Vegan friendly Moonlight has an all-vegan menu. I highly recommend their Hot Pot and amazingly delicious tomato-based soup. The soup "wowed" me with complex flavors. Like many Vietnamese soups it came with mildly spicy pepper slices, lime wedge, bean sprouts and fresh basil on the side to add as you like. I love that Moonlight caters to non-meat-eaters by offering a full vegan version of their regular menu. It's extensive. We ordered the shrimp spring rolls (regular menu), orange chicken (vegan menu), and the shanghai curry noodles (vegan menu). Everything was tasty, and we ended up taking home quite a bit of food. Service was attentive and friendly. Interior isn't noteworthy (think cafeteria) aside from the karaoke stage, but it's comfortable. Wow ! I'm very impressed with their vegetarian items here, not sure if it's vegan or vegetarian but I had to change my diet to low fat and mainly vegetables due to a health condition. Their chick'n pho was delicious ! Broth was slightly on the sweet side but full of flavor , lots of topping and you wouldn't be missing a thing ! If you're looking for a healthy, clear broth noodle soup, I recommend #45 hu tieu mi chay comes with veggies, tofu and "fake" meat that's the gluten. I also recommend the Vietnamese curry, a subtle curry with more coconuty curry that is light and delicious with rice. Not in a million years would I have known Moonlight Cafe is a Vietnamese location from the outside. They do cater to the vegans with tofu, fake meat soy products but what I came for is the traditional clay pot catfish and also the tamarind soup. Claypot catfish (Cá Kho To) - My all time favorite dish that must be accompanied by the tamarind soup. The soft braised fish is cooked in a caramelized sauce. Meat is tender and sauce is just about perfect. A wee bit more pepper and ginger to make it just right. Tamarind soup (Canh chua) - a tamarind, sour soup that goes well with a claypot dish like fish, shrimp or pork. Their version is good but is toned down quite a bit. If only they would use more herbs, fried garlic and additional sourness, the soup would exactly how mom used to make. This type of soup needs to be kickin' with flavor! "I know a good spot"......glad I trusted a friend's recommendation to come to this place. As we pulled up in the slightly sketch parking lot, mini-mart with bars on the windows, a sighting of a man with an unleashed wolf in the lot, and the wonderful smell of the Franz bread bakery, I wasnt sure what we were in for. Got a slight 80s look to it, with neon signs and decor, some mismatched furniture etc. But the gentleman that greeted us was very nice and I was in too deep to turn around. They have a vegetarian/vegan menu and a regular menu for meat eaters which is a plus. Everything looked so good and we didnt know what to get. Hot tea is offerred while we comtemplated on ordering from veg menu or regular menu. Server came back shortly and as we began to order the server triple checked with us to make sure who was vegan/vegetarian or not. Nice that they take the time to make sure as one of us in the group is vegan. "Real meat or fake meat"??? was the important question. I decided to stick with the veg menu, I ordered the Tofu Fried Rice but with egg, so it's non vegan but vegetarian. Super tasty, freshly cooked so it was super hot right off the wok. Very light, not with heavy soy or anything, tasty tofu chunks and a good amount of veg. A heaping plate full too so the portion was a plenty! My friends ordered Vegan Chow Mein and a Vegan Vermicelli Bowl, I got a taste of both and tasted wonderful and mental notes to order that next time. My other buddy ordered the regular Mongolian Beef and that was quite tasty as well, he enjoyed it very much and it was super flavorful. We all enjoyed everything and I would totally come back. For me, I normally love eating regular dishes with meat, but every time I go here, I always end up ordering from the vegetarian/vegan menu (the green version) over the regular dishes simply because of how delicious the food is. After visiting this restaurant for the past few years, quality has remained consistent and tasty. Most items are family sized and for the combo meals, these are often big and filling portions for individuals. If you decide you want to venture on the vegetarian / vegan side but fear missing out on your usual "meaty" taste, have no worries! Most of the vegetarian dishes share the same exact name as its meaty counterpart except......the meat is substituted with various ingredients like lotus roots, tofu, and etc. So really, half the time when you eat, you'll forget that you're eating some veggie thing (and not meat) but really think it taste like meat :P For my group, we ordered (all vegetarian / vegan option): Combo fried rice, sweet & sour spareribs, chicken nuggets like appetizer, curry stir fried beef, pan fried combo noodles, chow mein combo, and a few other small items. Alas, my group ate too fast for me to snap photos of everything, but let me tell you, everything was good. For the curry stir fried beef, this was yummy with its spicy texture (you must tell the waiter that you want the dish spicy if that's your thing) and flavorful taste. As for the fried rice and chow mein, these were seasoned perfectly that you didn't need to put anything on it. As for the pan fried noodles and sweet & sour spareribs, both were sweet and salty and had a good balance of everything. Overall, you really can't go too wrong in ordering food here. 3.5 I'd say. I can always appreciate places that have vegetarian options. The decor was simple, service was not really there once food hit the table. So I had the tofu porridge. It was pretty good for what it was. I'd say on the porridge side of things I've had better, this had too much water in it. Took away from the overall flavor. I did like the addition of veggies for it and the crispy tofu skin. The other tofu in the dish and meat alternatives were nice here and there. If the porridge had just been on point this would've been great. I kinda wish I had chili crisp and oil but that's just personal preference really. I can't believe I've never been here before! I don't know how many times I've driven by. It definitely looks run down and gives that hole in the wall vibe but it's quite delicious. There are some designated parking spots in the lot and there's also free street parking if you can't find any. Relatively spacious restaurant with plenty of seating to accommodate large and small groups. I go the dry glass noodles with a mix of veggies. Their meat substitute was delicious! The portion size was pretty large and I was quite impressed. I love how fresh everything tastes and not overly salty. Also the dish was $8! That's pretty rare to find in Seattle now a days. I love their vegan orange chicken and their Mongolian beef vegan dishes My favorite thing to do is to add the vegan shrimp to dishes. I don't know how they make it but it tastes sooo good. I convinced the kids to try Moonlight Cafe with me. Everything was soooooo good! I was not expecting to love the goi cuon chat as much as I did. The variety in textures and flavors blew me away; this is now my all time favorite cuon of any kind (I'm including nem nuong cuon from Brodard). The other thing I love about this place is that they do both vegetarian AND meat options equally well. I love pho. This pho was overpriced , lukewarm, served with ice cold noodles . The to go package was unwieldy, with the wider part on top and prone to tip over.
