After two previous less than great experiences at Monarch, we were invited back by the manager for a "chef-curated experience" to show what Monarch is capable of. They missed the mark again. Monarch was supposed to be this top rated restaurant that would potentially bring the Michelin Guide to Dallas in the hopes of receiving such an honor. Such a restaurant would start with impeccable service and of course, perfectly executed creative dishes. The service is good, but not great and certainly not Michelin level...not by a long shot. This is not simply to do with our main server, but every individual that is on the floor interacting with guests. The food is really good but not great. There is not much creativity going on here and that's fine; I would simply go with à la carte. When the manager suggested a "chef-curated experience" however, we were intrigued. Unfortunately, it was a generic experience. The dishes were straight from the menu, thus not intended for a personalized experience. Each course was paired with wine. While the wines paired nice with each dish, it was a missed opportunity to elevate the food. The somm definitely played it safe with the pairings but that just made the experience that much more generic. Last, if Monarch is going to continue to reach for upscale status, they should enforce their dress code; this goes for their staff as well. Grooming standards should be strongly encouraged. Made reservations for my birthday, the restaurant itself is fancy and the service is great (even if I did think our server was a bit snobby, he was still very nice)... it was such a nice touch to be greeted with champagne. We have all been to very nice restaurants and we just weren't all that impressed with the food... I was expecting to be wowed by every dish... the frito misto was blah, Cibo Divino is much better... the prawns were amazing, I will say that but two shrimp for $38 seems ridiculous. The Lasagna was ok, all the pasta dishes were pretty basic, well cooked though. Meatballs were decent but not the best I've ever had. The scallops were too salty. The lemon olive oil cake was not good... the toppings over powered the cake and the cake was dry. The orange creme ice cream was the best desert we had. Not sure where all of the negative reviews come from. I received excellent service from 2 servers and a trainer, a busboy, somm, and was checked in on by a manager. The food was universally excellent and totally repeatable. Even the complimentary bread and butter was amazing. If anything, I'd say all the food was a touch salty for the average palate but I love salt and thought it was perfect! Bartender was out of my favorite gin and made a great suggestion as a replacement for my classic martini. Somm listened to my likes, dislikes, and price point and suggested literally the perfect bottle for me. Didn't even try to upsell me. The bottle he suggested was actually less expensive than one I selected - that never happens! Texas Wagyu Striploin was one of the best restaurant steaks I've ever had! True, Monarch is pricey (you're gonna spend $250 - $300 per person to do it right, with alcohol.) But if you know and expect this, then it shouldn't be an issue. I would go back in a heartbeat and bring all my picky friends. Reason for 4 stars instead of 5? Monarch is located in the National building with The Thompson hotel, and is even listed on The Thompson website as an on-property restaurant. I had $125 F&B credit but couldn't use it at Monarch because they said they are a 3rd party operation. That's baloney (to put it nicely). There are 3rd party operators of restaurants all over the hospitality industry and this is the first and only time I couldn't do a room charge. (I'm tangentially related to the hospitality industry and know this for a fact). C'mon guys, don't be penny-wise and pound foolish. read more

Ok ok okay....where do I start....from the beginning. Came here with friends for a late dinner with no expectations. Wow was I blown away! First off, the customer service is Aserver at the bar, Courtney, was outstanding and just awesome (go see her when you go). Hamilton made sure we had a seat with an amazing view of Dallas and was so accommodating even while he was leaving. Shariah, our server was absolutely lovely and took very good care of us. Everything was delicious! For starters we had the meatballs cooked in the wood stove, tuna tartare, and the giant prawns (comes with 3 but they are giant). For our main course, we had the cacio e pepe (very creamy), the short rib bolognese (my personal favorite), and the wood grilled chicken (very juicy and flavorful); we also got the asparagus side (unique flavoring, it was a bit lemony and garlicky, if you like asparagus you'll love their take on it). Just a tip, the pastas are small portions, if you're hungry, not enough for a meal by themselves. To finish dinner, we had the olive oil cake which was also unique and yummy! Went here on Valentines day, and had a fantastic experience. Wonderful service, and fantastic food . My family had a memorable experience.

For a reviewer that actually rarely takes the time to review here ... I hope that you actually consider that as I write this... I only write when necessary. Arrived for a 7:45pm reservation, sat at 8:30pm. Sat at bar as asked before seating, ordered a drink, didn't get inquiry for 20 mins. Asked for somm after seating, he introduced himself as "resident wine snob", told me to "order what I liked", asked for substitution in prix fixe, was told they would accommodate, was ignored and never notified or apologized to, server never asked for allergy issues, got served allergic food item, which was replaced after course was already removed... spent the most I've ever spent on a meal and I've never been more pissed off. Server was Maxwell... he was all show... gave him a tip only because I feel for staff in this post covid environment... sadly, no substance. Note: as of 5/25 Monarch has, in fact, reached out to me in private and they seemed to be attentive to my issues... their proposed resolution was satisfactory and when they did reply is was appreciated. read more

Food was well prepared and nicely presented. Ambiance was ok, view is great. Service was really uneven - it's inconsistent with atmosphere they seem to be trying to cultivate. If you're just looking to enjoy some good Italian food, you'll be satisfied. I'd give it 4 stars for food and 2 for service and atmosphere. It's good, but it's just a little...tacky. This is not a negative review, but instead a bit of moderation to counter all the hype. Bottom line, if you're planning a special night out, it doesn't really live up to the hype of the more gushing reviews. (I'd just hate for someone to plan a really special evening and go away disappointed because of rude service, overflowing trash in the restroom, that sort of thing. If you are used to attentive, stellar service and possibly possess a black card, this is not the place to dine. It caters to 20 somethings who just want a social media pic. Reservation was at 7:30. Not seated until 8:30. No food until 9:30. Unacceptable for a $900 tab. Those over 40 and living a mature lifestyle, will be disappointed by the service, hit-or-miss food quality, and the boisterousness of those seated around you. Loud, bossy patrons telling other guests not to block their view out the window while seated at A BAR TABLE (not even in the actual restaurant) exemplified the type of classless guest they are trying to attract. If price is not an object when dining out, this is not the environment you want to be associated with. Location is fabulous and I do hope improvements are made in training to reflect the clientele needed to keep it a staple rather than a trend. This was my second visit (first visit consisted of a female waitress rolling her eyes at me when I informed her of my allergies in 2021) and after last night will most definitely be my last. read more

LOVED our experience last night! Wow, my husband definitely wins at picking this spot for my birthday dinner. Everything was spectacular! Loved the little complimentary bubbles when you first walk in as you are escorted to the elevator. The food was absolutely incredible. We savored every bite and if we hadn't been so full would have ordered more food. The last time our food was this good was when we dined at a Michelin star restaurant in Paris. Come to find out, the chef actually worked at two Michelin star restaurants prior! The view was incredible, the drinks were the best we've had probably ever, and the service was perfection. I mean even down to how our old silverware was removed for fresh ones was so elegant My only advice to management would be to have a more reachable phone number. We were running a few min late due to the storm and could not get ahold of anyone. We called several times and the phone just rang and rang. I am not sure if the phone number on Yelp is wrong, but it was the only one we could find. Other then that, we had the absolute best time. Thank you for seating us with the best view! I will start by saying the main reason for my 3 star review was due to the quality of service we received. Also I know Monarch is hoping to become a Michelin star restaurant so I wanted my review to be honest and give constructive criticism. I am very detail oriented and I believe what makes a restaurant amazing is when they care about every single aspect of your experience including food, service, lighting, timing, atmosphere, music, etc. We arrived for our 915 reservation and they informed us that it would be a bit of a wait but that we could help ourselves to a drink at the bar. We were totally fine with that as I enjoy being able to relax and sip on something before I eat anyway. We had a seat in the bar area and someone came to take our order. It was taking quite a while but I just assumed the bar was really busy and I know it's a new restaurant so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. About 20 minutes later our drinks still hadn't arrived and I noticed most of the bar was cleared out at this point. At 945 (30 min later than our reservation time) we received the text saying our table was ready. We still hadn't received the drinks we ordered but we figured we would just forget about it since we at least had a table now. I was still optimistic that the service would improve once we were seated. I have no complaints about our server as he was very polite and was pretty on top of everything but it still took quite a while to get our drinks after we had been seated at our table which is surprising because there were at least 3 or 4 bartenders behind the bar. As far as the food goes, it was very good. I think the presentation could definitely be improved upon, especially if they are hoping to become a Michelin star restaurant. No complaints about the oysters, but the miniature sized Tabasco bottle that was casually thrown in the middle was very tacky in my opinion and looked sloppy. This seems like something you would see at a gastropub or casual dining in general. The oxtail cappelletti was delicious and I was really surprised at the amount of flavor and juiciness. We also ordered the prime bone-in filet and it was cooked to perfection. The meat was buttery and tender. Very high quality. The green beans were pleasant and the wagyu carpaccio was nice as well. I do think they could find a better way to present the carpaccio. For desert we had the olive oil cake. I was pretty disappointed. The ricotta ice cream was delicious but the cake fell short in my opinion. The citrus on top doesn't mesh well with the texture of the cake. I do love that they had an array of digestifs to choose from but our server wasn't very knowledgeable about the different types. It would be beneficial to get them caught up to speed as this makes it a much more relaxing experience for your guests when ordering. Another thing I would like to mention is the lighting for the booths against the wall. We were first sat at a booth that had very harsh/bright lighting. The rest of the restaurant is dimly lit in the perfect way for a nice ambiance. Luckily they were able to move us to a different table fairly quickly and I do want to shout them out for that. Perhaps they could change the bulbs on those specific tables for future guests though. Lighting is extremely important even if your guest isn't conscious of how it's affecting them. Their music selection was nice but it would be even better if it was turned down just the slightest bit. The volume that it was at makes you feel like you have to yell across the table to be heard. I do love how the hostess and servers were dressed. Everyone seemed very put together and effortlessly elegant which added a nice touch to the overall vibe. In conclusion, I won't be running back to this restaurant. Though the food was very good and met my expectations in taste and quality, there are other restaurants with food that is just as good with impeccable service. That being said, I know this is a new restaurant and it will take some time to sort out the kinks. I hope once they have everything flowing a little better they will be able to focus on the small details to make the whole experience exceptional from start to finish. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this place will grow and flourish. read more

Opening Week and I was able to get reservations for My wife and I's date night for the month. This place is really nice, the ambience and the view is a sure win for any date night or night out! If you follow me you know that I reserve my 5 stars for special places. Well at the moment Monarch earned all 5 stars from the food to the customer service. In the lobby, Monarch offered champagne before heading up the elevator (My assumption; they are only doing this because it is opening week). Up to the 49th floor we went and recommend (set your reservation to catch the sunset. At the moment you can not pick your table, our waiter said that will be coming soon so... we were sat on the inside and not by a window but still a decent view). Our waiter was Conor(5 stars, someone I would request the next time we go), he took the time to explain the menu and what we should have. Since this restaurant is new I decided to allow Conor to drive our food and wine choices because I believe he would know best and he did. Let's start with the bread and truffle butter (Delicious) but I will not over do it on this because you have a long meal ahead of you. Next up the wife and I decided to share the Wood-Oven Jumbo Prawns, I could eat that all night and be set. You will not be disappointed in getting this app. Next up Pastas, the wife had the Shortrib bolognese and I had the Black Truffle Risotto both were really good but I look forward to trying something new. Main course since we were trying to save room for dessert, so I tried to go light. I had the Sole and the wife had the Veal. The Sole was okay nothing to write home about. The veal crust was definitely season well and was the better option of the two. Last the dessert ended the night on a high note. Overall excellent restaurant and great staff. I recently took some clients to Monarch for a business dinner. One of our guests was running late, so they would not seat us until he arrived. Ok, fine. When he texted us that the elevators were taking a long time and one was not functioning, we relayed this to the host stand. They informed us that if he didn't make it in five minutes, we were going to lose our reservation. We had five people--I'm not sure of the logic here. While we were waiting, I ordered a round of 3 drinks for the group. The bill was around 70 dollars for two glasses of wine and an old fashioned. When I did My expense report, I noticed that 20 dollars was added as a tip. When our guest finally arrived, they made us wait ten minutes to be seated. It was a less than ideal experience for someone entertaining clients. Seems like they wanted to be pretentious for no reason. read more

So where do I begin, I made this reservation for my anniversary about a month before & as difficult as it was to get a table on a Saturday night the wait was worth it! I did find the host incredibly rude when I first checked in but the manager Dan seemed to make it right . He was able to get me a special table and brought a champagne toast to my table . My servers name was Josiah & he honestly made our dining experience so great. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave some bomb recommendations. We booked this weeks in advance and it met my expectations. We arrived, valet parked and were met with sparkling champagne and the directions to the restaurant upon entering the building. After confirmation of our reservation we waited in a nice lounge area where I ordered the Sovereign, which I equate to a smoother Old Fashioned. Once seated we had starters including calamari (a lot of meat, unlike other restaurants) & tuna tartare along with a complimentary bread basket with a sweet butter. My entree was black truffle risotto with a side of mushrooms. Looks are deceiving because the entree looked small but was filling! They even were generous with shaving the truffle table side. I order another cocktail, Diamond Noir, which was sweeter than the other but I enjoyed more. Dessert was espresso along with chocolate cake, toffee cake (not a fan of coconut, so my least favorite) , & ice cream/tiramisu. Overall the dining experience was great because of the food, staff, and environment. It was a lot more relaxed than I thought. Request a booth by the window . We we're seated in a corner next to a waitstaff hub and the farthest from the windows so if you're going for the view, I guess you better be specific. The view is the best thing about Monarch. The food isn't really worth the hype although is wasn't bad, however, for the price? No thanks. $90 bone in rib-eye had a bad taste from an over sear in a skillet, very off putting flavor as almost a burnt char. No complaint about the service, fairly spot on. The main issue is the customers and the lack of managerial authority to enforce standards. They state that they have a dress code, they even text it to you along with your reservation confirmation. But let me say that they do not enforce it and it is degrading the restaurant's reputation as a high end establishment. I witnessed multiple people wearing shorts, some wearing work out attire (yoga pants), tacky ripped jeans, one guy literally wearing a tee shirt, basketball shorts, and Nike slides, like he was picking up a game at a park. I'm not a prude but if others are expected to follow the rules, management should enforce it on others, no exceptions. Our experience at Monarch will not have us returning, ever. read more
