From the moment you step into the clean, large restaurant, you get greeted by the loveliest Korean ahjummas and are seated at a table next to a TV playing some K-Drama. The menu is big, but every item on it is executed so well. The flavors are comparable to that you'll get in Korea, with the side dishes few but perfect (the kimchi, jjangachi, and radish kimchi). My favorite is the gamjatang---there is so much meat, the potatoes are piping hot, and the soup is perfectly seasoned and rich. The pancakes and blood sausages are also delicious. I love coming here whenever I crave authentic Korean food: everything from the service to the meal itself is top-tier. The prices are also very very reasonable, especially lunch prices! Parking is plentiful and it's right off the freeway. Oh wow, this stand alone Korean restaurant was amazing. Set a little bit from asia town, well worth the trip. We had a big party. And this place was able to accommodate us! I could not wait to get the dol sot mushroom bibimbap, and it came out on a hot plate with handles! The rice was so crunchy and everything very flavorful. Came here for lunch on cold windy Sunday and left super happy. My friends compare this spot with places in Korea and I can definitely see why. Very authentic flavors in the stews that warm you up to the soul. They were unfortunately sold out of the gamjatang but the dakdoritang was a great alternative for me. My friend suggested we try this place. I was totally unaware of its existence, and I had yet to try a Korean restaurant in Katy, so I was excited to try it! Upon entering I marveled at how busy they were during the lunch hour. The patrons were mostly Korean, which is always a good sign. An older lady approached as waitstaff and asked if I wanted some barley tea, which I declined. Not a huge fan of it, but it's nice to know they offer it. My dining partner and I shared a seafood pancake for an appetizer! I loved that they brought two separate dipping sauces so we didn't have to share! As for the seafood pancake, texture wise it was incredible! Nice crispy outside with a chewy inside. My only issue with it was it barely contained any seafood at all, which is a shame. The three banchan that we received were all tasty, with the cabbage kimchi being my favorite! I enjoy that it was fresh and not very fermented. We definitely requested a refill. As for my main meal, I ordered the gamja tang which is my go to. It is comprised of pork neck bones and potatoes plus a mess of spring onions, soaking in a nice simmering hot broth. I love the succulent little bits of tendon and meat still clinging to the bone, and honestly I took most of this home so I could gnaw on the tendons attached to the hefty bones like a dirty savage. This is hands down my all time favorite korean restaurant. All of the workers are super nice and friendly. The food leaves me speechless every time I go and eat. This time I got the Budae Jjigae, kimchi pancake, and galbi. Their kimchi pancake and galbi is the best I've ever had! The batter is super crispy and the flavor is amazing. The sauce for the galbi is perfect, I mix the extra sauce in my rice and it's to die for and the meat is so tender. First, the banchan is absolutely delicious and just spicy enough to give you a good kick. We were able to buy a small tub of their banchan for $10, which while is more expensive than the grocery store options, is totally worth it for a top notch banchan. My highlight was definitely the oxtail soup, a mild soup that I have been searching for months in Houston ever since I first had it in LA and it felt like a warm hug and perfect for a cold day. The spicy cold noodle is also absolutely delicious and totally manageable for someone who doesn't eat a whole lot of spicy food. YUM. This is the perfect place for the colder weather we've been experiencing lately. We ordered the Haemul Pajeon (Seafood Pancake), Kimchi Jjigae (Kimchi Stew), and Seollung-Tang (Ox Bone Soup). We ordered the Gamja- Jeongol (the spicy pork neck bone and potato stew) to share and it was plenty of food for 4 people. The stew itself was very hearty with plenty of potatoes and meat, however the broth itself was a bit bland and was not spicy in my opinion. (5/10) The ban chan, however, such as the kimchi, the radish, and the marinated cucumber and zuchini were all very fresh and flavorful (7/10). This homey Korean restaurant situated on the opposite side of I-10 from Katy Asian Town is a new favorite, particularly after a long afternoon soaking at the Korean spa. As you'll see from the menu, the specialties are soups, stews, and bibimbap - of what I've tried so far, the intensely rich and meaty gamja-tang is my top pick, each spoonful an addictive volcanic gamble that threatens to singe off your taste buds lest you practice sufficient patience to let the broth cool ever so slightly. If you're dining in, the hot stone bibimbap is worth the upcharge from its regular counterpart - few things in the Katy area are more satisfying than breaking the egg yolk all over gochujang-drizzled crispy rice. The housemade banchan are crisp and perfectly funky - in particular, the cucumber/apple/jalapeno dish was new to me but its sweet and tangy notes were a welcome relief from the fire of other dishes. I've heard so much about this place, from friends, social media, and local buzz, all claiming it's the best spot for authentic Korean food in town. Since it's right by my house, I had to see for myself. We visited on a Saturday afternoon around 2-3 PM. It was fairly packed but not overcrowded, and my first impression was already a good one. The moment you walk in and hear people speaking Korean, you know you've come to the right place. Most of the customers were Korean, and the staff were even taking orders in Korean- which says a lot about its authenticity. But keep in mind: authentic doesn't mean cheap. The prices here are definitely on the higher side, but it makes sense. The portions are generous, the quality is noticeably better, and the flavors are spot-on. One of the highlights for me was the banchan, especially the kimchi. The best I've had. It's clearly homemade and has that deep, fermented flavor you don't find in store-bought versions. The menu isn't huge, which I actually appreciate, it means they focus on doing a few things really well. Since we knew the portions were big (and the prices a bit steep), we ordered two entrées and one side to share: * Soondae (Korean Blood Sausage): Mild in flavor but super soft and moist, not dry at all. It comes with a salt and pepper mix on the side, which I believe is the traditional way to eat it. * Haemul Soondubu (Spicy Seafood Soft Tofu Stew): Served piping hot in a huge pot, larger than any other place I've been to. Packed with seafood and loaded with toppings that kept showing up the more we ate. Full of flavor and very satisfying. * Mul Naengmyeon + Bulgogi Combo: They will give you vinegar and mustard bottle on the side. The cold noodles had the perfect chewy texture, just the way they're supposed to be. We asked for extra sauce like we usually do at other places, but honestly, we didn't even need it the dish already came well-seasoned. The bulgogi was delicious, though we wished the portion of meat was a bit more generous. We shared everything between the two of us and left completely full, even my husband, who usually eats for two! The homemade kimchi and even the way they store their utensils added thoughtful, authentic touches. The interior is simple and reminds me of what you'd see in a Korean drama clean, modest, and traditional. A small critique: while the portions and flavor justify the pricing for the most part, I do think they could offer a bit more meat in the dishes that include it. They also have a lunch special from Monday to Friday (10:30 AM - 2:00 PM) which is only $1 off the regular price. Personally, I think they could do more with the "special" to make it feel like a real deal, especially since you won't find any entrée under $10 except for side dishes. Came here with some friends on their recommendation and had a great time! This is a really delicious, authentic, family-owned Korean restaurant just outside of the Katy Asia Town plaza. Given its proximity to H-Mart, there's plenty of competition nearby and probably why I haven't come across this place sooner; but the variety in their menu, the good portion sizes, great service, and the recipe they use for their kimchi make me want to come back here over the other restaurants in the area. All the food I got to try was amazing. Both the seafood and kimchi jeon were crispy and flavorful, and I would easily order either of them again. We also had the jokbal, which was super pricy, but it made sense given how generous a portion it was. But it was the steamed mandu that took me by surprise with how juicy and flavorful it was- I may not have ordered it if I was on my own, but I'm so glad my friends did because this is DEFINITELY a must try. These dishes are meant to be sides to compliment main dishes, but like any co-star, they also need to shine just as bright. All the banchan offered was pickled. We came on a Saturday night, it wasn't packed and we got seated right away. Like every other Korean restaurant they start you off with free banchan, though none of them was very good. We didn't even ask for any refills. We ordered the soondae (blood sausage) which didn't have much taste and a large pot of Kamja tang (potatoes pork bone soup) which was mediocre. Neither of the dishes stood out to us and left us with much to be desired. With the prices of the dishes we expected better quality and taste. I have got to say I don't venture out to the Katy Asian Town direction often since the food is mediocre, but would happily make a stop at To Soc Chon when I am in the area! You can easily miss the restaurant when driving on the I-10 feeder, so be on the lookout for the signage. The restaurant has a large space, and the service has been really good the times I have come. The dishes I enjoy here the most have been the Bossam, Jokbal, Samgyetang, and the Bibimbap. Samgyetang would definitely be great for this winter weather. My only complaint would be that the price could be steeper than what you're used to in Korean Town/Long Point area, and they do not serve lettuce wrap but instead charge for White fermented cabbage to roll with the Bossam/Jokbal instead. Its situated in front of a motel which makes me think this facility use to be an IHOP or Denny's in its prior life. Either way, its a mile away from Katy Asian Town so no biggy. Its pretty good in terms of authenticity (usually a lot of koreans eating there) and also theres a 'auntie' that walks around pointing out your inadequacies and giving you directions in how to eat the food. Nothing more Asian than that! They do have a healthy amount of cold dishes to warm up your appetite and usually I go heavier on them since they are refillable. I got their bibimbap and it could have fed me for multiple meals. It was fresh, tasty and beautiful to even look at. Wife got a beef tofu soup that also was pretty decent portion and deliciously hot. You know the place's legit when you barely see any reviews about it online but it's packed with Koreans inside. Overall, I think their strong point is the various options for soup. I was really excited to have a place specialized in soondae in Katy so I got their soondae soup along with a side soondae. The soondae itself was a bit too gluttonous because the noodles inside are quite thick, but the soup was amazing. Great broth with a variety of protein including soondae. The kimchi here is one of the best I've ever had. Seafood pancake was perfectly seasoned and crispy, but it was mainly pancake with only a little bit of squid inside. Finally, if you decide to go for the bibimbap, I would recommend getting the stone pot even if it's a bit more expensive. this was our second visit and don't know why we don't come here more often. everything is good and tasty. they don't have tons of different banchan but what they serve, it's fresh with good flavor. and lastly, great and prompt service. ladies that work there are very friendly and responsive. read more
