Come on down come on down!! This place has blown my mind away. The decor of the restaurant is traditional and warming. You can see the blends of latin culture. My hubby and i were a little apprehensive because it's so tough to find great authentic latin cuisine.... this spot is worth the $2 parking down the street. We ordered the pollo a la pobresa and our favorite snack from Miami "papa rellena" . If you never had one, STUFF YOUR FACE. everything was cooked to perfection, tons of traditional flavors, and well priced. My message to the chef: DON'T CHANGE A THING, thank you

Walking into a hillsborough street establishment, I wouldn't expect coming out of a meal at about 30 dollars per person. But that's not the reason why I give this place a three stars rating. It's merely bad location choice. However, the food here is... mediocre. I ordered 3 things. Ceviche(octopus, fish and shrimp), seafood rice and chicken chaufa. Let's start with the best item on the list. Chicken fried rice, basic. But that's what I expected, basic and slight aromatic. Chicken is moist and marinated. But the ceviche was a huge let down. Don't get me wrong. The seasoning was good. But the ingredients just weren't that fresh. Fish was quite mushy. Shrimp was fishy. The octopus was average. And the seafood rice, you can probably cook better ones at home. The reason I said that, is that you can tell they just drown cooked white rice in the saffron mix and serve it to you. Also, while seasoning is good, it's pretty much the same for every dishes. Pickled onion + cilantro. The is just not worth 30 per person.

Thus is my second time at Pisco Mar and I am in love! They have open floor seating as well as booths, I prefer to sit out on the dance floor under their lights and near the DJ! They have lively Latin music playing and wonderful service! They also have AMAZING food! The lomo saltado is my go to, the plating is very simple but the dish is so flavourful! Today I came in time for lunch and ordered the lunch special, a serving of meat with two sides for $8! The chicken was moist and fell off the bone, so delicious! I will say the sides fell flat for me, but the desserts here certainly make up for it! The guava cheesecake is a simple cheesecake topped with guava syrup, the flavour isn't as strong as I anticipated but it is still very satisfying! Overall, I will be returning again! A hidden gem out on Hillsborough street!

We got there 30 minutes before closing and the made us feel welcome. They were very nice and the food was excellent. I highly recommend the ceviche and lomo saltado.

OMG!!! This place is amazing! Please, please give it a try. It would be such a shame if this place closed down. The service, the food and the atmosphere are all superb. A hidden gem. Everything we ate was seasoned perfectly and the portions are huge! We had the papas a la huancaina, lomo salteado and a slice of the guava cheesecake. We shared all the food between two adults and still had leftovers to take home. The guava cheesecake was so good we decided to take a slice home. A hidden gem! Please check them out!

Overpriced for mediocre food. As a Peruvian I'm embarrassed. Ordered the ceviche and was around $30... fish wasn't fresh, was very mushy.

I am Peruvian and I've eaten at the Mi Peru restaurant in Durham a few times and I always liked it, it was too far for me though. Once I found out another Mi Peru opened closer I had to try it. For starters the strip mall where it is located is not the nicest location. The restaurant itself feels a bit old and not very clean. I was about to leave but I decided to take a chance. We ordered a few dishes to share: ceviche, chicharron de pescado, arroz chaufa, aji de gallina and seco de res. And even desserts : Alfajor, tres leches and crema volteada. Food overall wasn't bad, I actually liked it, it wasn't amazing but not bad at all. The service on the other hand was terrible, there was a young guy and a young girl who had no idea how to wait tables, we were missing silverware, we had to ask for plates and glasses, .... That duo was a mess. They seemed too occupied flirting with each other than caring for the 2 tables that were occupied. Anyhow, when we got to bill I noticed that an 18% tip was mandatory !! 18 % for the terrible service I had received, that was really unfair. I paid over $180 for 5 adults and 2 kids and terrible service. Up until that point I was determined to leave and just give this place 3 stars . But then I decided to go to the bathroom and on my way to the bathroom there was a cockroach in the hallway, that was disgusting so I moved quickly into the bathroom. Inside the bathroom under the sink there was another cockroach !!! I almost threw up wondering how many cockroaches are probably running around in the kitchen!!! It is sad for me to post this as a Peruvian but I care more about the safety of the people and the reputation of the Peruvian food. My advice to the owners of Mi Peru.( the original ) which I respect. Don't destroy your brand, close the restaurant and fumigate it completely, then remodel it, clean it, hire better waiters and then reopen. Or pick a nicer location if possible. I am not coming back and will advise everyone I know not to go either.

We got hooked on pollo a la brasa…read morewhen we lived in the DC area, where great Peruvian chicken spots are everywhere, and I was genuinely excited to discover that Alpaca exists here--and has grown into a solid local chain. I've also heard they're family-owned, which makes me like them even more. The chicken is absolutely awesome--consistently flavorful, juicy, and exactly what you want when you're craving Peruvian charcoal chicken. The sides are good across the board, though I'd love to see arroz chaufa added as a side option someday. The yellow and green sauces slap, and the fact that they carry Inca Kola is a huge win. Price-wise, it's fair--not cheap, but reasonable for the quality. What keeps this location from a full 5 stars is the service consistency. Sometimes it's great: order through the app, pick it up, everything is correct. Other times... not so much. There have been multiple occasions where items were missing because the kids behind the counter seemed more focused on things that weren't work-related. I get it--I was that age once--but at the very least, orders should match what prints out or shows up on the screen. There's nothing more frustrating than paying for food you don't receive, and when you point it out, getting the confused "huh?" look. It's not the end of the world, but it is annoying--especially since this isn't exactly bargain-basement pricing. Final thought: Clean up the service consistency issues at this location and you're instantly 5 stars. The food is already there.

I ordered passion fruit juice and it took me to my childhood, when my mom would make fresh, pure juice, no sugar added! The food portions were perfect for the price, I even had enough to take home for my dinner. The ceviche leche de trigre was also on point, very similar to what I have tried in my trips to Peru. Now, the location almost made me turn around. There was glass and trash on the streets and it didn't seem like a safe place. Luckily, management informed us that they are going to move due to this. Hopefully they will continue having great food, good ambiance, and a better location.

I hope you like to read because ai have a lot to say about Gustitos! So a friend of mine told me…read moreabout this new Peruvian restaurant in the area so I definitely had to try it ! I came with my family ( 4 of us ) this weekend. First of all the location and the parking lot area are not appealing at all, looks a bit sketchy from the outside. On the inside it is clean but it is a bit confusing, it seems that there is a Peruvian restaurant during the day and a separate business as a Dominican club at night so there are different signs on the outside and the vibe inside is a bit off. So we could probably say that the location is a hole in the wall. Anyhow, sometimes you hear that the best food is served in a hole in the wall, we'll that is true here!!! I have to say that they probably have the best Peruvian food in the area!!! The Mostrito Parrillero has everything you could expect ( anticucho, pancita, corazón de pollo, molleja, chicken, potatoes and a great sauce ). Texture and flavor is the best I've had in a long time. Then I ordered the Trio ( 3 dishes in one). The ceviche was well prepared, the fish chicharrón with the "acebichado" sauce was delicious, sadly the Chaufa was not so good in my opinion, I could find better. The fettuccini a la huancaina was also tasty and well prepared. The Lomo Saltado that came with it was very good, the onions and tomatoes where perfectly cooked, onions were cooked but still crunchy. Sauce was great, not too salty as you find in other places, just right. The meat was just ok in my opinion, meat would be a bit softer ( lomo should be a softer cut ). Then I got drinks, the passion fruit juice was delicious, the chicha was just ok, needed some lemon and it was not cold. Service was overall good. They kept refilling our complimentary "cancha" appetizer and giving us "leche de tigre " to taste. A couple of things I didn't like is that they don't offer drinks by pitcher only by the glass and at $5 each adds up pretty fast so they should offer that as an option. Also something that I didn't like is that they automatically charge you a 15% gratuity no matter how big is your party. I don't agree with that because tips should be dictated by the service and not an automatic add on. Where is their incentive to improve the service ?! My in-laws went the same day and they also complained about that. When it comes to pricing I believe it was a bit expensive. Even though the food is very good you are being charged same as in restaurants that are located in a nice area and have amazing service. I don't think the prices match the overall experience. Too bad we didn't have any room for desserts, I definitely want to try their picarones which according to them are made from scratch so yes I will definitely be back. I may probably just order food to go next time though as I didn't enjoy the location and I don't agree with their tipping policy. Finally, I was told by a friend that their "alfajores " were not good, kinda like the hard ones that you find at Alpaca and not the soft and crumbly ones you can get in Peru. Maybe they need to find a different supplier for those. Anyhow I am definitely coming back and look forward to try all the other dishes they have !!!

The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and well-priced, whether you're dining in or grabbing takeout. We almost always order the ¼ white meat chicken and pair it with two sides: usually white rice, maduros (plantains), or green beans. It's simple, but it's done extremely well every time. It also feels like we aren't eating super unhealthy when we pick Alpaca. The chicken is always tender and juicy, and the portions are generous for the price. What really completes the meal, though, are the sauces. Make sure to get both the yellow sauce and the green (spicy) sauce. They take everything to another level. Affordable, consistent, and easy to keep coming back to. We're loyal customers for a reason.

The store was very cute, with a large stuffed llama near the check-out desk. The restaurant is chipotle-style. You choose a cut and amount of roast chicken. and then go down the line and pick out your sides and other goodies. For the price, you get a good portion. I got a half-chicken meal, dark meat only, with beans and French fries, as well as a chicha morada beverage. Their sauces are off to the side and self-serve, which I love. The roast chicken was delicious, so well-seasoned and tender. Honestly I did not need the sauce to eat it. The beans were smoky and I appreciate the fact that it was portioned separately to prevent the fries from getting soggy. The fries were not that fresh, and they had the skins on. I would not get these next time. The sauces were good but not mind-blowing. The green sauce in particular was sharp and salty but not flavorful. The orange sauce tasted mostly like mayo. However, again, since all the food was well-seasoned, I didn't really need the sauces. Alpaca is a great, quick, and healthy option for tasty Peruvian food. I would definitely come back for my quick fix, but I would probably skip the sauces.
