This was easily the best restaurant of our trip to Vail. We had a group of 4 and everyone adored their meal and the entire dining experience. We didn't have reservations on a Friday night, but they fit us in and treated us just as well as anyone else. We started with wine and had the biscuits as an appetizer. The biscuits were warm and soft with an incredible pepper jelly inside. The perfect combo of sweet, salty, and spicy. For our entrees, we had prime rib, prawns, rotisserie chicken, and rotisserie chicken salad. They were all AMAZING, but the prime rib was the shining star. It was cooked to perfection with a delicious herb rub on top. It was served with au gratin potatoes and creamed spinach, two delightful pairings. We would've ordered dessert, but the portions of the entrees were so plentiful that we were too stuffed to further indulge. This place has some of the best service I have ever experienced! They are super kind, informative about their food, and genuinely nice people who want you to leave happy. The only downside is you likely will have to wait a bit to eat if you do not have a reservation. The guys at the bar were sooo cool and accommodating though, so get an app and hang with Donovan the bartender. He was great to us! Wow! Five stars! My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here last night and couldn't have been more impressed. Visiting from Chicago we are a definitely spoiled with our dining options and we felt really at home at MS. The food AND service were exceptional. We sat at the bar and were well taken care. WOW! This place exceeded our expectations, and I can confidently say it's one of the top 5 meals we have ever had. We went early and sat at the bar, and the bartenders were SO helpful and nice. Mark was our bartender, and he was phenomenal!!! I had a jalapeño ginger beer concoction that was delicious, and my boyfriend had them make a special bourbon drink. You apparently can't go wrong ordering anything on the menu because it's that good. We started with the tuna Crudo.... delicious. I'm usually picky with my seafood in land locked states, but this was divine. We had oyster shooters and split the best wedge salad ever! We then split an entree of pork shank with cabbage slaw and gruyere mashed potatoes. Although we were full, we had to finish the meal with the homemade cookies and cream icecream. So good!!! Go to this restaurant next time you're in Vail. Hopefully Mark will be your bartender! It's wonderful. read more

We love this place and have been eating here since it opened. We wanted to sit on the patio but since it was full we went to the bar and instead of people watching we were attended to by Mike and the rest of the team at the bar. We had great service and the food just keeps getting better and better. The bruschetta was excellent with the savory and sweet flavors atop the crumbly corn bread and the burger, WOW!!! Maybe the best we have had in Vail to date! The heirloom tomato salad was perfectly prepared and served at the perfect temperature and the kale and cheese were oh so tasty and just right!!! After reading other reviews, I'm sorry we didn't at least take a look at the dessert menu. The place was packed and fun and the service was fabulous!!! We came to Vail during the off season. This place is the only restaurant open on the Sunday afternoon for lunch. The food from appetizer, item from the raw bar, main course to desserts are all very fresh, carefully prepared and delicious. The cocktail and draft beer we ordered are superb as well. I had the steak. It was ok. But they had no A-1 sauce. It wasn't that juicy and delicious not to have it. The sauce they had wasn't good. So I had to eat it when I made it home. The apple tart, had no crust.bit I give it 3 stars as well. I do thank you for being open in the off season. They do add 3% to your bill to pay staff in the off season. This spot used to be our favorite go to for Vail. The food is usually solid and service good. Last night, Mountain Standard fell from grace. For starters-- It was SO loud. My husband and I could not hear a word from each other. The kitchen staff seems to think the show is all about them. Every time a table buys them a round of beer, they go wild. Ringing bells and yelling. I'm really all about fun. It IS fun....until the 6th pep rally, in the middle of a nice meal. It's ridiculous, and began to fell like a frat party. If you have a large group, maybe the noise would not bother you so much, but for just the two of us, it felt overwhelming. Service was very good. The food was fine. Not as good as it used to be. Another review mentioned granola on most dishes. The liver pate was full of granola, that was fine. The crunchy (I think it was toasted quinoa) in the carrot salad was unnecessary. We split the salmon. Whatever sauce lined the bowl, before you plate the dish was assaulting. So overpowering it covered the other flavors. Maybe it had reduced too much, but I could not eat it. Hoping MS gets a few details corrected, because we usually enjoy dining with you. read more

We come every year hoping for the best and have been consistently disappointed. Last year it was the service, which was improved this year. But we come for the pork shank, and it is off the menu, and the trout, which was unavailable. So we tried other dishes --pork loin, chicken, duck, halibut. All I can say bout this place is wow! With Momo and my first time in Vail, this was an amazing place to have dinner and delicious cocktails! While we waited 20 minutes for a table, we sat at the bar and had some drinks. I went with a green chile type of Moscow mule with a jalapeño garnish. Delicious! The bartender was ready to answer questions about the drinks. We felt the need to squeeze in a oyster shooter which was a good call. We had a Buttermilk Sea Salt Biscuit app at the bar. When we were seated we ordered Smoked Beets and Gem Lettuce (amazing!) and Momo got Borden Farm Heirloom Tomatoes (however she wasn't feeling it so she returned it). For dinner Momo chose Rotisserie Chicken (moist and tender) while I chose the Rocky Mountain Trout (amazing and flavorful). The sides we chose were Soft Parmesan Polenta and Charred Shishito Peppers, Togarashi which were equally tasty but for sure get the Polenta! For dessert we went with the Smores dish. Side note, from the hostess to our waitress everyone was helpful, informative and friendly. They did not say the word no when momo didn't like her salad but offered to create it to her liking!! Honestly, I think Mountain Standard is overrated. Everyone hypes this restaurant along with its sister restaurant, Sweet Basel. For this review I will say that Sweet Basel is a favorite of ours. Tonight we ate at Mountain Standard. The place was packed as expected. Our reservation was timed well and we sat on time. Our waitress was great. The food? Really just ok. The steak was overly salted to an extreme. Seriously - I am still tasting salt back in my hotel. My wife had the salmon and it tasted overly "fishy", the sign of a salmon purchased too long ago. My view is that Mountain Standard is resting on its laurels, been too hot for too long. Its a nice spot but does not deserve the fame that everyone gives it. Not returning and I recommend others not try too hard to eat there. read more

I loved the atmosphere, I loved being able to see the cooks hustle and bustle in the open kitchen. We had a really nice waiter. The salad I ordered was one of the best I've eaten in my entire life. We ate here on our first night in Vail. What a downer. They were able to seat us in 45 minutes which we are grateful for, considering that we didn't book a table. So that is definitely not the issue. We got seated near the bar which was so noisy. We didn't make a big deal out of it, we were grateful just to get a table. Once seated, the waitress took forever to take our drink orders. When she finally did and had it ready, she offered to get us some bread. I think that was just said out of reflex because she totally forgot. By the time her memory came back, she gave us cold bread. We didn't get a chance to laugh because I kid you not, 20 seconds later, our entrees arrived! This kind of faux pas is unthinkable in restaurants like ths (one would think!). Speaking of faux pas, my husband ordered Wagyu steak and was not given a steak knife. He got a butter knife!!! That steak better be dang tender!!! (It was not!) At that point, we gave up. I didn't bother to finish my drink and certainly didn't bother with dessert. I'm happy for those who had a good experience here. We had reservations but the air was chilly so we walked in early and stayed at the bar instead. The bar crew were knowledgeable and friendly without ever encroaching. We watched some impressive drinks being carefully crafted while we enjoyed CO beers. My husband ordered the salmon at the bartender's suggestion and it was amazing. I love salmon and I cook it a lot so I rarely order it but I was jealous! The fish was perfectly done but it was the composition of the plate-the fire roasted veggies and the HOT Korean sauce that turned it into something amazing.
