I checked out a few barbeque spots in Durham on my recent trip to visit Duke's campus and I think this was my favorite. We ordered the full rack of rib platter for 2 and were completely stuffed afterwords. It came with 2 sides, cornbread, and drinks. For the sides, we got mac and cheese and banana pudding, which were very good. We actually took the pudding back to the hotel room because we were so full. Sweet tea for drinks was also very solid. As for atmosphere, I'd say Moe's is pretty versatile. It definitely has a bit of a sports bar feel, but it's still comfortable enough to bring the family too. Having spent the last 8 years in Texas, I was told the style of bbq is very different and less tasty in North Carolina. Apparently I was lied to, because Moe's blew me and my dad (a bbq fanatic) out of the park. This is one of the best joints we have ever been to. Everything was on the sweeter side (maybe this explains why this place was especially tasty), and extra bbq sauce to your heart's content. There didn't seem to be any beef on the menu though? I would recommend all the meats and sides we got: pulled pork, pork ribs, baked beans, slaw, Mac n cheese, and bread pudding (YUM)! I can't wait to come back with friends!!! This place is the place! So good. After visiting family in Raleigh, this place hit the spot for our "tour of the south" culinary experience. I was very excited to check this place out for lunch today based on the recommendation of a coworker, and it did not disappoint!! Good customer service, clean space and amazing food! I got a pork plate which came with a drink and two sides. This is my new favorite pork place, hands down! I ordered hash brown casserole and banana pudding as sides, but I got hash brown casserole and baked beans, although I didn't get to try the banana pudding, the baked beans didn't disappoint! The meal also came with a piece of corn bread which was pretty good as well. I do think their price point is a bit higher than other bbq places in the area, but for the quality of the food, I don't mind paying a little bit extra. Walked in to the cashier looking at her phone and not saying hi. My family and I asked questions about the menu and she responded rudely not making any eye contact. We ordered the wings and ribs, wings were definitely microwaved or were old. Ribs were soft, fell of the bone but had no flavor. Potato salad had no flavor and Mac and cheese was okay. Definitely won't be coming back. Owner definitely needs to talk to the cashier about hospitality. I don't understand how this place got 4.5 stars. read more

We went a few weeks ago for my spouse's birthday. Everything was scrummy. The red sauce is delish. The ribs were tender & fell off the bone. Mac & cheese was quite cheesy. The chicken wings were substantial - they were enough for two meals (as is the case with just about all takeout). We got chocolate mousse for dessert and it was a smallish portion - just right. Excellent food! We ordered the pork platter and pulled pork sandwich. Great flavor and texture. I especially love the collard greens, they are so good. The other sides we enjoyed were marinated coleslaw, BBQ beans, and corn bread. The only surprise was how tiny the iced tea is--disappointing but you don't have an option to order any other size. I really wanted to give it a 3.5 so I rounded up. Like the ribs was good but like them sauces ain't saucing like I need it to. I want a sweet smoky sauce so I can really be in love. So let's talk about the beans. Most bbq joints have trash ass collards and beans. These collards were seasoned very well and just needed to pinches of salt. Them beans were good. The other reviews were good so we had high expectation. It was not very good at all. The pulled pork sandwich was dry and did not have much flavor. They only offered one type of bbq sauce and I did not care for it. Collard greens were so salty that I could not eat them. The cucumber salad was good. They didn't load us up like we were going on a trek like City BBQ did, but I think Moe's had better food overall. Especially their sides. And their sauce! I'm more of a Texas BBQ sauce kind of person (when I want sauce at all, I kind of like the Memphis dry-rub thing), but this was the first place I thought, okay, I can get behind sweet, vinegary and tangy, I guess. It's got ok BBQ, but having lived in Eastern NC and Kansas City (two incredible places for BBQ), I can't say it's anything more than average. A little underwhelming given the reviews. Got a pulled pork sandwich with sides of marinated slaw and Mac and cheese. The side potions were a bit small but tasted good. The slaw had a nice cut to it but the Mac and cheese was good, but nothing amazing. In the sandwich the bun was good and the sauce they gave on the side was actually quite good. The pork had some good flavor but was honestly quite dry and a bit tough at times, forcing me to use the sauce (which I'm glad was actually good). I had been wanting to go to Moe's since they opened, but had been putting it off and finally made it in on a recent evening for takeout. My order was the pulled pork, with baked beans and potato salad and "nana puddin" for dessert. Everything I had was great. The cornbread they give you is delicious also. I think Moe's BBQ is actually a chain(?), but if that is the case it doesn't look like one. It looks more like Moe's tavern on the Simpsons than the Southwest chain Moe's and they don't yell "Welcome to Moe's!" when you walk in (thank goodness). Normally I don't give out five stars after one visit, and that one visit being take-out, but everything I has was great, so I figured why not.
