Lavender margarita and Elderflower Guava mimosa
    Sandra H.

My daughter is at Elon University and it took me four years to try this and I'm so glad I did. What a cute place, from the chalkboard menus to games you can take to your table and play to the wooden booths and bar stools. I love the clock that says "Oh My!! Look at the time" and the twelve time slots switch between Tacos, Beer, and Cocktails. They do keep it simple like that but it taste oh so good! Let's start with the cocktails. It was $2 off specialities so I had a Lavender margarita and my daughter an Elderflower Guava Mimosa. Both were terrific but we went back and ordered two more Lavender Margaritas because they were perfection. Tacos - you can order 1 - snack, 2 - light lunch or 3- dinner. We had the shrimp melt and the spicy fried catfish. Definitely a "do over." Everyone seems to have their favorites and I heard a lot of orders for the chicken & waffle taco...Will try that next time. Don't miss adding topped tots as your side. Tator tots topped with Parmesan cheese and a truffle aioli..I mean tots are good alone but add cheese and truffle, even better. We also indulged in the Dis-Dat Nuggets - fried, homemade chicken nuggets in a house sauce that is both spicy and sweet. All of the staff were super nice. How fun to eat tacos, drink great cocktails and play trivia with friends...perfect for a college town.

I literally drove 1 hour 40 minutes both ways for these tacos and I would again and again. The shrimp melt is soooooo freaking good. A mix of crunchy, spicy and sweet?!? Absolute chefs kiss. Coming from Charlotte it is very very very reasonably priced. I also had a strawberry margarita which was good as well. I've been coming here for years and it's stayed consistent. It's casual quick place to get unique tacos! 10000/10.

We came here with company at lunch on Friday because of the yelp reviews. They did not disappoint! Tangent is a relatively small eatery near Elon University which specializes in Asian fusion tacos. Our party ordered a variety of tacos and loved them all. Special mention goes to the roasted pork taco. My wife raved about it. I especially liked the shrimp melt and blackened shrimp tacos. A picture of the menu is attached to this review. They offer a large variety of tacos including vegan and vegetarian options. They also have reasonably priced beer and drinks with daily specials (they are in a college town :) ). We'll be back.

This place is just what we needed and didn't even know it! Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted immediately by a super friendly staff. The menu is posted along the wall as you enter and you order at the counter. We ordered several different tacos. They have about 12 different unique ones to choose from. This is not your typical taco place so be ready for some interesting takes on a tacos. We ordered the Korean beef, catfish, Nashville Hot(and yes, it is that spicy, but so good!), chicken and waffle, friend green tomato and brisket. We shared and sampled all of them. My hands down fav was the catfish. My hubby loved the Korean beef best but the Nashville Hot was good too. The tater tots were so good. Love that truffle aioli. We also got their drink special $3 Ukraine Mules. $3?!! And they were delicious! We can't wait to come back for a visit!

My tea is piping hot and my shrimp spring roll giant and looks so fresh. My service was great you walk in and the waitress will tell you to sit anywhere you like. The restaurant definitely gives sports bar vibe with the decor. My food was amazing. The shrimp spring roll was delicious the veggies super fresh and crispy and the shrimp cooked perfectly and they give sweet chili sauce as the dipping sauce. My vegan Pad Thai was equally as yummy. It's was so flavorful I did feel that my broccoli was way overcooked and hardly any cabbage either. The veggies you get it broccoli, cabbage, carrots, green onion and bean sprouts. Nevertheless the flavor was there noodle were cooked just right. My boyfriend got it right this time and I will definitely be back. I want to try their red curry next time.

Most places put a pepper symbol and it's not spicy at all, but this single red pepper symbol means business!!!!!! I'm sensitive to spice at the moment so eating my food was a bit of a marathon....but in a good way! Think runny nose & sweating hot with tons of delicious flavor. To start, we served wonton strips with a white yum yum type sauce which was a nice surprise. For our app we had the crab puffs (crab ragoons) which of course were not spicy, perfectly crispy and had the right amount of filling. I also ordered a dragon roll which came out after my main entree since the sushi bar was backed up. This actually worked out perfect because the cream cheese in the roll was a great way to calm the spice in my main entree. The mango and crab on the roll were very fresh, and the size was also pretty hefty for being an 8 piece roll. I could have easily made this into a lighter full meal. For my main entree I got the spicy basil with chicken (red pepper sign alert!!!), brown rice and miso soup. The miso soup was good as expected, the brown rice was cooked to perfection and served in a side bowl, and the main entree was plentiful with perfectly cooked veggies & chicken! This dish brought the heat but in a very good way!!! I couldn't get enough of that spicy basil flavor!!!! I only ate half the dish so looking forward to a delicious lunch today! Can't wait to come back and try more of their dishes but while I'm sensitive to spice at the moment I may avoid the pepper symbol for a bit!

They have bento boxes, hibachi, teriyaki, ramen, rice, salads, and other entrees. Also take the spicy symbol seriously. We love spicy so it was great for us but definitely got some menu items that pack a punch. Can't wait to go back!

The idiosyncrasies do not stop with the name. Inside, The Rustic Barn offers an intimate space with low lighting and some interesting décor: random photos of locomotives adorn the wall. The menu skews Thai albeit with some Japanese dishes (gyoza, teriyaki, yaki udon) and a few (a burger, a steak and potatoes) that fit the establishment's rurally suggestive name. The proprietor, Jeb, is gracious and accommodating as well as a showman who likes to joke with his guests. His promise of "everything fresh, everything homemade" is a lot to live up to, but the kitchen here has the chops to deliver on that promise. Our group went with a pair of starters (crab rangoons and gyoza), a pair of curries (roadhouse and green), and a pair of noodle dishes (yaki udon and pad Thai). Everything was attractively plated and delicious. The rangoons were hand-formed into delicate shapes and contained plenty of filling while the gyoza were nice and crisp. My entrée was the roadhouse curry: the house version of Massaman. A hearty dish, it boasted thick-cut vegetables and a rich sauce done to the desired (a little bit spicy) level of heat. Prices are moderate (entrees start in the upper teens), but portions are plenty filling. Given how many Danville restaurants were closed on a Sunday evening, I count myself lucky that The Rustic Barn was not among them. If you come here seeking country cooking, you'll be confused and perhaps disappointed. But if you know what you're getting yourself into, the combination of personable service and tasty food in an offbeat location makes this the epitome of a hidden gem.

Parking couldn't have been easier. We found a space right out front in the lot off 9th Street and walked straight in. It was a quiet Thursday afternoon, so we were seated immediately. The dining room has an elegant, relaxed feel, and with only a few other diners it made for a peaceful lunch. Lunch for two came to about $80 plus tax and tip, making this one of the more upscale lunches we've had recently. We ordered: * Crispy Brussels Sprouts * Shrimp Dumplings (6) * Mongolian Beef * Grilled Lemongrass Hanger Steak Salad * Unsweetened iced tea The Food The Crispy Brussels Sprouts were a great start. They were crisp on the outside without being overcooked, and the mint, peanuts, and pickled onions added both texture and freshness. It was also a large enough portion for leftovers. The Shrimp Dumplings were excellent. The flavor was outstanding, and the Thai chili oil, garlic, scallions, and sesame worked beautifully together. My only criticism was the portion size. At six small dumplings, they felt a little pricey for what you receive. The Mongolian Beef was probably the best value of the meal. The beef had a nice sear while remaining tender inside, and the portion was generous enough that we had leftovers for another meal. It had a nice overall flavor as well. The Grilled Lemongrass Hanger Steak Salad was good, but not quite at the same level. The steak had good flavor, but the cut itself was somewhat chewy. The accompanying rice was simply prepared and didn't add much to the dish. The flavors were enjoyable, although slightly sweeter than my wife prefers. Service Service was excellent. Our server took the time to walk us through each dish, explaining ingredients, spice levels, and preparation so we could choose items that fit our tastes. We especially appreciated her knowledge of the menu and her attentiveness throughout the meal, my iced tea was never empty. Overall Juju offers an attractive setting, excellent service, and several very well-executed dishes. Our biggest challenge was simply that much of the lunch menu leans toward spicier offerings than we typically enjoy. While we probably wouldn't return specifically for lunch, the dinner menu appears to offer a much wider variety of choices that fit our tastes. We'll likely be back to give dinner a try.
