This is the second time I've been here. The first time experience during lunch was meh just OK but this time for dinner exceeded our expectations. Yes it cost more but I loved the selections. It had these huge oysters and huge scallops that made it totally worth and the meat cuts were amazing. Everything was so fresh. Great selections for dinner. I've been on a cabbage addiction lately, wrapping everything. I'd blanch the cabbage and wrapped my meat with my special sauce and I ate it that way. lol you can eat so much more that way! So good! Lesson to the wise for an Ayce Shabu. Don't eat the noodles until the end :) so we're getting really good at this all you can eat Shabu business. It is so good. We had so much fun and we ate so much. The wait staff was so kind and so nice. The only reason I didn't give an extra star is that we came on a Sunday night and they aren't even closing, but they stopped refilling things an hour before. They stopped refilling the garlic. There was no more spoons out for the ice cream. There's no more crawfish or Cajun boil out and they stopped coming to refill your soup or check up on you after a while. Other than that the food was delicious so that's why I'm hesitant to give it five stars. The place is huge. The music is loud with a lot of K-pop. There is a two hour time limit, but it's all you can eat during that time, but don't ask for something and not eat it! Fair warning. They have a great selection of broth to start your pot with, along with all sorts of veggies, seafood, sauces, spices and a great selection of meats to make the meal uniquely yours! I got the fresh beef bone gravy base soup which was pretty basic but still good. For lunch time, we were allowed to choose from meats #5-11. Our favorites were the beef belly- thin and tender. The sauce bar was lit; they had everything you could possibly need. Additionally, the noodle selection was great. They had ramen, egg, kale noodles and a few others. Fresh vegetables and seafood. They also offered japchae, tteokbokki, and fried rice along with typical side dishes such as a variety of kimchi. The selection all around was amazing. The ice cream was really tough to scoop out, so I got as much as my strength could give lol. I liked the subtle coffee flavor. Our server was super sweet and social. We gave this place a try tonight and I hate to say it but it was very disappointing. I was very excited to try a new dining experience but this was not it. The place looked nice and it had potential on first impression. That was until we sat down and realized how much the customer service was lacking. We explained that this was our first time trying hot pot and there was a minuscule introduction on how it worked. This is an "all you can eat" but really got "how much patience" do you have. It wasn't until I had to get up and ask if there is anyone that can assist since we were just left there waiting around. Normally you'd think, if this is your first time here maybe we can check up a little more often to see how things are going but that was not our case. There were a lot of different options to pick from. It was great to see and wonder how you can make it all work since I'm not really a chef. Once back at the table where the beef plates were dropped off, it was not fun to see flies fly around over our food. Once it was all set and done, there was ice cream for dessert but they were all lacking flavor big time. The pineapple chunks were at least good. Sad to say but we will not be coming back. Decided to check out Shabu Town for our very first hotpot experience. And unfortunately I was severely disappointed with the service especially after stating we have never done hotpot before. After our initial order, we were left waiting and waiting for our next round of meats. Finally we had to go up and let one of the servers know we have been waiting and want to order more food. For an all you can eat place, it almost felt like it wasn't. They were super quick with the check though! The broths were kind of bland, but the sauces definitely helped bring some flavor to the meal. The side buffet was really nice. Lots of accompaniments along with some seafood. There was only two people taking orders and maybe a manager to assist. Other staffs handled emptying plates and restocking the buffet area. If you're into good broths and good meat selections, this is not the place. If you're new and don't care, come here. Individual broth pots, which is fine but the broths taste like instant noodles packets. The meat slices are so thin, it's thinner than rice papers. You cannot get any thinner than this. However, the vegetables selections are quite good. Clean and fresher than most AYCE hotpot buffets. There's a good selection of seafoods and noodles as well. There's enough space to walk and to eat. But when one of the waitresses assisted me, she would always bring my the food and leave without saying another word. I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The cleanliness was concerning from the start. The plates appeared dirty, seats were dirty table pots still had residues the dining area was not well maintained, and the water was clearly not filtered and was clearly tap water served with lemon. The customer service was even worse. When I asked our server if he could request the cook to put out fresh fried rice because the rice on the buffet looked like it had been sitting out too long, was not hot, and only sticky crumbs were left, he refused and told me to "just take the rice off the top and eat that." Trying to move past the poor service, I continued my meal only to find a fine strand of hair in my broth. When I showed it to one of the employees, she confirmed that it was indeed a hair. It was very fine, straight, and dark brown, similar to a dog hair or possibly a worker's hair. My hair was in braids, so it clearly did not come from me. I also observed the same servers preparing the broth without hair nets, which may explain how the hair ended up in my food. When the server who claimed to be the manager came over and asked if I wanted a new broth, I explained that I no longer felt comfortable eating and wanted to be compensated for finding hair in my food. Instead of handling the situation professionally, he told me that I was free to leave if I wanted. I explained that my son was enjoying his meal and I didn't want to ruin his experience, but my own dining experience was completely ruined. I was disgusted and no longer able to enjoy my meal. The manager ultimately stated that I would only be charged for my son's dinner, but that I could not receive a replacement broth and continue eating. By that point, the damage was already done. Between the dirty conditions, poor customer service, and finding hair in my food, I will not be returning and cannot recommend this restaurant. I wanted to enjoy but it was horrible. read more

The server was really nice explaining their rules at the beginning, but not saying anything when dropping meat and rushed away. We really enjoyed it here. They have a good selection of options for their AYCE. Lots of space inside. It wasn't very busy even on a weekend evening which I was surprised by. Prices were reasonable too for the options. Customer service was good. Everyone was very nice and frequently came to check on us. Some of the sides options like the noodles weren't as great as some of the side options were either pretty much at the bottom of the pan or it just tasted like it had been sitting out for a while and the taste and texture was off. One of the best kept secrets in Katy and hotpots! We frequent Shabu Zone down in Alief Chinatown, however, the crowd is always massive there and a long wait if you don't get there early enough. Discovered this place from a friend and if you want to avoid the crowds and go to a cleaner environment, then this is the place for you. Shabu Town took over a Chinese buffet which was sadly what I remembered as a pretty good Chinese buffet restaurant. The location isn't that great for business but hopefully this place will stay running. The meat is good quality. I like their premade sauces as well. They also serve japchae (Korean noodles), fried rice and tteokbokki (Korean spicy rice cake) on occasions. They used to bring out ice cream to you after dinner upon request, which I liked because you didn't have people digging their arms and hand to scoop out ice cream, but unfortunately ice cream is now self-serve like Shabu Zone. Staff was friendly and attentive. Pick up coming by checking on us asking if we needed additional drink or more broth. You have your own hotspot so you can choose your broth and make it your way. In the beginning when the waiters come and take your order, you let them know what kind of broth you want and you also let them know what kind of meats you want for the table. Love the variety of items to choose from for hot pot.. there is a lot of seafood the scallops were delicious and ginormous. The shrimp were also large and delicious.. there are different types of fish balls to choose from. The sauce bar is really nice. Also, I like that there is a lot of vegetarian options for people to choose from and lots of different types of noodles. So my favorite items are that they have an egg for you to add to your hot,pot or hot pot sauce. I also like the sweet potato cakes. They are so delicious. Came here with a friend on a Saturday night for dinner. We didn't have trouble finding parking or a table at all. The service was quick and have a family fe to it. Each person at the table gets their own soup base so it's easy to customize it to your liking. The toppings/add ons to the hotpot is plentiful. There are 3 long bars just for these. There is nothing missing. If you want it, it's there. There is also a lot of options to customize your own dipping sauce as well. I had the bone broth soup. Please know this is solely on service and principle. The meat/food is always 10/10. I've liked Shabu Town because I get the best of both Korean BBQ and hotpot. The environment is very chilled and the music never misses. Recently they've added an automatic 18% tip to your ticket. Last time I stopped one of the younger ladies just to give a kind word of advice. Informing her if you were going to take my option of tipping away or putting a minimum on it, you gotta make sure the service matches. I'm all for the chilled workers, like as long as I'm good I can't complain. However, if I'm looking for you constantly or having to get up to get your attention, ehhh, it kinda sucks. I compromised because the food is great. I just tip my $10 and keep moving. Unless, they really interact with me then I'll gladly tip more. (I'm also the same person that cleans up everything from the table including the ground before I leave.) She did inform me they could take it off. I said no, it's only $5 more than I usually tip. That's okay. Brings us to today, the 2nd, food of course amazing. As my daughter is throwing a tantrum, we are patiently waiting for our ticket. I finally get up and ask the lady sitting down on her phone for our tab. She proceeds to hand me the tab right on the table next to her.... I check it, I see the 18% close to $18. Now maybe it's just me, but that's close to a $20 tip. I ask her to remove it. She says it's the policy. I told her the last time they told us we could remove it and tip whatever we'll like. At this point she's being rude, takes the tab, says "this is my establishment, I can charge you whatever I like." Glad I found a good shabu place close to home! I've always dreaded going down to Bellaire for good shabu, luckily that's no longer a problem. I like the vibe a lot better here because it's less people, so people not crowding and hogging by the food stations, etc. The servers were nice and the soup base I chose was flavorful. I've tried this place twice because my parents like it a lot and I like eating on this side of town. It is clean and a really large space. The broth I normally order is the spicy bone broth. It is spicy but needs lots of seasoning from the sauce bar- garlic, salt, green onions. Otherwise, it is very bland. What I really like is that they have lots of kimchi! I add it to my soup and I eat it with my meat. This is how I get flavor in my soup too! The beef quality is good. It's generally very fatty, but you can ask the waiter for something less fatty and they will recommend something for you. I stick with the ribeye and pork belly. The vegetable, seafood, noodles, dumplings, hot food, and fruit are self serve. It is always tidy and fresh. Dinner prices are 29.99. Why I like it: -The wait staff is very nice and it isn't so busy that I feel rushed to leave. -It doesn't smell like the other stinky pot or little lamb places. - Plenty of room to spread out and sit away from people. - I get my own pot to cook whatever I like and control the temperature. - Free ice cream at the end. Pretty solid ingredients all around, veggies very fresh. Loved the neatly arranged small knots of different flavored noodles, so I could try them all and not get full right away. Seafood could be fresher but what can you expect from a mid price buffet? Red meats were definitely not as good quality as Shabu Zone, most of them falling on the leaner/less marbled side. And there was nothing special about the broths. They did have a great sauce bar, but most of the sauces were pre-mixed. There was no sesame sauce by itself which was a disappointment for me. TLDR: Es-good. Let me start off by saying that I grew up not caring for the hotpot experience BUT this place has really changed my perspective. My husband and I came to this place PreCOVID and have been back regularly since. I've even brought my entire family here for special occasions. That's how legit this place is. The pots are served individually. You can order your drinks and meat selections through your server but everything else is self service. I LOVE THAT! You would think a restaurant - let alone AYCE- would start to drop its quality over time (specially during those difficult pandemic days) but they've been keeping up. In fact, seems like quality is getting better. Things look nicer. I love that they blast KPOP too :) Anyways, if you're a fan of comfort food or casual eats, or even KPOP, this is really a must-try. The staff was polite and quick to take our orders. I don't remember exactly what broths my boyfriend and I ordered, but either way... the broths were kind of bland. Hence the only reason I'm rating this place 4 stars out of 5. You can season the broths though with the toppings (green onions, onions, garlic, etc.) and even add in the sauces too to give it more flavor. They also did have a wide assortment of different vegetables and seafood; definitely a bigger selection than our usual go-to place. Their meat selection was also relatively big too and I enjoyed that they serve more meat than what I'm used to. I think 2-3 plates was enough for the both of us; that should say something about how much meat is served on a platter. Overall, we did have a good experience.
