Anticucho de pollo // two grilled chicken thighs with a side of green beans and green rice with black beans

Came here for a family dinner and the food was absolutely amazing super big portion and everything was fresh. Everyone enjoyed their food and it was about nine of us. I highly recommend any of the grilled chicken steak or shrimp dishes.

Canastas Chicken is located in the Gateway Commons Shopping Center in Wake Forest. It is in a section near Heritage Lake Road. I had not heard of Canastas Chicken before driving by the location one day and deciding to stop after work. The parking area was busy with the dental office next door. It is a Peruvian restaurant and has rotisserie chicken, shrimp, beef, pork, and lamb. For sides, there are many rice dishes, fried yuka, plantains, french fries, red potatoes, salad, green beans, mixed vegetables and coleslaw. When you enter, you notice the colorful walls and tables. You can dine in or place an order to go. I used the kiosk to order takeout. I ordered the Camarones al Grill, aka grilled shrimp. It came with two sides, and I did the house salad and fried rice. The portion was large as I got a lot of rice and ten shrimp so I wasn't able to eat it all. The restaurant seemed understaffed at first, with just one person fulfilling the orders. Then a group came out from the back, and it seemed like there was not enough room for them all. I am sure in time they will figure out a better way to fulfill orders, maybe with an assembly line with one doing the meats and another working on the sides. I will give it another try in a few weeks and see if there are any improvements, and try some of the other dishes on the menu.

Great new edition to the Wake Forest food scene. Canastas is a Peruvian charcoal-broiled spot. They offer a sizable menu with the standards (chicken) and a number of authentic Peruvian specialties (beef heart). The place is brand new so everything is shiny, bright and clean. There are about 10 tables to eat in, with table service. You have the option to order at a kiosk near the door or at the counter. Food is excellent. The whole chicken is sizeable, and served cut into pieces. It features delectably spiced crispy skin and most juicy meat. Sides delicious as well. Long-simmered black beans, sticky white rice. Seasoned dirty rice. Sticky sweet plantains. Also tried a skewer of beef heart. This is a Peruvian specialty and a favorite. The meat is cut into thin slices and marinated, then skewered and char broiled. It's very lean, a little bit chewy perfectly spiced and excellent. Almost a gamey taste but very very good. Service is still a work in progress, but they get some grace because I visited on the 2nd day open. And it was VERY busy - people are anxious to give it a try! I'm sure as things settle in, service will speed up as well. Food is delicious. Give this place a try.

I had the cilantro chicken with red skinned, potatoes, and fried plantains. My wife had the ANTICUCHO DE POLLO with black beans and fried rice. The food was excellent. This was the best Peruvian food we have had. We will most definitely be back! Dine in service was good. It did take a little longer than I expected. The food was well worth the wait. We happened order at a slow time. It did seem like when we were finishing our meal the dinner rush came and there seemed to be plenty of people to serve customers.

Good chicken well-seasoned not dried out. Black beans were a little too watery for my taste. Effectively it's another alpaca competitor in the area. Their sauces are okay but I think I prefer alpacas green sauce.

I was excited to see they were opening a Canastas here as I missed it so much from my home state. The food came out fresh, it was pretty good. Customer service was excellent & kiosk was easy to use.

I have been anxiously waiting for about 6 months for the opening of this restaurant so when I friend of mine told it was now open I dropped everything and came to Check it out!!! As a Peruvian I felt the duty to come and taste the food . I decided to try today the Lomo Saltado, a typical Peruvian dish. There are some other nearby restaurants like Alpaca that can make this dish so I wanted to compare. They totally nailed the flavor! And the sauces that they brought (yellow and green) they were amazing. They feel really fresh and with Super good flavor. The chicha morada drink was also the best I've had in a while. Service was good considering it is the first day it's open. Ever nice and clean. I am very excited to see a Peruvian restaurant that has a decent list of Peruvian dishes.... Finally Alpaca has decent competitor in the area !!! I need to try the other dishes but for now comparing the lomo Saltado I can say Canastas 1 - Alpaca 0. . So grateful for this Christmas present ! . I'll be back.

This place was superb! The portions and flavors were great! We ordered a 'Papa a la huancaina' to start. The sauce was on target, just wished it was slightly thicker but definitely loved the flavor. It happens to be my favorite. I tried the quarter chicken with two sides. I picked the fries and coleslaw. Those portions were for 2-3 people. The chicken was delicious. I loved the cumin flavor against the charred skin. Yum! We also ordered 'Lomo saltado' dish. So so so good. Again the portion was large. Probably could have shared this with 2-3 people as well. The staff was very helpful and checking in with us to see how the meal was. I loved the environment. Chairs were so comfortable. We will definitely be back to try more items. I highly recommend.

Well let me tell you an absolute amazing review of Canastas. Mind you this was Door Dash too. The black beans and rice were perfectly cooked and delicious. The Peruvian chicken was moist and flavorful. The plantains were caramelized and sweet. Please dine at Canastas! Better than Alpaca!

The tortillas did indeed taste like white bread, somehow. The cheese was an unidentifiable white cheese-like substance. The meat was completely flavorless and seemingly unseasoned, though, it did, at least, taste and look like it likely came from a recognizable member of the cattle family (rather than some other, less ideal, quadrupedal sources of red meat). The chips had the traditional shape and color of chips in a typical Tex-Mex restaurant. Despite the reassuring outward appearance, however, they were also oddly lacking in flavor, other than a strange movie popcorn-like aftertaste. The salsa unexpectedly seemed to have been fashioned from actual tomatoes, rather than the usual jarred mush found at most casual Tex-Mex restaurants. While normally this would be a good thing, here it meant that the salsa was being prepared in-house (or shipped in from the Chuy's warehouse of condiments). Though the salsa was acceptably mediocre, it benefitted from tasting a little better than other things on the table, which also helped me partially forgive its remarkable resemblance to gastric effluvium.

The waitress…read morebrought an egg that was still coated in raw egg all over, one of the runniest most undercooked eggs I've ever been served, no exaggeration. I asked if they could cook it more, which I never do, I never send things back bc I'm afraid of insulting the person's cooking skills who is handling my food. But this egg was still clucking. She took the plate, walked into the kitchen, we heard chopping sounds for 2 seconds and she brought it immediately back. She was gone with it for seriously under 30 seconds. She set it on the table and announced "I didn't want to turn it brown" and walked away. The egg was exactly the same doneness, but now chopped up. I don't know why I let this peer pressure make me second guess my judgment and intuition, but we were traveling due to a family tragedy and I was just tired and stressed and needed to feed my hungry baby. So I fed her the egg. Halfway through, my breakfast was brought to the table with a well-cooked egg on the plate, so I swapped hers for mine. I guess Border just feels really strongly that adults need fully cooked eggs and babies need raw ones. Later that night, my baby vomited. Then again. And again. She vomited 7 times all through the night. I vomited once. Diarrhea all day yesterday for both of us. We didn't get to go see our sick family member, for whom we flew across the country. It was just such a huge stroke of bad luck that I felt the need to share... I hate to ream a humble business, but serving a raw egg to somebody for a baby is not cool. Especially when they asked it well cooked. And then to refuse to cook it more when asked. By a mom who is trying to protect her baby. And to pretend they had cooked it more when they clearly hadn't. Please listen to mothers when we advocate for our children. We truly know best for them.

Ordered a bowl and a salad with grilled shrimp, chips and guacamole and small tots. The salad was just not good, the shrimp were barely cooked (see photo) and loaded with so many onions and just a weird combo of flavors. The tots were so salty, the bacon tasted off (sort of metallic?) and we didn't even finish the half portion! The chips were extremely salty as well. Honestly, the best part of the lunch was my drink and I made that! I mixed horchata with the cold brew and it was good. A really crummy lunch that set us back FIFTY DOLLARS. However, they have employees who greet customers and begin your drink menu while you wait in line. We ordered the half chicken, Gringa tacos, guacamole, and queso. Little Rey has a pretty extensive salsa bar, with approximately 7-8 varieties. The salsa bar spans the gambit from mild, mid-hot, smoky, and creamy options. The star of the show is the smoked chicken! So good with the corn tortilla, green salsa, grilled onions and grilled jalapeño! Moving forward I'll add an order of the chicken taco to get the perfect bit without the mess! The Gringa/Picadillo taco was good. And while I am a Gringa, and I love a Taco Bell sour cream situation, that almost mayonnaise flavor didn't sit well with my soul. However, the meat itself was super flavorful. I'd ditch the flour tortilla for corn , and opt for another salsa, add pico, and I think we are there. We weren't a fan of the rice, if I'm being honest - but will try again. While I didn't try any alcoholic beverages on this round, I'm stoked to try on my next visit. Plenty of seating, but can get awkward if there are long lines. The party is outside, so that maybe your best bet. Looking forward to grabbing a group of friends for round dos! Northern Mexican: 4.4444
