When they mess up an order, the customer service goes from disappointing to downright unacceptable. Instead of fixing their mistake, you get met with rude phone etiquette, zero accountability, and absolutely no effort to make things right. It's honestly ridiculous that a simple correction turns into a whole ordeal leaving the meal with a distasteful taste. I have eaten here several times and always ordered the same thing, Kung pao chicken and each time it was pretty good. Went back today after a few months and right as you walk in the place smells horrible. Like the sewage is backed up, blah. My food was way too sweet. Ugh, so disappointed. Spicy Chen is so surprisingly good. Lo Mein was rich with flavor. This was the star of our Sunday dinner show. The fried rice was pretty good, as were the egg rolls. This is a review for dining in at the restaurant. The food is still good and the service is nice. I was pleasantly surprised by the decor of the Chinese restaurant. It is a bit nicer than the mom and pop places around the area. It has a nice vibe for a date night or just dinner with the family. The dinner portions are a good size. I preferred the hunan chicken over the general tso chicken. The general tsos flavor was good but more breading than I personally like. I liked their hot and sour soup too! This is the best Chinese I've had since moving to TX. My family of 4 all enjoy eating here. They are fast and the food is always fresh. Found the 4 stars on Yelp to be a bold faced lie! For my first order ever last night i got some orange chicken, wonton and hot and sour soup, chicken lo mein, egg rolls and wings. Disappointing is the nicest word i can use. The orange chicken might as well have been from last week it was so tough with wilted (almost disintegrating) broccoli. The rest of the food was the same quality and ALL of it lacked flavor. Needless to say, the fried eggroll was the most mid but best thing I was able to choke down. I ordered fried flounder (first time) and shrimp fried rice to go. Once I got home, I discovered that it wasn't flounder; It was Swai catfish. I made a point to tell the individual taking my order that I do not like Vietnamese catfish so I don't believe this was a mistake. We were hungry after our workout today and we decided that we wanted to try out this place, we always shop at the HEB next door to this restaurant so we decided on Chinese food. Their lunch menu was extensive with many options to choose from, they had chicken, beef, shrimp, pork and vegan lunch specials. Nice thing is they actually serve lunch specials even on a Saturday from 11-4pm Monday through Saturday!! Lunch special is served with your choice of soup ( hot sour soup, wonton or egg drop) rice (brown, white or fried) and main dish. Price ranged from $10 - 12.00 Which is very reasonable. The service was excellent and the ambiance and atmosphere was absolutely beautiful. Very Asian influenced and stunning surroundings. I wish I could rate 0 stars for this experience. I've been a loyal customer there, loved supporting a local business. But my recent experience here has left a bad taste in my mouth, and heart. I Placed an order over the phone, and they forgot my Lo mein. I called with my concern, in hope that they would fix their mistake but instead they were rude about THEM forgetting a part of my order. We thought they accepted their mistake on the first call about our concern, but oh was I wrong.. I then get a phone call 20 minutes later after we were done eating, they called me demanding a picture of what I received. They were saying we lied about not receiving my Lo mein that I GLADLY paid for and kept accusing me and my family of not receiving said Lo mein. They mentioned on the call that they were going to check OUR bags twice each time we go.. like what? That policy should be implemented for every customers order regardless of the situation. It's called standard operation of procedure. What kind of business calls a customer back to accuse them of lying when we just wanted to enjoy our evening dinner.. I was disappointed at Spicy Chen Asian Bistro last week. This was after I set aside our differences and challenges during Covid-19 pandemic. I was here in November last year. It was cold and I really wanted some soup. But the restaurant had a sign saying dining room closed. Ok. Fine. I just have to come back when weather is better. So I can sit in my car or somewhere to enjoy the outdoors. I came back in January on a sunny day. It was windy but still nice. I wouldn't mind to eating in my car. So, I ordered Taiwanese Rice Noodles. It is not soup because they don't have noodle soup to my liking. The menu is completely written in English. Only 川味 (sichuan flavor) written in Chinese next to restaurant name. Only space was where cashier was standing. A sign said no photography behind the counter. Cashier was polite. I asked about what kind of fish in the fish soup. She asked an Asian man came from the kitchen. He said, "white fish." I have never heard of white fish before. Is the fish flesh white or fish skin white? I know Asians know how to cook with various fishes. But what the #*# is white fish? I felt embarrassed. So I ordered next thing catches my eyes on the menu. I didn't get to enjoy my food in my car because I wanted to do my grocery shopping at H-E-B before gets dark. When I got home... Wait, where are eating utensils? Remember, the restaurant serves takeout only. It failed in my book because it was poorly packaged and food was not appealing. Tasted ok. But I was already turned off by the presentation. Edit: owner messaged me with an email longer than my original review. To clarify, I'm not coming back to get an updated experience, because they have an exclusive Chinese menu. What if you don't look Chinese but read Chinese and want authentic Chinese food. Love this place!!! My go to is the Kung Pow Chicken and the eggrolls. They have some of the best Kung pow I've ever eaten and the eggrolls are by far the best eggrolls I've ever tasted. Their portions are extremely generous, whenever I order I make sure to do it on a weekday because I know I'll have leftovers for work the next day. Service has always been great and their prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food you get. Definitely give this place a try if you haven't already! read more

Just purchased the fried chicken wings, cheese sticks and general tao chicken to go. The food was a 3/10. The fried chicken wings tasted not fresh and lacked flavor and seasoning. They were very flavorless . Couldn't eat them. The general Tao chicken was not spicy at all and the chicken pieces were hard. I didn't feel like the chicken in the dish was fresh either. This was just the blandest general Tao chicken I ever tasted. Even Panda Express general Tao chicken tastes better than this one. I advised my husband not to eat it. The cheesesticks were just Frozen mozzarella sticks. Just basic store-bought mozzarella sticks and they gave you ketchup to go with it. This place is a strong no for me. I can't recommend it. Though this restaurant wasn't located near the usual Chinese restaurants along the Bellaire Chinatown area, this quaint neighborhood Chinese restaurant does have a very authentic Szechuan (spicy) menu. If you're looking for some additional items that are excellent choices, ask for the "Chinese" menu. The location is well kept, clean. Although cooked well, it was bland but that didn't take away from the rest of our meal. We added the garlic sauce to our chicken entrées, and it was the perfect accompaniment. Picked up sesame chicken, stir fried sting beans, and jumbo shrimp Hunan style. We paid an additional $1.50 for fried rice with the meat dishes. We really truly only enjoyed the fried rice out of everything we ordered. This was our first time trying this restaurant. The shrimp were overcooked and dry, and still had the tail on them. Due to overcooking the "jumbo shrimp", they were reduced in size. They tasted stale and like freezer burn. I recommend that the restaurant remove the tail in the future. The sesame chicken was ok. To be fair, I think it would have been better eaten at the restaurant while the chicken was crispy because by the time it came home (I live 5 mins away) it was soggy. This was our first visit. The place was fairly empty for Saturday night and I'm not sure why. The staff was very friendly and the food was fantastic! We started with the fried pork dumplings. They were so crispy and juicy and fresh! They might have been our favorite part of the meal. We always start our Chinese food dinners with dumplings and these were seriously some of the best we have ever had. We read some reviews about the temperature of the food - not being hot enough. So, we ordered the sizzling beef in pepper sauce and the triple delight clay pot to be sure our food was hot. And both dishes were perfectly hot. All of the food that we had was super flavorful and very fresh. One last note is that the food came out incredibly fast. I have no idea how they got food that fresh and perfectly cooked out that fast, but they did. This place is a hidden gem that is right next to H‑E‑B. If you are in the area of this shopping center, make the stop here. I'm sure they are on DoorDash, but this place is so good fresh it's worth eating there to enjoy the food the way it should be eaten. read more

I stopped off for lunch on a Tuesday at about 1145. I was impressed by the interior decor after entering and being seated. They have a fairly large menu, so it took me a bit to decide. They took a drink order while I looked at the menu. I finally decided on a lunch special of Mango Pepper Chicken in garlic sauce. It came with a delicious Hot and Sour Soup. The entree was about two cups (more than I needed on my diet) and a full cup of brown rice. The food was piping hot and only mildly spicy. Refill service on the beverage was kind of slow. I had already paid the check before they appeared to ask if I wanted a refill on my beverage. NOTE: They have sign posted on the front door. NO FIREARMS ALLOWED. I had a good lunch at Spicy Chen. I liked that the Sweet & Sour chicken came with onions, pineapple, and peppers. The lunch dish includes soup, so I got the Wonton Soup, which was good. The food was good, maybe a little better than average. But I like North Harbor Bistro on Fry Road better for food taste. This place certainly has the stereotypical American Chinese restaurant stuff. But they also have a special Chinese menu. We tried the following from the said Chinese menu: Stir Fried Green Bean, Beef On Sizzling Plate, Mongolian Slice Beef, Bean Curd Clay Pot, Hot and Spicy Sliced Fish In Clay Pot. They were all excellent! The Hot And Spicy Sliced Fish was pretty spicy - it came with a generous sprinkling of dried peppers and mouth-numbing peppercorns. It made me sweat, but tasted oh-so-good. Glad we found some good authentic Chinese food without having to drive all the way to Bellaire Blvd. We will certainly return. read more
