I ordered the barbecue and chicken combo plate here, I specified dark chicken but they gave me white. Chicken was super salty. The barbecue had very little flavor. I'll give them extra points for being clean but the food is lackluster. I would say the smithfields across the street probably has much better food for less money. Oh and despite this place being set up like a fast food restaurant where you order at a counter, they ask for a tip during checkout

#4 Combination #4. BBQ, Chicken, Ribs and Stew Combination Plate

I think this is my first time stopping in North Carolina for food; driving through the state for a trip. Saw advertisement for this place along the highway the last few dozen miles, and thought "I've never tried Carolina bbq.. sure why not" Absolutely mid. Meh. If I'm ever driving through again, won't try a different location. Ordered a #4 combo plate to try their "brosted chicken"(fried), 3 ribs, some sorta stew that had pulled pork in it, and pulled pork. No smoke flavor, the meat felt and tasted like it was baked/steamed, then covered with a tangy sauce to make up for the lack of flavor. Stew was served below lukewarm, ribs came off bone but were bland and chewy covered in a syrupy sauce , coleslaw was vinegar based cabbage-only meh, the chicken was alright.. Overall meh. I'm surprised they had awards from 98-'08 posted they were voted best BBQ. Maybe back when it was all made on an actual smoker before I blew into a chain? But absolutely disappointing and unimpressionable. It be like that tho .

We decided to stop on our trip for lunch. I am thankful I didn't read the negative reviews before coming in because they were wrong. The staff amazingly welcoming. The girl at the counter was super friendly and was patient when we weren't sure what to order. The restaurant was very clean and neat. The food was good. The kids meal was a decent portion and the chicken wasn't the typical frozen tenders. It was actual fresh chicken and came with hush puppies and fries. Both sides were very tasty, fresh and hot. The max and cheese was very good consistency. My spouse had the pulled pork and he said it was alright. For his taste it was a little too mushy and lacked structure. The sauce was tasty and typical Carolina bbq. I would stop again. Spouse would probably try a different main menu item

Right texture and good portion. Ribs are beautifully cooked to perfection. Season very well. Good smoke ring on meat. I paired it with the bbq sauce which was sweet and tangy. Very good ribs. The portion was perfect. Next time I will go with one meat Va two meats since the portions are generous. Hush puppies were pretty good. I like the fact they made a center indentation to make sure they are throughly cooked. The flavor was just right not overly cooked or salty. More of a sweet batter taste. The customer service was pretty good. Really fast service and they move that line pretty quickly. Over all it's a good choice for Carolina BBQ. I will definitely come again and try something new next time around.

I'll preface my review by saying I really tried to not compare this to other extremely prominent smokehouses in other states like Texas, for example (Terry Black's), but admittedly I did a little of that. So with that being said, on its own without comparison I give it a 5/5, when compared with TB's, 4/5. Let's dive in! The spot itself is super cool, I love the stacked wood at the counter. I also love how open it is, plenty of seating (including bar, especially nice if you're solo like I was), plus the self-serve nature of everything. There's a sauce (their homemade sauce is tasty!) and hand wash station, and boxes are readily available to grab. The market itself is worth the visit! Wonderful inventory and great prices, too! Ordering was easy (I'd pre-stalked the menu) and there are tons of options. I went with the 2 meats/2 sides option and got brisket, sausage, mac & cheese with bacon, and yams ($26 after tip). The meat was really the star of the show, that brisket is so tender and melts in your mouth...yum. The sausage had great flavor, though I do want to try their occasional jalapeno & cheddar version. The sides were a bit lackluster for me. The M&C definitely needed some creaminess, and the yams while good didn't blow me away. The hush puppies were really dry, for me at least. The staff were nice and efficient, and multiple asked me if I needed anything as they walked around. All in all, a wonderful experience and I'll definitely be back! Can't wait to try brunch!

You enter the building and then turn left to formally enter the Knucklehead space. It's a little tricky if the line forms as it either block the drink machine or has to weave into the entry area. The order process is easy and the menu simple enough with classic and a few more unusual items. Your meat is cut and plate is assembled right in front of you which is always a nice touch. I ordered the Brisket plate with baked beans and mac and cheese and a soda. The total was $27, a little over $30 with a tip. No cheap but there was a really healthy portion of meat and sides on the tray. I'm a sauce guy so I sampled all that they offered. House was good. I didn't think the spicy was especially hot. The white knuckle is interesting. With the brisket, I think I liked the vinegar based sauce the best. The brisket slices were thick with a little bit of the burnt end and some fat. All the best parts if you ask me. The mac and cheese looked great and had a bread crumbs sprinkled on top. I thought the flavor was just ok. Maybe more salt or a more flavorful cheese. I just didn't taste much. On the other hand, the baked beans were awesome. Sweet with what I think I identified as a yellow mustard-vinegary flavor. I love those. Knuckleheads is a cool spot and I hope they continue to thrive in Mebane.

We were sat within 15 to 20 minutes, with a party of 10 which is pretty freaking awesome. We started with some beers, waters, Diet Coke, and a few cocktails. We also tried the fried pickles which were pickled spears crispy, tasty, and light unfortunately though the coating kept fell off a lot, and that was a little annoying. The dipping sauce I believe a homemade ranch was good. Everyone basically ordered a plate which consisted of a meat of your choice two sides, and hush puppies. Overall, the food was tasty. The brisket was juicy. The pork was eaten up by all, and the hush puppies were crispy. The only issue would be the sides were OK. The french fries were good. The collards were raved about the corn pudding was OK and the green beans were tasty. I'd say this is a place to try. It's definitely a little bit of down home feel with comfort bites.

He was hungry. My chips were over done, the mac n cheese was greasy and slightly clumpy. The ribs were tender, but somewhat mushy, and not super flavorful. I WOULD like to give it another try, hopefully it will be better next time.

Most places put a pepper symbol and it's not spicy at all, but this single red pepper symbol means business!!!!!! I'm sensitive to spice at the moment so eating my food was a bit of a marathon....but in a good way! Think runny nose & sweating hot with tons of delicious flavor. To start, we served wonton strips with a white yum yum type sauce which was a nice surprise. For our app we had the crab puffs (crab ragoons) which of course were not spicy, perfectly crispy and had the right amount of filling. I also ordered a dragon roll which came out after my main entree since the sushi bar was backed up. This actually worked out perfect because the cream cheese in the roll was a great way to calm the spice in my main entree. The mango and crab on the roll were very fresh, and the size was also pretty hefty for being an 8 piece roll. I could have easily made this into a lighter full meal. For my main entree I got the spicy basil with chicken (red pepper sign alert!!!), brown rice and miso soup. The miso soup was good as expected, the brown rice was cooked to perfection and served in a side bowl, and the main entree was plentiful with perfectly cooked veggies & chicken! This dish brought the heat but in a very good way!!! I couldn't get enough of that spicy basil flavor!!!! I only ate half the dish so looking forward to a delicious lunch today! But this Lo Mein is the worst I've ever tasted unfortunately. The noodles were mushy and overcooked. The "sauce" basically tasted like oily vegetable broth. I can't tell if this was cooked in a microwave or an actual wok because there's no caramelization of any flavors. Nearly $20 for this dish on top of that. A lot of locals prioritize this place over other smaller Asian options here in Mebane but I'm not certain if I'd return for anything based on this waste of money.
