Wish we had one in Greensboro. I was impressed that they make the entrees after you order. Very fresh and flavorful. I don't remember what the special of the day was called but it was absolutely delicious. Obviously well seasoned chicken with rice and beans however it was supposed to be served on top of a bed of fries but this location was completely out of fries so I deducted one star because how can you run out of fries? The sauces were really good the green sauce has quite a nice spice to it the yellow sauce kind of reminds me of a yum yum sauce that is mayonnaise based. A lot of the people that were in the restaurant were eating the quarter chicken or half chicken dinners and they continually have birds in the rotisserie so I'm sure they are very fresh all day long. Just wish we didn't have to travel so far for this restaurant. Also how can I forget to comment on the Yuca fries? They were absolutely fantastic and cooked perfectly

A nice cold Coke to go with a hot meal.

A newly opened business that I had heard a lot about so I expected it to be busy. And it was but there wasn't much of a wait. We ordered a whole chicken that came with two sides. The chicken was cut up into eight pieces. The sides were served in family size portions. The chicken was very moist and had a nice taste to it. I've had Peruvian chicken that was put on an open flame after being cut. This wasn't, but it was still good. The corn was buttery and delicious. The jasmine rice was nice and fluffy. The sauce had a nice flavor. They have a nice menu, reasonably priced and specials of the day. I will definitely be returning to try some of the other menu options.

Way too much for a lunch with desert...

Boston Market meets Latin-inspired sides... That's the immediate vibe I got upon walking in. Glass serving counter where they take the rotisserie chickens and carve them up into quarters, halves, or whole, then combining with sides as you move down the line to the cashier. Massive rotisserie ovens behind the servers just like Boston Market... Up-charged "premium" sides like Yuca... really? One of the most common street food sides in any Latin restaurant is a premium?? Of course I saw the cookies sitting pretty atop the serving line as I neared the cash register and decided to try them... Alfajores... $7.50 for two cookies... never again. Admittedly, the food was tasty and the chicken (just like Boston Market of old) was very flavorful and juicy. At $27.30 for a 1/4 white with beans/rice, two cookies, and a side of green beans... never again.

Delicious!! I have been waiting for this for months and Alpaca in mebane finally opened. With it being opening day, i expected it to be crazy busy but I was in, ordered and received my made to order food all within 15 minutes. The staff was so friendly and efficient. I loved the murals on the walls of Peruvian cities and communities. I got the pollo saltado, which is a bed of fries topped in onions, tomato, chicken and a savory sauce with a side of cilantro rice. Even the rice was some of the best I've had. The guest i was with got a chicken quarter with fries and slaw and said the slaw was out of this world. I'm new to Peruvian food and have never tried an Alpaca before, will be coming back here.

1/4 chicken with white meat ( breast and wing) black beans with rice and maduros, yellow and green sauce.

By the time I left around 6, there were people standing and waiting to be seated. The patio was open with one couple enjoying the nice weather and relative quiet of outdoors. Embur recently relocated to Smyres Place in Greensboro and the new space feels much smaller than I expected. The design reminded me of what I imagine a modern restaurant in Peru might look like. Industrial with solid wood floors, warm finishes, and a large wine display. There are around 25 to 26 tables, mostly two tops and four tops. The largest table seats six, but they will push tables together for larger groups. While I was there, a group of more than 20 came in celebrating something and they were seated quickly without disrupting the rest of the room. The small patio has outdoor seating with about 8 tables and a they have bar area with about nine comfortable seats. The menu took me a minute to understand but I ended up liking the setup. You choose your entrée, which comes with set ingredients, and then choose your protein. Each protein has a different price, so you can control the cost of your meal somewhat. Most menu items can also be made gluten free according to the menu, and vegetarian options seem easy to do. For my appetizer, I ordered the flatbread. Perfection. Rosemary, olive oil, sea salt. Crispy outside, soft inside, and so flavorful I almost ate the whole thing before my meal was served. The server came with water right away and remain attentive but not intrusive the whole time. For my entree, I ordered the Arroz Chaufa with salmon. Arroz Chaufa literally means fried rice. At first the dish seemed a bit salty to me, but once I added the green sauce that comes with it (served on the side), everything balanced out. The green sauce has very mild heat, so if you are not a fan of spicy food, that is the one I would recommend. There is a list of sauces so I assume you can customize your entree. According to my server, the other sauces bring more heat. The salmon was excellent, well seasoned but not too much, and moist. The portion was ample. I was very hungry but I had leftovers to bring home. Service was exactly what I want when dining alone. Attentive without being intrusive. I watched Netflix while I ate and enjoyed my meal without feeling rushed or bothered. The noise level is average for a busy small restaurant. Comfortable enough to relax, but if you want to talk to someone in your group a couple of seats away, you will need your outside voice. This place feels upscale without being fussy, so expected to pay more than average, but I thought it was good value for the quality and portions. I loved this restaurant and will absolutely go back. Must order: Rosemary flatbread appetizer. Tip: Ask about sauce heat before ordering. If you do not like spicy food, start with the green sauce.

Came here after the Durham Farmers Market with a friend and wow this place was a surprise. …read more I went with the grain bowl and honestly it is one of the best I have had in downtown Durham. It is built on quinoa and rice with black beans and kale, then layered with corn salsa, tomato cortido, guacamole, and a creamy acevichado style sauce that pulls everything together. It is finished with a crunchy mix of pepitas, nuts, and grains. The balance is quite ideal in my view. My friend had the rotisserie chicken with two sides, kale and slaw, and it was just as impressive. Crispy skin, juicy inside, and really clean flavors. Simple food done right and GF friendly. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared. Prices land right where you would expect for the quality, roughly 16 to 21 dollars depending on what you order, and it feels worth it. My bowl plus side of dark chicken was plenty. A few notes. Parking is what you would expect for downtown, so plan accordingly. Service was solid and friendly, but nothing that stood out. The vibe inside is festive and relaxed, bright and open, and just a fun place to hang out for lunch. Porbably not a special occasion. I also suspect it could get loud when full. This is definitely going into my regular rotation. That grain bowl is going to be hard to pass up next time, so instead of replacing it I will probably just add a side or an empanada and start working my way through the rest of the menu.

I am Peruvian and I've eaten at the Mi Peru restaurant in Durham a few times and I always liked it, it was too far for me though. Once I found out another Mi Peru opened closer I had to try it. For starters the strip mall where it is located is not the nicest location. The restaurant itself feels a bit old and not very clean. I was about to leave but I decided to take a chance. We ordered a few dishes to share: ceviche, chicharron de pescado, arroz chaufa, aji de gallina and seco de res. And even desserts : Alfajor, tres leches and crema volteada. Food overall wasn't bad, I actually liked it, it wasn't amazing but not bad at all. The service on the other hand was terrible, there was a young guy and a young girl who had no idea how to wait tables, we were missing silverware, we had to ask for plates and glasses, .... That duo was a mess. They seemed too occupied flirting with each other than caring for the 2 tables that were occupied. Anyhow, when we got to bill I noticed that an 18% tip was mandatory !! 18 % for the terrible service I had received, that was really unfair. I paid over $180 for 5 adults and 2 kids and terrible service. Up until that point I was determined to leave and just give this place 3 stars . But then I decided to go to the bathroom and on my way to the bathroom there was a cockroach in the hallway, that was disgusting so I moved quickly into the bathroom. Inside the bathroom under the sink there was another cockroach !!! I almost threw up wondering how many cockroaches are probably running around in the kitchen!!! It is sad for me to post this as a Peruvian but I care more about the safety of the people and the reputation of the Peruvian food. My advice to the owners of Mi Peru.( the original ) which I respect. Don't destroy your brand, close the restaurant and fumigate it completely, then remodel it, clean it, hire better waiters and then reopen. Or pick a nicer location if possible. I am not coming back and will advise everyone I know not to go either.

AUTHENTIC! Quick service and nicely decorated…read more Having spent 12 years of my life in Peru, I feel confident with my assessment of Mi Peru. I was in town for business and as in every location I travel to, I look for Peruvian food. This is in my top three. One was in Austin, TX, one in St Louis, MO and now this one in Durham, NC. I had the lunch special. It included a drink, soup and entree. Of course you have to drink Inca Cola (tastes like Squirt with Cream Soda) nice and cold. I'll have to get a Chicha Morada to take with me (which I did, and it was fruity and sweet, like a non-alcoholic sangria with cinnamon). The soup was a chicken and lentil soup with various veggies. As soon as I tasted it, I knew I was in for a treat and prayed the Aji de Gallina would be just as good. It was! Aji de Gallina is a shredded chicken dish made with Peruvian Aji amarillos, nuts, Parmesan cheese. Add in all the delicious spices Peru is known for and you have a wonderful, homey, delicious dish. I will be coming back tonight for dinner. Can't decide if I want the Seco de Res or the Lomo Saltado. Both staple dishes in Peru. Part 2 - so...I was too tired to go back for dinner. BUT, I did order in. I got the Papa à la Huancaina (so delicious, it tasted like I make at home). It is a creamy, Aji Amarillo cheese sauce over yellow potatoes. I would have liked it a little spicier, but I understand having to cater to the general public, so I'll let that slide. But the flavor was as good as you could get. I also opted to order the Seco since I thought it would travel better than the Lomo Saltado. The rice was perfect. Not soggy or spongy. Just right. Flavored with a little salt and garlic. You could eat it by itself. The Seco meat was tender. I didn't even use a knife to cut it. In fact, it pulled apart easily with a plastic fork. I would have liked a little more of the cilantro sauce to soak up in my rice. The flavors were right on, but I love cilantro...so. It even came with a Salsa Criolla (lightly pickled red onion), which is authentic and served with many Peruvian dishes. I ordered additional salsa amarillo just to taste. It's a sauce made with aji amarillo and black mint. I know it sounds weird but it's actually so tasty and fresh. My only disappointment were the beans not that they weren't good and flavorful, but they were pinto beans. I was really expecting mayacoba beans (similar to a white canary bean). Sorry, I ate it before thinking about taking pictures. All in all, I would rate this highly for those wanting to try authentic Peruvian food. My next visit to Durham I'll be trying the Ceviche and Lomo Saltado.

I live about an hour and a half away, but whenever I have an appointment at UNC, I usually try one of the area's highly rated restaurants. After my doctor's appointment, I decided to place a large order so my family and I could try several menu items. I ordered Chop Chop, 22oz. Jarritos Mango drink, Arroz Chaufa, Green Beans, Lomo Saltado, Rice, Fries, Pollo Saltado, Chicken Soup, Two Half-Chicken, Green & Yellow Sauce, Two orders of Tres Leches Cake, and Flan. I placed the order at approximately 3:25 p.m., and the app notified me that it was ready at 3:45 p.m. I picked it up around 4:00 p.m. The restaurant did not appear to be very busy, so I trusted that the staff had checked my large order before handing me the bags. Unfortunately, when I arrived home, I discovered that some of my orders were missing. I called the Chapel Hill location and initially spoke with an employee who told me I could drive back to Chapel Hill to get the missing drinks. I explained that I live approximately an hour and a half away. Driving another three-hour round trip in an SUV and spending additional money on gas would not be reasonable as they should have been placed with my order in the first place. The employee apologized and said she could not issue a refund at all because she did not have access to the system and no manager was available. She told me that someone would call me back. I later received a call from someone named Lucia or Lucita, if I remember correctly. She explained that she could not process the refund at that moment because she was not at the restaurant, but she promised to take care of it the following day. I told her that was fine as long as she followed through and would not forget. It has now been a week, and I have not received the promised refund or any further communication. I am attaching a copy of the receipt that was attached to one of my food bags. The receipt appears to have been used as a packing checklist, with handwritten check marks beside many of the items. However, the drink listed on the receipt does not appear to have been checked off. Considering the size of this order, someone should have carefully checked the quantity and contents of every bag before handing them to me. The restaurant was not busy when I picked up the order, and the receipt provided a clear checklist that could have been used to catch the missing items. Mistakes can happen, and the missing drinks alone could have been easily resolved. What is most disappointing is that I was promised a refund and then received no follow-up. Good customer service requires honesty, accountability, and following through on commitments. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend the Chapel Hill location. _______________________ MY RESPONSE TO OWNER: As stated above, I have already reached out to the Chapel Hill location and explained the situation in detail. I agreed and trusted that she would keep her word. More than a week later, I still have not received the promised refund or any further communication. Your response now asks me to contact the restaurant again, even though I have already done exactly that and was promised a resolution. I should not have to repeatedly chase your business for a refund after your employees failed to include part of my paid order and then failed to honor their promise to correct it. The appropriate response would be for management to review the order, contact me directly using the information already associated with it, and process the promised refund. The responsibility to resolve this should not continue to be placed on the customer. Your public response also contains unfilled template language such as "contact_name" and "contact_title," which makes it appear that my review and the details I provided were not carefully read before the response was posted. I am still waiting for Alpaca Chicken to follow through and make this right.
