I have to say, I love their chicken and BBQ. The two times I've gone the food has been made to order, hot, fresh and fried to perfection. The service is always friendly. I am giving it four stars because each time I have gone with friends there is mention of how the restaurant reminds them of segregation in the 60's. It does give a slight boycott vibe that doesn't sit well, and makes me question my support. Have to be honest. read more

My final trip. I got my bag and my the time I picked it up the bottom fell out bc the Cole slaw and Mounds of it spilled out bc it was thrown inside the plate instead of being covered.. let's talk shrimp! How pathetic they looked not even popcorn shrimp more like salad shrimp! I should've gone to Crab and Catch! I will NEVER EVER return! read more

Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q - Dining room - American Near Me - Burlington, North Carolina

Location is nice, clean, and the staff was above and beyond the norm friendly. Food is always good- if you're looking for the best in N.C. BBQ, short answer this isn't it. There are dozens of better spots, but also there are many worse options as well. As a note for those unfamiliar with N.C. BBQ- this is "eastern" style, featuring pulled pork and primarily flavored with vinegar and red pepper. read more

The decor, service and location are spot on. Sadly the food makes KFC seem gourmet as it is greasy and tasteless

We finally tried this restaurant. While I was expecting a variety of pork selections, this restaurant offers bbq pork, fried chicken and shrimp selections. Hushpuppies are sweet with minimal seasoning. Pork is vinegar based. Coleslaw is roughly chopped slightly vinegary but nothing overpowering. Definitely will be back. I'm read more

What a pleasant visit to Smithfield's today! I was greeted when I walked in the door. My food was delivered quickly and it was delicious. Every guest was greeted with the same "welcome to Smithfield's - how are you today?" The restaurant was exceptionally clean and I was also checked on during my meal. This type of customer service now a days is so rare...so I had to give kudos to the Burlington NC team! Way to go and keep up the good work read more

I have a huge appreciation for all thing Smithfield. So heck this place must be the bomb. Well I was wrong. The chicken was not on the same plane as KFC, and that sets the bar low. The sides were basically Publix salads, the bake beans were good. For the price it's not worth it. The lady bringing out the food was as pleasant as a Troll. And it's a self serve place. Just Blah! Make the trip to Zaxby's next exit east. read more

Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q - Dark meat chicken plate with potatoe salad, cole slaw, huss puppies, and added a portion of baked beans. - American Near Me - Burlington, North Carolina

Absolutely disappointing! The portion sizes were smaller than expected for the price. The BBQ chicken was incredibly small, slimy, cold, and I'm pretty certain it was just fried chicken that they had soaked in BBQ sauce. I've had grocery store potato salad that was better. It was too sweet and just mush. The pulled pork comes dry, and you have to request sauce if you want it. The banana pudding doesn't have bananas in it, and the pecan pie is prepackaged individual slices is Sara Lee pie. When Smithfield's was a small, local place it was very very good. I believe they've grown too much too fast, and now the quality of their product suffers. read more

Stopped in for a quick dinner. My first visit to Smithfield's. I chose a BBQ Sandwich with coleslaw and fries. You place your order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Service was quick and the food was hot. The manager came by the table to check on things. He was so personable and friendly. Explained that all the BBQ is cooked on site fresh daily. The sauce i chose was vinegar base and it was good. They also have fried chicken or you can get a combination tray with both. This location was extremely clean. It is located right off I85 for quick and easy in and out. I will return again. read more

Horrible service and food. Ordered online and stated 20 minutes for pick up time. Went 25 minutes later only to discover that they hadn't even started our order yet. When inquired, I was told the kitchen was backed up and would get to me eventually. Eventually?!?! 20 more minutes later and second request to get my order, was told "you keep asking the same question but nothing is gonna change" 55 minutes later got my food and got home to food missing and chicken that been left in the oil for God knows how long. Horrible food and service. read more

Stopped here to eat last week because school finally started in my county so while paying Spectrum I went for lunch here. Usually Smithfield's is the joint! This time for lunch the chicken was hard as h--, darker than me, the grease obviously needed changing and the taste was sooooo salty I had to drink about a half gallon of water later plus that good sweet tea to remove it from my body. Sometimes here it can be a hit or miss. It missed on the chicken omg! The manager on duty very friendly, by the time I got ready to leave more customers came in so I didn't complain I just eased out the door. The rest of the food was good; potato salad, hush puppies, Brunswick stew was good but Luke warm. Atmosphere is always nice. Just TV was a tad bit loud on that day. I do like the food just want to get my $12.00 worth of all goodness not some. read more

Chicken tasted like old grease. Manager acted like I was bothering him to ask for butter. Very unlike most Smithfield's but I would never go there again read more

I was out running errands and my wife told me she had ordered bbq to pick up at the drive thru. I couldn't pay for it at the drive thru. Had to park go inside and pay. I know first world issues but the smirk on the face when the employee told me this set me off. Why didn't she just walk to the other side of the wall and ring it up? This location just doesn't have its act together third time we tried and third time we left muttering that we should have gone somewhere else. read more

Best BBQ and chicken. Old style eastern NC style que (vinegar based with red pepper flake). Always hot and delicious. Fixing are off chart. The chicken is well seasoned and breading is thick. Every time, the consistency is never off. The Burlington location is the best of all of the locations. When we visit family, this a must stopped for us. read more

Stopped here on the way home from a road trip. The inside was very clean and spacious. I ordered dark chicken with baked beans and sweet tea. The tea wasn't as sweet to my liking and the chicken was greasy. It put me in the mind of Bojangles. The beans and hush puppies were great and my husband's potato salad and coleslaw was good also. I would be willing to give them a try again, possibly choosing something different from the menu. read more

I stopped in after shopping with my sister her friend and my daughter. I haven't enjoyed Smithfield's in years. The cashier was patient and friendly. We found a table and the food was bought out to us. Several employees came around and gave refills and checked to see if we were okay. I was shocked by how well we were taken care of. Morgan was one of my favorite. I loved her beautiful southern accent and great customer service. I ordered a combination plate with chicken, barbecue, cole slaw and baked beans. My food was cooked to perfection and my hush puppies were sweet and delicious. If you're in Burlington shopping at The Alamance Crossing Shopping Center you should definitely stop here! read more

I'm so happy all the Smithfield locations are consistent in service & the taste of their food. I came to this location, to meet a friend, who was driving through on vacation. Placing the order was a breeze. On this visit, I just got a BBQ sandwich (with slaw) & a sweet tea. My food arrived in no time. I like that they bring the food out to your table. Taste & temperature were perfect. Their prices are great! Their menu features plenty of choices of BBQ, chicken & sides. Their hushpuppies are tasty! The restaurant is a good size. There is ample parking & easy to get on & off I-85. read more

We had a large group after a soccer tournament. We were looking for somewhere with no wait and we found Smithfield's. The service was fast and friendly! Food was fresh with nice portions. Mr. Waldo was fantastic- even gave us a free pumpkin pie. Definitely recommend read more

The staff is very pleasant and the bathrooms are clean. The food comes out very quickly and as ordered. The sauces they have are akin to a chick-fila-a However the location is hard to get to when coming off the freeway as you have to loop all the way around. The Chicken Plate was actually better then your average Fried Chicken from a Fast Food restaurant. The hush puppies were also pretty good. The Pecan pie was overly sweet. Unfortunately the Fried Shrimp and fries were pretty terrible tasteless and fishy tasting. If you stick to the chicken and dont want to spend a lot then it may be worth a stop in. read more

My girlfriend and I were on the way home from Chapel Hill on Friday, March 24, 2023, and were quite a bit hungry. As we had never been to a Smithfield's before, we divided to give it a try. We are glad that we did. We both ordered the chicken tender sandwich. The sandwich was delicious, the portions generous, and the fries were hot and crispy. Fantastic. What impressed us most of all, though, was the manager. Unfortunately, I don't remember his name. He was funny, engaging, and genuinely seemed to enjoy his job. He joked with us and made us feel at home. He did the same with other customers. Most everyone left that counter with food and a smile on their face. Should we be in the area again, we will be sure to stop by, even if it's to just say hello! read more

When this eastern NC girl in a Lexington bbq world needs her fix, and doesn't have time to drive down to Goldsboro, Greenville or Ayden, this hits the spot. Despite it being a chain, their bbq is good and consistent. This particular location in Burlington has a small covered patio that, when we visited for lunch on a hot but breezy low-humidity July day, was in the shade. The young man who took our order was the same person that delivered our meals was incredibly polite, personable and attentive. Overall a great experience. read more

Clean but food is subpar.. "bbq white chicken platter" expecting pulled white chicken but got a fried breast and fried wing (white meat) slathered in liquidy "bbq" sauce that tastes like Chinese sweet and sour sauce. A guy came out and asked if we wanted a different piece of chicken because they were out of wings then told us it would be an up charge when we said breast. He then tells us we could choose thigh or leg (none of which are white meat). Fries are nothing special. Hush puppies taste like a hush puppy and a funnel cake had a baby. read more

The exterior looked new and clean. Inside it was clean enough, there were plenty of crumbs and stains on the seats that i went in with some wipes before sitting down in a booth. Spacious interior and tables to choose from. Ordered the bbq plate and fried chicken plate. The bbq plate was good. Its just shredded pork picnic or shoulder but on the drier side. I liked the tangy vinegar table bbq as a tableside condiment. Same with the chicken, it was not as juicy and plump that comes from a nice pressure deep fry. But the flavor was there. I liked the bbq beans .. they had tanginess acidity and deep caramel like sweetness. The potato salad was standard ... think any storebought deli section. I thought the hushpuppies were interesting shape as half moons. They were dry as well and didnt taste like much besides cornmeal, had to dip in beans to give some semblance of flavor. read more

I've been coming here once a month ever since this restaurant opened! But after the experience I've had with the drive-through, this will be my last. Only had two people in the drive-through and it took 15 minutes for me to receive my order lucky enough I received the wrong order. I went inside and showed them the receipt and what I have received and they gave me a blank stare for 10 minutes as they try to figure out what happened. I have never spent $17 on a pint of barbecue and fries. Just to receive slaw and hush puppies after it's all said and done I was never told thank you or we're sorry!!!!!! I've worked with the public for the majority of my career, and if I was to give that type of service, I would've been at the door with a pink slip before the end of the shift read more

Smithfield's is by far my favorite place to get eastern Carolina bbq. This location is just as delicious as the rest. I usually go for a bbq sandwich but this time I opted for the fried chicken platter. This includes fried chicken, bbq, hush puppies and two sides of your choice. It was AMAZING. The staff at this location were all so friendly and checked on my multiple times during my meal. It's also a very clean location. I will be back in the near future. read more
