I quickly searched on Google and found several options. Messina Hof grabbed my attention. First, it's out in the country, not in the busy Houston region. Second, it has food to pair with wine. Third, I love driving to Richmond Texas. I thought this city has a lot of charms. So, I made a reservation online. While that was not a requirement, but I would like to be reminded. We arrived at the restaurant late because I under estimated the traffic from Southwest Houston. My reservation was moved with my request, nice. The parking lot is huge and wheelchair accessible spots are on both sides of the entrance. We were one of 2 parties at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. The wait staff was very cordial. She introduced us the wine tasting menu: White Wine, Red Wine, Mixed Wines, Premium, Library and Sweet Wines. My friend likes to try their sweet collection, $28. I don't drink. So, I just looked at him enjoying the wines. It started with something weak to something strong like a Port and ended with something delicious that he really liked. Each pour is 3 oz, except 1 oz of port due to high alcohol content. We bought a bottle of Orange Muscat Mistella, $25. I don't think we can find this elsewhere for this price. For people like me who don't drink, I asked for a glass of sparkling red grape juice. We also paired our drinks with a wood-fired pizza and I ordered a Burrata Salad. They are quite delightful. I was surprised as the wines are travelled from Bryan/College Station and Fredericksburg of Texas. Umm... So, this huge facility doesn't produce wines. Although, there is a grapevines out on the front. As we've been told that those grape trees will produce grapes next year. The only winery tour is at those 2 locations. There is nothing to see here. Someone finally acknowledge us and asked if we had reservations we said no but we had a party of 7 she said let me check and came back to us she mentioned that she spoked to her boss and they decided it was at there best interest not to seat us we were stunned because the restaurant had several tables open I work in hospitality and know you never refuse service to anyone that is paying. We have been members of there wine club but I will be cancelling my membership and our son had his wedding reception there 3 years ago and they were in town and decided they wanted to go there for dinner and purchase several bottles of wine to take home we were so embarrassed they have lost my business forever. It is incredibly disappointing to have such a negative experience at a restaurant that we have supported and enjoyed for years. I hope management takes the time to review what happened, because this is not the way loyal customers should be treated.

This is not the typical festival that has thousands of people in attendance, they limited the number to create a better, more personal experience. We received a wine glass & a Wino Fest sheet for notes with the wineries in attendance as well as some educational materials to enhance our wine knowledge. Throughout the event there was live music, food vendors, and a great time! The information sheet that we received outlined each winery in attendance which we used to write down notes about each one. We learnt that unlike other festivals that charge an entrance fee for only 10 or so samples of wine, we could try all the different types of wine. This festival is designed to promote and support Texas Wineries. It was good to know that we 100% supported local TEXAS wineries.

When Nikki finally did reply, it was with a rude and dismissive message, one that I've attached here for transparency, without ever acknowledging my prior outreach. This is not the way paying customers should be spoken to or treated, especially when they have been spending money and not able to get clarity on their products. I had already canceled my membership before this exchange, but had I not, I certainly would have afterward. Her tone and lack of professionalism were unacceptable, and it made clear to me that she does not understand what respectful customer service looks like. She also had to backtrack on her email without even knowing the facts. The worst! I understand that closures and operational challenges happen, but respect and clear communication should never be optional. Unfortunately, Nikki Harris demonstrated neither.

We initially had a table that was not near a heat lamp, however an employee came over and let us know that we could switch to a table near the heat lamp which was appreciated because it was chilly. Our server was Laura. She was nice and funny. They had $25 flight specials. I went with the Sayanara Flight which had white wines. I really enjoyed them and they weren't too sweet. My friend had an NA wine which she enjoyed. We ordered the Truffle Fries and Meatballs. Both dishes were tasty. I enjoyed the aioli that came with the fries. They had discounted wines for purchase. Not all bottles were 50% off, however the gentleman that we spoke to went ahead and gave me a 50% discount on both the rosé and pinot grigio that I purchased which was so appreciated! I often pass by it going through a shortcut to I-45 and sometimes going home around the area. It's literally a 5-minute drive. I'm glad we made reservations because they were at capacity (150 person capacity) and weren't taking any walk ins. We got there early cause Resy suggested checking out the Tasting Room before or after the reservation time. We got there about an hour earlier, and the host said he didn't know anything about that except that the Tasting Room area was used for events. Interesting. We were seated earlier on the patio on this freezing evening. At first, we were at a table that didn't have a heat lamp, but when one freed up, they were so nice to suggest that we move closer to the heat lamp since they saw us shivering. Lol. We were thankful for that. I wore fleece lined jeans and brought gloves and a beanie anyway having been in the below freezing winter in London. Laura was our server and was kind and funny. So was this other guy who checked in every now and then. He made light of their last day situation. The dining area is so beautiful inside. I love the limestone-looking interior and chandeliers. My friend ordered Sayonara, one of their farewell flights which were aptly named for "goodbye". It was a great night on the patio but chilly.
