Not the greatest of food stops around Burlington but this one is a staple in town. It's fine. When I do go I usually sit at the bar. The ladies that work back there are awesome make a great espresso martini. I will say their crème brûlée is really good. The food for me is about average. This is at the brand newly opened location on church street, not the old one on Huffman mill. Waited a couple minutes to be seated. There was an employee there chit chatting with a customer while we waited. She then walked away and said someone would be with us shortly. The stand was unattended and we weren't even sure we were in the correct spot. The opposite lot was full so we parked on the south side and thankfully got it right. It would be helpful to mark the entrance in case we parked the opposite side. The turn in going south has one turn on the opposite end. Plenty of parking. The place looks brand new: nice decor. Server Chelsea was very nice and helpful. She got a chicken pasta Alfredo and I got a shrimp and crab cake sandwich. The pasta was way overdone and mushy. It was even very watery. The chicken was sweet. Sweet chicken and Alfredo was pretty terrible. They said all the chicken has the sweet marinade. They should have specified that on the menu because we would have never ordered sweet chicken especially not with Alfredo sauce. The dish in my opinion was pretty bad. I would give that a 1.5/5. Mine was decent. I liked the dill sauce. The bun was sweet and small for the patty but it was ok. The fries were over salted but they came out piping hot and fresh. Would I eat there again? Probably not. It's a small menu with a lot of chicken dishes. Their signature sweet chicken sauce was a turn off for both of us. It was reasonably priced and the server was nice. Overall I have to give the place a 3.5/5. The waiting when we went in and having ro listen to an employee chatting with her friend was off putting while we waited. Had she acknowledged and said someone was coming would have been fine but she completely ignored us until she finished her conversation before saying anything and that was a good 2-3 minutes. Another Great Meal at Village Tavern! Village Tavern is my favorite restaurant and I have reviewed it a number of times. I won't go into great detail today... I got my usual crab cake but switched up the sides. As sides, I ordered fresh sautéed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes. The spinach was delicious and I will definitely order it in future. The potatoes were not a favorite. They tasted like instant. The manager came out and stopped by each table. My husband asked if the potatoes were instant, and she said, "definitely not". She went on to tell him she'd take him to the kitchen to see, and they had someone constantly peeling potatoes. Regardless, they taste powdery. Our service was very good. The atmosphere is very nice. Stopped here for a Sunday brunch while visiting Burlington. The restaurant was very busy; we were quoted 25 minutes before our table was ready, so we went to the bar to wait. Stopped by while on the road, just passing through town. I was craving shrimp and grits and being in/near the South, I figured now was as good a time as any to stop and grab some! Found this little spot and ordered their shrimp and grits to-go (sorry for the poor presentation/composition of the picture) and enjoyed it while on the road, driving (a difficult feat, to say the least). My husband inquired about key west chicken so she let us try the marinade. I was dead set on steak until I tasted the marinade and changed my order. It was so good!!! We ordered the crab and shrimp dip for an appetizer. The pita chips with it were perfect. It was well seasoned and very rich. I got a side Caesar salad, which was good! The croutons are homemade which made it even better than just a plain normal Caesar. My husband got the key west chicken breast with some sort of potato chip and broccoli. He loved his! The potatoes were right up his alley, the broccoli was good and not just plain, and the chicken was great. I had the key west chicken Alfredo. The Alfredo was perfect--not too goopy or over sauced. The chicken and marinade cut through the fat in the dish which made it better than what you might get in a jar. The standout was the key lime pie! We split a piece because we were full but honestly I would have made myself sick to eat a piece by myself. Our waitress was great!
