Hidden in the corner of Metropole Center and next to JusGo Supermarket is Lucky Dragon, one of the lesser known Cantonese seafood establishments in Chinatown. The Chinese name ("龍圖飯店") is more along the lines of "Dragon Diagram / Map" which seems somewhat ironic, consider they've been off the map and radar for many diners seeking Chinese fare in this part of town. It's been practically empty each time I've been here. I've dined in a lonely group of eaters, gotten taken out and it's never busy. The staff is largely Cantonese speaking as well, save for some heavily accented Mandarin and a struggle with English. I sense most folks who have been put off by the service is related to the latter. It's not exactly a large restaurant, but I doubt it'd be a problem to eat here with a large group on any given week night. They specialize in Cantonese cuisine with an emphasis on seafood. The food can be a hit or miss. A lot of the non-seafood items (peking pork chop, lo mein noodles, beef claypot, string beans, and fried rice) have been subpar at best, but where they really shine is with their seafood options. (#1) Their salty fish meat cake (鹹魚肉餅) is very salty but tasty, the ginger scallion lobster (蔥薑龍蝦), and fried fish filets (炸魚片) were excellent. I wasn't really feeling the shrimp and egg (蝦仁炒蛋) or salt and pepper squid (椒鹽魷魚) but they were eons better than the non-seafood. I've heard very good things about their crab dishes, especially the special order crab roe rice and dungeness crab preparation. I believe one has to call ahead of time, but I can't wait to do it. I think the prices are solid and I do hope they receive more business. Having flown under the radar for so long means they're doing something right, but I hope they manage to earn more kudos for better service and tighten up the non-seafood dishes for better overall execution. I'll certainly be back. ___________ (#1) Case in point: They have a small water tank with lobsters, crabs, and the occasional fish.

Great food, friendly service (a little bit slow, since it was peak hour, so it's okay), simple decorations and a typical old-fashioned Chinatown vibe. We get there 7pm and there were already several tabes of people. They are famous for their freshly stir fried lobster, and I did notice that all the tables of people ordered it. The pork short ribs was breaded and then fried, and was crispy outside and soft inside. Very new and interesting flavor for me. Rice was automatically added. Garlic veggies was great in taste too, although bit oily. Same as the stir fried rice noodles-- very oily. But I guess this is how it is traditionally made. So a great meal. It's not a fancy place but great for neighborhood food.

Very disappointing!! Checked in recently and the service got terrible. I arrived ahead of my party and had to stand awkwardly at the door for an uncomfortably long time while the boss lady and the only other waitress stayed sitting, looking down at the counter. When I finally got seated and my party arrived, the boss lady laughed at us when we said we didn't want to order the chicken soup for $80 and the King Crab for $36 per lb. We ordered the seafood tofu soup and her response was, "Yeah, that IS cheaper." Throughout the dinner, if we asked her for anything while the other waitress was busy, she would nod first and then completely 'forget' about it. We ordered a Fuzhou fried rice, the same two pork and lobster dishes, as last time with the addition of a soup and the replacement of a beef with eggplant dish for a total of $90 before tips. (Maybe because of the boss lady's prejudice, she never brought our Fuzhou fried rice out to us...which we didn't realize until the next day.) Price-wise, the food was still pretty good. However, these four items took over an hour to arrive because the (lone boss) chef liked to service each table in the order of arrival (so the rest of us all watched as only one table got to eat...). We would definitely NOT be coming back again--just purely on the poor service we received.

It is located right next to Jusgo, an unassuming Cantonese restaurant. We came here with few other Cantonese friends, they all agreed the taste is very authentic. Dishes we recommend ordering: lobster, Pipa Tofu (combination of fish and tofu, very unique), clay pot eggplant with pork. Price is affordable, flavor is okay, definitely on the plain side. The restaurant is small and dark, doesn't have the best atmosphere, but you come here for the food.

This is a typical Chinese family restaurant, not your Americanized Chinese food. The restaurant is on the smaller side with less than ten tables. My friends and I went pretty late after typical dinner hours. When we arrived, only one table was occupied. My friend let me ordered the food. The portion was decent and my friends praised about the tastiness of the food. As for me, it was decent. If you want to try some authentic Chinese food, check it out. If you want Americanized Chinese food, this is not your place.

This is exactly average for a Chinese restaurant in Houston. There are definitely better places to go. We ordered Hong sao fish, beef and tendon claypot, duck, fried tofu with minced meat, sweet and sour pork and a mixed vegetable dish. Everything was just alright. All of the meats, especially the tendon could have been much more tender. The hong sao fish was good but it didn't have as much flavor as I had wanted. The fried tofu was a big hit at our table although not really with me. It tasted a lot like fried bread to me. The sweet and sour pork was good, just a little tough. Not only was the food mediocre but the service was extremely slow. It's a small establishment but it seemed like there was only one waitress. She was nice, but overworked.

Have been coming here for lunch and 1st time doing dine-in dinner. The black pepper beef short ribs with eggplants was good in flavor but those ribs were too chew. We informed our server that those were overcooked and can't even chew them. You need a knife to cut them inside tiny pieces to possibly eat them. I tried a small bite and still too hard. But good flavor amd I love eggplants! Chicken dish was average, nothing special. I like empress chicken and this wasn't the same. Bean leaves were good! Big portions, reasonable prices and plenty of parking spaces.

FIVE star well deserved!!!! The lunch special is so cheap, around $6-7 per dish and the restaurant is very clean. Service is speedy and the menu has a wide selection. I ordered 3 dishes for less than $20 and that was enough for 3 additional meals!! I will definitely be coming back. Happy hour is from 11-3 so definitely take advantage of these good deals and try out lucky dragon!! I ordered basil fish, Sichuan shrimp, and Hong shau tofu. All the dishes were seasoned perfectly, not overly salty, great portion, and just so delicious and worth the deal.

I am updating my review to say the ambiance has greatly improved and the food is great, no issues with the food at all there is one thing I want to warn everyone about and that is how the menus are handled. They still use old school menus. You will find them on your table when you sit down. After you order they take it throw it in a pile and then put it on the table for the next person who comes in. They are never wiped down or sanitized. It is safe to say dozens of people touch these per day and now you will also and hopefully you sanitize your hands after touching it cuz it's nasty.

Came here on a Saturday for lunch, which would normally be an extremely busy time for a restaurant in Chinatown. The restaurant was empty when we got there! Chinatown restaurants and businesses have been struggling lately, so if you're looking for a place to eat out or even get take-away, support Chinatown restaurants! Food: I am vegetarian, and surprisingly they were able to accommodate and make lots of veggie dishes!! We got the mapo tofu, Singapore curry noodles, eggplant fried tofu pot, and green beans. The portions were huge for the price! I loved every single dish, but my favorite had to be the eggplant and tofu dish. The sauce, flavors, textures came together so well! Also the prices were amazing!! I would absolutely recommend coming here for authentic Chinese food, especially if you are looking for a vegetarian-friendly place. Also apparently BOYB for dinner!! 10/10 will be back

This is my go to place for Chinese food that reminds me of what I grew up eating. The food, thin plastic tablecloths, live lobsters, and kind-hearted aunties. My absolute favorite things to get here are the fish hot pot and the pea shoots when in season.

On my most recent visit we ordered mapo tofu with pork intestines off the specials menu - a hybrid of two of my favorite Sichuan-style dishes. The blend of bouncy, savory morsels amidst tender, saucy tofu was at once revolutionary and so obvious; why hadn't I yet seen this at any other restaurant? And sure, innards may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's important for you to know that none of my past orders from the 50+ item menu have ever failed me, whether enjoyed in the restaurant or at home. Maybe you'd prefer the aromatic, classic, perfectly balanced three-cup chicken? Or the sweet-skinned duck, glazed so delicately that specks of sugar crystal threaten to jump off onto the plate as you pick up a juicy slice with your chopsticks? And if you're vegetarian, might you consider the punchy garlic eggplant or the wok-kissed string beans? I could go on. Do yourself a favor and come see for yourself, though I'd recommend parallel parking on the neighborhood streets behind the restaurant rather than the rocky parking lot, to save you some trouble. Bring friends and chow down family style - you'll need help covering as much of the menu as you can, but you'll definitely have to come back to try everything.

Each order comes with an appetizer-sized plate of roasted pork belly. The crunch on the skin was phenomenal, like a dense and crispy chip. Imagine if they made snacks out of crispy pork skin. The ratio of fat and lean pork meat was perfect, so juicy and rich, yet soft and tender. The roast pork is phenomenal. We loved it. D1. 燒鴨 ROAST DUCK The roast duck skin was flavorful and juicy, complemented by the tender duck that was fresh. The soy sauce-based marinade was delicious, and this is a classic Cantonese BBQ option that you cannot go wrong with. K15. 港式咕噜肉 SWEET & SOUR PORK HONG KONG STYLE This isn't my favorite dish, but the pork was crispy and held a lot of the sweet and sour sauce. I enjoyed it, but it pales in comparison to the others. Still, another safe Cantonese classic that I would recommend. P6. 鞋菌豆腐煲 TO-FU W. MIXED MUSHROOM IN CLAY POT They served it to us in a glass plate, but it was still delicious. Arguably, I think this was my favorite out of all the dishes because of how simple it is, and it's full of mushrooms and vegetables! There was a strong "wok hay" flavor, and the fried egg tofu were hot (it burned the roof of my mouth, but I did not care), soft, and incredibly jiggly. I loved the mushrooms and vegetables which was braised with the sauce. Big yum all around, this one hit home and one of my go-tos. F2. 菜炒牛肉炒河 SAUTEED FLAT RICE NOODLE W. BEEF & VEGETABLE Not a single vegetable in sight, unless you count the green onions and bean sprouts. This is probably one of the most well-known Cantonese classics with its strong "wok hay" flavor. The rice noodles had the perfect texture and there was a generous amount of beef stir-fried in. While it's many people's favorites, it's always a bit too oily that I would like (and that oil is almost necessary for good flavor). I recommend it if you want a safe staple, but I would encourage trying something else. We basically ordered the Cantonese classics and it was so delicious and more than what the 5 of us could finish. I highly recommend this restaurant for Cantonese food. The interior is your typical mom-and-pop restaurant, 80's/90's-style decor. It's not fancy, but the food is exceptional.

Service was relatively fast, though the restaurant on this Friday night in particular was not crowded relative to what it usually is. I would recommend for weekends to make sure a table is reserved and try not to go during main eating hours since the parking lot is usually very full. My family ordered lots of dishes, but my personal favorites of the many we ordered were the Peking Duck (10/10 every time, must try whenever you come here) and the lightly battered jalapeño grouper (incredibly clean and easy to eat, balances with the much heavier items). These two dishes really stood out in the selection we had and are good every time we have been here. There were a few of the dishes that I thought weren't the greatest. Firstly, the lobster we had ordered was a tough and very fishy, making it hard to eat (I would likely order it in the sauce and with noodles, rather than the drier version). The pork belly was a little too heavy on the fat/meat ratio and left a very oily taste in my mouth. The jasmine tea, which I usually use to wash everything down, was kind of diluted and tasted like sink water. These dishes were not the norm for this restaurant's quality, but with so many different options, there were bound to be weaker points in the menu. I'm always excited to eat at Fung's Kitchen, and with some amazing options, it provides a very elevated selection of foods that always impress me. While there's definitely weaknesses in some of their dishes for me, this place is definitely worth a visit!

We had eaten here years ago before the whole shopping center was remodeled. We arrived around 5:00 PM for dinner and were seated quickly. The food came out fairly quickly and was flavorful. It was four of us so we ordered: Hot & Sour Soup, Beef with Bitter Mellon, Beef Flat Rice Noodle (dry), Cantonese Sweet & Sour Pork (with pineapple) I was impressed how silky and tender the beef was. The sweet & sour was perfect lightly battered and crispy. The hot & sour could've been a bit more sour but had a small kick to it. It was perfect for my parents, but my husband and I had to add some chili oil & soy sauce for more flavor. The quality of the food 9/10, the price was a bit on the pricey side for the portions of the dishes. The hot & sour soup was $17! It wasn't anything special about it. I thought it was a bit steep for a family size, but I guess good service made up for it. I'm not sure if they were offering Chinese New Year specials, but within an hour there were several big parties with reservations. I recommend this place for authentic Cantonese Chinese food. It's rare to find good food and good service!

BEEF BRISKET NOODLE ROLLS! Forget everything else. Lol. We came here on a Saturday afternoon, and…read moreit was quite busy. The wait wasn't too bad though; we were seated in 10 minutes. The food: Beef brisket noodle rolls- A must! The brisket is tender, and the rice rolls are a perfect texture. Popcorn chicken- Crispy and served piping hot! It could use more fried basil, but that's just me. Eel & roasted pork combo- Perfect "surf n turf" combo served with a good portion of rice, egg, and baby bok choy. Spareribs w/black bean sauce- Average. I couldn't really taste the black bean flavor. Also served with rice, egg, and baby bok choy. If you are in the mood for Cantonese food, this is the place! Service is efficient and speedy. Prices are reasonable, and they are conveniently located in the Hmart shopping plaza on Bellaire Blvd. The vibe is casual, but not a place I would linger too long for conversation since it's somewhat loud when it's a full house.

It felt very authentic. The service was fine and the quickly took my food order. It does take some time to come out, so I believe they cook everything fresh. The food came out scorching hot. Everything we ordered was HOT. My rice bowl came with ginseng soup. The soup was ok. It tasted good and slightly bitter (which I didn't mind), but what was off-putting was the meat inside. It was cut up, black skin, and hard to eat as it had lots of bones. The soup was also too hot to eat. I really enjoyed the chicken wings. It had a nice flavor but again, SCORCHING HOT.
