If this place is on your list I would definitely try it, if you have friends you can bring, bring them so you can share these big dishes together. I've had this spot before but in the DFW area so I knew what I was getting into. We ordered two main dishes and some Mandu, the short rib soup was good we added extra noodle but I'm not sure they gave us a whole bunch, but it's fine cuz the soup was so flavorful and the meat was so tender. The pork ribs were the star! I loved the char and the meaty rib and they gave us a lot! Eating it with the rice was so good, I want to repeat that meal haha. Service was nice nothing to note they were friendly, the restaurant was quaint and clean.

I was really excited to have Maht Gaek opening in Houston. The grilled pork ribs are known to be the real deal and it was indeed very tender and packed with all the right flavors. I personally would've preferred the ribs over a bed of sizzling onions rather than cabbages. The Cold Buckwheat Noodles was refreshing and paired nicely with the pork ribs. Banchan was where the experience felt flat for me. Side dishes can really elevate every bite, but none of the selection was impressive to make the meal taste cohesive. I left somewhat feeling unsatisfied -- not because the food wasn't good, but because it didn't fully meet the expectation I had going in. Considering the location and drive time, the food quality was just not high enough for me make a returning trip.

My family had dinner here last night. We'd been to the location in Dallas and had great meals at both. Katy location just opened. Nice, clean decor and ambience, and the service was very good. This is going to be out go-to Korean (non-bbq) restaurant in the Houston area. We had: Original spicy port ribs (5/5) - Delicious. Well flavoured and cooked. Spicy Squid Stir-Fry (5/5) - Reall good version of this dish. This is on the spicier side. Kalbi Tang (5/5) - Really good broth, 3 big pieces of bone-in ribs in the soup. Port Cutlet (3/5) - This was just okay, but probably not something that one should be ordering at this restaurant anyway. Can't wait to go back!

My sister was finally getting home early from work, so we decided it was the perfect time to give this location a try after loving it in Dallas. We ordered the Kalbijjim with cheese and rice cakes, and it absolutely did not disappoint. The meat was tender, rich, and flavorful, and the addition of melted cheese and chewy rice cakes made every bite even more satisfying. It was comforting, hearty, and exactly what we were craving. The restaurant wasn't very busy when we visited, which made for a relaxed dining experience. Service was great -- the staff were attentive without being overbearing and made sure we had everything we needed. The space still carries the layout from the previous restaurant, so it feels open and fairly spacious, which I appreciated. Note: If you order the Kalbijjim, prepare to share with you and 2 others or otherwise, be prepared to take some home. The portions were really generous!!

I was looking for a Korean restaurant in the Katy Asian Town area for dinner when I stumbled upon Maht Gaek. I noticed that it replaced a previous Korean restaurant called Bon Galbi which I did try but didn't like, and I was so glad that Maht Gaek turned out way above my expectations. Upon arrival, the restaurant was really busy, and we were told it would be about a 10 minutes wait. We were able to get a table after only about 5 minutes, which was great. Our server was nice, but it was difficult to get the server's attention because we were seated right next to a wall. For the dishes, we ordered spicy rice cakes, the grilled pork ribs original, and the mix (beef and seafood) tofu soup. The meal came with complimentary sides (potatoes, kimchi, fish cakes, and cucumbers). All the dishes turned out so flavorful and delicious. My favorite was definitely the pork ribs, but the tofu soup was amazing as well. I would definitely come back to Maht Gaek if I wanted Korean again in the Katy Asian Town area.

Great place to get Korean food around Katy Texas! My favorite was the short rib as it was thin and juicy. Everything else was good, it was my first time trying raw marinated crab and I've always been a texture person so I wasn't a huge fan. Overall, I highly recommend and would come back.

I really enjoyed myself on my own solo date here. I've been looking for an authentic type of Suyuk restaurant in the Houston area and this is literally the closest to it and I'm very pleased. I believe the restaurant is still fairly new as the interior was pristine. The staff are great and I think they were shocked when I decided to eat almost a whole combination Suyuk by myself. I giggled and said it's okay because not many of people I know like to eat what I eat and aren't as "adventurous" which is totally okay because I get to have it all for myself. The manager or owner was super sweet!!!! She made me her secret dipping sauce and I was in love with it and her recommendation. I'd say for you all looking at reviews to just give it a try, and when you're done eating, go do a walk around hmart for digestion then get your dessert around the plaza. I hope Maht Gaek will still be here when I come back to Houston next year. lol. Thank you to the staff and manager for taking care of me while I dined. I had a wonderful experience.

    Ribs. These were awesome!

The ribs here are fantastic! Flavorful and juicy. Galbi Jim was tender and tasty with some added rice cakes. It felt the spice level wasn't too crazy. Also ordered the raw blue crab dish which was interesting. Tastes pretty good but a bit too tough to eat without cutting your hands or potentially your mouth with all the sharp edges. Be careful! Now keep in mind, they just opened and they seem to be getting their feet under them. They are currently understaffed and all aspects of service currently can be improved including speed and level of attention to details. There was a point where I looked outside to see 4-5 groups waiting and yet inside the restaurant there were several tables that were empty. But that said, it may also have been an off day and wouldn't keep me from coming back. Parking is of course tough on weekends cause it's in Katy Asiatown. So just keep that in mind.

Good food good service!(: would recommend! Always come here when craving Korean comfort food

Great Korean restaurant. Yummy flavors. Friendly service. Although we needed to ask for more water, kimchi and grab our own to-go boxes so they weren't very proactive. The ox bone soup did not hit my taste buds. Very Korean atmosphere although not a good flow of organization of the tables and chairs Would recommend.

    Burnt grilled pork rib

No service at all. Appetizer is on the table. No one brings plates. No water. Guy name John has a bad attitude. Emailed manager about this bad experience. To my surprise, manager's response emphasizes twice that it is important their staff feel respected. Suggest manager get trained as well!

The smell when you walk into the restaurant is incredible. The interior is small but spacious. They actually offer a lot on the menu and have different options of korean food. I will say that it is a little bit on the pricey side. After you order they give you banchan, I thought they were pretty good and compliment the meal very well. I got the ox bone soup which came with a lot of meat and some noodles. Obviously you have to season it yourself with salt and pepper but it was really good and comforting. It definitely hits the spot on a cold day. My bf and friend got the sausage and spam soft tofu soup regular spice. When we first looked at the soup we were scared that it would be too spicy but it was perfect. Inside had tofu, spam, sausage, egg, and pork belly. The flavor of the soup was amazing and smoky, I would definitely come back for the soft tofu soup. I wish the service was a little bit better like refilling the sides that were finished but other than that they were really friendly.

My favorite is the gamjatang---there is so much meat, the potatoes are piping hot, and the soup is perfectly seasoned and rich. The pancakes and blood sausages are also delicious. I love coming here whenever I crave authentic Korean food: everything from the service to the meal itself is top-tier. The prices are also very very reasonable, especially lunch prices! There were plenty of veggies (cabbage) and squid. The shrimp were small and kind of mushy - probably from a frozen bag or just not fresh. I didn't mind though. The serving size of noodles were perfect, and maybe a little bit more than I wanted since I couldn't finish the whole bowl. The jiajiangmein looked equally as delicious - my friend said there was a lot of onion in the sauce. The array of banchan consisted of kimchi, marinated bean sprouts, cold kimchi pancake, and marinated spicy cucumber. Yummy banchan as well. Tasty Ko is a great spot if you're not wanting to drive all the way to the Spring Branch area for Korean food, and not wanting to spend an arm and a leg at Katy Asian Town. A thick noodle is used for the Japchae which held on to the flavor really well and provided more of a bite. The Jajang Myeon and Soup were absolutely bursting with flavor - bold, rich, and truly satisfying. They perfectly captured the essence of what these dishes should taste like: delivering a home-cooked taste at restaurant quality. As typical of Korean restaurant, every meal comes with an assortment of banchan. The kimchi was perfection and it seems like there are unlimited refills for the banchan. Let's not forget that this is a Pocha! There are lots of drink options and they are open late. This also makes for a great place for large groups and seating ranges from open tables or private booths for those looking for something more private. There is an open stage where I suppose open-mic karaoke used to take place, but as of 01/2025 management has put up signs stating it's currently not in use due to noise complaints from the neighbors. Still, there are plenty of private karaoke rooms to be put to use. This place is a hidden gem - it seems like a well-kept secret tucked away in this little neighborhood. The older staff are the ones cooking your meat in front of you. It's a hit or miss as I have been here and another location multiple times. Not all, but some of the cooking staff are very hasty to cook as they jump from table to table. They splattered oil (which can happen) and didn't apologize about the incident. No acknowledgment. The older staff are not as friendly. But again, I have seen moments, where they are so considerate, and cook at another table (other table was empty). Could be a language barrier thing also. I prefer that they slow down on the cooking, or even allow me to cook myself. 2. Price - we roughly paid $90 for 3 people. 1 meat dishes is roughly $30. 3. We decided to add as we needed more. For a party of 2.5, we had about 3 meat dishes. That was more than enough. If this is your first time, I recommend to get their BEEF BRISKET, PORK GALBI, and THINLY SLICED PORK BELLY. You get one bowl of rice per order of meat dish.
