Can get very busy over the weekend and there could be a wait time for the table. It is pricey, but you get really delicious food that is comparable to authentic Korean food. They provide house made banchan (I loved their pickled radish, and kimchi). We ordered the original pork ribs, rice cake, and ox bone soup. The ribs were tender and flavourful and pairs really well with the rice and sides. Loved that it was easy to take off the bone. The spicy level was great and did not take away from the dish itself. The rice cake was spicy, and flavourful but came a little bit dry. The ox bone soup was amazing - loved that they allow it to be seasoned by the patrons to their liking at the table similar to how they do in South Korea. There was depth, and the tender slices of brisket paired very well. We can't wait to come try their crab, galbijim, and other tang dishes.

Very unfortunate to be giving out a one star to this restaurant, considering that the food was delicious but the ambience and service was absolutely terrible. So if you are willing to order to go and eat in the comfort of your own home, I would suggest that as a good alternative. I came here for a group dinner that consisted of 11 people to celebrate a birthday. Keep in mind I had come with a reservation that was made a week prior. Throughout the reservation process, we made sure that a cake could be brought in for the birthday celebration, and was verified with the staff that it would not be a problem. Upon walking in to the restaurant, we gave our cake to the manager John and was immediately told that we would not be allowed to cut the cake after our meal due to there being other reservations. Our reservation was set for seven and the restaurant closes at 9. I'm not sure what other reservations they were expecting to have within that timeframe... It was very astonishing to hear this being that we had not even ordered or sat down at our table yet. This is my first time encountering an establishment refusing to allow paying customers with a confirmed reservation cut a simple birthday cake... Despite this unusual situation, we decided to wait for the rest of our party to arrive. While waiting, the servers repeatedly approached our table, pressuring us to place orders. After informing the staff that we were still waiting for a few more guests, they continued to insist that we order on three additional accounts. Once our entire party arrived, we carefully placed a specific order of appetizers and entrees, considering the varying spice tolerances among our guests, ranging from no spice at all to extra spicy. Upon receiving our food, one of the soups that was originally intended to be regular (meaning not as spicy) was unexpectedly filled with red peppers and chili flakes. Upon tasting the broth, it became evident that the soup was clearly not the intended spice level. We brought the issue to the servers' attention, hoping he would take the soup to the back and have it remade. Instead the chef confirmed that the soup was the correct spice level and sent it back out with the server. However, I'm not sure how he confirmed this since the food had already touched our table and been eaten... The only option they gave us was to add water to the soup... if that does not speak unprofessional I don't know what else does. After this incident, we were clearly not having a good time at the restaurant. The restaurant was starting to empty as time went on, but the temperature remained consistently hot. Being that the restaurant is small they should have better ventilation and air circulation. They only had one air conditioning unit at the front of the door, which was insufficient, especially in the Texas summer heat. As we were nearing the end of our meal, we asked for our refrigerated cake back. The server must have not communicated this request to the manager, John. He was fully prepared to allow us to cut the cake in the restaurant. However, after we received our cake, a different server came to our table and informed us that we would not be able to cut it. When we heard this refusal a second time, our entire party got up and left the restaurant after paying the bill. One member of our party attempted to clear up the communication with John just for him to blame the servers and say that we were allowed to stay and cut the cake. After the fact that we were all already standing outside of the restaurant with cake in hand. Overall, I would recommend the food, but don't come with high expectations of good service. Especially, don't bring any type of intention to celebrate with you, as it's likely to be miscommunicated or even prohibited.

The food is excellent, but THE SERVICE TURN OUR EXPERIENCE UPSIDE DOWN. I won't be returning. I attended a birthday celebration with a large group of friends and family. We made a reservation at 7 pm and inquired if we could bring a cake. (Remember this detail.) The restaurant confirmed that we could bring a cake. We arrived on Father's Day, anticipating a busy restaurant. We were grateful that they reserved a table for us. One of my friends brought in a cake, and we asked if they could help us store it in the fridge. The person who took the cake informed us that they could store it for us but couldn't cut it because they had other reservations. We ordered appetizers, meats, and individually ordered soups. Since my friends have varying spice tolerances, we ordered different soups with different levels of spiciness. One of my friend ordered a regular beef soup, while others opted for spicy soups. We compared the regular and spicy soups ourselves, and the regular one tasted spicier than the spicy level. I asked the waiter if he could help us change the soup. He took it back to the kitchen and returned, stating that the chef had confirmed it was regular. (How did he know it was regular? Did they taste the soup? Hopefully, they used a clean spoon and then sent it back out to us.) The waiter did not accommodate in helping us change the soup but suggested that we could add more water to the soup. In addition to the soup issue, the staff seemed to be preoccupied with other tasks. We knew that we would have a lot of plates to clean up, so I would help the staff by stacking up the plates to make it easier for the staff to take them away. However, they didn't notice the stack of plates until I called them over and asked them to take them away. As we were wrapping up our meal, we checked to see if there were any people waiting in line to be seated. There were no one waiting, and there were four or five tables that were still available. Since it was only 8:20 pm and the restaurant closed at 9 pm, we thought it would be appropriate to eat our cake. However, when we asked for our cake, one of the servers informed us that we couldn't cut it. The server went to ask their manager (John) if we can cut the cake he said no. We were surprised because there was no one waiting and the table sitting next to us just got served their meal. As we left, one of my friend went to confront the manager and was wondering why we cannot eat our cake there. And as a manager he didn't even protect his staff and thew them under the bus. He stated " you can eat the cake here we just didn't want you to eat past 9pm". However when the server ask 10 mins ago, you said no. But now you want to say yes after the my entire party was out the door.

I was in Katy Asia town and was craving Korean bossam. They had what I wanted on the menu but it was a family portion LOL! So it was a bit pricey for one person. I ordered it anyway. It was absolutely delicious and the kimchi tasted so good too. I liked that the pork had some flavor and not just plain like other places. The inside is very clean and spacious seating. Service was really nice too. All the girls that helped me were nice.

Inviting atmosphere thanks to the friendly and attentive staff who frequently checked up on us during our visit! They're very knowledgeable about their extensive menu, which helped me narrow down my options. My friend and I ordered the grilled pork ribs with soy sauce flavor and the seafood pancake. The pork ribs were a little tough to cut, but they were thick and flavorful. As for the seafood pancake, they were very generous with the squid and shrimp. The batter, however, could have been better because it fell apart when cut and wasn't as chewy as we expected. This restaurant is currently BYOB (bring your own beer) while awaiting its liquor permit, with a $5 corkage fee for the entire table. Overall, my friend and I enjoyed our meal. We're curious about their short ribs and soups, so we'll definitely come back next time to try those!

Located in the popular Katy Asian town next to Hmart. I heard great things about the Dallas - Maht Gaek so I was excited to try the Houston location. The restaurant is very busy but the waiters were super attentive. The food was delicious and seasoned perfectly.

I was really excited to have Maht Gaek opening in Houston. The grilled pork ribs are known to be the real deal and it was indeed very tender and packed with all the right flavors. I personally would've preferred the ribs over a bed of sizzling onions rather than cabbages. The Cold Buckwheat Noodles was refreshing and paired nicely with the pork ribs. Banchan was where the experience felt flat for me. Side dishes can really elevate every bite, but none of the selection was impressive to make the meal taste cohesive. I left somewhat feeling unsatisfied -- not because the food wasn't good, but because it didn't fully meet the expectation I had going in. Considering the location and drive time, the food quality was just not high enough for me make a returning trip.

My family had dinner here last night. We'd been to the location in Dallas and had great meals at both. Katy location just opened. Nice, clean decor and ambience, and the service was very good. This is going to be out go-to Korean (non-bbq) restaurant in the Houston area. We had: Original spicy port ribs (5/5) - Delicious. Well flavoured and cooked. Spicy Squid Stir-Fry (5/5) - Reall good version of this dish. This is on the spicier side. Kalbi Tang (5/5) - Really good broth, 3 big pieces of bone-in ribs in the soup. Port Cutlet (3/5) - This was just okay, but probably not something that one should be ordering at this restaurant anyway. Can't wait to go back!

good value korean eats in katy!! wanted to get raw marinated crabs, but they weren't available that day. decided on tonkatsu and spicy nangmyeon tonkatsu was HUGEE, crispy exterior and juicy interior! can't ask for much more there, but their tonkatsu sauce is really interesting. there might be some cinnamon in there? unfortunately, it was a strange combo for us so we set it aside. nangmyeon was perfectly chewy and paired with a spicy sauce that coated the noodles well! great for a summer day got two jeju mandarin juices for free for leaving a google review as well

My sister was finally getting home early from work, so we decided it was the perfect time to give this location a try after loving it in Dallas. We ordered the Kalbijjim with cheese and rice cakes, and it absolutely did not disappoint. The meat was tender, rich, and flavorful, and the addition of melted cheese and chewy rice cakes made every bite even more satisfying. It was comforting, hearty, and exactly what we were craving. The restaurant wasn't very busy when we visited, which made for a relaxed dining experience. Service was great -- the staff were attentive without being overbearing and made sure we had everything we needed. The space still carries the layout from the previous restaurant, so it feels open and fairly spacious, which I appreciated. Note: If you order the Kalbijjim, prepare to share with you and 2 others or otherwise, be prepared to take some home. The portions were really generous!!

I was looking for a Korean restaurant in the Katy Asian Town area for dinner when I stumbled upon Maht Gaek. I noticed that it replaced a previous Korean restaurant called Bon Galbi which I did try but didn't like, and I was so glad that Maht Gaek turned out way above my expectations. Upon arrival, the restaurant was really busy, and we were told it would be about a 10 minutes wait. We were able to get a table after only about 5 minutes, which was great. Our server was nice, but it was difficult to get the server's attention because we were seated right next to a wall. For the dishes, we ordered spicy rice cakes, the grilled pork ribs original, and the mix (beef and seafood) tofu soup. The meal came with complimentary sides (potatoes, kimchi, fish cakes, and cucumbers). All the dishes turned out so flavorful and delicious. My favorite was definitely the pork ribs, but the tofu soup was amazing as well. I would definitely come back to Maht Gaek if I wanted Korean again in the Katy Asian Town area.

If this place is on your list I would definitely try it, if you have friends you can bring, bring them so you can share these big dishes together. I've had this spot before but in the DFW area so I knew what I was getting into. We ordered two main dishes and some Mandu, the short rib soup was good we added extra noodle but I'm not sure they gave us a whole bunch, but it's fine cuz the soup was so flavorful and the meat was so tender. The pork ribs were the star! I loved the char and the meaty rib and they gave us a lot! Eating it with the rice was so good, I want to repeat that meal haha. Service was nice nothing to note they were friendly, the restaurant was quaint and clean.
