This place has become a staple for us since moving to Raleigh. We got hooked on pollo a la brasa when we lived in the DC area, where great Peruvian chicken spots are everywhere, and I was genuinely excited to discover that Alpaca exists here--and has grown into a solid local chain. I've also heard they're family-owned, which makes me like them even more. The chicken is absolutely awesome--consistently flavorful, juicy, and exactly what you want when you're craving Peruvian charcoal chicken. The sides are good across the board, though I'd love to see arroz chaufa added as a side option someday. The yellow and green sauces slap, and the fact that they carry Inca Kola is a huge win. Price-wise, it's fair--not cheap, but reasonable for the quality. What keeps this location from a full 5 stars is the service consistency. Sometimes it's great: order through the app, pick it up, everything is correct. Other times... not so much. There have been multiple occasions where items were missing because the kids behind the counter seemed more focused on things that weren't work-related. I get it--I was that age once--but at the very least, orders should match what prints out or shows up on the screen. There's nothing more frustrating than paying for food you don't receive, and when you point it out, getting the confused "huh?" look. It's not the end of the world, but it is annoying--especially since this isn't exactly bargain-basement pricing. Final thought: Clean up the service consistency issues at this location and you're instantly 5 stars. The food is already there. read more

I absolutely love Alpaca. This was my first time at this location and I am so glad the owners kept the old IHOP building and renovated instead of demolishing it. I love the picture of the old IHOP inside mixed among the alpaca pics. Such a neat touch. The food and service is always superb. Today was Monday so I had to get the unique Monday special -- pollo Saltado. It's delicious chicken, tomatoes and onions over French fries with a side of rice. Healthy, right? Alpaca is my go to for fast casual food. The chicken is always juicy on the inside, crispy on the outside, and has great flavor. I love that you can fully customize your meal. This time, I got the 1/4 white meat chicken with green beans and French fries. The green beans were in the most delicious garlic sauce! I also absolutely love their yellow sauce!! I have tried to replicate it at home, but nothing compares. Only downfall is that my husband ordered a 1/2 chicken and was only given a 1/4 chicken. The restaurant was very busy and was still quick to rectify the issue, so overall we are still very happy! I got carry out this time, but have dined in before. A group of college kids were standing by the door, blocking the entrance inside. Once I was inside, I was in line and the employee skipped me and started taking someone else's order. I looked for a sec to see if she'd take my order but she didn't. I had to say excuse me, I'm next in line. She seemed like it was an issue but I was waiting in line. They immediately went to the people behind me. Then she NEVER apologized to me BUT apologized to the girl behind me. Poor customer service. I wish I would have gotten her name. But it was rude of her to skip me then apologize to the other person. I probably won't visit this location again. A bunch of kids with no customer service training. Then, to make matters worse, I'm standing there waiting for my order, holding my number, instead of walking it to me (like they did everyone else) & getting my number, she stood at the register and held my bag out. I really enjoyed our lunch at this Alpaca location. It is located in the space off of Hillsborough Street where the IHOP was at years ago. I ordered the quarter white rotisserie chicken with two sides (rice topped with black beans and corn) with a chi cha morada and my husband had the quarter white rotisserie chicken with two sides (rice topped with black beans and maduros) with a horchata. The best roasted/rotisserie chicken anywhere around. Always juicy and flavorful. I also really enjoy their maduros and the salad with cilantro dressing. The chi cha morada drink is also very refreshing. The ambience is nice for a casual dinner or quick lunch. I enjoyed the way the place was decorated while waiting for my pick up order. The staff there did great making sure I got my complete order to-go. I would recommend ordering ahead for lunch because the place gets quite busy. Irregardless, Alpaca is my favorite spot when I just really want some roasted chicken. read more

Excellent food and service. They really turned this old ihop into a beautiful quick service restaurant. The food was delicious, they're known for their chicken for a reason. I used them to cater a small work meeting and all of the food was definitely a crowd pleaser. Of course the chicken was perfect but the arroz chaufa was delicious as wells the llomo Saltaldo and jerk chicken with all of the sides. This is our 3rd time at this location. The order is always wrong. Tonight they ran out of chicken. So we ordered a different dish and the rice was raw, chicken was cold and tomato's weren't cooked. Then the order was also wrong. Won't be going here a 4th time. Also you can't hear a fucking thing anyone says when ordering. read more

Seeming inability to provide food ordered for pickup accurately, including not adding multiple meats to a vegetarian order, and providing the wrong (and cheaper) meats on other orders... Somewhat surprisingly, while they have a readily available contact form, they apparently don't address things submitted. Generally been a big fan of the brand (and have catering orders with another location), but sheesh, this location isn't ready for the public, and I'm having questions about their larger ability to manage at scale. read more

Ordered a pick-up for 1/2 chicken entree. Arrived home and its a 1/4 (breast and a wing) . Called in and they said the manager would call to correct this. Never heard from him/her. Called two days later and same response. Again never got a call. They don't care. Now I know why they tape down the take out bags with that big strip of green tape. read more

First visit ... actually second visit ... the first visit their HVAC wasn't working and they were temporarily closed. That made for a bad first impression, but we decided to try them after all. We're glad we did. I had the daily special which discounted the price of Arroz Chaufa and added a free fountain drink. This dish is tasty with lots of chopped fresh charcoaled chicken and seasoned rice with generous scallions that came with a nice salad of lettuce tomatoes and cucumber. The dish came with a yellow sauce (Mayo-based?) that I enjoyed. It also came with a spicy green sauce (yogurt-based?) that was also very good. I would order both sauces on my next visit. My wife had the quarter chicken with slaw and fries and she was struck by how moist yet not greasy the chicken was. She liked the slaw and the fries, although she thought the fries would have been better if they were crispy. The fries might have lost a bit being boxed for pickup. The only criticism of my meal would be that it was a bit on the salty side. Over all we were very pleased. This is good value and flavorful. We'll order from there again, probably soon! read more
