We came on a Monday during a very quiet time. Since it was our first time, we appreciated the very friendly staff. The Pulled Pork and Burnt Ends were fresh and uniquely flavorful. But the Collard Greens were exceptional with a nice spicy touch. The only flaw was the potato soufflé side which was too creamy and mushy for our tastes. We really appreciated that the cook asked our opinion of our choices. We would definitely recommend a stop here. read more

After passing this place many times, I finally stopped in. Definitely glad that I did. The service was great. The guys working at the bar gave helpful suggestions for what to order. Very nice. The food was prepared quickly and was tasty. Portions especially for the sides were small. For the price, I expected larger sides. Smoked wings hot the spot; I'd go back for those alone. I was surprised at how empty the place was on a Friday night but I will be back. read more

Came with a friend on a Friday evening and it was remarkably quiet. There was plenty of parking around the restaurant. We ordered the large ribs platter and the smoked wings based on the waiters recommendation as being the most popular dishes. All orders are placed at the counter. Ambiance: 4/5 It was pretty smokey inside and gave a very local smokehouse vibe Service: 4/5 food came out at a decent time Food: 5/5 It was probably the best smoked ribs and wings I've had in the triangle. The smokey flavor permeated the meat and the Alabama white sauce complemented the wings well. Price: 4.5/5 The price was decent for good bbq. Overall: I'll definitely be back and tell others about this spot! read more

Not the best bbq that I've ever had, but damn was it good. I got some wings, ribs and brisket and it was bomb. The cornbread and the vinegar slaw were sooooo good, probably my favorite part. The ribs and the brisket were a bit dry in my opinion, but lather on some of that bbq sauce and its all good. The chicken wings were def my favorite part though. read more

Besides some of the best bbq their side dishes are just as delicious. Recommend the vinegar slaw, baked beans, hashbrown casserole. They only have one bbq sauce and it's really good. The pork is pulled and very clean (one of the only places I order bbq pork). Brisket is fabulous read more

Seen it for years but had not been there but went there with a friend and business associate and I thoroughly enjoyed the Chicken and two sides as well as dessert...It was relatively well priced and the staff member gave good advice on what to eat.....she also earlier was reflecting on the song Two Betty or something like that because before me and my friend she was serving two ladies named Betty....Fun time and I loved the rustic appeal of the atmosphere.... read more

This was my first time at Moe's Original BBQ in Durham, and it definitely won't be my last! The food was absolutely delicious. I had the smoked turkey sandwich, baked beans, jambalaya, and finished it off with some banana pudding--all of it was top-notch. The service was fantastic, and the staff made me feel right at home. The atmosphere is a blend of a sports pub and a BBQ joint. I'll definitely be back for more! read more

First of all, spacious inside with a lot of seats. We came on a weekend night, 30min before closing! Not much of service, but not complaining bc we don't have to tip and we were too hungry too! We couldn't get many of the stuff on the menu, bc they were out of it. Understandable since we came late. Three stars , really bc it's just very average. The Mac and cheese was just average. Wings were good but I expected better when this place is rated highly. Just another mediocre place probably will go again if my friends want to but not gonna be a place I recommended people to go to read more

Excellent pulled pork platter (yummy mac & cheese, cole slaw, and greens) and pulled pork sandwich. Wish I live closer.

I liked this place a lot. You walk in and are greeted kindly. The door handle is a cleaver and the rest of the restaurant is mostly decorated like a normal BBQ place but has some undersea elements which I thought was cool. You order at the counter and after just a few minutes, they slide out your food on a tray and you take it to your table of choice. They have a whole roll of paper towels on each table and extra BBQ sauce that you can take with you to your table. All the side that I tried (mac&cheese, beans, cornbread, banana pudding) were all really good! The beans tasted a bit sweet. The cornbread was a bit dry and didn't have the best flavor which was disappointing. The meat was cooked really well and the BBQ sauce was a bit sweet and complimented the meat well. I will definitely come back next time I visit my sister! read more

This place was by far the best BBQ in Durham and possibly the entire central NC! The baked beans were awesome. They were probably the second best I ever had with the best BBQ beans being from Bozo's BBQ in Mason, TN. This place "was" absolutely the best! This is why I was shocked and greatly saddened to learn that they have permanently closed. Don't know why. It certainly wasn't the quality of taste of their food since everything was simply amazing! Maybe it was the poor business climate of the city or the high biz taxes, or maybe the greedy landlords charging too much for lease so that they can afford their 4th vacation home in Guatemala. In any event, Moe's BBQ will be greatly missed. Whoever was the cause of this place going out of business I can only hope the fleas of 1,000 camels attack you in places you're unable to scratch! read more

Pretty decent hole in the wall kinda place! I got the large ribs platter and my boyfriend got the smoked wings that came with the Alabama style sauce. The ribs were pretty good, I feel like I'm not the best judge of authentic BBQ tho. The smoked wings were actually sooo good, packed with flavor and really crispy. The Alabama sauce was a good touch to contrast the flavor. The sides were delectable and surprisingly really fresh. Service was friendly as well. read more

Moe's BBQ is a fantastic plate of BBQ every time, with plenty of options and no fuss. They offer a variety of menu stalwarts and rotating specials, so you can either stick with your classic staples and experiment a little. I love all the little things they do right: the music, the sauces, the draft beer options, the well-crafted sides, the pickles, the griddled cornbread. These types of little touches are what make Moe's SO money, every time. Regarding the meats, everything is super solid, but I think their smoked turkey and wings are done very well. Moe's gives you a range of BBQ options without any weak spots whatsoever. You don't need to wait in a long line or pay an arm and a leg for crafted BBQ, just go to Moe's. read more

We stopped by on a Thursday at around 5:30. There was one other person inside waiting for an order. I had checked their online menu and we ordered takeout. We got the (I can't remember what it was called) 1.5# of pulled pork that came with 3 sides (we got baked beans, coleslaw and banana pudding) and we chose the cornbread. It was enough to feed the 4 of us. The order was ready pretty quickly. Pork was OK. They only have one type of sauce. Basic sauce, no spice. Bake beans were very yummy. Cornbread was an interesting spin on cornbread. Give it a try. DO NOT get the banana pudding. Probs worst banana pudding I have ever had. We stopped here because it was on the way to where we were visiting for dinner. Would not go out of our way to stop again. The young man at the register was friendly and helpful. read more

Great food, good service. All of my food was hot and delicious, pulled pork was solid

Visiting the South, of course I want BBQ! The cashier was really helpful in answering my questions about the food and even giving me some samples to taste before I ordered. I got the ribs for 2 which come with two sides, got the Mac and cheese and sweet potatoes. My partner got the wings as an add on. The tables are really spacious and the vibes are pretty quiet and chill. I enjoyed that since when eating BBQ you need alllll the space. Starting with the wings, honestly my favorite part. I thought they would be hot but instead BBQ with this white sauce on the side. I. need. that. sauce. It was so flipping delicious, my partner and I had a great time digging in and really eating. No judgement here, just full bellies. I felt like a little kid eating those wings lol. Onto the star of the show: ribs. They were cooked to perfection, really tender and flavorful. I had to put on my own BBQ sauce which I usually prefer to have on the ribs when I'm served them. The sauce leaned more tangy and not that classic sweet and smoky. I suppose that might be a regional difference but still, I felt a bit cheated. Nonetheless we ate those ribs to the bone lol. The sides were pretty tasty but at this point I was struggling to eat, my partner easily kept going. The Mac and cheese needed pepper in my opinion, it was good but not great like the Deep South. Sweet potatoes did their thing but no marshmallows (?!?), so strange and sad. It's the little things that really make a meal. My partner got the Reese pie which is chocolate pudding and Reese peanut butter on top with whipped cream. He said it was pretty decent, not mind blowing but satisfied the sweet tooth. It was a tasty experience and I would come back if in the area. read more

I had high hopes for this local BBQ joint. Not a huge place, but enough seating for everyone. When I approached the counter to order, I asked the employee what they recommend, he said definitely the brisket. So I ordered the brisket platter (comes with 2 sides and a drink for $18)- honestly a good deal for the amount of food you get. Unfortunately, the brisket was extremely dry, had literally no juiciness that you expect when biting into brisket- which also made it not tender. It was also very seasoned/peppered with their rub- I didn't mind that though. I had the Mac n cheese and banana pudding as my sides which were both delicious, along with the complimentary cornbread. But nothing could make up for the dry brisket. read more

I've been waiting to eat here and finally made the time to. I was really expecting something different and special but -- it was just another BBQ joint. The line to order was located in an awkward place, I could only imagine how confusing it may be on a busy day. I arrived around 7:00 p.m. on a Friday night. There were people dining in but the seats weren't filled. There were about 2 orders ahead of me. I was surprised how long it took for me to get my food -- 15 minutes? It was to the point where I was tempted to go check. I ordered the small order of 4 pork ribs, 2 sides, a drink. It came out to be $15! Ok...for that price point; it better be some good ribs. Ribs: Ahh...nice smoke ring but mediocre in my opinion. It was a bit on the dry side. I was given 1.5 bone and 2 slabs of meat. If you don't believe me, look at my photos. I swear, I did not eat the bones. I thought I ordered 4 bones? (LOL). Did I just pay $15 to eat imaginary ribs? Common! Potato salad: OK...nothing else to say. Coleslaw: Almost OK...I didn't finish it. Corn Bread: The real MVP. This was by far the best cornbread I've eaten and I'm not a cornbread fan. It was quite delicious! I would order this. Sweet Tea: It was delicious. Overall, great customer service. A worker was kind enough to come by and wipe my table. That was a kind gesture. I wished the experience would've gone better but from the bottom of my heart, this is my honest opinion. read more

Pretty good bbq. Best I've had in Durham. Friendly staff. Quality meats. Being a first timer I had the brisket platter that was advertised and I told the cashier to pick my 2 sides for me. He chose the hash brown casserole and the jambalaya. Bother were great! Maybe it's because I prefer my beef rare but the brisket was a bit overcooked for my liking and that's the only reason I can't give this place 5 stars. Next time I'm in Durham I'll be back, and ready to try some more options! read more

I really like this Alabama-style BBQ joint! I tried Moe's out for the first time last year, and I wish I had taken a chance on them sooner. There is no shortage of amazing barbecue places in the Triangle, but Moe's offers a little something different with their Alabama white bbq sauce, tangy slaw, and sandwiches like the fried shrimp moe boy. Their pulled pork is tender and flavorful. I love that they rotate sides and specials often, so each time I visit I have a chance to try something different. If you're not in the mood for bbq when you visit, I highly recommend their fried shrimp sandwich. It's delicious! They also offer fried catfish, smoked chicken, turkey, and ribs. Their sides are comforting and remind me of home, in the best way. I especially like the creamy hashbrown casserole and their sweet potato casserole with cinnamon corn flake topping. I'm not a huge fan of the dessert options, but I think it's cool that you can get one as a side item. I am often stuffed by the time I am through with my main entree and side. The restaurant is just off of Ninth Street, making it an easy stop if you're on Duke's campus or visiting Downtown Durham. The indoor space is large and the tables are nicely spread out, which has made it feel like a safe indoor dining option during the pandemic. There are a few outdoor tables as well. They have a private parking lot, and although it's small, we've never had trouble finding a spot. The employees have always been super friendly and helpful and prices are on par with most bbq establishments in the area. read more

okay foodie peeps... as we have all experienced and noticed many places have struggled with staffing and supplies during the pandemic. But going to Moe's this last week I was pleasantly surprised to find an upbeat staff that seemed to be adapting to pandemic life positively. Everyone was wearing their masks (properly) and very friendly and helpful. The place was clean and the food was fresh and tasty! We had ribs, pork and chicken wings. The meat was flavorful without being too greasy~ And I swear the ribs and pulled pork were cooked for days! Tender, Juicy, and nummy! We also had their corn, hashbrowns, collard greens, and slaw: all of which were good, and offered that "family recipe" uniqueness. They have a pulled pork sandwich with slaw and both, white and red BB-Q sauce- don't pass that up. And last but definitely not least, we finished the meal with some banana pudding. You do not want to pass this up either -- their banana pudding tastes like it has a little cinnamon and the love of 1000 angels in it... In summary, I can't wait to go back. They have Nachos on Mondays that look pretty good and I am dying to sink my teeth into the ribs again. If you are wanting to support local business through these trying times - stop in here for a meal - you won't regret it! read more

I don't usually review but this place is something special! The sweet potato casserole made me feel like the food critic in Ratatouille. Everything we ordered was amazing, and even though we were stuffed as ticks when we left we were already discussing how what we were going to order the rest of the nights we are spending in Durham. Staff is super friendly, the place is clean and the tables are generously spaced in a very welcoming atmosphere. I wish we had a Moe's at home! read more

This place has great barbecue, good service and would definitely visit again when I'm in town

Spending the weekend in Durham, MD. Stopped at Moe's for dinner and oddly enough, I loved she aides more than the BBQ. The ribs were ok, and the chicken wing are pretty good with the white sauce, but the brisket was way too dry and peppery. I couldn't even eat it. Now on to the sides, the true stars of the show. The cornbread is sweet and crispy, collards have the perfect texture, potato salad is classic, baked beans are incredibly tasty, Cole sale is tangy and sweet, and the Mac and cheese has a great flavor even though it could use a tad more cheese. We completed our meal with the banana pudding and left plenty full. I hope you all enjoy read more

Awesome everything Food, service, atmosphere, best chicken wings ever!!! A new go to for sure when in town.

My fave bbq spot. I love the wings and the ribs... and of course the Alabama white sauce!!

Good af barbecue just a semi odd location quite frankly. The baked beans were soooo yummers

Delicious food, great tangy bbq sauce, friendly service, not too crowded on a Thursday summer night
