It has taken us a while to find a Chinese restaurant we both loved. We love the pan fried dumplings as an appetizer, and we usually get an order of the vegetable fried rice and General Tso's chicken to share. Beijing Ranch maintains their 5-star rating with me. Looking through the reviews, I wonder if I am going to the same restaurant as these other people? Tonight was the busiest I have ever seen in there and Emily was serving all 7 tables with ease and her unshakeable charm. Our food came out fast, hot, and delicious, as always. My water stayed topped and you could not get a single complaint out of me except for some noisy preteens at another table. I guess my boyfriend would complain that they don't serve alcohol but that is no concern of mine! Their portion sizes are smaller so they can serve our community fresh, delicious dishes at a lower cost than a lot of other Chinese places. Their hot oil wontons are still our absolute favorite and we crave them all the time. I have yet to see hot oil wontons on ANY other menu. I wish folks would get with the program, because Beijing Ranch is leagues better than lots of places around. If you know a better place, let me know! I hate doing a negative review especially for a small business. First, the menu is reasonably priced, food is plentiful, and my pick up was ready when I got there. That is about alll positive I can say as the food was NOT good. First I had to ask for to go silverware and when I got to hotel it was broken. No condiments even though I was the only customer in the place and never offered. A "favorite" was Mongolian beef. It should have been Mongolian onions with beef. It was so salty I couldn't eat but 1/4 of it. Ordered fried rice upgrade and I'm used to some veggies, maybe a little egg , and seasonings. This was just rice cooked in soy sauce with zero flavor. The owners are extremely genuine and are dedicated to using the most authentic ingredients (they will often come up and talk to you, super friendly people). You can taste the difference in the food from any other Chinese restaurant in all of their dishes. The atmosphere and the decorations of the place are also a nice touch. My personal favorites on the menu is the pork with garlic sauce, kung pao chicken, and any of the fresh seasonal sautéed veggies with garlic. This restaurant used to be our family favorite. Came here many times in the past years and loved it. It seems the restaurant might have switched management. Quality of food and service have went downhill since. Ordered two orders of shrimp here, at least half of them were spoiled. The lady serving here had an unfriendly attitude as if she didn't want us to be here. Portion of the dishes have decrease to almost half of what it used to be. And some had become very bland. I read reviews saying that the dishes have been subpar as of late. I hadn't been myself, but $7 for a lunch special isn't bad, and I was craving greasy Chinese food so I ordered garlic pork. Well, greasy Chinese food I got - but it was delicious! The garlic pork with strings of tree ear mushroom is a great dish, and it came out piping hot. I would get it again. I wish they would give more rice for the takeout order, but the dish itself was sizable. My only qualms are about the hot and sour soup - it was neither hot nor sour, and the chunks of egg made me wonder whether it was repurposed egg-drop soup. I hope it actually comes out hot and sour the next time I try. Another question - I didn't eat there, but why is it so dark in the restaurant? Do you guys want to add any lighting? Update: ordered again - and hot & sour soup is still not hot or sour. And General Tso's chicken is like heavily fried and doughy sweet and sour chicken with peppers. Like quite a few other reviewers have mentioned, the quality of food here has gone down pretty dramatically. This used to be one of our favorite joints and we continued to frequent here after moving out of Katy. Our last visit had several issues: - Twice cooked pork with taro: previously our favorite dish. This time, the taro was burned to a crisp and nearly black. It's tough instead of soft and chewy like it used to be. Basically inedible and we ended up throwing it out. I'll try uploading a photo. Also, the meat was nearly 95% fat and 5% actual meat. I know this dish is supposed to be fatty but in general it's supposed to be 50% fat and 50% meat. After a few bites of the overly fat pork I couldn't eat any more. - Mapo tofu: still good, but I noticed there was no minced meat like it used to be in this dish. Sadly this was a to-go order so we didn't discover the issues until we got home, which was a 20 minute drive away so we weren't gonna go back to complain. I'm guessing the ownership has changed or they're trying to cut costs. Either way this place isn't what it used to be. :( read more

We started off with complimentary Chinese pancakes and pickled vegetables. The cabbage is similar to the Korean kimchi but not as spicy or fermented. It was light and refreshing. For and appetizer we had 2 orders of the fried vegetarian spring roll. Wow, they were fantastic. They are made fresh, not the frozen type. The owner suggested that we mix the sweet and sour sauce with spicy red pepper sauce, it was a hit. For the main course we had Mongolian beef, shrimp with mixed vegetables and mapo tofu. Everything was outstanding. The Mongolian beef was very tender. The shrimp were fresh and large. The sauces on both were tasty. While I'm not a huge fan of tofu, I do like trying new foods. My daughter always orders tofu dishes, so I have tried more than my fair share of tofu prepared different ways. While I still prefer the beef or chicken dishes, I have to say the flavor was great and it was one of the best tofu dishes that I have tried. Can't wait to go back! read more

I've been looking for good real chinese food around my area, which there are but more of a Americanized fusion chinese. So searched through yelp and had to try this place that seems to have very good review for authentic chinese food restaurant. The place is not very big but certainly does make you feel at ease, due to the way yey decorated the place. The moment I sat the lady talked to me in chinese thinking I was chinese :) but it's ok we both smiled and she made me feel comfortable and welcome. The place is new, opened 7 months ago. She said they wanted to serve real authentic chinese food. They also served me with a complementary pickled vegetables such as Kimchi, pickled cabbage and radish I think, which was nice and tasty too :) I ordered: * Chicken Lo Mein - flavored good, sauce was perfect * Sautéed string green beans - oh my I love their sautéed string green beans! Soo tasty, I normally don't eat onions that comes with it but since it was sautéed nicely and even the onions itself had really good flavor, I ate them! * Steamed pork dumpling - the lady told me upfront that it will take 15 minutes, I asked it for to-go instead. I thought I walked into an old beijing tea house from the 1900's when I first came to this place, carved wood tables, red lanterns, and vintage bird cage, etc. The low-key storefront reveals nothing of this hidden treasure. My husband and I ordered steamed spinach dumplings, bean jelly in chili sauce, ma po tofu, egg flower with tomato soup, and shrimp with fried rice, and we absolutely LOVED everything! I think this is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the Houston area, including Chinatown! It may seem like a fake, Americanized Chinese food place from the menu, but it's actually very authentic. There are a lot of off-the-menu items that aren't listed. If you're familiar with Chinese dishes, I think you can pretty much ask them to make any dish and they'll do it for you :). They definitely have a lot of veggies that aren't on the menu, like a-choy, water spinach, tong ho, etc. They gave us a complimentary appetizer of housemade pickled veggies that were actually really good! We ordered the seafood tofu soup, basil lamb, stir fried tong ho, and spinach dumplings, and everything was very fresh and clean tasting. The stir-fried dishes weren't drenched in oil like a lot of other Chinese places, so everything was light but still flavorful. The spinach dumplings were something I've never had before- plump and stuffed to the brim with just spinach! You'd think it'd be boring and bland, but it's actually really tasty, especially dipped in the vinegar sauce they serve with it. The dumpling wrapper was also made very well, nice and chewy (Q!) and not too thick. The service was also really nice :). It's a mom and pop place, so the owner was in the dining area the whole time when we went, chatting with the customers. The food came out pretty quickly and was carried out by whom I assume is the wife. As some pictures and other reviews show, the decorations are also very tasteful and traditional. The owner told us that all the furniture was shipped from Beijing! I was really impressed with the amount of thought the owner put into decorating the place and keeping it spotless. Plus, super cute plates and tea sets! Keep in mind that you have to call in advance for certain dishes like the roasted lamb and hot pot. I definitely want to come back again when I'm in the Katy area, maybe after a day of shopping at Katy Mills (which is super close)! :P read more

I do not like leaving bad reviews for restaurants, but this may be the worst Chinese food I've ever eaten. There was absolutely no flavor/seasoning to the food. I ordered egg drop soup, crab puffs, far Eastern, and lettuce wraps to go, since I live nearby. The warm filling for the lettuce wraps was served in the lettuce, which wilted and cooked the lettuce (not an appetizing texture) . The meats and veggies in the far Eastern pan fried noodles seemed fresh, but again, no flavor. The only thing that was decent were the crab puffs. Most likely I will be throwing away everything but the soup and crab puffs, which is such a waste of food and money. Very disappointed. Found this place thanks to Yelp! Wonderful, beautiful environment with comfortable furniture and amazing decor- it feels like you are visiting someone's home in China. Pleasant and personable owner William is a delight to speak with. We tried the Golden Gate Shrimp on his recommendation - now I crave it daily. Crisp crust over juicy shrimp, covered with a light creamy sauce and little drops of caviar. I may make a special trip to enjoy this appetizer again. The LoMein was a bit salty, but still delicious. We enjoyed the Eggplant with Garlic Sauce which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Fried rice was classic and good. I would like to return and put ourselves in William's hands. I tried our Beijing Ranch for the first time on a Sunday afternoon and was surprised to see that my wife and I were the only people in there for lunch at the time. It made for a nice quiet setting to enjoy the food and chat. They have a tv as well that adds some entertainment if conversation is lacking. We started with the crab puffs and ate those up pretty quickly. They're probably more cream cheese than anything else, but still a good choice. I was feeling like noodles so I went with the chicken lo mein for my entree, while my wife went healthy and opted for lettuce wraps. You certainly get a lot for your money and it's delicious as well. Everything came out super hot and fresh being that we were the only souls needing service at the time. Our server was also very quick about refills and checking in.
