Excellent Tacos! The restaurant is an average storefront Tacqueria but don't let appearances fool you! They have a very large selection of tacos, and there is definitely something for everyone who's a taco lover. I got al pastor, carne asada and pollo tacos and all are excellent. All the tacos are stuffed full into two soft corn tortillas, and yes FULL! Order at the counter, and they'll give you a container for the condiment bar and some small cups for salsa. The condiment bar had chopped onions, cilantro, pico de gallo and jalapeño, also pickled onion and sliced radishes as well as lime wedges. Also four different salsas, all really good and with decent spice levels. The tacos are $3.50 each, definitely worth the price. You know that you're in a good taco place when you're the only ones there where Spanish is not your native language. Not only that, there were some gentlemen playing some amazing mariachi(?) music live when we walked in. Was a bit disappointed that they didn't have tripa but there are plenty of options available. I love that you can dress your tacos to your liking at the condiment bar which has pico, cilantro & onions, roasted jalapeños & several kinds of salsa. Very delicious & very authentic. I've past by this place for years but never stopped because it's in a little strip mall that looks a little sketchy. My husband wanted Mexican for dinner and looked at places near us and decided we would try this place. One of the best choices he has made for restaurant. When we walked it the menu was posted above the registers and is very overwhelming. Everything was written in Spanish, but had the English translation next to it. Unfortunately none of the dishes explained what was in the item. You place your order and then take a number for your food to be preordered. This is self service restaurant. They serve sodas in a can, so no free refills. We ordered a variety of dishes. And everything was amazing. This place served the best tasting refried beans we have ever had! If you can not have corn, be aware that their rice does have corn and that the burritos have a layer of this rice in them. They offer a fixin's bar/topping bar with a variety of salsas, fresh, cilantro, pico de gallo, and these marinated cooked veggies which included, carrots, onions and peppers in some type of vinegar sauce. I'm always on the hunt for authentic tacos, sopes and Aguas frescas! A little hole in the wall, if you blink you will drive right by it. I noticed the employees wore La Bonita shirts (my fav Mexican store) so I'm not sure if management is taking over. Nonetheless we decided to try a few items. We ordered tacos, sopes and caldo. The food arrived quickly. There's salsa/condiment bar for toppings- definitely add toppings to your order. I ordered the carne asada sope and taco- felt the meat needed a little more flavor and was too over cooked. I tried the caldo de res (soup) that was my favorite, lots of flavors and hearty! Rancho Grande is this little hole in the wall restaurant with some delicious and authentic food! Portion sizes are amazing for the price you pay, and everything was super flavorful. I usually opt for the tacos (~$2 each), and it's such a great deal! Each taco has two corn tortillas and they're packed to the brim with your meat of choice. Speaking of meats, there's a huge selection of meat here, including a lot of more uncommon ones like my personal favorite, chicharron. Most of the meats that I've tried were delicious, except sometimes they can be on the dry side. However to remedy that, I just load up on salsas and toppings from their salsa bar. Aside from tacos, I've also gotten to try their Torta with Al Pastor (spicy pork). It was delicious, with perfectly crispy bread and loaded with your meat of choice and fresh tomatoes, lettuce, and avocado. This is legit Mexican food--delicious tacos with all the fixings at the salsa bar. The hot sauces are spicy--even the 'mild' one packs a punch! I loved everything I tried: the campechano? the al pastor, and the carnitas tacos. YUM! Three tacos are perfectly filling, but my husband wished he ordered a 4th. These are priced well too--it was $13ish for 6 tacos! I prefer this type of Mexican food over the restaurants that have chimichangas, ACP, etc. Much more flavorful. Highly recommend! Even though my order came out wrong both times I've been (ordered and confirmed it in both Spanish and English) and there are no chips available (I know it's a dumb gripe but I am a salsa bar fiend), there's a whole lot to love about this place. The sopes are good and freshly fried, piled high with meat and adorned with queso blanco, crema and lettuce. Topped with some of the super spicy red sauce or some completely serviceable pico de gallo they are quite delicious. Tacos are a bit flimsy but well-priced. Have tried 7-8 of the toppings the cecina, crispy tripe and pastor were the best. Tongue is a bit rubbery but fine, cecina was tasty enough and the barbacoa is totally fine. We went to Rancho Grande on National Taco Day and had an awesome meal! They have authentic Mexican tacos and for a very reasonable price. I ordered an al pastor taco, a barbacoa taco, and an al pastor gordita. Both meats I had were very good, but I actually liked the chicken my husband got on his tostada the most. Our food came out quickly and they didn't skimp on the meat. Then they have a toppings bar where you can add your salsa and peppers. And let me tell you, they definitely bring the heat to the salsa and some of the other toppings. So if spicy isn't your thing, then be careful what you get. This place is the real deal! read more

I went around noon and the line was out the door!! That lets you know that this place is the real deal! The only downside is that the workers speak Spanish and very little English. These tacos are huge for $1.80 and packed with flavor. The chicharrón was hands down the best of them all. You can eat this one without salsa or any condiments at all. It's like a pork belly taco and the seasoning was fantastic. Carnitas were juicy, but I missed the crust that many places have. The Chorizo was mild, I like mine tangy and greasy. The lengua was perfectly cooked and the cabeza was tender and packed with flavor. The salsa bar was fresh, fully stocked and had plenty of options for everyone. I just moved to Cary from Austin, TX and was craving some good, authentic Mexican food. I was soooooo happy to discover this restaurant and it's less than a mile from my house! The first thing I noticed when I walked into the restaurant was that the place was VERY busy and I seemed to be the only white, non- Spanish speaking person in the restaurant. The menu did have the English translations, but judging by the clientele, I was happy I'd found an authentic Mexican restaurant. The woman who took my order was very friendly and did speak English. I ordered three tacos - carnitas, spicy pork and chorizo. The tacos come out plain and you add the toppings you want from their topping bar. The only downside is that the toppings were fairly limited - a salsa mix, tomato, onion, cilantro, jalapenos. I would have liked a few more toppings. Maybe some cheese or beans? Overall, I had a great time enjoying my food and watching the World Cup (which was playing in Spanish) on the big TV. I will definitely be back for more! read more

I came here with my wife, and she got a variety of tacos (chicken, spicy pork, beef, and goat), and I ordered a barbacoa burrito. My burrito was huge and incredibly filling. It came with a side salad, and I loaded up on the spicy salsa from the toppings bar. The flavors were there, the portions were generous, and the price was right. The salsa was also legit spicy, but I loved it. You've been properly warned. My wife's tacos were also tasty - my favorite meat was probably the goat, but I enjoyed all of them. Again, the portions of meat were generous. I also ordered a horchata, which had more spices in it than what I've tried in the past. I actually liked that it wasn't cloyingly sweet, though. Finally found a legit taqueria! It's got pickled carrots and chiles, fresh tortillas, a salsa bar with all the stuff you'd like, and tasty well cooked meats for the tacos and burritos. It helps to know Spanish if ordering but it's not necessary. I was the only gringo here during both my visits. My favorite taco has to be the barabacoa de res(beef), such good flavor in that. One of these times I'll have to try the goat version. Carne asada, el pastor, and carnitas were all good as well. The mojado chicken burrito is awesome, every bite was full of flavor. Unfortunately, the beer selection wasn't too large. The freshness of the food made up for it though! The chicken tacos were so juicy and marinated with incredible flavor. I highly recommend the Al Pastor tacos. They have just the right amount of spice! The tacos themselves were pretty plain (just a tortilla and meat) but there was a bar of toppings to choose from and add for yourself. Very authentic (seeming to me, I've never been to Mexico) Mexican restaurant with fair prices. I got 5 tacos of several varieties including Pollo Asado, Asada (Steak), Carnitas, and Chorizo. I enjoyed every one of them although I think Pollo Asado and Chorizo were my two favorites. They let you control the spice level pretty much, they have a salsa bar where you can apply as much or as little as you like as well as hot sauces on the tables. Nothing to get overly excited about when it comes to the restaurant itself. Lots of seating. The menu is large with lots of authentic choices. Lots of sweets, including tres leches. Order at the counter and they bring your food to your table for you. Large bar with taco toppings and salsas. We ordered a serving of chips. Not your typical paper thin Tostidos chips, but rather thick and crunchy homemade chips. I ordered tacos. I had the pollo, asada and carnitas. Asadas were my faves. Very flavorful steak. All of the meats were moist, flavorful and cooked well. The tortillas were soft, supple and tasty. Toppings from the bar were fresh. Everything mingled together for some very tasty tacos! Very authentic taquería. Just to be clear, a chimichanga is not Mexican food. You WILL NOT find any of that garbage here. Sure the ambiance is a little dodgy, but it is a street food style of cuisine.... I've eaten there at least 50-60 times and never once had sanitation issues. Always clean!! Ever since going to California, I've been on a search for good tacos. This place is pretty close! It's definitely a cheap and tasty way to get your fix. There are a variety of meats you can choose from and some I liked more than other, but honestly, they put them all in one box and I'm not 100% sure what is what....I'll have to ask next time! When the tacos come out, they're just meat in the corn shells. But they have an awesome bar filled with salsa and spices that you can help yourself to. This made the tacos absolutely delicious! Definitely one of my favorite taquerias in cary/raleigh. The goat is outstanding, as is the lengua and cabeza. Believe it or not the reconstituted pork skin tacos were REALLY good here. They always have ceviche but the weekend is the time to go for more options. I rather prefer the ceviche de pulpo. Too, be sure and try the whole fried tilapia. Almost as good as at Los Comales! You're definitely not going to want to take a prom date here. But I took my brother and his family from out of town over the weekend and they loved it. The fixin's bar has a lot to offer and the hot sauces are VERY good. Salsa picante is fresh and just spicy enough. Pupusas, gorditas, tamales are all delicious here; but be forewarned that the tamales are cooked bone-in (read my dental review from earlier; it happens). Great tortas as well. Not a big fan of their horchata, and I love horchata. Finally, the family that runs this place could NOT be nicer.
