    Assortment of dim sum

Get sum dim sum! This little hole in the wall dim sum restaurant is in the heart of Houston's Chinatown, located in the same complex as H-Mart. If you aren't looking for it, you'll definitely miss it as it's nestled right in the corner way behind 85 Bakery. But definitely look for it, because it's home to some of the easiest dim sum in Houston. My go to order usually consists of: - Chicken Feet: don't knock it until you try it! - Fried Taro: great flavor, never tastes like they use old oil - Siu Mai: you can never go wrong here, good sized pieces with plenty of meat - Har Gow: huge pieces of shrimp! - Cheung Fun: you can get beef, shrimp or plain - all are good! With great food, good prices and an extensive menu, it will surely satisfy your dim sum cravings any day!

This place is okay. I'd even say good but we tried many dishes and end up finding surprisingly little to say about them. It's a VERY authentic (for better or worse) dim sum restaurant that accomplishes what it does. Some of the highlights worth noting from out dinner include: - The cheung fun is thinner than usual, more akin to a Vietnamese bánh cuốn than cheung fun you'd find elsewhere. Whether you prefer this is up to you. - The chicken feet are very good! They are seasoned well, substantial, and have enough edible cartilage to make an actual meal and not just make you feel like gnawing on bones like a certain animal. - Durian puff is A++ if you like durians. The pastry part is fairly thin, not too sweet and the dish is mostly made up of real durian paste inside. It also has a nice pandan flavor. - On the other hand, the beef tripe is... not great. It felt old or perhaps simmered too long, where most of the fat rendered and became overwhelming while simultaneously softening the texture. The beef tripe felt very tough yet not crunchy like it usually is. - The gai lan is frankly overpriced (SP grade for a plate of greens? C'mon) and the oyster sauce that comes with it is WAAAAAAY too salty. All in all, a good place if you just want some dim sum lol.

So glad I found this spot for dim sum. It's a small restaurant so be prepare to wait. My husband is one of the pickiest eater when it comes to Asian food, but he mentioned this is our new dim sum spot. Everything dish came out really fresh and piping hot. We enjoyed every bit of it. The servers are really kind and very tentative.

Let me start out by saying we came here before going to H-mart which is next door, and was treated to a pleasant surprise. Simple yet delicious straightforward dim sum. The bean crud roll was great, but my guilty pleasure is the sweet milk bun,( pineapple bun), was awesome. Great start to our day.

Weekly visit to Chinatown Houston and I was feeling for some pot stickers. Dining in was not an option this trip which was a good thing because there was only one waitress for the whole restaurant. The order consisted of 6 pot stickers and they were huge! And I was worried that they wouldn't fill me up lol.

All day Dim Sum menu as of 11/10/2018

Lured by the "All day dim sum" sign, I defected from my original Arco Seafood plan and decided to give this place a try, and am so glad I did! This is now my go-to dim sum place. Please note that this review is specifically for the dim sum. First of all, I like how this place opens at 9am on Saturdays so I can enjoy a quiet and hearty breakfast. Plus when you go early everything is super fresh, not sold out, and you don't have to deal with crowds. There are a couple of standout dim sum menu items here that I recommend and are unique to this place. #77 Crispy Shrimp Chives & Chive Rice Roll was recommended by the waitress, and it's a delicious cheung fen wrapped with shrimp and chives and covered in a crispy panko breaded outer layer that's pan fried. The crispiness of the outside layer combined with the sauce and fresh cheung fen makes this one of my favorite dishes here. The other is #44 Baked Sweeten Milk Bun, which is the typical butter custard filling but with a pineapple crisp top (like the Chinese baked bread pineapple top). And yes, there are 3 kinds of shu mai to choose from, which makes me feel like these guys REALLY take their dim sum seriously. lol. #1 is the typical shu mai you usually see. #2 has the shrimp tail on top of the shu mai, and #3 has rice in it (hence the "pearl" in the name). Overall this place is clean and cheap without diluting quality. A solid choice for dim sum in Htown!

This place is a dim sum place, JUST a dim sum place, I would say. My family always comes here for delicious dim sum takeouts; the owner does dim sum the legit way. The Cantonese fried dumplings is a hit every Chinese New Year-Very yummy sweet treats! HOWEVER, this place is absolutely not a good idea for holiday meals. For the Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner, we ordered $700 worth of a dinner takeout, including a 7-lb King Crab 3 Ways, which however turned out to be a total disappointment and the worst mistake ever! Our pick-up time was 7 PM, but the last box of food did not come out until 8:45 PM. The foods just came out slowly one by one, and all were left on the counter, getting cold, while waiting for the order to be fully completed. I understand that it was the busiest time of the year on Chinese New Year's Eve and that they were short-staffed just like everywhere else, BUT STILL, an hour-and-45-minute delay would not be acceptable! When the foods finally got home, most of them were cold already, except for the fried rice with dried scallops that came out last from the kitchen. Food quality and tastes were way below par and not worth the price tag. The crispy fried chicken was not juicy and not crispy at all; it was just very dry and hard. The honey orange pork medallions were the chewiest ever, the stir-fried pea shoots was overcooked, and the steamed egg inside the king crab carapace got this coarse texture and tasted weird! The steamed fish, steamed king crab legs and fried crab knuckles were a-okay. The fried rice was so salty. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR we regretted big time! Never ever ever ever again, NO dinner meals here, especially during Chinese holidays!

I went here to get some dim sum. Food was okay. The egg tarts were fine and service was nice. Place looks old fashioned because of the setting.

Heard of this place a few times and was told they revamped their menu and includes all day dim sum. The inside is pretty small and there are no dim sum carts to be found but the service is quick and efficient. After checking off the dim sum items on the list, just give it to the server and piping hot food will appear shortly after. My group of four came for dim sum on a weekday and it was moderately busy but the food still came out in a very timely manner. We ordered: Pork+Shrimp Shumai - meaty and flavorful but texture is off Shanghai Mini Juicy Bun - skin too fragile and soup inside already leaking out before picking it up Crispy Spring Roll - very nicely fried and perfectly crunchy, packed inside Shrimp Wrap w/ Soy Skin Roll - good texture and fried just enough, not the soft bean curd skin though Fried Taro Dumpling - too chewy and tough skinned, but nicely filled insides Salted Fried Glutinous Rice Dumpling - good crisp exterior and chewy rice interior HK Style Fried Bread Rice Roll - steamed rice roll very smooth but fried bread a little overdone Beef Chow Fun - some wok char, could use some more beef and flavor Singapore Fried Rice Noodles - nicely seasoned and could taste the curry, good portion Overall a filling and mostly satisfying dim sum time with group. Would revisit again.

This place is tiny. This is such a hole in a wall. The servers are very impatient. They gave us a menu, the one where you can mark down how many items you want but they instructed us not to write on it. They were able to accommodate my big family which was nice. None of the food was good. Would not recommend. Very disappointed as I saw this recommended frequently on a Houston eats facebook page.

Solid affordable dim sum. Smaller place and very quiet on a Sunday evening. Everything was hot and fresh. Beef balls were perfectly cooked and the sesame balls were slightly larger than other places. Wasn't a huge fan of the beef Curry puffs but glad I tried those and the mala cake which was pretty good.

Now serving malatang 麻辣燙 and stir-fried pot 麻辣香鍋 on weekends. Lunch menu (middle board) during weekdays only. New item on the right.

This "Shanghai Restaurant" is operating as the 5th owner since I took notice a decade ago. Beware, there's nothing of Shanghainese here. It serves Sichuanese food. More detail is at the end of this review. After a long break from my displeasures and dark dining experiences, I deciced to check on the updated biz. I was here few months ago after seeing huge colorful posters on the windows (bring your Google Translator app). They mainly serve 2 dishes Malatang 麻辣烫, stir-fried hot pot 麻辣香锅 and family size hot pot 羊蝎子 or 焖锅. Since I had Malatang at 75 Yummy Kitchen and I wanted to try theirs. I picked the items from a buffet line, weighed and sent to the kitchen for production. I was looking for soup, but, I got a dry pot. I was little ticked off. But okay. Let me try this. Same method of cooking, just no soup. Very flavorful, but it costs extra to include shrimps. The presentation was highlighted by small amount in the middle of this huge bowl. I'll be back to try other dishes, only if they retain current operating principles - customer satisfaction. A few times I came here to see people napping at the table while TV was on and lights off. It's disappointing to see too many businesses in Chinatown refused to change the names after took over the businesses and ended up getting mixed signals. It's not a good idea to save money, because it will cost more to fix reviews at wrong page. Not just on Yelp or Google, but other review sites. You know how many times I've tried to have this page updated with correct name? Too many. The owner doesn't know how important it is to have correct name. In Chinese, it's called Tong Fu 同福 and it's popular for delivering bentos.

On my most recent visit we ordered mapo tofu with pork intestines off the specials menu - a hybrid of two of my favorite Sichuan-style dishes. The blend of bouncy, savory morsels amidst tender, saucy tofu was at once revolutionary and so obvious; why hadn't I yet seen this at any other restaurant? And sure, innards may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's important for you to know that none of my past orders from the 50+ item menu have ever failed me, whether enjoyed in the restaurant or at home. Maybe you'd prefer the aromatic, classic, perfectly balanced three-cup chicken? Or the sweet-skinned duck, glazed so delicately that specks of sugar crystal threaten to jump off onto the plate as you pick up a juicy slice with your chopsticks? And if you're vegetarian, might you consider the punchy garlic eggplant or the wok-kissed string beans? I could go on. Do yourself a favor and come see for yourself, though I'd recommend parallel parking on the neighborhood streets behind the restaurant rather than the rocky parking lot, to save you some trouble. Bring friends and chow down family style - you'll need help covering as much of the menu as you can, but you'll definitely have to come back to try everything.

Each order comes with an appetizer-sized plate of roasted pork belly. The crunch on the skin was phenomenal, like a dense and crispy chip. Imagine if they made snacks out of crispy pork skin. The ratio of fat and lean pork meat was perfect, so juicy and rich, yet soft and tender. The roast pork is phenomenal. We loved it. D1. 燒鴨 ROAST DUCK The roast duck skin was flavorful and juicy, complemented by the tender duck that was fresh. The soy sauce-based marinade was delicious, and this is a classic Cantonese BBQ option that you cannot go wrong with. K15. 港式咕噜肉 SWEET & SOUR PORK HONG KONG STYLE This isn't my favorite dish, but the pork was crispy and held a lot of the sweet and sour sauce. I enjoyed it, but it pales in comparison to the others. Still, another safe Cantonese classic that I would recommend. P6. 鞋菌豆腐煲 TO-FU W. MIXED MUSHROOM IN CLAY POT They served it to us in a glass plate, but it was still delicious. Arguably, I think this was my favorite out of all the dishes because of how simple it is, and it's full of mushrooms and vegetables! There was a strong "wok hay" flavor, and the fried egg tofu were hot (it burned the roof of my mouth, but I did not care), soft, and incredibly jiggly. I loved the mushrooms and vegetables which was braised with the sauce. Big yum all around, this one hit home and one of my go-tos. F2. 菜炒牛肉炒河 SAUTEED FLAT RICE NOODLE W. BEEF & VEGETABLE Not a single vegetable in sight, unless you count the green onions and bean sprouts. This is probably one of the most well-known Cantonese classics with its strong "wok hay" flavor. The rice noodles had the perfect texture and there was a generous amount of beef stir-fried in. While it's many people's favorites, it's always a bit too oily that I would like (and that oil is almost necessary for good flavor). I recommend it if you want a safe staple, but I would encourage trying something else. We basically ordered the Cantonese classics and it was so delicious and more than what the 5 of us could finish. I highly recommend this restaurant for Cantonese food. The interior is your typical mom-and-pop restaurant, 80's/90's-style decor. It's not fancy, but the food is exceptional.

Service was relatively fast, though the restaurant on this Friday night in particular was not crowded relative to what it usually is. I would recommend for weekends to make sure a table is reserved and try not to go during main eating hours since the parking lot is usually very full. My family ordered lots of dishes, but my personal favorites of the many we ordered were the Peking Duck (10/10 every time, must try whenever you come here) and the lightly battered jalapeño grouper (incredibly clean and easy to eat, balances with the much heavier items). These two dishes really stood out in the selection we had and are good every time we have been here. There were a few of the dishes that I thought weren't the greatest. Firstly, the lobster we had ordered was a tough and very fishy, making it hard to eat (I would likely order it in the sauce and with noodles, rather than the drier version). The pork belly was a little too heavy on the fat/meat ratio and left a very oily taste in my mouth. The jasmine tea, which I usually use to wash everything down, was kind of diluted and tasted like sink water. These dishes were not the norm for this restaurant's quality, but with so many different options, there were bound to be weaker points in the menu. I'm always excited to eat at Fung's Kitchen, and with some amazing options, it provides a very elevated selection of foods that always impress me. While there's definitely weaknesses in some of their dishes for me, this place is definitely worth a visit!

It was four of us so we ordered: Hot & Sour Soup, Beef with Bitter Mellon, Beef Flat Rice Noodle (dry), Cantonese Sweet & Sour Pork (with pineapple) I was impressed how silky and tender the beef was. The sweet & sour was perfect lightly battered and crispy. The hot & sour could've been a bit more sour but had a small kick to it. It was perfect for my parents, but my husband and I had to add some chili oil & soy sauce for more flavor. The quality of the food 9/10, the price was a bit on the pricey side for the portions of the dishes. The hot & sour soup was $17! It wasn't anything special about it. I thought it was a bit steep for a family size, but I guess good service made up for it. I'm not sure if they were offering Chinese New Year specials, but within an hour there were several big parties with reservations. I recommend this place for authentic Cantonese Chinese food. It's rare to find good food and good service!

BEEF BRISKET NOODLE ROLLS! Forget everything else. Lol. We came here on a Saturday afternoon, and…read moreit was quite busy. The wait wasn't too bad though; we were seated in 10 minutes. The food: Beef brisket noodle rolls- A must! The brisket is tender, and the rice rolls are a perfect texture. Popcorn chicken- Crispy and served piping hot! It could use more fried basil, but that's just me. Eel & roasted pork combo- Perfect "surf n turf" combo served with a good portion of rice, egg, and baby bok choy. Spareribs w/black bean sauce- Average. I couldn't really taste the black bean flavor. Also served with rice, egg, and baby bok choy. If you are in the mood for Cantonese food, this is the place! Service is efficient and speedy. Prices are reasonable, and they are conveniently located in the Hmart shopping plaza on Bellaire Blvd. The vibe is casual, but not a place I would linger too long for conversation since it's somewhat loud when it's a full house.

It felt very authentic. The service was fine and the quickly took my food order. It does take some time to come out, so I believe they cook everything fresh. The food came out scorching hot. Everything we ordered was HOT. My rice bowl came with ginseng soup. The soup was ok. It tasted good and slightly bitter (which I didn't mind), but what was off-putting was the meat inside. It was cut up, black skin, and hard to eat as it had lots of bones. The soup was also too hot to eat. I really enjoyed the chicken wings. It had a nice flavor but again, SCORCHING HOT.
