The portion was perfect. Next time I will go with one meat Va two meats since the portions are generous. Hush puppies were pretty good. I like the fact they made a center indentation to make sure they are throughly cooked. The flavor was just right not overly cooked or salty. More of a sweet batter taste. I'm so excited I finally got out to try SAS! I had no idea it was a restaurant AND a market - I know, I must have been living under a rock, but how cool! I'll preface my review by saying I really tried to not compare this to other extremely prominent smokehouses in other states like Texas, for example (Terry Black's), but admittedly I did a little of that. So with that being said, on its own without comparison I give it a 5/5, when compared with TB's, 4/5. Let's dive in! The spot itself is super cool, I love the stacked wood at the counter. I also love how open it is, plenty of seating (including bar, especially nice if you're solo like I was), plus the self-serve nature of everything. There's a sauce (their homemade sauce is tasty!) and hand wash station, and boxes are readily available to grab. The market itself is worth the visit! Wonderful inventory and great prices, too! Ordering was easy (I'd pre-stalked the menu) and there are tons of options. I went with the 2 meats/2 sides option and got brisket, sausage, mac & cheese with bacon, and yams ($26 after tip). The meat was really the star of the show, that brisket is so tender and melts in your mouth...yum. The sausage had great flavor, though I do want to try their occasional jalapeno & cheddar version. The sides were a bit lackluster for me. The M&C definitely needed some creaminess, and the yams while good didn't blow me away. The hush puppies were really dry, for me at least. The staff were nice and efficient, and multiple asked me if I needed anything as they walked around. All in all, a wonderful experience and I'll definitely be back! The owner and staff are friendly and the establishment has a welcoming, open feel. The ambiance is laid back with an open kitchen. They now serve some alcohol options if you're feeling a beverage with your meal. The ordering is easy with several combination options. The banana pudding is an absolute must!!! They have a few tables inside for seating as well as a covered patio. There is a section for freshly sliced deli meat and prepared food options for take away. There is so much they offer in addition to the incredible food. It is attached to Steve's Garden Market that has freshly butchered meat and locally sourced produce at a very fair price. Met a work colleague here for a quick lunch meeting. This place is located very close to downtown Graham, which is probably why it was so busy on a Monday at lunch. That being said we ordered and our food came out quickly. They had some appealing specials but I went with a classic brisket sandwich, which I've actually never had before. I was impressed! Their meat is very tender. The sandwich comes with your choice of a side. I went with the cucumber salad, which was actually different from the fresh pickles on the sandwich. Both delightfully tangy. Add in the choice of bbq sauce on the table - I went with mustard based - and it was a delightful meal. One side is a full on Smokehouse restaurant, the other side is a market where you can buy fresh produce, meat, seafood, frozen food, baked goods, beer, etc! They have a lot of items to choose from. This review will be about the smokehouse. Came here on a Saturday afternoon around brunch time (1ish) and no long lines but noticed they had a brunch menu as well as their regular lunch/dinner menu! They had indoor seating as well as outdoor seating! The woman who rung us up was very helpful & friendly! We ordered 2 meats & 2 sides tray. One was with brisket ($4 extra) & chopped pork (BBQ as folks in the south call it) with coleslaw & greens. The other was 1/2 chicken (juicy & crispy skin) & fried oysters ($2 extra) with fries & greens. The tops in both trays, DELICIOUS. The brisket is a MUST. Highly recommend. The hush puppies were soooo good! I can eat a tray full of them. The place was clean they had bbq sauce, hot sauce, ketchup, & honey mustard for condiments. We ordered their coconut guava margaritas . Very good and not too sweet. Just wish they were a little stronger. Overall we will be coming back to try other items on the menu! Read the whole thing. I'm not from here and the locals obviously love this place. The first thing I see is a guy out front making mimosas. He's standing there with gloves on but hugs a dozen people and constantly touching his face with the same gloves he's "crafting" with. I watched the regular kitchen staff up front and they seemed to be more careful, so I braved forward. I got the brisket Benedict. The brisket had obviously been cooked properly but was cold. The eggs were cooked perfectly but the hollandaise was bland, just criminal. The biscuit that everything was served on was hard as a rock. It was exceptionally busy but I think the locals are so busy socializing that they don't notice the subpar presentation. Super nice staff though. read more

How have I not been here sooner?! Smokehouse at Steve's has been recommended multiple times by many friends, and I finally got the chance to try it. It did not disappoint! Everything from the customer service to the food was splendid. Even before you walk in, you're greeted with the wonderful smell of BBQ and smoke. You walk in, order at the counter, find a table, and they call out your name once your food is ready. Although the restaurant was busy, the food came out quickly. We ordered from the brunch menu and chose the chicken and waffles, which were delicious. The brisket also sounded tempting, so I'll definitely be returning to try that--and their BBQ as well. If you're going on the weekend be aware you can only order off the brunch before 11AM, then you can also get stuff off the regular menu. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Plus, there's a nice little bar that's a continuation of the counter, where you order on the side, and they also have some beers on tap along with cocktails. After I perused the market, looking at the various foods and dry rubs and sauces available. I ordered the two meat plate with the smoked turkey breast and the prime brisket. For sides, I ordered collard greens, which I always check at BBQ spots, and fries. They also gave me some some hush puppies too. The turkey wasn't that smoked, but was very moist. The brisket was tasty. Fries were average. The hush puppies were dry and bland. Thank goodness they have a couple of sauces, available, honey mustard, and sweet barbecue, which I dipped the fries and puppies in. For place connected to a grocery store where they're trying to sell a lot of their sauces you want. I thought they have more than two available for patrons. Went for the brisket burnt ends special yesterday and they were really good, nice juicy chunks covered in a Cheerwine bbq sauce, which was ok but a little heavy on the sweetness. Their house-made fries are always great, as is the mac & cheese. Not a big fan of the hushpuppies tho, they were kind of big and the center wasn't quite done, but still tasted pretty good. The weekend brunch is the deal tho, brisket benedict is amazing, and my mom loves the shrimp and grits. Atmosphere is nothing special, but what you might expect from counter service. I have tried the chopped pork and brisket. Both meats were perfectly cooked and tender. The sides, I have tried the mac and cheese with and without bacon, very good. The french fries are hand cut, but both times were not very hot, which brings them down slightly. The hush puppies are light and airy and if they do not suggest it, ask for the butter. You pay a little extra but enhances the flavor quite a bit. Drinks are sodas or tea, self service. Offer different condiments to enhance the food. The price is reasonable for the quantity of food you receive. I will be going back again! read more

One of the first new restaurants that I visited when I moved back to North Carolina last year. Was craving some good barbecue that was close to me and this place came up. I've been here several times since then, they have many good items that you can choose from. My favorite item is the brisket, best item on the menu. It's very soft and tender. I've also had the ribs and sausage. Both were very delicious. The fries are great as well, if you like hand cut style you'll really enjoy these. Collard Greens and hush puppies are also very good choices. The portion sizes for both the meats and the sides are great. My only gripe I'd say would be for the brisket sandwich. I was expecting it to be sliced brisket like they give when you order the individual meats. The menu up top inside doesn't specify if it's sliced or chopped. They give you so much meat and it sort of makes it more difficult to eat without a good chunk of the brisket falling out. Good thing I had a fork to grab the fallen soldiers and take care of them lol. It's not at all a deterrent for me whether or not to go back here.. I will definitely be back, just know that I should just get the sliced brisket by itself for my preference rather than the sandwich. This place is definitely worth a visit to get your barbecue needs. It's been 5 years since I wrote my review of Steve's and it feels long overdue for an update. Since moving to Graham back in 2020, my husband and I have made Steve's one of our top three most frequently visited local restaurants (the other two are Daily Donuts and The Root a few miles away in Elon). Steve's barbecue and smoked chicken are great but recently we've been especially loving their deli sandwiches! The meats and cheeses are sliced fresh and made to order, but their online ordering system makes it a breeze to order ahead and take it to go. Most of the sandwiches are huge and if you order online you can order half of a sandwich and save a little money (or save the second half for later, which is what I usually do). My favorites are their chicken salad sandwich, the turkey bacon club, and the BLT. My husband is a big fan of the cubano. Any of these would be perfect to take on a picnic now that it is Spring - might I suggest you make an afternoon of it and visit the Burlington City Park or Graham Regional Park (both are fun for kids and easy to walk around). Smokehouse at Steve's is always adding new, creative menu items to their smokehouse and deli menus. And if you give them a follow on social media, at the beginning of each week they post their daily specials. If you like burnt ends, their burnt end sandwiches on Wednesdays are worth the stop! read more

This is a cool restaurant, it's attached to an old-time grocery store. The prices are really good, but I wasn't super impressed with what I ordered. I got the two meat and two side meal for $16. I got the ribs and the half chicken along with scalloped potatoes and mac and cheese. The two sides were okay, definitely nothing special. I like the scalloped potatoes more though. My big issue was with the meats. When I order meat like this at a barbecue place I expect it to have real smoke flavor and be fall off the bone tender, that was definitely not the case here unfortunately. Wow, what an experience! We were in the area on a Sunday and my wife as she usually does found Smokehouse at Steve's. We both love good BBQ and all the delicious sides so we decided to stop in. Since many restaurants are closed on Sunday we had our fingers crossed that the hours on Yelp and Google were accurate. We arrived at the parking lot and saw the sign and old rusty truck (advertising piece) in the parking lot first. The parking lot had a good amount of activity and we found a place to park. We immediately learned the Smokehouse is connected to Steve's Garden Market and we were excited to check that out as well. We arrived about noon on Sunday and they were offering a brunch menu along with their standard menu which is displayed behind the counter. My wife and I instantly fell in love with the overall feel of Steve's, it's industrial and rustic but appears to be well taken care of and well loved. We perused the brunch menu while standing in line and ultimately decided to order from their regular menu. My wife ordered the one meat plate with two sides and chose collards and slaw. She was going to order hushpuppies as one of her sides until the woman helping us told her she would receive three hushpuppies with her meal already. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with macaroni and cheese and a side order of hushpuppies for us to share. We chose a table and filled our drink cups while we waited for our name to be called and collected our utensils, napkins, barbecue sauce, etc. Our order was ready in a matter of minutes and looked absolutely delicious! I was busy taking pictures of our meals when my wife noticed the sign for chilled honey butter at the counter and went up to get some for the hushpuppies. I quickly decided I needed to try it as well, and I'm so glad I did. Wow - the hushpuppies by themselves were incredible but when we added the honey butter, it was sublime, foodie heaven! Before we left I ordered a side of hushpuppies to-go with some honey butter to enjoy with my lunches at work. As we enjoyed our meals we discussed how Steve's needs to be a stop when we have friends and family visiting. It is a destination restaurant no question. We also talked about the fact that we are in the Burlington area at least once a month and how we need to incorporate Steve's into our trips to the area. (Note, the address is Graham but Steve's is located just a couple of minutes from Interstate 40 and the Maple Avenue exit in Burlington). After eating we walked around Steve's Garden Market which is attached. Inside they transition from one to the other seamlessly. We also saw a deli counter area where you can order sandwiches and other deli style items. We believe they also have a butcher area where customers can purchase various meats. In addition, there are snack items, wine, beer, seafood, canned goods and fresh fruits and vegetables. This is also a great place to pick up various food items made in North Carolina. I hope we just came on an off night, but the meat wasn't as great as it should have been. Our visit to Steve's Smokehouse (which I'm kind of amazed how far they've come since coming here getting produce as a small kid with the fam) was good for the most part. The sides, wonderful - hush puppies were seasoned and fried perfectly, Mac and cheese had great flavor and they have a big portion of potato salad. The meats...fell flat for us. My brisket was pretty dry and didn't have that smoke flavor I was anticipating. The ribs were essentially the same. My brother in law, who's a much bigger bbq connoisseur than me, had the same sentiment. My father in law enjoyed his meal though. For the most part I'd still continue. I love Smokehouse at Steve's. I've had barbecue in a number of places across several states from California to Oklahoma, Tennessee to Virginia, Texas and more. From them all, this place is one that hits a specific craving and hankering.. and then it's followed by pure bliss when I finally get to eat here. It could be their unique sweet sauce, or maybe the delicious prime brisket. Maybe it's the mustard-type sauce with the country sausage. I'm thinking the cheesy scalloped potatoes are part of it. It could be their perfect hush puppies that soak up that saucy flavor. Oooor, its the tangy purple pickled onions that serve as a contrast. I can't put my finger on it, other than the entire tray experience from start to finish is as memorable as it was the first time I ate here years ago. Love the service, and the ambience. It's spacious inside, with a nice southern touch. My go-to is the two meat and two sides tray loaded up with brisket and sausage. Mac n cheese, and scalloped potatoes. Was very happy to find this BBQ place on the way to the Tanger Outlet Mall. It's unique in that the restaurant is connected to a Grocery Market, and offers some BBQ sauces and merchandise, as well as fruit vegetables etc When you enter, the menu I options are allow you to get either the sandwich or what I presume is either a NC or southern custom of selecting a meat option + 2 sides. As simple as their menu was laid out, and it is very straightforward, I was a bit confused, as it was my first time understanding the menu. Feeling a little nervous, I ended up over thinking the ordering process -- imagining Seinfeld "Soup Nazi" in my head. The restaurant ambience is low key, and they have outdoor seating as well. You place your order and then go get a table. It's mostly self service, so it's great that you can order and eat, and then be on your way! Food wise, the BBQ was wonderful along with the hush puppies and slaw. I was a bit taken aback with the meat added to the baked beans, my family was not expecting that. We also ordered collard greens for one of our sides. I'm not a fan of it in general, but my family enjoyed it very much! It's reasonably priced for the quality of food. Love, love, love it! Although I love barbecue, it's oftentimes hard for me to enjoy it because the bar has been set so high for what is good barbecue. I was working in the area and after talking to a few people rave about Steve's, I knew it was a must try before I left. I got my food to go and one thing that surprised me was that everything was fresh and hot. I got the pulled pork, smoked wings, Mac and cheese, and fries. What I enjoyed most is having the sauce on the side. I enjoy the smoked taste of barbecue so being able to taste that flavor without muddling it down in sauce is really key to a good barbecue experience for me. The staff offered suggestions, which of course is always a plus for me. I also love that there's a grocery store attached with many local items. I purchased dill pickle pretzels and pimento popcorn which were great too! Ranging from apparel, wine to food. The ambiance is relaxed and it makes you feel at home. Now to the food! Everything I've had thus far has been a 10/10! Some of the best BBQ I've had! Came in early on a Saturday afternoon before going to the outlets and we were able to walk straight up but by noon the line was pretty long made up of small groups/families. All the employees were nice but didn't warn us how much food we would be getting! The man taking our orders was patience gave us side recommendations and what his favorite items were. The woman taking payment was very friendly and let us add a last minute banana pudding and made sure we had everything we needed for our leftovers at the end of our meal. We placed two orders and a to go order to take to someone and the to go order was packaged very well and enjoyed. The wings are newish. They season them different and they are very well seasoned and flavorful with a hint of the Smokey taste to them. The brisket wasn't my favorite but everyone enjoyed it. It's very tender but not as fatty which I actually like for the moistness. The ribs were amazing. I don't usually get ribs from bbq places but I'm so happy I did! They were good by themselves but even better with the bbq sauce from the sauce station. The doughnuts were sweet and great with the apple butter. The hush puppies were flavorful and fluffy and you could taste they were cooked with honey butter. The cucumber salad was my favorite and is a large portion that we could have probably shared since it wouldn't travel well. The macaroni and cheese was also good. The people with me also enjoyed the pork, banana pudding, corn, potato salad, and sausage w/ the bbq mustard. I am blown away by the service. I had the Prime Rib special and Lord have mercy, it was amazing. Perfectly cooked medium, with a Gorgonzola butter and au jus. Juicy and delicious I chose to pair it with the scalloped potatoes, and slaw both of them were so good. My husband chose the meat and two, the corn is cooked in the husk which is the best way to make it. The mac and cheese was yummy as well. The hush puppies deserve an entire review all their own. Friday 9/12/25 Had two meats (Wings and ribs) Two sides (slaw and scalloped potatoes) Wings were huge, fresh, juicy and delicious. The right amount of smoke and sauce. Excellent. Ribs were 1/2 really good and 1/2 ok. I think I got 1/2 old (very dry) and 1/2 newer (good smoke, a touch tough). They were not on par either the wings.
