    Flounder filet platter
    Helen B.

Flounder fillet platter unsatisfactory. Fries, just Okay, hush puppies Okay. Baked beans were good. Slaw was minced and we didn't care for it. Milk shake ok. Just nothing really delish and we know it's fast food, but we expected more. Total bill $15.

BBQ chicken, ribs & hush puppies

A delicious assortment of BBQ at this outlet of Hursey's in Graham. Having passed the billboard for Hursey's on I-40 many times, decided to give them a try. Ordered a combo plate, offering the opportunity to try a little of everything. The combo gives you chopped pork BBQ, brunswick stew, ribs, fried chicken, 2 sides and hush puppies. Every one of the meats is delicious. Ribs are thick, smoked to perfection - falling off the bone. A great char on the outside, tender and moist on the inside. Chicken breaded and fried golden brown. The breast is juicy and tender, not at all greasy. Also smoked expertly, the chopped pork is moist and flavorful; served unsauced. Brunswick stew is a scrumptious concoction of chopped pork, corn, diced potatoes, lima beans in a tomato-based broth. This might have been the best taste of the meal. Sides are OK, but nothing special. Finely chopped slaw is creamy and sweet; good but not great. Green beans tasted like out of a can. Hush puppies were great, nice and crunchy and sweet. Shout out to the BBQ sauce. This is Hurley's own, and outstanding. It's a unique combo of vinegar and tomato based, slightly hot, slightly sweet, slightly tangy. You KNOW a bottle of that stuff was purchased to go. If you're a local or just passing through on I-40, take the 1 mile detour off the interstate for some solid BBQ.

Ribs, BBQ pork, and all the fixins'

It seems that things have changed a little since the last time I visited Hursey's. To be fair, it's still a very solid establishment with good food and friendly people. It's just that the food isn't as good as I remembered it to be. Specifically, when I recently tried the ribs (both pork and beef), they were somewhat dry and lacking in BBQ sauce, particularly the pork ribs. I also remember the beef ribs being larger in portion. The chopped BBQ pork was good, but I felt like it lacked the smokey flavor I was hoping for. Without a doubt, it's still a great place to get chopped BBQ pork. The brunswick stew, however, didn't disappoint. I think it's what Hursey's does best, and would recommend it to anyone. It's basically a large portion of BBQ pork in a rich, flavorful tomato-based stew, and that's all you really need to know. Go get you some now before you miss out. I also tried their milkshakes and wasn't too impressed with the peach flavor - it was too icy and not creamy enough. The banana pudding was good, though - a lot thicker and tastier. Overall, it wasn't as great of an experience as I had remembered having at Hursey's in the past. That won't stop me from stopping by if I'm in the area, and it shouldn't stop you, either.

Fried Chicken tasted old, FFs were awful, and the slaw was even off.

An Alamance staple. Great for feeding a large group with catering or in the restaurant. Eastern Carolina style vinegar based barbecue.

Right texture and good portion. Ribs are beautifully cooked to perfection. Season very well. Good smoke ring on meat. I paired it with the bbq sauce which was sweet and tangy. Very good ribs. The portion was perfect. Next time I will go with one meat Va two meats since the portions are generous. Hush puppies were pretty good. I like the fact they made a center indentation to make sure they are throughly cooked. The flavor was just right not overly cooked or salty. More of a sweet batter taste. The customer service was pretty good. Really fast service and they move that line pretty quickly. Over all it's a good choice for Carolina BBQ. I will definitely come again and try something new next time around.

I'll preface my review by saying I really tried to not compare this to other extremely prominent smokehouses in other states like Texas, for example (Terry Black's), but admittedly I did a little of that. So with that being said, on its own without comparison I give it a 5/5, when compared with TB's, 4/5. Let's dive in! The spot itself is super cool, I love the stacked wood at the counter. I also love how open it is, plenty of seating (including bar, especially nice if you're solo like I was), plus the self-serve nature of everything. There's a sauce (their homemade sauce is tasty!) and hand wash station, and boxes are readily available to grab. The market itself is worth the visit! Wonderful inventory and great prices, too! Ordering was easy (I'd pre-stalked the menu) and there are tons of options. I went with the 2 meats/2 sides option and got brisket, sausage, mac & cheese with bacon, and yams ($26 after tip). The meat was really the star of the show, that brisket is so tender and melts in your mouth...yum. The sausage had great flavor, though I do want to try their occasional jalapeno & cheddar version. The sides were a bit lackluster for me. The M&C definitely needed some creaminess, and the yams while good didn't blow me away. The hush puppies were really dry, for me at least. The staff were nice and efficient, and multiple asked me if I needed anything as they walked around. All in all, a wonderful experience and I'll definitely be back! Can't wait to try brunch!

You enter the building and then turn left to formally enter the Knucklehead space. It's a little tricky if the line forms as it either block the drink machine or has to weave into the entry area. The order process is easy and the menu simple enough with classic and a few more unusual items. Your meat is cut and plate is assembled right in front of you which is always a nice touch. I ordered the Brisket plate with baked beans and mac and cheese and a soda. The total was $27, a little over $30 with a tip. No cheap but there was a really healthy portion of meat and sides on the tray. I'm a sauce guy so I sampled all that they offered. House was good. I didn't think the spicy was especially hot. The white knuckle is interesting. With the brisket, I think I liked the vinegar based sauce the best. The brisket slices were thick with a little bit of the burnt end and some fat. All the best parts if you ask me. The mac and cheese looked great and had a bread crumbs sprinkled on top. I thought the flavor was just ok. Maybe more salt or a more flavorful cheese. I just didn't taste much. On the other hand, the baked beans were awesome. Sweet with what I think I identified as a yellow mustard-vinegary flavor. I love those. Knuckleheads is a cool spot and I hope they continue to thrive in Mebane.

I was excited but not surprised because they normally have really good deals and random sales. Well on this occasion I go to pay for them and the lady at the register say this is a really good deal. The lady behind her (older lady) say what and the lady who is assisting me said well I am not sure this is right. The older lady walk over and say not this isn't. She said the should be the price of the legs not wings. She then took all the wings out of my cart and said he can't have them. Called someone from the back gave them the wings and said "he trying to get them for the price of legs. This isn't right take them back." She never told me the price they should of been and never gave me an opportunity to pay the correct price. I asked for the right price and she yelled "2.99 but he should have known that wasn't the right price. ". Referring to me as if I put the price on the meat. I am now debating if I would return to this location. I felt embarrassed and if they felt I was trying to still t from them. I rushed out after paying for the rest of my items yet to return.
