I visited the new location for the first time yesterday. I was excited to hear they had a salad bar, which is always a draw for me. I looked online for photos of it ahead of time, couldn't find any, so once we were seated I got directions to it and checked it out. It is simple and adequate but just not what I was looking for so my friend and I decided to order from the menu instead. We started with sweet tea and unsweet tea. The unsweet was nice, freshly brewed and not bitter in the least. The sweet tea was too sweet for my friend to drink so we had the waitress come back with an unsweet and mixed it half and half. I sipped it prior to the mix and wow, way too much sugar. I ordered the Chicken Pita and fries. The sandwich was delicious but despite having asked for cucumber sauce (you get a choice of ranch or cucumber) there was no sauce on it. The chicken was delicious though and nicely seasoned, plenty of onions, and the pita was fresh. I'm not a big fan of crinkle fries but they were a solid 3, as good as crinkle fries can be in my opinion. My friend ordered chicken pie, fried okra, sweet potato, and cornbread. The chicken pie looked more like chicken ala king, not enticing, and no topping or crust. So odd. The flavor was not good, bland and just odd for something served as chicken pie and in the south. The okra seemed homemade and was good, and the sweet potato was fresh and tasty. The cornbread is sweet cornbread and was moist. I had quite a bit of tea so I visited the restroom before we left. Big mistake. The toilet paper was just a big roll balanced on the handicap rail, the paper towels for drying your hands was the same, and the floors and door going in and out were dirty...as in most likely not cleaned well in quite some time. Will I return? Not sure. There are limited dining places in Burlington that are not fast food so perhaps, but I certainly hope they pay better attention to cleaning going forward. When a public space looks like that restroom, it makes me wonder what the behind-the-scenes spaces look like. read more

Such a cool little diner with an old skool feel to it. Came into Burlington for the day and got hungry. This place seemed good by the reviews. Ordered a double burger with totts. The burger was so good but it definitely was too big for me to finish. The tater tots were cooked perfectly also. The food was great and the service shines here. I can't remember my servers name but she told me that she does real estate on the side. She was excellent and kept checking in. I will definitely return. Food is good. Service really good and super friendly. Danny however is another thing. He was extremely rude to me. You know how when you eat, your nose starts to run? Well I blew my nose. Not a loud snotty sound. More of a wipe. When I got to the register he comes over to me and says "do me a favor and bring that napkin you blew your nose on over to this trash can. This time of the year it's a big enough of a concern without snot. " He tried to get the waitress attention but she had already cleared. If he was really concerned, he should have the waitress wear gloves. I won't go back and we we went a couple of times a month. read more

The first time ever going to Danny's for breakfast and it will be my last. I was taking my boyfriend breakfast while he was working. I got to Danny's 9:09 and I didn't get my food until 9:34. I was 15 minutes late getting him his food on his 30 minute break. His over medium eggs were more like over easy, butter and egg juice leaked out of the container into the bag, the hash browns were put on foil in the to go container so you had to be careful not to eat any, and honestly a restaurant in my hometown is way better. I chose this place in hopes the food would be more fresh and hot when I got out to him because of the 30 minute drive from home to his work. Would have been better taking him cold food from a different restaurant. They don't care about their to go orders like they do if you are eating in the very very small restaurant. I'm not sure what the hype is about this place. I chose them due to the reviews on Google but it wasn't worth it. Price wasn't bad but the food and service wasn't worth it. If you are thinking to go, don't. Just go somewhere else. First impressions last a life time. read more

I've been going there for years but the last 3 or 4 times I've been, the service has been horrible. They never came back to the table to refill our drinks. Had to go up front to the cashier to get a drink to go because they never came back to the table. When we did get the drink to go it was unsweetened tea instead of sweet. My husband never received his toast because they didn't ask him if he wanted biscuit or toast with his meal. I know that it comes with it because like I said before, I've been going there for years. If they would have came back to the table like they should have and asked if there was anything that we needed it wouldn't have been so bad. This was our first visit to Danny's Cafe, but definitely will not be our last! The food was delicious and seasoned very well. The pork chop was tender and juicy and the cucumber salad was light and refreshing. Our server took the time to speak with us for a few minutes, and she went throughly went over the menu and their daily offerings. The prices were really fair too. If your looking for a real café that delivers nothing but the finest southern hospitality NC has to offer, this is the real deal. Yes it is difficult to get a table or a stool at peak times, fortunately the wait shouldn't be to long, this place runs like a fine tuned machine that delivers every order hot and fresh, even the staff eat standing up. It is a family run café, not a waffle house, and everything they serve comes with a flavor of its own. I have only been there twice and the food hasn't bored my taste buds yet, I keep going back for more and look forward to breakfast on my next visit. Our party of three had the country style steak. It is a sampling of good old Southern cooking. The portions were generous and the food well-prepared. Decent little cafe that's in the same area as Zack's and Boston Sandwich Shop in downtown Burlington. This is a small place, maybe 6 booths and some counter seats, that serves the usual sandwiches,salads, some daily plates for lunch and dinner, and also serve breakfast. The burger here is a nice, cafe greasy one with some flavor, and comes with a side for $6.29. The hot dog is average at best, with a thin, sweet, tomato-based chili, and at $3.29, rather pricey, when compared to Zack's or Boston Sandwich, which have much better dogs.. The plates and platters run $6 to $8, and are pretty good. The other sandwiches are middle of the road Service is a little on the slow side, especially at peak times, but not terribly so. read more

Let me start by saying maybe I ordered the wrong thing. The menu placed heavy focus on their hash browns. I ordered the "Loaded": add grilled onions, ham and cheese. These fall under the category of "lazy cooking." If you are selling grilled onions, at least cook them . Mine were in huge chunks and some were almost raw. How difficult is it to throw the ham on the flat top for a quick sear? It was like lunch meat had been cut up and thrown on the top of the hash browns. If it were not for the eggs ( cooked perfectly) this review would be lower. read more

Our guest left asking the name of who catered our wedding. They loved the food and wanted to know where their restaurant was located. From the first contact with Tyler, I knew this was the place for us. He made sure I felt like I was important to him. He heard every detail we wanted. His contact with me throughout our process was just top-notch, 5 star. Tyler and Danny and his staff are the best. Our guest commented on how polite they were the night of the wedding. We have visited their restaurant at least once a week as well. We can not say enough great things about this team of workers. Everyone seemed glad to be there and the waitress on staff that day was super warm and friendly, even though she looked like she might be in a pickle with the crowd. It was definitely greasy spoon but what can you expect with a 4.99 breakfast? Service is great, but space is limited and this is one busy place at peak breakfast and lunch times. Consider eating a little earlier than normal to assure that you have a seat. They also do a ton of takeout business which keeps the grill backed up, so expect a little bit of a wait once you've ordered. All-in-all one of our favorite downtown haunts. Danny's is one of those "hole in the wall", down home, Mom & Pop shops that deliver basic, great All-American fare. I had been here once before with a work colleague and had remembered being here. Can't remember what I had then. But, over New Year's a neighbor who is a recent arrival to Burlington from Georgia mentioned that he had one of the best hamburgers ever at Danny's. So, wife and I decided to go last week. Atmosphere is less than basic. Like a lot of places in Burlington, it probably has not been remodeled since the 1960s (a lot like the older women's hairdo's in town), but don't let that fool you. We both had burgers - me the mushroom Swiss and her the BBQ burger. They were handmade, about 1/3 pound big burgers. We both got fries as a side. Burgers were great, fries OK. Service was great and very attentive and pleasant telling us her opinions of the fare. She was a fan of the burgers, too. Had fountain drinks (endless refills) and bill came to about $18 before tip. Other items on the menu looked good, so in the words of General Douglas MacArthur "I will return." read more

The one big downside is that you will smell like your food when you leave. The food is okay if you want a burger. Depending on what you get you may be sitting for a while, which is a problem if you are in a hurry or eating lunch. All in all it is not bad. I don't go often though. read more

My wife and I ate here when we closed on the Monday after Christmas. Service was top notch. Place was clean, except for some trash on the floor that is to be expected nearing the end of the lunch rush. We both had burgers, she had a mushroom and swiss with grilled onions and I had the 8 ounce "big burger" with tots. Both were good. Like most restaurants around here, they make their own patty, but they do it with no seasoning. I guess it's just an area thing, but I like my burger to have some salt, pepper, garlic, something in the meat before the patty is made. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the price was reasonable even inexpensive. Some of the items seemed a little pricey on the menu, but since I didn't try them, I cannot say. If you're in downtown and want a decent burger, this place has one. I'll stop by there again in the future. read more
