Food: 4/5 stars Service: 3/5 stars…read moreAmbience: 5/5 Overall experience: 3.5 stars First time at this location, and it's been a feel years since I dined at a Mala Sichuan. Nicely decorated inside. Parking is not the best at Katy Asia Town, but we got lucky. Was seated promptly. Ordered: - red oil dumplings (addicting/delicious; not too spicy & more on the sweeter side) - Dan dan noodles (pretty good) - basil crispy chicken (looked plain but tasted great!) - dry fried double veggies (green beans & bamboo shoots; seasoned well but you can tell there were a mix of fresh & old green beans) Service was a bit subpar. - Waitress never checked on our table - Had to flag her down 3x to get the bill and to-go boxes - Was standing and getting ready to leave. Waitress bumps into me and she just yells "AHH" *gave a look* didn't even apologize. Idk if i wanna dine at this specific location again LOL. There are plenty of other Chinese restaurants in Katy Asia Town with good food & better service.

The staff appeased my mom while we had a mini photo shoot in the front with their many adorable decor items, including a throw pillow shaped like a mahjong piece and another like the famous lucky cat. We were famished and ordered nearly half the menu. Some standouts include the mala tofu with fish fillet, dry pot shrimp, mung bean jelly noodles, and eggplant in garlic sauce. The portions were large and meant for family style dining. The staff was really friendly and rushed over to compliment my mom on all her jade, which made her day. The place was bright and clean, the kitchen was speedy, serving all our dishes all at once, and food was genuinely good. We didn't feel rushed or upcharged for everything. It was a totally satisfying experience.

Spicy yet addictive…read more Service and atmosphere: It's a good size restaurant located in the shopping area. The service was good. Polite and nice staff members. Food and drinks: This place has well designed menu that lets you easily choose from many different dishes. There is something for everyone here, from soups to shareable dishes, noodle options, and variety of meats. The spice levels are added for awareness. The food was very flavoursome, well seasoned and balanced. All foods had traditional flavours to them. You can choose flavoured green teas to accompany your meal. Pricing: $$ - definitely worth it for the taste, quality and quantity of food served.

Service was spot on, quick, and we got our food in what felt like maybe a few minutes. We started off with pork dumplings for the kiddo, which he INHALED in moments. For entrees, we split the orange chicken and the Spicy/Numbing Pot. The orange chicken was spot on. The sauce was sweet but not painfully sweet or thick/clumpy. Really nice orange flavor and tender chicken. So much fun eating it since it is gluten free! Our kiddo also devoured this dish! Mild - not spicy at all! The Spicy Numbing Pot, while a little oily/greasy on the bottom, was still delicious! I appreciated that it wasn't knock your socks off spicy - it had a solid kick, and so flavorful. I love eating dishes with Sichuan Pepper; it has a lot of flavor, and the tingling is so much fun. This dish was perfect with some rice, and it wasn't too heavy for the middle of the day. The prices were really reasonable, and there was enough food for leftovers which we ate later that night. Our only regret is not getting the duck appetizer, but we will be sure to get it next time. We can't wait to go back, and Tiger Noodle will happily be in regular rotation for our family! You can't go wrong!

It's not too pricy considering the quality of the food. Most of the patrons appear to be Chinese when we visited (a good sign).

The decor is attractive, it reminds of Cantonese restaurants in NYC. We ordered the fried squid(won't order again, no flavor and batter is very oily, like was fried in old oil), the green beans with grounded meat(good flavor but there's hardly much ground meat, it was more like a garnish), and finally the honey walnut shrimp(won't order that again either, for $25, there was 13 small shrimp and not very saucy). So in all, I did not love these dishes, they were just average tasting but the prices were high for such average to below average taste. There are other choices within walking distance for better tasting food that cost less. I have heard that they have good wonton noodle soup and congee so will try that next time before I write off this restaurant completely, but honestly, it's cheaper and those 3 dishes I ordered are cheaper and tastier at Tan Tan Wok.

hunan kitchen has been a staple for yearssss, truly my fav restaurant ever and hands down the best…read morechinese food i've had!! the interior has plenty of seating, making it great for both family dinners and group gatherings. the owners are a couple: a super friendly woman and the diligent chef. the service is always attentive and fast and the food comes out SOOO quickly. portions are also huuuge at consistently high quality. what really sets this place apart is the depth of flavor, the spice levels are just right. you taste the chili, sichuan peppercorn, and mala fragrances, along with that unmistakable wok hei!! nothing feels muted or overly aggressive. - one must-order is the hunan bbq fish (君山烤鱼). at just over $30, ITS SUCH A STEALLL for what you get: an entire seabass served in a massive chafing dish, surrounded by a medley of vegetables like cauliflower, potatoes, lotus root, and peppers. the fish is tender and flaky, not overly salty or spicy, but infused with a beautifully fragrant mala heat. it's perfect for celebratory meals or sharing with a big group - the sautéed preserved pork with dried smoked bamboo shoots (烟笋炒腊肉) is an absolute classic. the cured pork belly has an intense smokiness that hits you immediately, with alternating bites of rich fatty pieces and deeply savory lean cuts. the bamboo shoots add texture and soak up all that flavor - their poached sliced beef in hot chili oil (水煮牛肉) is another standout. the beef is incredibly succulent, swimming in a chili oil broth that's bursting with aroma without being overwhelming. this dish can often be too oily or salty elsewhere, but hunan kitchen nails the balance! - the sauteed diced chicken with chili pepper (辣子鸡) is my all time FAVVV and something i've loved since growing up. the chicken is perfectly crispy and crunchy while staying juicy on the inside. paired with dried chilies and peppercorns, the numbing spice slowly creeps in and builds as you eat. its ADDICTING in the most dangerous way, and i genuinely cannot stop eating it every time - the stir-fried diced chicken with green peppercorn (青花椒鸡丁) offers a slightly different flavor profile that i really love. the chicken is tender, and the green peppercorn brings a refreshing, citrusy, almost electric numbing sensation that feels lighter and brighter compared to red chilies. it's bold and a really fun contrast to some of the other dishes - for something non spicy, the seafood and japanese tofu (海鲜玉子豆腐) is PURE COMFORT FOOD for me. the tofu is lightly crisped on the outside but sooo silky inside, topped with soft fish fillets, huge shrimp, and a rich, glossy sauce packed with umami. i ascend every single time i eat it LOL overall, hunan kitchen is insanely worth it for the price. the portions are massive, the quality is consistently high, and for how authentic and flavorful the food is, it's honestly such a steal. you get way more than what you pay for, especially when ordering family style, and they even offer lunch specials, which makes it easy to come back often for a quick meal. it's such an underrated spot in katy and i wish more people talked about it :') this place deserves way more love!!
