Wife had the pork bbq and I had bbq chicken. She thought the pork was the best she's had in NC and liked the white slaw. The chicken was good. Tender . I got the red slaw and baked beans. Will get white slaw next time. Note the baked beans are not gluten free and have pork in them (important for allergies). We will go back and I recommend for all ages , dates and even the right type business meeting (one that would be ok at BBQ joint).

We were sat within 15 to 20 minutes, with a party of 10 which is pretty freaking awesome. We started with some beers, waters, Diet Coke, and a few cocktails. We also tried the fried pickles which were pickled spears crispy, tasty, and light unfortunately though the coating kept fell off a lot, and that was a little annoying. The dipping sauce I believe a homemade ranch was good. Everyone basically ordered a plate which consisted of a meat of your choice two sides, and hush puppies. Overall, the food was tasty. The brisket was juicy. The pork was eaten up by all, and the hush puppies were crispy. The only issue would be the sides were OK. The french fries were good. The collards were raved about the corn pudding was OK and the green beans were tasty. I'd say this is a place to try. It's definitely a little bit of down home feel with comfort bites.

The staff are all amazing... super helpful explaining the menu and favorite options highlighted. The food was amazing. I highly recommend everything we had. It was my first experience having collard greens so I have nothing to compare them to but WOW they were delicious. The corn bread was over the top yummy too. We had sausage and rib tips too. We will definitely be back. Yummy and again the staff/owner were delightful.

Once again, I am always willing to give restaurants a chance to prove me wrong... and once again,…read morethey have failed. My motto is simple: if you can't see the smoker and smell the smoke, the BBQ is going to be bad. This place is no different. My family ordered the pork belly burnt ends, pork ribs, chicken Philly, and smoked mac and cheese. Let's start easy--the mac and cheese. My grandparents used more salt and pepper in their mac and cheese than this place did. The only ingredients seemed to be noodles and cheese. What happened to flavor? Spices? Maybe some paprika, cayenne pepper... jeez, something. However, as a bit of a warning sign, the mac and cheese had more wood smoke flavor than anything else they served. Next, the ribs. Some people believe in the 3-2-1 method--I'm not a fan, but it can work. These people must believe in the 1-2-3 method: 1 hour smoked on a Traeger, 2 hours wrapped, and 3 hours cooked on high heat in the oven uncovered. That's the only way I can figure out how you end up with jerky-dry ribs. Not only were they dry, they didn't have any flavor. The chicken Philly was dry--my wife hated it. The pork belly burnt ends actually looked great--nice cube size, good presentation--but biting into them was a different story. Chewy, bland, and dry. I honestly don't know how you manage to do that with pork belly. Really disappointing experience overall.

Right texture and good portion. Ribs are beautifully cooked to perfection. Season very well. Good smoke ring on meat. I paired it with the bbq sauce which was sweet and tangy. Very good ribs. The portion was perfect. Next time I will go with one meat Va two meats since the portions are generous. Hush puppies were pretty good. I like the fact they made a center indentation to make sure they are throughly cooked. The flavor was just right not overly cooked or salty. More of a sweet batter taste. The customer service was pretty good. Really fast service and they move that line pretty quickly. Over all it's a good choice for Carolina BBQ. I will definitely come again and try something new next time around.

I'll preface my review by saying I really tried to not compare this to other extremely prominent smokehouses in other states like Texas, for example (Terry Black's), but admittedly I did a little of that. So with that being said, on its own without comparison I give it a 5/5, when compared with TB's, 4/5. Let's dive in! The spot itself is super cool, I love the stacked wood at the counter. I also love how open it is, plenty of seating (including bar, especially nice if you're solo like I was), plus the self-serve nature of everything. There's a sauce (their homemade sauce is tasty!) and hand wash station, and boxes are readily available to grab. The market itself is worth the visit! Wonderful inventory and great prices, too! Ordering was easy (I'd pre-stalked the menu) and there are tons of options. I went with the 2 meats/2 sides option and got brisket, sausage, mac & cheese with bacon, and yams ($26 after tip). The meat was really the star of the show, that brisket is so tender and melts in your mouth...yum. The sausage had great flavor, though I do want to try their occasional jalapeno & cheddar version. The sides were a bit lackluster for me. The M&C definitely needed some creaminess, and the yams while good didn't blow me away. The hush puppies were really dry, for me at least. The staff were nice and efficient, and multiple asked me if I needed anything as they walked around. All in all, a wonderful experience and I'll definitely be back! Can't wait to try brunch!

She was busy holding down the fort-taking orders and cooking too. I later learned that it was a family run business. I ordered the "spicey meatloaf" with 2 sides (there were a lot of side options to choose from). My two sides were fried okra and stuffing. She ordered the chopped bar-b-que pork with coleslaw and mac 'n cheese. We sampled each other's food with the satisfied expression of closed eyes and a 'MMMM" while eating. Everything was DEE-liscious! Wonderfully seasoned, great portions and perfectly cooked. It's one of those times when I wished that I had a bigger belly or a clone, so that I could try more food!...or pick up and move to Yanceyville NC! Other patrons asked a lot of questions about the other menu items. That's when I learned about their "black cornbread". The owner said it was her father's recipe. It uses black cornmeal and other spices. We took ours to go and later (really) enjoyed it back at our hotel. The owner/cook also gave us a sample of her chicken salad. It was so so good, seasoned wonderfully...more reason to be fatter to be able to eat more!! I would recommend anything and everything there, because I'm sure it's cooked right and with love! When I walked in…read morethe door I was expecting your typical NC BBQ joint, but was surprised to find it's a Jamaican restaurant now. It looks like the restaurant recently changed hands and the new ownership is taking it in a new direction. Consequently the menu is a mashup of the old menu and Jamaican dishes. I was very pleasantly surprised with my curry chicken served with rice and cabbage. It was a typical Jamaican yellow curry with bone-in chicken and potatoes. The curry was very flavorful, but not spicy. In hindsight, I should have asked if they had some Jamaican scotch-bonnet hot sauce to spice things up a bit. The cabbage, cooked with ham hocks or something similar was fantastic; it was the best cabbage I've had in a long time. All in all, my meal was excellent. My wife tried the BBQ. The fries were cooked to order, the slaw was creamy, but the BBQ was a disappointment. I tried a bite and it reminded me of the sort of pork BBQ that you can buy in the grocery store. It was a definite meh, at best. My curry chicken was definitely a 4-star meal, while the BBQ rates 2-stars, so everything averages out to 3 stars. That said, I suspect that if you stick with the Jamaican menu, you're likely to get a 4-star or better meal. One last thing: If you pay with a credit card, they hit you up with a 4% upcharge. Disappointing.

Having been huge fans of North Carolina style BBQ, we were not disappointed. My wife and daughter enjoyed the Pork Plate. By for me, I went with the two meat combo with Pulled pork and brisket. The pulled pork was spot on. It was perfectly smoked and almost melted in my mouth. With a touch of spicy vinegar sauce, I was gone to Carolina in my mind for the rest of the day. The brisket might have been some of the best I've ever had. It had a nice fat layer and was also "melt in your mouth" and juicy. The brisket didn't need any sauce at all. It was that good. The hushpuppies were the star at the table. My family considers themselves to be connoisseurs of hush puppies, and these were ranked in the top five. A respectable ranking from such a discriminating hushpuppy panel. The sides we sampled included collard greens, mac and cheese and BBQ beans. The collards and Mac and cheese were out of this world. I should have ordered a double serving of the collards. However, the beans were a huge disappointment. They were more like a bowl of sub-par chili than BBQ beans. If we return, they will not be selected. A great BBQ spot when you are in Durham. Highly recommend you stop by, if only to taste the brisket!
