we stopped by for lunch on a saturday and had a great experience overall. we ordered the garlic parmesan thighs, honey mustard thighs, sweet thai coconut chili wings, and a full order of plain waffle fries. the waffle fries were easily the highlight for me. they're simple, crispy, well salted, and honestly up there with mcdonald's fries. the chicken pieces were huge, and we ended up taking leftovers home. i loved how crispy the skin was, especially on the garlic parmesan thighs. my biggest complaint was that the meat itself wasn't as tender and juicy as i expected. the garlic parmesan also had large cracked peppercorns throughout, which wasn't my favorite, so i probably wouldn't order that flavor again. the honey mustard wasn't really for me. it tasted like the chicken had been coated in a lot of honey mustard dressing. i preferred the sweet thai coconut chili wings by a good margin. the prices were very reasonable for the portion sizes. the restaurant has a colorful, family-friendly atmosphere with fun decor, including kids' artwork on one wall and tie-dye merch for sale. our server was attentive, the restroom was clean, and everything felt well maintained. we parked a few streets away, but it wasn't difficult to find street parking. read more

I wanted to give Heavenly Buffalo after hearing about their dry buffalo rub. I've only had the saucy variant, so I was curious to taste the difference. I ordered the chicken thighs, which I prefer over wings, because of their size; however, I was sorely disappointed when I got the order. Shrinkflation is real, as the thighs were the size of wings I've gotten from other restaurants. The dry rub flavor was good, but the chicken was hard to eat. The chicken must have been in the fryer for too long, since the meat was tough and dry. Pros: Flavors are good. Cons: Chicken size, cooking time, and portion could use some work. I can't speak for the hot sauce, but the lemon pepper seasoning was on point! Tangy, malty (if that's even a word), and salty! My only quip is the juiciness of the chicken. Aren't chicken thighs supposed to be juicy? Mine felt rather dry. The crispiness of the exterior and skin was nice, but I was hoping for a burst of juice with my bite. YUM! That might be all I need to say. We loooved this place. Had a very long day of traveling and are in town for a wedding. Stopped in after receiving a recommendation from someone and it's safe to say they were right. This place hit the spot. I love Heavenly Buffaloes! We live in Wake Forest but every time we are around Durham or Chapel Hill we stop there to eat some wings. The Heavenly Buffaloes dry seasoning is so good that it's worth the 35min - 45min drive just to eat there. We usually get some boneless wings with dry Heavenly Buffaloes seasoning and the Idaho fries with dry Heavenly Buffaloes seasoning. We ordered 3 different flavors of boneless wings- mild, bbq, and garlic ginger. Of the three, mild was the best and bbq was good; garlic ginger was ok. The boneless wings are more like chicken tenders, they come in small strips. The dressings ranch and blue cheese dressing are decent. Wings come with carrots and celery. My favorite of the meal was the salad. Full size is huge with lots of fresh greens, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, and pumpkin seeds. My husband and I had lunch here recently on a rainy Saturday. There is minimal parking outside, but we had no trouble finding a place. The menu is pretty straight-forward, there are vegan wings (made with a locally sourced soy product), boneless wings, and regular wings. There are sweet potato fries and Idaho potato fries. Then there's like one chicken sandwich and a salad. Where the menu gets complicated is with the sauces! There are around 20 sauce options for the wings, and 7 options of dry rubs for the fries (if you wish). Then they say you can get a dipping sauce for your fries from the wing sauce category. This is seperate from the ranch of blue cheese they'll give you alongside the celery served with your wings. Whew! As someone who LOVES condiments and sauces, this was a dream come true. But choosing between all the delicious-sounding options was tough! We ended up going for the garlic ginger on our boneless wings, which ended up being my favorite. VERY gingery! Then for our two orders of regular wings we tried traditional medium spice, as well as Ol' Vinnie, a vinegar based sauce. We got Heavenly Buffalo House dry rub for our Idaho fries, with a side of honey mustard sauce for dipping. And the ranch, of course. Their soda fountain is filled with artisan soda, which is very cool and a nice change from most places! The service was great- the cashier was very helpful and patient with us despite our numerous questions and indecision. The food came in a reasonable amount of time, and we dub in. Everything was very tasty! Hot food, crispy fries, perfectly done wings, everything was just FUN to eat. I can no longer support Heavenly Buffaloes on Franklin St. because of their misleading pricing practices and poor management. First, the good: the food is great. I've been regularly eating at Heavenly Buffaloes since the year they opened in Durham, and then at the Chapel Hill location when it opened 10 years ago. I think they have the best wings in town. That's why it pains me to say I won't eat here anymore. A few months back I went in on a Tuesday and asked about their half price wings special (BOGO 1/2 off). The cashier confirmed it was available and I (absentmindedly) ordered 13 wings. Again, I had *just* asked about the lunch special seconds before ordering. He charged me full price ($22 for 13 wings) instead of the special ($18 for 14 wings). I got my wings and then realized the mistake a few minutes after I left when I received the charge notice on my credit card. Thinking it would be an easy fix, I called the store and reported the error. The man who I spoke with, the same cashier, seemed amused and refused to correct the error. He *admitted* he had charged me MORE for LESS wings, but said I hadn't ordered it "the right way". I swear it sounded like he did it spitefully. When I asked for the manager's name I was shocked to learn he IS the manager. He legit DID NOT CARE. Al I was pretty upset so I refused to go back for months until this week, when I popped back in again. The dining room was oddly closed at lunch time, but they were accepting take-out orders. I ordered their lunch combo for the day including wings, fries, and a fountain drink. As I went to pay the cashier informed me that the fountain machine was broken, but I could buy a soda from the cooler for $2.50. I pointed out that the combo INCLUDES the drink and that it wasn't my fault that their machine was broken... She refused to include the drink but did intend to charge me full price for the lunch special which already included it. I'm OVER this place. Each of the past two times I went to Heavenly Buffaloes they overcharged me or attempted to do so. I recommend visiting Wingman in Carrboro Plaza instead. read more

Not so heavenly, more hellacious. Don't remember much about the food other than the wings were unnaturally large and service was acceptable but not good, server seemed disinterested. My meal was interrupted when my car started leaving without me. BEWARE! They are partnering with Barnes Towing predatory towing to have your car towed. Certainly, there are applicable times when a vehicle should be removed, parked in a handicap spot, fire lane, outside a hospital emergency room entrance, blocking a main road. Any of those would be reasonable, if not expected. The real issue here is that Barnes Towing is literally preying on and stalking patrons by paying employees to sit and watch from computers, in a remote location, the cameras they installed on the Heavenly Buffalo (and Heavenly Buffalo has allowed to be installed and participate in this) and McDonald's buildings. These predators watch and wait for an unsuspecting patron to break any of the ill identified or purposely vague rules so they can send an apathetic truck driver in to steal the vehicle or charge the utterly absurd $200 in their "pay to drop" scam. Aside from vague and inadequate signage denoting the prescience of this predatory activity, the McDonald's parking lot used to have very clearly marked "M parking only" painted in bright yellow on the spots that were for their patrons exclusively, that is reasonably a fair warning. Barnes Towing has had these markings removed to purposely trick visitors so they wouldn't know they were subject to being towed or booted (preyed upon). Images from Google Earth confirm this and are publicly available. These markings were removed and replaced by the comically small "If towed call Barnes towing" sign that makes no mention of how one would avoid being towed or anything about "parking only for ..." absolutely nothing. These trap spots are not identified in any recognizable manner (purposely to trick visitors) and nobody should have to suffer through this. Sadly, there have been far too many victims as voiced through reviews of the companies participating in this, Barnes Towing, and town meetings, not to mention, those who have not yet spoken up against this scam happening in their backyard. We need to stop this predatory practice and protect our students, visitors, and community from this extortion and abuse before it spreads and harms more people. This is also done at the Panera Bread on the same road. Edit to reply to Lara: Primarily, any spots for Heavenly Buffalo parking are not clearly marked, as is supported by previous visitors encountering the same issue and this being an ongoing problem. You said it yourself the pictures show the "McDonald's side of the parking lot and not ours." THAT'S THE PROBLEM, there is no distinction whatsoever between what is your parking and what isn't. It's a contiguous parking lot touching both McDonald's and Heavenly Buffaloes. As your patrons park here, it IS your responsibility to reasonably identify your parking spaces and what is your lot. Instead of paying you to reply to Yelp comments about this continuous issue, use that money to buy a can of "Heavenly Buffaloe's Orange" spray paint and spray a nice obvious line over the currently invisible line that separates your parking. That would be looking out for your paying customers. read more

Heavenly Buffaloes serves premium chicken wings (boneless or bone) with lots of sauce and rub options. They offer several other items to accompany your wings. My cousin got the wings and said that they were great. She could tell immediately that the meat was good quality. Being vegetarian, I selected Fries with loads of Garlic and parm. I also got a soda. I'm not able to reference the wings but the fries, service and experience was overall good. They offer a SOY meat substitute made in Morrisville. They use local materials that are fresh! So Vegans and Vegetarians don't count this place out as there is something here for you! Our experience was lead by Bo! He was super awesome. He allowed us to take our time looking over the menu. He even made a few awesome suggestions informing us of some of his personal favs! I absolutely love the soda that they dispense! Be sure to try all of the flavors. The parking is rough as they only have about 4 spots in the front of the building and the rest seem to belong to McDonalds on the side. Let me start by saying the food is amazing. I have been here numerous times and love the food. If you're looking to dine in...don't. Do take out instead. The service is absolutely horrendous (from certain servers). I have been a server since I was 18 so I understand it's not easy but tonight was terrible. I ordered wings and fries, nothing unusual. It took 50 minutes for my food to come. Meanwhile other people were coming in after we ordered, getting their food, FINISHING THEIR FOOD, and checking out before we even got ours. Our server then come out with the food after the 50 minute wait and said "kitchen messed up the order" which is classic server talk for "I screwed up and forgot and now I'm blaming the kitchen". Keep in mind there was one other table in the whole place occupied and they had a different server than we did. He never checked on us after dropping the food, did not fill drinks once, and then never even dropped a check. I had to walk up front to ask for boxes and the check because he literally never came back. I have never in my life, until today, stiffed a server. Oh my Heavens!!! My lunch was so delicious there's no way I had time for a photo I had vegan wings (Carolina honey mustard) and a side salad. The vegan wings were a good size and very flavorful. I only ordered the 7 wings so I could only get one flavor but the flavor I chose was amazing! The side salad was the largest side salad I've had and it full of very fresh veggies including peppers, pumpkins seeds, and more. Just the wings and side salad were very filling! Came here after a Saturday conference where the food fell flat. After 7 hours of near starvation, I knew I needed something filling STAT before heading to visit family. I remembered that there is a Heavenly Buffaloes location in Chapel Hill and promptly pulled up my Yelp to call in an order and get directions. When I called, the young lady efficiently took my order and told me it would be about 15 minutes. I was only 5 minutes away so I knew I may have to wait for a little bit when I arrived. The location was easy to find. Right on Franklin Street and there is ample adjacent lot parking. I went in and checked in with the cashier who told me my order should be up shortly. I took the opportunity to grab a water cup and rehydrate in front of the huge screens showing college football and catch my breath. Within 10 minutes, my order was packed up and ready to go and brought out to me. I returned to my car, set up my meal in the front seat and noshed on the way to my visit. The food was good as always. Served hot and with the perfect amount of sauce and seasoning on everything. I always get the smallest Thai Chili vegan wings with peanuts and a small order of waffle fries and it's always MORE than enough with 3 wings leftover for a later snack. As usual a great experience! Heavenly Buffaloes is hands down one of my all time favorite places to eat at. Whenever I go there, I always order the Spicy Thai Coconut Chili boneless wings, which is both crunchy and sweet, and the sweet potato fries with the Sweet Mesquite BBQ dry rub on it. All my friends love it as well, and whenever people come to visit, they always ask to go here. The one thing I would suggest is if you have 2-3 people and want to share fries, get the half basket. I got the full basket once, thinking it would be perfect for two people, but it was definitely a "family-size" portion. If you are debating on where to eat, definitely go here. I heard so many good things about their vegan wings here that I just had to try it. Honestly, I wasn't too impressed, but I also think it might just be me. All of my other vegan friends totally love it! Personally I just think that the texture is just a bit too tough and the flavor is off. It doesn't taste bad, but I was just underwhelmed given how much praise my other vegan friends were giving it. That being said, I do appreciate that they have a vegan option and tons of options for flavors. One thing I absolutely love about the food here is their FRIES. Both the regular and the sweet potato fries are just perfect! They're crispy and flavorful and you get a lot for what you pay for - even the half size was too big for me. (But that means I had some for later, yay!)
