprisingly, the menu is pretty limited, with just the "basics" of dim sum. While the food was only OK, the ambiance and service was good. However, given that there were only a few tables occupied, I'm not sure why they only had us sit at a two-person table with as much food as we ordered. Later on they did push over the next table to give us a larger space to put the food down on. The interior is nicely decorated with a couple of hidden rooms behind the round doors. Can't say I'll be back, especially since I don't live in the area and given the price point, I would probably go elsewhere where the food is better and cheaper with more variety (and sacrifice the aesthetics). read more

So this is review is based off low expectations. So when this place first opened people had set their expectations super high due to their other international locations so they were disappointed. However, after returning from a trip Vegas and being disappointed by Din Tai Fung and seeing a billboard for Tim Ho Wan, I made it a mission to take my family here and check it out. It's in Katy Asia Town, which is a great addition if you're in this area. Now as far as the dim sum their default items were actually mediocre. However, there were a few dishes that were simply delicious. The baked bbq buns were some of the best I've ever had. It was crispy on the outside with a touch of sweetness and stuffed with savory bbq beef. I could eat a whole order myself! The chow fung stuffed shrimp was also very good. My overall favorite has to be the baked BBQ pork buns (sweet & savory) & the steamed pork dumplings/siu mai. The pork was juicy and they didn't skimp out on the filling! Dim sum can be overwhelming since there are so many options so if you're new & don't know what to try, the classics (steamed shrimp dumplings, steamed pork&shrimp dumplings, baked BBQ buns, Chinese broccoli) are always a fail-safe option. If you want to get into more traditional dishes try the chicken feet & chive dumplings! If you're going on a weekend, do expect to wait especially with bigger parties. I remember stumbling across Tim Ho Wan in Honolulu, Hawaii back in 2021 and I wondered why it only had a 3 star rating even though it's supposed to be this very hyped chain. The line was too long for me to see for myself, but now after dining at the Katy location twice I can say that if it's anything like this location then it was appropriately rated. I tried THW when it first opened and I wasn't impressed. I decided to give it another try this past weekend since I didn't want to travel far for dim sum and I left underwhelmed again. The food took awhile to come out. We ordered the har gow, baked bbq pork buns, pan fried turnip cake, garlic string beans, deep fried dumplings with pork and dried shrimp, and the steamed rice roll with shrimp. Nothing was exceptional. There were only two memorable moments from what I can remember: 1) the fried dumpling wasn't very oily like most places so that's a plus and 2) the consistency of the steamed rice roll was not good. It seemed like for this dish the rice roll was too thick and somewhat dry so it kept crumbling apart. This was most disappointing because this is my favorite dim sum item.
