Moonlight is so great! I am here at least once a week. Having a veggie menu and a meaty menu really makes this a place that everyone can go and find something to eat. I've heard from my dining companions that the fake meats are exceptional, though I've never had occasion to try it myself. LOVE THIS PLACE. I've been vegetarian for 4 years now and the one thing I missed about eating meat was Chinese food. This place nails it. They have a huge selection of vegetarian food. I always call for takeout and it takes them 15-20 minutes to have it ready. They never mess up my order and the food is always hot and delicious. My favorite things are the vegetarian general Tsos and sesame "beef". Definitely recommend! read more

I have gone here before for years and have to say, it is good food! Can't really go wrong with the food here. The only tip of advice is do not put your tip on your credit card. I seriously despise this place. I appreciate all the vegetarian options but the customer service is really lacking. I'm writing this 5 years late but it happened like it was yesterday, and unfortunate for them, I hold a grudge. So I come in with my friends, cold welcome is expected from the bitter waitress. We sit on a slouchy bench seat. So check it out, there were 3 other tables there. The waitress takes 20 minutes to take our order AND a whopping 1 HOUR and 15 minutes to get our food. We were so pissed we had already left even before the food arrived. We saw the waitress with our food from the parking lot as we were driving away. I love this place and I have for years! I am a vegeatarian and have found that they have some of the best faux meat dishes in town. Huge fan of the seasame beef! When I am under the weather their vegetarian pho with tofu skin cures me! They will even through in some assorted veggie meat for you. The interior of this restaurant is old and the owner could use some upgrades. But their food is awesome!!! Especially vegetarian dishes. We love their Singapore noodle, Mushroom Hotpot, Mongolian Beef, Hot n Sour Soup and Spring rolls. If you expecting excellent services likely you will not find it here (I guess just like any other typical Asian restaurant.) So, don't come here if you are looking for ambiance...you're not gonna get it. The staff could also learn how to provide better customer service. But, the food is great and the vegan options are awesome. I am not vegetarian or vegan; however, I've ordered off the vegan menu several times and have not been disappointed. Coming here for years with my grandma love the food. My advice get the hot and sour soup (non vegi) it is delicious also if you enjoy seafood the shrimp sauté is amazing and continuing to the tofu eggplant hot pot incredible especially over rice. Service isn't the most amazing but it is expected in a spot like this other than that a highly recommended place, food is always consistent and scrumptious! read more

I enjoyed the separate, full vegetarian menu at this Vietnamese restaurant. We had the egg rolls (excellent and full of a variety of julienned treats), the Sesame Beef (delicious and savory "beef" in a sesame garlic sauce over shredded lettuce), and the Lemongrass Gluten (the sauce was abundant but mild in flavor, probably wouldn't order this next time). This restaurant's atmosphere is fine for families, but not great for a date. The booth afforded privacy, but the windows were not cleaned and little was done to create a pleasant environment. It's pretty amazing/awesome that they offer an entire separate vegetarian menu. I can't explain this but the last two times I've been there, with two different groups of people, the waitress brought the exactly correct number of veg vs. non-veg menus needed for the group without us even asking. Weird and cool. The veg egg rolls are the best I've ever had. Only cons are that service can be slow and it's kind of dark inside. You must try the "Moonlight special" (vegan even if you are a meat lover). It will may even the pickiest person happy and unlike many other items, does not take forever to arrive. It is a make your own spring rolls platter! With noodles, sprouts, thai basil, fried tofu, fake fish, fried (but not greasy) eggplant, and this oh so amazing carrot-root pickled and sliced stuff. We know Moonlight does not have the most desirable service, bathrooms, location, neighbors, but they do have good deals and lotsa flavor. AND always remember to have the waiter read back the order the items they wrote down, it will save you headache 6 out of 10 times you visit! read more

Not only do they offer meat-free, vegetable only dishes, they more creatively "fake" meat elements of popular Vietnamese dishes so convincingly you might think you are eating the real thing. Even meat-eaters among you will take to Moonlight and its no-frills, traditional approach to Vietnamese cuisine. Yes, this place looks super sketchy but the food was amazing. My friends and I enjoyed several dishes from the veg menu, and really enjoyed everything - lots of veggies, and yes, the faux pork skewers are awesome! I can't remember the other dishes exactly, but one had faux beef which was super yummy, and fried noodles were good too. Only complaint other than the sketch factor - they were out of brown rice. If you're reading these reviews and trying to decide whether or not to check this place out, TRY IT! It's not fancy or gourmet. You won't find microbrews on tap or Mai Tai's (no cocktails at all). Meager bottled beer selection. But the food is GOOD. We are pescatarians (vegetarian plus fish and shellfish), and entertaining family staying at our house. I knew that they offered a "faux meat" vegan menu, and wanted to try that out. Even though she had the option of "real meat," my neice told me to pick the food. We did Spring Rolls (very good, on the larger side), Sour Catfish Soup (excellent, turned out to be my favorite), Shrimp Kung Pao (good), Shrimp Fried Rice (my wife's favorite), and the Mongolian "Beef" from the vegan menu, which was really a pleasant surprise! Even my niece, who teases me about the "fake meat" that we buy, LOVED it! For the first time ever, she said "good job" on my menu selections. The waiter first suggested steamed rice, then when I ordered the fried rice, talked me out of the steamed rice. He also talked me out of the large soup, because we ordered so much food. (That's on purpose, we like to have take out lunch the next day). I appreciated advice from staff, because most will gladly let you order way too much without comment. Pluses: good to excellent food, friendly staff that give just the right amount of attention, VEGAN and regular menu, parking lot, convenient location, fair prices. Moonlight Café is the restaurant I've been looking for! After being a vegetarian for three years, I sometimes get the craving for chicken, more specifically Szechuan or General Tso's chicken, and Moonlight cafe satisfied my craving! The staff was very friendly, the atmosphere was nice, no TV on in sight, and even though the building looked shady from the outside, the inside was very clean and well-lit. My wife ordered the gluten and cashew dish following yelp reviews, I ordered the General Tso's chicken, and we shared a plate of fried rice. Everything was delicious, presented nicely, and thank god, not over-sauced. They also served complimentary black tea which was very tasty. Basically if you want a delicious Asian meal, Americanized or more traditional, vegetarian or carnivorous, this place should be on your list! read more

Quite simple, but very yummy restaurant in China town. Note to carnivores - yes, they are advertised as a vegan restaurant, but they have meaty options too. Not as many as the vegan ones, but the selection is still very good. The vegan menu has a green cover, the meaty menu has a red one (in hindsight it's somewhat obvious :-) ). My colleague and I had both vegan and meat dishes, both delicious. There was plenty of seating around 11:30, and they got pretty packed after 12. Takeouts available. read more

The service is horrible :( Last time I went there they were extremely busy so my mom said to the waiter :"Oh can we order some for now and leave the menu here incase we want to order more?" Went here for dinner and they had great vegetarian and vegan options. The veggie phō was to die for and the soy meat tasted like the real deal. We didn't notice any problems with the service contrary to what a lot of people have said about it. Wait staff was pleasant and attentive and they brought us our waters and menus right away.
