One of the charming things about this place is the great food they make right here, signs of a really good chef hanging out in the kitchen. It's been quite a long time since I was here and as I was in the neighborhood I decided to stop by again today. Remembering how good they were last time, I ordered the Oma's Frikadellen (grandma's recipe for all-beef meatballs). I like a good German meatball and these were tender and juicy. There was a choice of red cabbage or sauerkraut as a side; having confirmed they made the sauerkraut in-house themselves, had to order that because I know it's super healthy to eat. Better yet, that sauerkraut was almost perfect with a great flavor, but not too tart and just really a delicious version. Honestly I could've eaten a huge bucket load of that sauerkraut and I may buy some to go someday just to have it on hand in my refrigerator; a slight warm and it would be a wonderful side to serve guests. Dessert was a wow! I wanted to try a dessert that they made themselves and so I couldn't help but go with one of the dessert specials of the day. There were several options available not on the menu and although it was tempting to try the tiramisu or one of the three versions of crème brûlée they make, I decided to go with their homemade limoncello cake which turned out to be a delicious choice that I'm very happy about. Waiter Ty said it was one of his favorite desserts here and I could taste why -- moist cake, flavor-filled filling, whipped cream and with blueberries to decorate the plate. In fact it was so yummy that I decided that so someday soon I would order one with a couple days notice and then take it to my family's place next time I go over for dinner - what I don't know is whether I'll tell them the truth or try and pretend that I made it myself LOL :-) Update: the next day I did call to order an entire cake and it didn't last very long once the family dug in, got gobbled up because it had an intense great lemon flavor, wonderful. read more

What a cute little cafe. I loved the decor and the ambiance. The waitstaff was great and had fast service. We had the fried shrimp appetizer. It seemed to be paired with a honey mustard type dipping sauce. Not really sure. We both order crepes. One was Ham & one was Chicken. We both loved the filling but we both agreed the crepe was a little bland by itself. The balsamic on top helped round it out. I had been wanting to try this place for sometime but I guess maybe our taste buds expected something different. I know that the reviews on here are high and I still encourage everyone to come and try for themselves. I know that not everyone likes are the same and I won't say anything bad about the restaurant. The ambience is delightful but the music was too loud and should have been French themed music. We were the only customers in the restaurant and I had to get up twice to find our server. Cute place! There are little nooks that look like various rooms in a home, plus regular seating in the middle. I was surprised how cute it was since it was in a bit of a bland strip mall. The service is really nice and it is a great place to catch up with gal pals. The food is ok and not too much on the menu. It seems more like a lunch place to me with sandwiches, salads, soups and desserts. I had a quiche Lorraine and it was good, but thin and not warm enough. The best thing we ate was a key lime tart. The fruit on top was so good. I'd like to try more desserts there. read more

Bad customer service the lady was rude. Food was bland and cold like their attitude wouldn't even recommend it to someone I hated. No surprise there because they're French, if that's even what they are always have an excuse as to why their food is always bland and sucks. It's clear they lack a lot of good hospitality and can't take criticism via yelp and google. look at how they respond to their customers experiences that they left them with. It's a direct reflection of how they'll treat you if you dine there. Never been to a business where they would rather they would rather argue than take accountability. read more

Not only is this a beautiful establishment, but the family who owns and operates it truly elevates the entire experience. I have had lunch here 3 times; I have never been disappointed. The ambiance is a small french bistro nicely done.The 2 staff I have met are gracious & accommodating. We had lunch (wife and I) today and we were satisfied. The cappuccino was tasty and smooth. I had the lunch special with ham and cheese croissant with a side salad and soup of the day, which was tomato. The balsamic vinaigrette they put on the salad was delicious. The croissant was great! Soft, buttery and not stale. The tomato soup was actually pretty good for a tomato soup. I little bit richer and great flavor, plus they top with two garlic/parmesan croutons which added another depth of flavor. My wife had the spinach quiche with side salad and French onion soup. Hate to say it, but the quiche lacked any noticeable seasoning and flavor. All the ingredients and texture were there but nothing stood out about it. Even the spinach didn't announce itself. The French onion soup was absolutely amazing! Best I've ever tasted bar none. Rich broth, oniony and plenty of cheese. Not sure if it was Gruyère or Provolone but still tasty. All that being said, overall, we both still enjoyed our meals. We will be returning. They also have wine tasting every last Friday of the month for $33.50/person. We're gonna go to one eventually. So my husband and I tried Mona's last night for the first time. The decor was charming and super cute! The lovely woman in the front seated us immediately, which wasn't an issue because it was SUPER empty in there. We kept things simple--ordering a quiche and croque with tea and water. I REALLY loved my Croque Madame! It was toasty and delicious and the egg on top was cooked to perfection--just the way I like it! My husband gave his Quiche Lorraine a 5 out of 10 because it was "a bit bland". The woman (also our server) was friendly and attentive. A few people came and went, but it still remained quiet during our meal. My husband was craving a chocolate croissant, but apparently they were sold out. He settled for the sliced apple bread. He liked it! I will definitely go back for brunch so I can try their crepes! read more

Mona's was such an inviting place. You walk in and feel all the vibes of the old country with the murals on the walls. The entire place is nicely decorated. The service was excellent. We were sat right away and because it was my first time our server had great suggestions. I went with a friend so we shared a bit of everything. To start we had the chocolate croissant. The perfect blend of bread to chocolate. Then we had the Mona's croissant- you could taste the freshness of all the ingredients. Then we got the combo plate that is a GIANT piece of quiche, we chose Lorraine, and a soup, we chose broccoli cheddar. Everything tasted so wonderful. This was our first time coming to this wonderful cafe. The ambiance is so quaint and wonderfully decorated. The service was right on point. The best part was the amazing food. My wife and I each had a bowl of their delicious tomato basil soup (the best we've ever had), the Croque Madame (perfectly done), and the hand cut fries. First of all, the atmosphere and ambiance is very nice. You could easily pretend that you are in a nice Parisian street cafe. The service was pretty good. The menu looks like it has a lot of nice dishes on it, but looks are deceiving. We came here for the Pizza Pretzel, but they were out. The beginning of our disappointment. I got Fried Fish ("fish and chips" style) and Cheesy Potatoes. I'm sorry, but if it looks like fish sticks ant tastes like fish sticks, it's fish sticks. Maybe higher end frozen fish sticks that come from Sam's Club, but nowhere near as good as london style fried fish from JLB or fish and chips from Redfish Grill. After eating one of three "fillets", really trying to give it a chance, I just couldn't eat the rest. I felt like I was in one of those restaurants that Gordon Ramsey comes to fix, imagining him getting served the same dish and his reaction. The cheesy potatoes were okay. The french fries and salads were good. My wife ordered the Croque Mirabel with an egg on top. She didn't care for it because she felt the goat cheese was too assertive. I ate the rest of it and it was okay. Not melt in your mouth like the Croque Masseurs that loved ones spoke of on their trip to Paris, but it was okay. I felt this place is probably more specialized toward breakfast/brunch with their quiches and crepes, so I feel like I could give them the benefit of the doubt, but that probably won't happen anytime soon. read more

Finally able to have lunch at Mona's French Café. The atmosphere was so welcoming and inviting. Depending on how many are in your party, you are seated in different private sections unless you sit in the main area. It's so cute! It's a French cafe, with lots of savory or sweet crepes, paninis and more, but y'all know I had to try one of the two German dishes. YUM YUM YUM! Steve's "St. Tropez Panini" was very tasty too. We met the owner Mona today for lunch. What a wonderful little place in Cypress! I highly recommend this place for French and German food. I spoke German my wife spoke French as we went into the restaurant. The owner, Mona, is fluent in both languages. It was a blast hanging out. You will love the decor! For now 4 stars because I went before their grand opening. I went around 11:30am. The staff was friendly, the brocolli cheese soup and croquet monsieur were great (although I would have liked a different cut of ham), but the accompanying side salad was silly. The salad was no more than a few strips of torn up lettuce and a hint of dressing. Also please use fresh iced tea instead of bottled. There are some nice tables in the middle if you enjoy the crowd but also some private nooks if you want to celebrate a quiet or special time. Lots of parking and if you go across the parking lots you can exit turning left back on to Spring Cypress. I look forward to coming back and seeing the updates. I will edit this when I do. We tried this restaurant on Friday. Arrived at 4 pm and had a very good Happy hour Cabernet accompanied by their excellent Charcuterie board. I loved the fact that we were left alone and never felt rushed. We also ordered a German sausage and sauerkraut dish with mashed potatoes which we shared. I really wanted to try one of their crepes, so I ordered the one with orange mermelade and a little dark chocolate. I loved it as it was light and served very hot. The atmosphere is cute, but more like a tea room than a nice dinner restaurant. Some money spent with a designer would go a long way to improve things. Service was very friendly and basic. They had some nice wine selections. A full bar would also elevate this place. Food was good, but very basic, as well. My husband really liked his steak frites. My bouef bourguignon special had a flavorful sauce and the mushrooms were great, but the beef was very overcooked. Apple tart dessert was really nice - light and tasty. I really would love to see this place succeed. Will try again for lunch, but if they want to succeed at dinner, they need some professional help to improve the atmosphere, service, and food presentation. read more

Stopped by this mom and pop restaurant to give the food a try. I was in the mood for french onion soup. Arrived to the restaurant where there were only 2 people in the place. I should have left. Anyway, I ordered the French onion soup, my husband ordered a sirloin meal with blue cheese and fries . When the food came out I noticed the steak was a chunk of meat. It looked hard and not tenderised. I started having my soup and after about 5 spoonful, I told my husband that the soup DID NOT taste good. I had maybe 3 more spoonfuls and realised....It doesn't taste good at all. And mind you, I LOVE french onion soup. My husband called the waiter to the table and I told him I did not like the flavour of the soup, and I did not taste good. He took the soup away and I looked over at my husband where he was struggling to cut into the meat. It was literally a CHUNK of meat. For being a " French restaurant " you would think they would know how to make a steak. My husband forced himself to eat the steak , we then asked for our bill. The guy had not taken the soup off the ticket. So we asked had he taken the soup off, he said, " No!" I told him I had not eaten the soup and that it needed to be taken off the ticket. He said," No, there is nothing wrong with the soup" and basically it was my problem that I didn't like it. I told him that was bad business. I told him to give me back the soup to feed it to my dog. Needless to say, he didn't give me back the soup either. So now we are on the phone disputing the charge and I'm on yelp telling everyone NOT TO EAT HERE! Sir, was a bad Yelp review worth a $12 bowl of soup. The place was empty, that speaks volumes. I guess they needed the $$$. read more
