I love this restaurant!!! It's so flavorful and fresh. You can also get these delicious yellow and green sauces which really amplifies the taste. My favorite is the lomo soltado. Had it more times than I can count :) always a great combo of salty; savory etc!

I've never met an Alpaca location I didn't like and this was no exception. I ordered the Monday special, the Pollo Saltado, but decided to substitute black beans for fries this time. The flavors were wonderful. The chicken was perfectly cooked -- so tender. I absolutely love their green sauce but didn't even need it today with all the other flavors. What a nice lunch treat on a rainy Monday.

Fresh food that was tasty and fast. Service left a bit to be desired, but the prices are fair. Clean location.

If you're ever looking for a way into my heart... Order me a 1/2 chicken with rice & beans with green beans. They have improved the green sauce recipe as well! It has a little more freshness and zest to it than it did before and now I prefer it over the yellow sauce.

Tasty consistent Peruvian chicken chain. This location is near plenty of shopping and other competitors for your dining dollars. While the location is across the main road, there's plenty of parking out front and it does provide a mental breather from the hustle and bustle of Target and other places nearby. I ordered a half chicken with black beans and a side salad for lunch with a chi cha morado to wash it down. The chicken is succulent and has a beautiful wood fired flavor. The spices are lovely and compliments the chicken very well. They chop it into white and dark. Sometimes the white meat can be dry in other establishments, but not here. The beans are rich and hearty. The salad is fresh and provides a nice healthy crunch comparison to the roast meat. While you do get a choice of cilantro or other dressing, I usually go for the spicy green sauce as my topper. Btw that green sauce is addictive. I considered attending an addiction recovery forum when I don't get my fix. It does have a nice kick, but that gets tempered with the chicha morado. The purple corn based drink with warm spices like cinnamon and some additional sweetness. It's a nice rotation to a soda. I've been coming to this and other locations for years and will continue to dine.

This place is as simple as it can get, and yet they possess that "wow factor" that makes you want to come back again. As a long standing business of the community, I'm glad to see that Alpaca has continued to find success and serve the same high quality food as they did when I first visited their establishment many years ago. Alpaca specializes in Peruvian charcoal chicken, which is the Peruvian version of the rotisserie chicken. When I think of rotisserie chicken, I think of the chickens you buy from your local grocery, the classic inexpensive, comfort meal. Alpaca takes this staple item and elevates it with the charcoal chicken. The big difference comes from the outer skin of the chicken, it is rubbed with various peppers and spices to give the skin some extra lift and bold flavors. It's got a bit of spice, it's smoky and the skin itself gets crispy from the cooking process. It is delicious. The chicken inside comes out drier than a rotisserie, but I typically dip it in one of their various sauces and it not only gives it moisture, but extra flavor complexity. Alpaca has some other wonderful items besides their chicken. Their arroz chaufa is my favorite item there, which is their chicken fried rice. The portion size is big and the flavor is always on point. Their sides rock as well. The fried yucca is always golden and crispy, but not overcooked. It's got a soft and warm interior and just salty enough to be enjoyable. The plantains are sweet and delicious. Alpaca has designed a winning formula that has allowed them to stay in business for so long. By continuing to provide delicious and affordable food, they have certainly won me over. They don't need to reinvent the wheel, they just need to continue to keep the chicken consistent and they will continue to serve the Morrisville area for a lot longer!

Excellent service and food, as always. My food here was as consistent as any other Alpaca's.

Heart-shaped cookies sandwiched with caramel - Alfajore (2 pcs)

I was shopping in a nearby grocery store and decided to stop by to grab dinner for the family. I ordered a carry out meal including a whole rotisserie chicken (8 pieces) with two large sides (white rice and hand-cut fries) (I didn't need a vegetable side since I had already prepared one at home). My eleven year old also convinced me to order some alfajore cookies - heart-shaped, powder-sugared cookie sandwiches with caramel in between (in honor of the upcoming Valentine's Day, she reasoned). The food was good and I would purchase it again at around $27.99 plus tax. The chicken was moist, the white rice was PERFECT, and the hand-cut fries were sinfully delicious (I went back for seconds on the fries). The cookies were also pretty tasty, although I only ate a quarter of one ($7 for two cookie sandwiches). After indulging in a second helping of fries, I decided to (finally) exercise some self-control. LOL. The person who packaged the meal greeted us warmly and was very friendly throughout our entire transaction. He patiently guided us through the menu options that would be amenable for a family of our size, including the night's special. A nice place for "home style" carry out when you are in the area for a Target run, grocery shopping or a movie and are too exhausted to cook.

Lomo saltado, arroz chaufa, pollo abrasa
    Briana F.

My boyfriend is Peruvian and we often eat home cooked Peruvian food on a regular basis. We were looking for a place with a good pollo abrasa and this is it! We will definitely be going back for more. Unfortunately we were not super impressed with the arroz chaufa and lomo saltado. But other than that the chicken was still one of the best we've had in the past. The staff were very friendly and we got our meal quickly.

Food was GREAT! I only wish their sauce resembled Crisp and Juicy restaurant's in Maryland. Alpaca's sauce was basically mustard.

Ask the Community - Alpaca Chicken

I want to order Alpaca for delivery but the yellow & green sauces cost $3.00 each on Door Dash. Is this price for the small cups or larger sizes? Can I get the small cups of yellow & green sauce for free or do I have to pay the $3.00 a piece price?

All orders come with a small sauce of your choice, the charge are for extra sauce, I think 6 oz each. Call restaurant to confirm size. Food is fantastic. On of the better ones I have had outside of Chile.

Are you guys open on thanksgiving tomorrow 26th Nov 2020?

Sorry! No, all of our locations are closed tomorrow and Friday, except our Brier Creek and Sanford locations will be open on Friday.

Do you offer private dining space for large parties?

No large, private dining space. I believe they cater if that is an option for you.

Do you use peanut oil to cook anything?

Hi Alyx, We do not use peanut oil at all. We only use Canola oil. I hope this helps!

I was in town for business and as in every location I travel to, I look for Peruvian food. This is in my top three. One was in Austin, TX, one in St Louis, MO and now this one in Durham, NC. I had the lunch special. It included a drink, soup and entree. Of course you have to drink Inca Cola (tastes like Squirt with Cream Soda) nice and cold. I'll have to get a Chicha Morada to take with me (which I did, and it was fruity and sweet, like a non-alcoholic sangria with cinnamon). The soup was a chicken and lentil soup with various veggies. As soon as I tasted it, I knew I was in for a treat and prayed the Aji de Gallina would be just as good. It was! Aji de Gallina is a shredded chicken dish made with Peruvian Aji amarillos, nuts, Parmesan cheese. Add in all the delicious spices Peru is known for and you have a wonderful, homey, delicious dish. I will be coming back tonight for dinner. Can't decide if I want the Seco de Res or the Lomo Saltado. Both staple dishes in Peru. Part 2 - so...I was too tired to go back for dinner. BUT, I did order in. I got the Papa à la Huancaina (so delicious, it tasted like I make at home). It is a creamy, Aji Amarillo cheese sauce over yellow potatoes. I would have liked it a little spicier, but I understand having to cater to the general public, so I'll let that slide. But the flavor was as good as you could get. I also opted to order the Seco since I thought it would travel better than the Lomo Saltado. The rice was perfect. Not soggy or spongy. Just right. Flavored with a little salt and garlic. You could eat it by itself. The Seco meat was tender. I didn't even use a knife to cut it. In fact, it pulled apart easily with a plastic fork. I would have liked a little more of the cilantro sauce to soak up in my rice. The flavors were right on, but I love cilantro...so. It even came with a Salsa Criolla (lightly pickled red onion), which is authentic and served with many Peruvian dishes. I ordered additional salsa amarillo just to taste. It's a sauce made with aji amarillo and black mint. I know it sounds weird but it's actually so tasty and fresh. My only disappointment were the beans not that they weren't good and flavorful, but they were pinto beans. I was really expecting mayacoba beans (similar to a white canary bean). Sorry, I ate it before thinking about taking pictures. All in all, I would rate this highly for those wanting to try authentic Peruvian food. My next visit to Durham I'll be trying the Ceviche and Lomo Saltado.
