We came here with my cousins and ordered enough food to practically sample the whole menu. Hahaha. There was definitely a lot to work through, but we found some major standouts. Singapore-Style Rice Noodles - I liked the flavor, but it wasn't a "wow" for me. I think I might've preferred rice as the carb side instead. Red Oil Dumplings - Very flavorful--strong meat flavor with a strangely nutty-tasting sauce, even though it doesn't actually have nuts. Very rich, and the remaining sauce paired exceptionally well with rice. Honey Walnut Jumbo Shrimp - Crispy, exactly how I like it, without being buffet-style sweet. I couldn't eat too much of this just to avoid walnut contamination, but what I had was delicious. Golden Salted Yolk Japanese Tofu - Really, REALLY loved this tofu dish. The flavor was so deep and rich that I could instantly tell it had salted egg yolk. This was truly my favorite dish out of everything we ordered. Crispy Spicy Chicken - Mmmm, a well-deserved dish and great use of Sichuan spices. It wasn't too spicy despite being advertised as such, but the seasoning itself was excellent. This competed with the Salt & Pepper Squid for my second favorite dish of the meal. Salt & Pepper Squid - Super crunchy. I love salt-and-pepper dishes in general, and this one did not fail to amaze me. Definitely one of my favorites here and competing with the Crispy Spicy Chicken for second place. Stir-Fried String Beans - Crunchy and not soggy, with those same Sichuan spices. Probably the only vegetable dish we had today, thanks to my BF ordering it--hahaha. Lemon Pepper Wings - Crispy, but I didn't really like the sauce. It was a little more buttery than I would've liked. BBQ Chashu Bao - Sooo soft, but a bit dry. Definitely needed some water with this one. I can tell they're fresh--probably not frozen. Haha. Pork Xiao Long Bao - Oooh, very umami in flavor! Strong pork taste with steady levels of fat dispersed throughout the bao. We let them get a bit warm, but they were still delicious--one of my favorite soup baos thus far. Rose Soy Sauce Chicken - A bit fattier than I expected, and I didn't taste the rose that strongly. Not my favorite, as I felt like I had more skin and bones than meat. Whole Peking Duck - Great presentation and flavors. I'm usually not a fan of Peking duck, and this one still didn't really change my mind, but all my cousins had a lot of fun with it. My BF thought the Peking duck was great, so this is definitely more of a personal preference thing. Lava Bun - This is different from Supreme Dumpling's, which is more of a custard; this one has a gooey salted egg yolk filling. It was a little grainy, so it wasn't my favorite. I definitely prefer the custard version. Overall, I understood the appeal of this place after my brother recommended it. They really loaded the table with food, and even with nine people, we still left with plenty of leftovers. The quality of each dish was well above standard, especially considering how much we ordered. The only dish that fell below my expectations was the Lava Bun--I simply didn't care for the filling. The service was smooth and professional throughout the meal. My main complaint was the timing of the Peking Duck and Rose Soy Sauce Chicken. I wish they had been served first since they were the heaviest dishes and the main attractions. By the time they arrived, everyone was already too full to really enjoy them, which I think took away from the experience. read more

We got here for lunch on a Friday around 12:30PM and got seated with no issues with a table of 9. Time to Orders: Appetizers started coming out at 12 minutes and it took up to 30 minutes for the last dishes to come out (the Peking Duck and rose half chicken) Whole Peking Duck $56 (4.5/5): For the price and service, this was fantastic. Pieces were cut to fit into baos already. Served with ten baos and enough toppings to make everything. Duck was excellent, a little too oily but it was still very good. The baos were perfectly chewy too. Rose Soy Sauce Chicken Half $24 (4/5): It was really tender, definitely order this for a crowd. Kind of reminds me of a better teriyaki chicken. Honey Walnut Jumbo Shrimp - I couldn't have this lol. Table said it was good. Salt Pepper Squid (4.5/5): Really well sized and the flavor is subtle and not overwhelming the squid. Would definitely get this again. Crispy Spicy Chicken (4.5/5): It could be sliiightly crispier but a solid contender vs Mala and other famous Sichuan places, definitely one of the best on this side of town. Golden Salted Yolk Jap. Tofu (5/5): Maybe one of our favorite here, texture is fantastic, tofu was silky, yum! Stir-Fried String Beans (4.5/5): Similar to the crispy chicken, the portions are excellent and it's nicely spiced. Crispy too. Would definitely get it again. Singapore-Style Rice Noodles (4/5): A good carb dish for a group or lunch, I wouldn't order it solo. Huge portions, again. Pork Xiao Long Bao (4.25/5): Great service, gave us the little tongs and all of them came intact. They have some strong competition in this area but the soup is flavorful and it's a good size. Could be a little chewier and a little more soup filled. BBQ Chashu Bao - I didn't get to try this, feedback was good Red Oil Dumpling (4/5): Quite oily, but nicely sized Lemon Pepper Wings (4/5): All flats, lucky or unlucky? Surprisingly juicy, if not that large. Pretty good for the price! Lava Bao (3.5/5) Shockingly fully liquid lol, we thought it was like a custard. Not too sweet, it was a good palate cleanser. I think my biggest recommendation would be to order the Peking Duck ahead of time, as it takes some of the longest to prep and is a heavy dish. It came out last and we were already really full haha. Overall a really solid Sichuan offering in West Houston, would definitely come back for the chicken, tofu, green beans, and salt and pepper squid. read more

We tried the red oil dumplings and wings as appetizers--the sauce for the dumplings was delectable, even after the dumplings were finished I was spooning the sauce over my rice. It was peanut sauce w red chili oil and was just a flavor explosion. Wings were really crispy and a nice size, they have several different flavors and only serve flats. One of the better Peking ducks I've had in Houston in terms of value and taste. The place has a modern decor with a full bar, which usually makes me skeptical right off the bat as these spots lean more towards style than substance but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was solid across the board. Mapo tofu and eggplant was good, everything came out beautifully presented. But the Peking duck was the clear standout.. For the price, it was actually decently valued compared to some of the other meat dishes on the menu and some of the restaurants in Katy Asiatown. The Duck came as a full set with all the fixings: crispy skin, thin pancakes, the sauce, the scallions (they even added sugar? which was actually not a bad idea). Everything was on point. The skin had that perfect crackle and the pancakes were fresh.. Service was excellent, attentive and efficient.. Overall it's not the cheapest spot compared to what you'd find in Chinatown, but you're paying for a cleaner dining experience, solid ambiance, and a full bar. First thing I ordered was an old Fashion and they ran out of the bourbon mid pour with no more in house. Second Ordered - Hot and sour soup and it came out cold. I think it was a simple mistake. They took it back and brought it back right and it was very good. Pecking Duck - was great tasting but came out cold also. The soup dumpling and red chili oil dumplings were great! Inside was nice and cozy. The far left booth by the windows rocks and is un level. I really had high hopes and hope to come back and all these things fixed. My husband and oldest son both have food allergies. I had to keep asking what is inside of the dumplings. We ordered Red Oil Dumpling and BBQ Chashu Bao. The red oil dumplings are served on top of chili oil and peanut sauce. The dumplings had a very good flavor but not served hot. Our server didn't come back to check on us. The baos came out steaming hot, fluffy and were good. Overall, the other staff checked on us and were nice and attentive. Brand new place in this area. I must write that everything is above standards. The two lady hosts and the feel just going in. Very beautiful inside design and you can right away see the care they take in everything from decor to how the plating is arranged. The customer service was above 5 stars. Everything is. I ordered two separate steamed bao orders, the traditional steamed bao and right away I could tell is was hand made to order. Not sticky or falling apart like some places but very fresh and absolutely delicious. They supplied a wonderful sauce that is above and beyond what you have elsewhere. It was a very mild apple cider that was perfect mixed with the bao. Very light and complimented the meal perfectly. My visit a few days ago was less than desirable I arrived there at 11:15a it wasn't busy. I placed my order of appetizers and entrées. I waited 40 minutes to get my appetizer and then the server kept coming over. I know it's taking long. Please be patient in the meantime the restaurant was Getting full I saw patrons that came in way after I did get their food eat pay for it and then took takeout home my Entrées still never arrived at 1:15p. I said I had enough I'm leaving. The server came over to me and said he spoke with the manager if we wanted to wait and get our order that he would give us a small 15% discount that's absurd I didn't come to the restaurant to get a discount. We orderee 3 dishes from Chef's menu Crispy chicken， 廣東小炒王 and Yangzhou fried rice all are fantastic. One dry stir fry flat noodles with beef and stir fry cabbage with chili. Both are great as well. Not sure about other dishes as their implied it might more tailor for western vs asian taste. Have one special cocktail with oolong tea and vodka (youthful journey) is good too. We came during their soft opening so it's not a full menu but it's sufficient with all the good eats available. Service was exceptional, on point, very attentive and the food was coming out as we were still ordering. Egg drop soup was full of flavor, the red oil dumpling stole the show with a sesame sauce at the bottom of the dish that mixed fabulously with all the flavors. Chefs kiss! They don't have an extensive dessert menu just yet but they have a custard and taro bao. We ordered the custard boa that was beautiful and good . Recommend this place . We didnt even get our appetizers. Just water and she came back to refill 3 times. Yes it was a soft opening for this facility and I guess they werent ready yet. I'm a lover of Peking Duck and Bao Spices advertises their Peking Duck as one of the best. First let me say, the restaurant should be listed as Asian Fine Dining. It is cute, quaint, and a very pleasant atmosphere due primarily to the attention to detail of Afina(sp) the owner and manager of Bao and Spices. She truly puts her heart in ensuring that all the staff is attentive to the customers. Now I was fortunate to attend their "Soft Opening" and I have to say the experience was great. The food: I ordered the Peking Duck as my primary meal and an appetizer of fried dumplings. The dumplings were good, pretty run of the mill as dumplings go. Now the Peking Duck was good as well, you have to know it's not the traditional rendered down version of Peking Duck, while the staff saw me somewhat puzzled when it arrived, Ms. Afina, visited the table and asked for my honest opinion, now it was quite good, just not the traditional rendered down Peking Duck. It had more of the Fried Chicken appearance and as she stated they have one Duck they use for several dishes. It was very good and what I thought was the best selling point was that they serve buns and pancakes (you choose) to come with the Peking Duck. A point of concern is that I love to douse my Duck in lots of Peking Duck/Hoisin Sauce, when I asked for some additional sauce the waitress left, returned almost immediately and let me know there would be an additional $1 charge for the extra sauce, which I agreed to. When the bill arrived you can see from the pictures, it was $2.50. I expressed my concern with Ms. Afina and she quickly corrected the issue. I also ordered the Black Gold Lava Bao, these were a recommendation of Ms. Afina, a very good recommendation. They were the perfect example of sweet and salty. The meal was good, the service was excellent, all in all I give them five stars. They do offer a Military, Veteran, LEO, and Emergency Responder discount.
