This is the "newest" of the Skid's Restaurants, having only opened in 2003, and it has common ownership with the original Skid's on N. Church Street - and these two are at least several notches above the other two. This location is my favorite - it is bigger, more comfortable, has a drive thru, and the food is excellent. The order is simple here - the Special Cheeseburger Basket (with L, T, & Mayo this time, though I usually go with mustard, chili, and slaw for this one), and a Chili Dog with M, C, & O. This cheeseburger is excellent, a bit bigger than their "regular" burger, and it is as tasty as any diner style burger you'll find. The Chili Dog is every bit the burger's equal. It is a bit on the smallish side (many in the Burlington area are, including Zack's), but it is a flavor dynamo, and there are not many as good as this. The FFs have a great look, and are potentially outstanding, but these were not even close to being well salted - so you end up with a fried, tasteless block of starch - if you're gonna fry'em, salt'em! They serve all 3 meals here, and offer typical small town diner fare at each one, including some lunch special with snap, like the Chicken Pie, and others. As always, know your restaurant, go for what they do well - and this place will not disappoint.

We made same day reservations a few hours in advance because we figured it would get crowded with Elon parents visiting their kids. I'm glad we did because it was packed 15 minutes after we sat down. Hostess was kind with greeting us and sat us down right away when we arrived. My husband ordered the shrimp & grits and I ordered the pancakes with sausage. Food came within 15 minutes. The pancakes were fluffy and the sausage was nicely cooked. Service was great and one of the servers made sure to keep my water glass filled. The Mark at Elon is very pretty inside. They have a private parking lot outside reserved for Inn guests and we were able to park there because we were at the restaurant. I would recommend this place if you have guests in town and want something slightly nicer than your typical breakfast diner. They do serve lunch and dinner here too, but I can't speak on that food just yet. I'll have to return to try it out!

They then had to move us to a bigger table because of the fire hazard the high chair posed. They told us they would move our drinks for us and we were to leave them. They left us sitting at the new table for over 30 minutes without our drinks. They then brought out salads but we had no cutlery to eat with. Finally they brought us some and had to take drink orders again. I felt sorry for the new server who was caught up in this mess with little guidance from her management and did a really great job providing excellent customer service to rectify the dissatisfaction. The Caesar salad was crisp with the right amount of dressing. The Onion Blossom appetizer was delicious and disappeared quickly. The chicken fried steak with Green Beans was delicious and expertly marinated and prepared. All the meals were very good and the quality of the food and the great service from the replacement server earned a 4 star. I recommend this restaurant, all the food is good.

I can't remember our waiter, but he was great. We started with the fried pickles, they were very salty but in a good way. Something you definitely eat while drinking. I had the NY steak cooked to medium and it was cooked to perfection! With a side of broccoli and baked potatoes. I was a little weary when we went to pack up the rest of the fried pickles and under the parchment paper was a French fry. Made me wonder do they wash and clean them or just throw parchment paper in the basket. All in all it was a good visit. I would definitely be back.

This restaurant is run by the same folks as Grill 584 (Koury Corporation, I think), and is under the direction of the chef there, David Katz - who was at the late, lamented Boss Hogg in Greensboro, and some time at Bullock's BBQ in Durham. They are offering an dinner menu that is strong on smoked meats - Hand Pulled Pork (basically Eastern NC style with some nice heat), BBQ Chicken, Smoked Turkey Breast, Texas Style Brisket, and "Smackin Good' St Louis Style Ribs, and a number of nice sides. They offer wine and have a decent beer selection. Only non-BBQ meat on the menu is Fried Chicken Livers - this is a BBQ joint setup. The meats are featured in Take Out Specials - pint of Pork BBQ for $9.95, pound of brisket for $12.95, whole smoked BBQ Chicken for $9.95. Sides are available as well. I've only tried the Pork BBQ, and it is every bit as good as that that was served at Boss Hogg - solid Eastern NC style, with some very nice heat. Looking forward to trying the other meats, especially the Brisket and Chicken. Dinner is Tue - Sat, 5 to 9. They offer a small lunch buffet, Mon thru Friday - 11AM to 2PM, for $7.49, including drink, and small salad bar. The items vary from day to day, but include Fried Chicken (very, very good, if a little salty), Chicken Pot Pie, Country Style Steak, Spaghetti, Baked Chicken, BBQ Pork, BBQ Chicken, Fried Fish (Friday), and Baked Salmon. The meats are pretty good to ordinary - the Fried Chicken is very good, the BBQ Pork is not the style served at night - covered with a sweet, tomato sauce. The veggies are ordinary to plain bad - canned or frozen, and poorly seasoned. But the meats are generally worth the price, as is the salad bar.
