Extremely disappointing. Historically this has been a place I really loved going for flounder. This is my hometown after all! Today I went in for lunch and ordered a baby flounder plate. Both the flounder and the fries tasted like they were warmed up from yesterday, and when I say warmed up I mean only slightly. Coleslaw was great as always and the hush puppies were super but why were the fish and fries both mealy, lukewarm, and not crisp in the least? Much anticipated Friday lunch left me wanting. Great first experience at Harbor Inn. Even though the parking lot was very full, we were able to be seated immediately at a window seat. The littles liked being able to look outside and see their reflection in the glass. The interior is typical seafood restaurant with boats and lighthouses. I was surprised to see a tv on one wall. Like most seafood restaurants, you pay at the front here and bathrooms are at the front. There is a mixture of tables and booths, and they have seating for large parties in the back. We got a 1/2 order of the onion petals as recommended by our waitress. I don't think we would've been able to eat a whole order. They are individually fried pieces of onion, which is different from the typical cut and battered whole onion that is fried. The onion pieces were consistently crispy and not soggy. We split a seafood platter, which contained fried oysters, fried shrimp, fried flounder, a deviled crab, hushpuppies, and our side was fries. The littles liked the fried shrimp, and then the adults split the rest. After the appetizer, this was plenty for us all to eat and be full. A solid seafood option for Burlington. read more

We went to Harbor Inn last Friday. We usually get it to go but this time we ate in. The wait wasn't bad, about 10 min. The service was pretty good. The waitress kept our glasses full and was very friendly. I ordered the 2 combination plate with shrimp and oysters. For some reason I really wanted oysters. I've never had oysters here before but they were good. I asked that they fry them hard, which they did. Next time I won't get them as hard but they were still good. I've always liked their coleslaw. That's my favorite condiment! My husband ordered the chicken tenders which were fried to perfection, not too hard or crispy. This is our favorite place to eat seafood. We stop here to eat on our way to the beach! The food comes out hot and fresh. Cooked perfectly we especially love the flounder it is thick and flaky. The Service is ALWAYS excellent! And this restaurant is very clean and has a great family atmosphere. Portion size is more than most can eat. Today I was in Burlington and tried many spots. But this was my last place for the day. So there are two entrances, one for dine in and the other for togo orders. The food is delicious. I got the jumbo shrimp with catfish and fried oysters. I had to try it before hitting the road and it was good. Food was hot! The tartar sauce is delicious. Nice vibe. Will be back!! read more

Fried oysters are my litmus test for any seafood restaurant, and Harbor Inn wins the prize! The oysters are large, plump, crispy, and delicious. I also loved the slaw which was surprisingly creamy and not too sweet like in most places. DH's jumbo fried shrimp impressed us both by how large and well-prepared they were. Our waitress was upbeat, friendly, and attentive--she actually made my day with her sweet, fun attitude! This will be worth driving 25 miles from home for good fried seafood now and then. read more

I went about once a month and when I had out of town guess I would take them there. yesterday, I took my NJ family there, we were seated quickly, young lady took our drink orders, ok, she got them wrong, no big deal, we waited 30 minutes, no food, people who came in after us was served, we waited another 10 minutes, called her over, I asked what's happened? we have not been served and people who came after us have been served, she said "we have a large group in the back and it's taking awhile", I told her I know the group is here they were seated the same time as we were, and tables around us, that came after us was served and why was it only affecting us? I told her I wanted to speak to the manager. A woman came over told me she heard about the problem and continued by telling me about the large group, she asked if anyone ordered chicken because it takes longer, I said my niece ordered chicken tenders, meanwhile I'm looking at one of the customers who came after me eating a half of a chicken! I told her what I had observed and she said it had only been 15 minutes, I said that is not true. it's been close to an hour, she blow me off, well I was told again it was 15 minutes. At this point I felt she was telling me I was lying about the time, I said it was not 15 minutes, she began to walk away, I said to my family, let's go, she said fine, leave. Ok, so no apology, because she assumed I was lying. So, needless to say, I will not be going back. my money didn't mean anything to her, but it's still money you don't earn. on the way out I asked if I could get information for the owner, I was told she was there if I wanted to speak to her. I haven't eaten here in several years, and decided to go back to see if it was as good as I remembered. My husband and I got the catfish and shrimp combos which were really well cooked and crispy! Our server as well as the rest of the staff were nice and the restaurant was clean even though you can tell the building is a little old. We would definitely return for the seafood, but did not love the sides and wish they had a few more options! The hush puppies could have also been sweeter/more flavorful and there should be more included with the meal. Came here for dinner on a Friday night but the wait was about 5 minutes. We arrived about 5:20. Was a longer wait when we left...wait area was packed. Decorated nicely with a nautical theme. The menu is large and has both fried and broiled options. They do have some nonseafood items on the menu. My friend chose a broiled platter with flounder and large shrimp. Came with Cole slaw , hush puppies and choice of potato. She enjoyed it all. I chose fried shrimp and oysters and my sides were the same . It was all very good, even the Cole slaw which I don't always eat. Our server was Mona and she was excellent. We never had to ask for a drink refill and she checked on us several times. Our food came out quickly and was hot. Always a plus in my book. A busy place but worth the wait. Looking for a touch of fresh fried seafood then look no further. We visited Harbor Inn Sunday at 12pm and they were extremely packed! We were seated within a few minutes of arriving which I was very surprised. The restaurant is huge!!! Lots of booths/ tables for 4 and larger. Waitress - Very patient with us and accommodating. Food - Cooked to Order. Everything was hot to taste / seasoned to perfection ! Huge serving was enough to take home for dinner. The restaurant was very cozy and had nice sea and ocean decor. I was visiting my friend in Burlington and my mom asked me to stop at Mayflower on my way home. I know their seafood is not good, so I asked my friend about this place. She stated it's good, so I pivoted and got seafood from here. My mom loved it!even after she had to heat it back up. Since we are an hour away. She stated she doesn't normally like restaurants coleslaw slaw but she enjoyed theirs. She also stated the fish was fried perfectly and the oysters were great. Hands down the best Calabash seafood restaurant in the area. Often imitated never replicated. Great friendly staff. Large menu of seafood items. Good sized portions and reasonable pricing. Love their fried combination platters. Usually go for shrimp, scallops and oysters, but their fish is good as well. Seems like they doctor their cocktail and tartar sauces and it makes them really good. Delicious sweet tea and I like their sides that come with the platters. Coleslaw, hush puppies and French fries.
