King is a self serve dim sum restaurant. There is self serve hot tea and water in the left-hand corner. There was a lot of seating when we went. Inside is a bit small for multiple large groups, however. The portions were large, and we had enough food leftover for the next two days. The hargow and lotus leaf wrapped rice were our favorites. The hargow itself was larger than other hargows in Housto, and the skin was soft and bouncy. One order of the lotus rice came with three, and the rice was moist and chewy. I also really like the friend bean curd with shrimp, which was super crispy. Everything else was pretty fresh and were huge. They were missing a few of our other dim sum essentials such as the turnip cake but other than that, we really enjoyed the large portions and freshness of the dishes!

My experience at Dim Sum King was decent. The food was good, the service was pleasant & welcoming & the decor is modern. My friend and I dined in on a Saturday after lunch & it wasn't busy at all so we received our food in a timely manner. The ordering system is simple, they hand you a sheet a paper & you checkmark the items you want. Once you're done you pay it at the front counter. Here is the item we've ordered. * Steam custard cream bun- custard was smooth and silky. 4/5 * Steam shrimp dumplings- good 4/5 * Steam shrimp rice noodles- decent 3.5/5 * Sticky rice meat wrap- probably my least favorite. It didn't taste fresh. It was like it was re-steamed a couple of times. The meat was bland. 2/5 * Fried crab claw shrimp- it's an item I always order when I eat dim sum. It came out fresh and piping hot. The batter was crispy and the inside was filling. 4/5 * Curry fish ball- simple but good. The curry sauce could've been stronger. 3/5 * Fish ball noodles- I ordered this to go. This is a simple dish that there's no way you can mess it up. I enjoyed it but they could've added some more bok choy. 3/5 Overall I was satisfied. This location is more on the express side. They offer lesser items but more than enough to choose from. If you want the full menu then go to their original location a couple of streets down. Will I come back? Yes.

Overall good experience! Service was friendly, restaurant and bathroom were clean, food made fresh to order. I liked the self service station for tea, soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, and to go containers. Food was good but not the best dim sum I've had. Pan fried pork dumplings were meaty, juicy, and flavorful. I was disappointed that the beef tendon noodle soup was actually beef tripe soup. They said that menu board and menu are incorrect. Chicken feet were a bit too sweet for me. Custard bun was good but I've had better. Wrappers for dumplings were definitely handmade but a little too thick for me. Would we return? Maybe...but there's so much competition out there, I'd probably want to try somewhere new.

I came to Dim Sum King Express for a small gathering. We ordered just about everything on the menu, which was smaller than the original Dim Sum King. I think it opened in November 2024. But the sign has been on the building since summer. The service style is a fast-food restaurant, just order from the counter and food brought to the tables. In my opinion, the dim sum at Dim Sum King is the best in Houston Chinatown. The food is always made fresh and service is always good. The parking is a little tricky at this location on weekends. I normally park at Sterling Plaza and walk over here. I also tried Hong Kong snacks, such as noodle soup and rice plates. The prices are very reasonable and portions were smaller. So, I could eat a couple of dim sum dishes. Because they don't take reservation, you have to wait for an open seat.

Dim Sum King opens a second location in the Bellaire Chinatown Center, however this is definitely an express version of the original location due to them not offering the complete menu. When you enter, you're greeted by bright lights and spacious clean tables. You can seat yourself where you'd like. You fill out their order form and pay at the cashier. There's a $15 minimum when paying with card. The food came out fairly quickly. Ordered the crab king shiu mai, steamed shrimp dumpling, and the steamed beef rice noodle. They all came out hot, flavorful, and just what I expected for typical dim sum. There's a self-serve station that has hot tea, water, utensils, condiments, take out boxes, and plastic bags. Will definitely have to come back and try more of their other dishes. Wished they had their complete menu. I also think the card minimum should be $10, but that's just my opinion as someone who may not want to order a lot of food. Parking is not really an issue, unless it's peak times. It can get pretty full with the other businesses in the same plaza.

I think I came during grand opening so I had some expectations, but everything was so mid. The best thing there was the custard bun. The service was very nice though. The vibe of the place is very nice and bright.

My uncle and I tried a relatively new place in Chinatown called DimSumKing express. They have a main location but opened up this satellite location down the road. You order on a piece of paper and then self serve your water, plates, and sauces. We got the steamed shrimp dumpling and shiu mai, chicken feet, pan fried pork dumpling, steam shrimp rice roll, and soya sauce beef flat noodle. The classic shrimp and pork dumplings were pretty solid, I especially liked the shiu mai. The chicken feet had a good taste as well but didn't have too much meat. U really liked the pan fried pork dumplings. The steam shrimp rice rolls were decent, they were really small. The beef flat noodle had a bland flavor but I didn't care I will always eat dishes like this. Decently good for a fast casual dim sum place

Yum!

Love the shrimp balls!! Very good flavor and size! Rather order at the counter than deal with the NASTY ladies at other dim sum places down the street that will remain nameless (about 1 mile west across beltway 8 on Bellaire) Will be back!

Self serve: Hot and cold water and hot tea, dumpling sauce, and napkins. Calvin is very hospitable and welcoming. His attention to detail is wonderful! The reason we ended up here is a great story! San Dong dumplings were closed on a Monday. I needed Dumplings for my friend! I look over in the parking lot and see Dim Sum King. I have heard of them... I know they are different... so let's give a try! The seating is aesthetically pleasing. There's enough space to have a large gathering and enough space to have your individuality. The wood furniture gives everything a warm feel with the caramel leather seats. The red and the white walls pop. I got pan fried pork dumplings to go. :)

The food was okay, but the service really ruined the experience. The staff was rude and disrespectful. I will never comeback .

I apologize for the pictures! Was too excited to dig in that we forgot to take pictures first!!…read more I have been here a handful of times and every time it has been soooo gooood! The interior of this restaurant is really nice, and the service is great. Perfect for a lunch date. Mandatory must haves: any xiao long bao (soup dumpling), nutella xiao long bao, and the pork crispy bottom bao!!! Appetizer: Pork xiao long bao - 10/10 Pork crispy bottom bao - 10/10 Red oil dumplings- 7.5/10 Garlic cucumber - 9/10 Entrees: Fish drizzled with Szechuan sauce - 10/10! I was skeptical about this one but turned out to be one of my favorites Pepper pepper steak cube - i opt out for the peppercorn 10/10 Whiskey shrimp on fire - they set it on fire at your table! the dish itself is really delicious 10/10 Dessert: Nutella xiao long bao - these are delicious but only if you like chocolate bananas! I really wanted to like Wanna Bao because the presentation of the food was beautiful, but overall,…read morethe taste just did not live up to the visuals for me. We came with a group of 18 people, and the bill ended up being around $972. Unfortunately, most of the dishes were more impressive visually than flavor-wise. The colorful green fried rice looked unique, but honestly just tasted like regular fried rice. The green beans were overcooked, so they lost the crunch and sweetness that usually make that dish enjoyable. The green curry was extremely spicy, but outside of the heat, it wasn't very memorable. The shaking beef dish looked amazing presentation-wise, but the sauce was too sweet for a savory dish, and the crispy rice pairing just didn't work well for me. I initially thought the duck dish was Peking duck, but it was actually the Jasmine Tea Smoked Duck. Even so, everyone at my table agreed we still preferred the traditional Peking duck style. The duck itself lacked flavor for us, and the skin was soft instead of having the crisp texture we were hoping for. The only dishes I genuinely enjoyed were the soup dumplings, cucumber salad, and fried dumplings. Most of the other dishes at the table were barely touched. If you're looking for colorful, aesthetically pleasing food and great presentation, you may enjoy this place. But if flavor is your main priority, this spot just wasn't for me personally.

I'm glad I did not read the reviews from my trusted sources and Yelp friends before I went,…read moreotherwise, I might not have gone. But for me, this was some of the better dim sum I've had recently. Yes, you're in a grocery store lobby, so to speak, and yes, there's not much atmosphere other than the people streaming by going into that grocery store, but the three items I ordered (black bean ribs, har gow, shu mai) were all solid. I'll be back.

There was a time that Joy Dim Sum was a go-to spot for the Sugar Land dim sum scene. What it lacked…read morefrom the larger, traditional banquet hall vibe, it made up for in lack of pretension and lots of focus on the quality of the food and service. Sadly, it seems like those days are long gone as the latter is on a downhill slope. Has ownership changed? (#1) I'm not sure, but so much else has. There's no tea offered, but bottled water. Service and the kitchen staff is a mess where it's most evident during their busiest hours. At one point, Cantonese was spoken but it also seems that's no longer the case. Previously the food was passable, but now it's near abysmal. Siu mai was hearty, but fairly bland. The same applies to their spare ribs (排骨), beef balls (牛肉球), and steamed glutinous rice in leaf (糯米雞). I felt their custard buns (奶黃包), fried stuffed crab claw (釀蟹鉗), fried glutinous dumpling (鹹水角) and the turnip cake (蘿蔔糕) were dried out. While the shrimp dumplings (蝦餃) and rice rolls (腸粉) mostly passed the test, it needed lots of soy sauce + condiments to be worth it. The only winner was their beef chow fun (乾炒牛河), where the beef and ho fun noodles were tender, while also being adequately greasy. The bonus bits of fried egg within were a nice surprise. While the prices range from $3.75-$9.70, a majority of it will average out to be $5-6 a dish. This isn't a terrible deal per se, especially during these times. However, it is a big price to pay for service issues and sub-par quality dim sum. While I'm hopeful that they'll rebound and I hope the Joy returns, but I don't think I will. __________ (#1) FZ / FJ peeps, where ya at?

Don't be fooled by its English name, you will not be eating Shanghainese food here: this is a traditional Cantonese restaurant. In typical Chinese American fashion, we had the "adult" table and of course we sat at the "kids" table. We ordered the classics as pictured. The food is always tasty and consistent. Service is friendly and the even though this spot is no frills, it is a familiar place with a very family-centered atmosphere. You can not go wrong with old reliable. If you are ever craving authentic, traditional Cantonese cooking without the large, dim sum hybrid model, I definitely recommend this place. We had eaten here years ago before the whole shopping center was remodeled. We arrived around 5:00 PM for dinner and were seated quickly. The food came out fairly quickly and was flavorful. It was four of us so we ordered: Hot & Sour Soup, Beef with Bitter Mellon, Beef Flat Rice Noodle (dry), Cantonese Sweet & Sour Pork (with pineapple) I was impressed how silky and tender the beef was. The sweet & sour was perfect lightly battered and crispy. The hot & sour could've been a bit more sour but had a small kick to it. It was perfect for my parents, but my husband and I had to add some chili oil & soy sauce for more flavor. The quality of the food 9/10, the price was a bit on the pricey side for the portions of the dishes. The hot & sour soup was $17! It wasn't anything special about it. I thought it was a bit steep for a family size, but I guess good service made up for it. I'm not sure if they were offering Chinese New Year specials, but within an hour there were several big parties with reservations. I recommend this place for authentic Cantonese Chinese food. It's rare to find good food and good service!
