MaGerks is a good Philly Cheesesteak spot in Elon. I'd say equal parts sports-bar, college bar, and family-ish restaurant depending upon the time of day. The food is pretty-dern good and the flatscreens with various athletic contests are plentiful. The inside is bright and energetic befitting its sports-bar / college-kids bar vibe. The service is pretty quick and keeps-up well with the ever-entering patrons. I recommended to catch a game and likely host your college-student children and their friends when visiting from out of town ;) read more

Not sure why my daughter waited 4 years to suggest we eat here. It is bar food but it is good. I read the owners are from Philly and the Philly cheesesteak did not disappoint. I also loved the Cajun fries. We sat on the patio and they were so nice to our puppies. We had just driven in from Nashville and the pups were really wanting water and to be out of the car. The waitress brought both of them their own bowl of water . Of course Ranger got lots of loves too. The nachos looked amazing (huge portions and every table that ordered them ate it all). This cute pub wasn't busy at all around 2pm. Lots of open space / multiple TVs. Waitress ( female started with an A) was very nice. Gave lots of suggestions on drinks and food. Looks like they are known for their cheesesteaks! We ordered cheesesteak appetizers and pretzel bites. Cheesesteak Appetizers were a little dry but I poured a little bit of the cheese from the pretzel bites on it - made it 100 times better. Drinks - Blackberry Lemon Mojitos = Amazing!! Strawberry Lemon Mojitos = Bitter. She asked and allowed me to choose another drink. Very appreciative!! Food was great! Wings = Yummmm Cheesesteak = Yummmmmm Side Cesear Salad = Delish! Awful experience. Upon arrival, we were told there would be a 45-minute wait for a party of six. An hour and a half later, after watching several parties of six seated around us, we approached the hostess and were told that the tables for six had all been converted for use for bingo games. "Sorry," with a shrug of the shoulders. Needless to say we left a bit angry. But less than 10 minutes later we were sitting at a table for six at The Root, a restaurant only a few steps away. I've been coming to this place for 3 years now and it's all you can ask for in a pub with TVs, a jukebox and an outdoor patio. It's a great spot to catch a game or just grab drinks with friends. We stopped into MaGerk's to have a bite to eat. There were more than a dozen empty tables (I know because I counted) but still a 30-45 minute wait. We figured with all those empty tables it wouldn't take so long, but we were wrong. Clearly they do not understand how to staff for a busy weekend. Anyway, when we finally did get seated a waitress greeted us almost immediately to get our drink orders & then took 10 minutes to get back to us with our very difficult order of 2 waters. Then she left promising to come right back; someone else came over to ask if a waitress had been by (because clearly we were sitting there without having ordered) & we thought she was coming right back (BIG mistake). Eventually she took our order & the food was fine (flatbread & the crab dip pretzel)- but not worth the wait or the horrible service. Then we waited forever for the check. Thank goodness my lunch date was so interesting because they clearly did not have enough people to run their restaurant properly. So, if you're not in a hurry, maybe check it out but I won't be rushing back there anytime soon. read more

I would not recommend this place. The service is very slow and they do not accommodate guest well. I came here for drinks and they did not have the ingredients for the drink I ordered. Okay, fine I ordered another one after asking the waitress to confirm they would be able to make the drink I asked for. She said they had the drink available, however after waiting 30 minutes for a simple drink she comes back to inform me they can not make this drink. Now, why did I just wait 30 minutes for a drink I did not get? This could have been easily communicated, yet wait staff did not let me know and instead had me waiting there wasting my time. Stopped her on our way out of town. Daughter goes to Elon and said we needed to try it out. The inside is your typical sports bar with 10 large screen tvs playing nothing other than football. Love the old Elon sports team pictures on all the walls, makes a nice connection to the college. Nick our server was very attentive and offered some great selections on what to eat. Our party ordered the Mac and Cheese, JD Triple B, and the Turkey Bog(seasonal). All the food was very good. I personally had the Turkey Bog, how can you go wrong with a Thanksgiving sandwich? Could have used a tad more cranberry sauce but otherwise it was very Yummy! read more

So this is a college bar so you can only expect so much but we went there to watch a press season football game since they have tons of TVs. We ordered an appetizer and sandwiches , they all came at the same time. When I asked the waitress about this her response was oh and I didn't see her until the check. I also asked her if they could put on the football game but her response was not when there is a home Elon game, huh ? There are around 15 TV's all different channels , you can't change any of them. I wish I could give them zero stars, they don't even deserve one. First off our waitress was horrendous, she checked on us once and we physically had to walk in to pay our bill because she never came back and checked on us. However she didn't hesitate to check on a young college boy table multiple times, and would spend 5-10 minutes there at a time. Secondly the food was awful. There best seller is their nachos, and it was the worst nachos I have had in my life. Sour cream was white water, and they charge you extra for ranch and side dressing for fries and then don't bring it out to you. This place is a joke. Do not waste your time or your money. read more

As a new restaurant, there will always be hiccups. However, we've not found any that deterred us from coming back again and again. My family loves the atmosphere, friendly faces, food and service offered here. After only the second time returning, our waitress said "welcome back!" and it made us feel great to be offered open arms as a new resident of Elon. We came to McGerk's with my son, husband and mother in law tonight. Very disappointing. I got the chicken McGerk which is supposed to come with lettuce, tomato, bacon and avocado. I asked for it with no lettuce or tomato. It came with chicken, cheese and bacon. It was very dry. I asked for some guacamole and after 5 minutes the waiter came back and said they were out of guacamole. I said "that must be why there's no avocado on it" and he said ,"oh- yeah". My mother in law got the spicy shrimp wrap and it came with edamame. She asked about another side and was told she could get chips. My son got. $10 cheeseburger and it was too crispy for his taste. We've eaten there before when visiting our daughter at Elon and enjoyed the casual food and atmosphere. However, today was a disaster. Our food took over an hour and when our wings came (a favorite from our last visit!) they were terrible. They were dry and overcooked, all drumsticks with some not even full wing pieces. Really disappointing. The bathrooms were dirty with both broken soap and paper towel dispensers. MaGerk's should do better for the students and families of Elon. read more
