We had been wanting to try out this spot for a while and finally made the reservation for my birthday. First of all, the service was amazing, I can't remember his name but he knew the menu well and was able to direct us. Second, the cocktails were amazing - I have been searching for a porn star martini that made me feel like I was abroad and they did that. The espresso martini also is the best we've had in Texas! Now the food, we got the tare tare, carpaccio, Cesar salad, lobster pasta, halibut, and tiramisu. Would get everything again except the halibut, it was a little underwhelming. We shared oysters, frito misto, and the Cesar salad. I had the pasta a la vodka. It was tasty. I have no complaints about the food, but no wow either. My friends and I celebrated my birthday here and honestly I was disappointed in my meal. I got the lobster spaghetti and it lacked flavor and as a former waitress I can tell that it had been sitting by the expo line waiting for the other food to cook. I also didn't have enough sauce on my spaghetti. I think the empty lobster head could also be removed from the plate. I love lobster but I didn't like the texture or flavor of the lobster. I didn't want to send the food back because I didn't want to seem rude however I wasn't fan of the meal. The calamari was delicious and the whipped mashed potatoes were great as well. The service was amazing and my waiter was awesome. However if I'm going to purchase a meal for $75 I expect a hot flavored and properly cooked lobster. read more

First, it's a great date place. Unique experience. Cool vibes. I suggest reserving a window seat, which requires you to spend $125 per person, I believe. We first were going to be sat down by the small bar, with our table practically in the middle of the thoroughfare between the two dining rooms. Ridiculous to have tables there when you are spending so much money. They kindly moved us to the small dining room, which was nice but I sat facing the bare wall and gave my wife the seat looking outside, which was still far away. The closer window to us only had a view of the building next to us. The windows out in the main dining hall had all of downtown Dallas to view. They should have the chairs on the sides of the tables so both people could look outside and they should have some art on the walls. So, this was overall, very annoying, as we were both sold on this place because of the views. If you do not have the window seats, the tables are in the middle and it's quite busy in between the tables with not much room. We shared the Caesar salad and it was very average. The filet mignon was excellent and the mashed potatoes were very good. The Brussels sprouts were too sweet and mushy. I like them crisp and more salty. The tiramisu was different. It was ok but certainly not the best ever and not worth the $16. I would try the chocolate soufflé next time. read more

Went here on a Saturday evening at 6pm for a date night. We both had a great time. The experience started with valet service. Once you walk in, the staff offers complimentary champagne while we're waiting for the elevator to get us to the restaurant. Once inside, the ambiance was very upscale and inviting. Not too busy or noisy. We reserved a table next to the windows to enjoy the great view of downtown which definitely added to the experience. The service was great and timely. The staff (I apologize for not remembering their names) were even able to recommend the perfect bottle of wine for us based on our verbal description of what we were looking for. I barely even drink wine yet I still enjoyed their selection. They also gave a detailed description of the entire menu and talked through options with us. For food we ended up getting the tiger prawns for our appetizer which were delicious. For entrees we selected halibut and the filet mignon and we felt as if both were among the best we'd ever tasted. For sides we had the broccolini and the mashed potatoes with truffle mushrooms, which were also among the best I'd ever tasted. That's saying something considering that neither of these sides are options that I typically choose and yet we thoroughly enjoyed them. Everything was cooked to perfection. The only slight I'll give on the food was the chocolate cake we ordered was "ok" but not great. It was missing a level of moisture and richness that I've experienced in other cakes. Still not a bad option though, just not on par with the rest of their food. Afterwards, the staff suggested that we try the soufflé next time so I'll keep that in mind. We did the Royale and I can't recommend this enough, you will leave not only stuffed but so spoiled that regular food the next day will be ruined and unappetizing. The cocktails were good, I tried a non-alcoholic lavender drink which was very refreshing. Food came out very quickly and the waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu items. The herb ricotta agnolotti was so tasty - it melts in the mouth. We also tried the filet mignon and halibut which were both good as well. The chocolate cake came with a lit candle since we were celebrating a birthday, it was good but very filling and slightly over-sweet. This place is such an interesting mixed bag. The service, the views, the general vibe of the place is all 5-star initially . No doubt. Our server was almost comically friendly to the point where it was approaching feeling phony. The inside of the restaurant and the views were also incredible. All that being said, the clientele and mood of this place is extremely pretentious. If you're a 50+ greasy dude with your 24 year old girlfriend, you're the target demographic. The food, which is the source of my low score, was really disappointing. It was all extremely average and does not live up to the hype, and certainly not the price. I had a steak which was overcooked and completely flavorless, and my wife had some seafood that she said was "just ok". One of our sides was completely wrong, and the pasta dish we ordered was served cold. Our server told us he would address stuff but then disappeared until we were done eating. So I guess we got a side to go which will just end up in the trash. Our server also aggressively requested to put his contact info in my wife's phone so we could contact him "for reservations and stuff". That was fucking weird. Full stop. This is one of the hottest and coziest spots to dine in Dallas. It has has everything for most foodies, romantic view, ambiance, great food and service. I didn't feel like it was a tourist trap. Dined here several times with friends and we all have similar but different palettes and there has not been a complaint. Not too big on cocktails but did take a liking to The Duchess The CRUDO is a favorite of mine but also liked the Fritto Misto and Oven Roasted Prawns were all amazing. I've been to Monarch several times and yesterday I received horrible service. I came with a group of 3 girlfriends and from start to finish the server was rude and inattentive. Monarch ended up to be everything I hoped it would be and more. I was so excited to take my boyfriend here for his 30th birthday. I had a friend that came here with her husband in celebration of their anniversary, and they highly recommended it. So I expected great things from here. It did not disappoint. We did not do valet, and I wish we did. We ended up parking in the parking garage which was the same price as valet which is $10. I think we did not get complimentary champagne upon arrival, because we did not do valet or go through the front entrance. So I would definitely do valet next time. Once we got to the 49th floor from the elevator, we were greeted by friendly hostesses. I had made a 6:30pm reservation for us. We arrived a few minutes early and were seated quickly. I was so happy to be seated at a window. I had requested this and would have been very disappointed if we did not get a window seat. It made our night so special. Our waitress, Daisy, was so nice. I could tell that she wanted to make our experience the best possible. She was very attentive and made us feel comfortable. I liked how she would come by to check on us and strike up a conversation. I feel like I haven't been to many restaurants where you can get that kind of service. It makes this place stand out for me and is exceptional in my book. She also offered to take our picture which I thought was so kind of her. The service was so amazing, but also the food was too. We were served complimentary soppressata, olives, truffle butter, and bread. Oh my goodness, the truffle butter was heavenly! I loved it so much. It paired so well with the bread. We ordered the crudo for an appetizer. The salmon, hamachi, and tuna was so fresh and flavorful. Every component of the dish worked well together. We had a hard time deciding what drinks to get since the drink menu is so extensive. I love having so much variety to choose from tho. My boyfriend ended up getting the Improved Whiskey Cocktail. He loved the smoothness of the drink. After talking to the sommelier, I chose the Rare Wine Historic Series Madeira Flight. It came with four 1.5 ounce pours. These were dessert wines, so I could have had it later in the evening versus during the meal. However, I enjoyed being able to savor each one during the whole course of dinner. For the main course, we decided to share one of the house-made pastas and one of the entrees with two sides. Our favorite dish of the night was the black truffle risotto. It was one of the best risottos I have had and that is saying something since I have had many risottos. It was cooked perfectly. I wish it came with visibly larger black truffle shavings. But that is okay. The lamb chops were cooked medium rare as requested. Perfect char, tender, and flavorful seasoning. I really really liked the herbs and spices the chef used on them. Compliments to the chef! The sides were very good too. We ordered the fire-roasted brussel sprouts. Our waitress, Daisy, said that this was new to the menu. We enjoyed it very much. It went well with the lamb chops. We also ordered the wood oven-roasted oyster mushrooms. Seasoned to perfection and complimented everything else that we ordered. I thoroughly enjoyed eating everything. We were so full by the end of the night. The sunset was just out of our line of sight from where our window was, but it still was a lovely view of the city. After the sun went down, all of the city lights made for such a beautiful view. At the end of the night, we ordered the toffee cake pudding for dessert. Extremely tasty! We could barely finish it since we were so stuffed. But it was so good that we did end up eating every last bite. I loved that they put a candle on it to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday :) Last but not least, they gave him complimentary little pastries in a cute box from the pastry chef. This was a delightful surprise. The cherry on top of a great night. Monarch exceeded my expectations. I could not have picked a better place to celebrate my boyfriend's special day.
