This location was located near campus so it was kind of busy with patrons inside the business, the parking lot, & the street parking. The restaurant is spacious with indoor and outdoor seating. There is a self-serve fountain drink dispenser inside. Once inside, you place your order at the counter. The clerk was friendly. I got the arroz chaufa with tostones. It was prepared in a timely manner, was hot, fresh, and tasted good. I would definitely come back.

Alpaca is a great go-to whenever you want fast and delcious food! I love that they have such a great mix of sides and entree options! I went with their traditional chicken and upgraded to a side of their green beans and had black beans as well. They provided a generous portikn of the grilled chicken that fell off the bone easily and was not super salty. The green beans came with a light white sauce that didn't have much of a distinct flavor, but the beans had a nice and easy crunch. The black beans had a spicy and sweet flavor that was so delicious and made me sad that I didn't order another side of these! I could eat the beans just by themselves as a meal! I will not sleep on Alpaca again as it is a delicious option for lunch and dinner! Don't walk, but run to this local option for authentic Peruvian goodness!

Honestly, Alpaca is a classic, no notes at all. Their Peruvian chicken is so tender, juicy & flavorful- I always go for dark meat & it's the right choice haha. I think I've perfected my sides combo, in order of priority from most to least: maduros (sweet plantains), rice with beans, yuca fries, green beans. The upcharge on maduros & rice with beans is definitely worth it imo. We also got the alfajores, soft cookies with dulce de leche, as a sweet treat. In the past, I remember them being filled with strawberry jam, which I preferred to the dulce de leche. Such a filling meal with quick service, good ambiance. They accidentally gave us another rice with beans instead of green beans & when we pointed it out, they immediately gave us a portion of green beans. 10/10 would recommend!

Great little restaurant with amazing food! Very flavorful and enough for 2 meals! Staff was friendly and restaurant was very clean and perfectly located in a cute area with other stores and restaurants to walk to. Definitely coming back for more!

This was our first visit and it won't be our last. We ordered the quarter chicken white meat with rice and beans and green beans as our sides. The staff were very nice and the tables were all clean. We tried the green and the yellow sauces. They were great. We will be back again to try more of the menu.

My friend and I came by for a quick lunch in between classes. I've never been here before, but I've heard nothing but good things! I got the 1/4 dark chicken with sides of black beans and cole slaw. The chicken was well-seasoned and tender! The skin was my favorite part. The cole slaw and black beans were also yummy. It was very crowded when we arrived, and the line to order was pretty long. Luckily, the line went quickly and we got our food soon after. Overall, we had a great experience and will be back!

1/4 dark meat. Rice and beans. Sweet plantains. Green and yellow sauce!!!

Always a must stop for us every time we visit the triangle. The chicken is always amazing and the choufa rivals many of my favorite fried rice dishes. The sides are tasty and a great compliment to the main dishes but it's the green and yellow sauces that are the cherry on top. Don't be afraid to put them on anything and everything! Service is always with a smile and the place is always clean.

    Quarter chicken, 1/4 Chicken White

Chicken was so tender, beans were crisp, rice and black beans were delicious! Green sauce is a bit spicy, yellow is more mellow. Overall, delicious and for a great price.

Alpaca kills it at the Peruvian roasted chicken game. Much better than Viva Chicken, their rotisserie chicken is garlicky and flavorful right down to the bone... you don't even need to eat the skin. The rice and beans are top-tier and the green beans are a decadent, flavorful side. The horchata is great, my wife's lomo saltado was heavenly and freshly made. Walking away from this place makes me sad we don't have such greatness in Greensboro.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this location earlier. I finally made it back after MONTHS of being away from Durham. Everyone was nicer than what I remember and ordering was a lovely experience. As always, I got the pollo saltado and alternated between dipping in between the yellow and green sauces. The food is always quick, hot, juicy, and crisp (when appropriate). i don't like tomatoes and only tolerate most cooked tomatoes. But I will munch on the roasted tomatoes that come with the pollo saltado. I also love that the portion is so large- I will never leave hungry. If you're looking for sides to order, I love their yucca fries and maduros (sweet plantains). I am an Alpaca's enthusiast and I follow their Instagram avidly.

AUTHENTIC! Quick service and nicely decorated…read more Having spent 12 years of my life in Peru, I feel confident with my assessment of Mi Peru. I was in town for business and as in every location I travel to, I look for Peruvian food. This is in my top three. One was in Austin, TX, one in St Louis, MO and now this one in Durham, NC. I had the lunch special. It included a drink, soup and entree. Of course you have to drink Inca Cola (tastes like Squirt with Cream Soda) nice and cold. I'll have to get a Chicha Morada to take with me (which I did, and it was fruity and sweet, like a non-alcoholic sangria with cinnamon). The soup was a chicken and lentil soup with various veggies. As soon as I tasted it, I knew I was in for a treat and prayed the Aji de Gallina would be just as good. It was! Aji de Gallina is a shredded chicken dish made with Peruvian Aji amarillos, nuts, Parmesan cheese. Add in all the delicious spices Peru is known for and you have a wonderful, homey, delicious dish. I will be coming back tonight for dinner. Can't decide if I want the Seco de Res or the Lomo Saltado. Both staple dishes in Peru. Part 2 - so...I was too tired to go back for dinner. BUT, I did order in. I got the Papa à la Huancaina (so delicious, it tasted like I make at home). It is a creamy, Aji Amarillo cheese sauce over yellow potatoes. I would have liked it a little spicier, but I understand having to cater to the general public, so I'll let that slide. But the flavor was as good as you could get. I also opted to order the Seco since I thought it would travel better than the Lomo Saltado. The rice was perfect. Not soggy or spongy. Just right. Flavored with a little salt and garlic. You could eat it by itself. The Seco meat was tender. I didn't even use a knife to cut it. In fact, it pulled apart easily with a plastic fork. I would have liked a little more of the cilantro sauce to soak up in my rice. The flavors were right on, but I love cilantro...so. It even came with a Salsa Criolla (lightly pickled red onion), which is authentic and served with many Peruvian dishes. I ordered additional salsa amarillo just to taste. It's a sauce made with aji amarillo and black mint. I know it sounds weird but it's actually so tasty and fresh. My only disappointment were the beans not that they weren't good and flavorful, but they were pinto beans. I was really expecting mayacoba beans (similar to a white canary bean). Sorry, I ate it before thinking about taking pictures. All in all, I would rate this highly for those wanting to try authentic Peruvian food. My next visit to Durham I'll be trying the Ceviche and Lomo Saltado.

Came here after the Durham Farmers Market with a friend and wow this place was a surprise. …read more I went with the grain bowl and honestly it is one of the best I have had in downtown Durham. It is built on quinoa and rice with black beans and kale, then layered with corn salsa, tomato cortido, guacamole, and a creamy acevichado style sauce that pulls everything together. It is finished with a crunchy mix of pepitas, nuts, and grains. The balance is quite ideal in my view. My friend had the rotisserie chicken with two sides, kale and slaw, and it was just as impressive. Crispy skin, juicy inside, and really clean flavors. Simple food done right and GF friendly. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared. Prices land right where you would expect for the quality, roughly 16 to 21 dollars depending on what you order, and it feels worth it. My bowl plus side of dark chicken was plenty. A few notes. Parking is what you would expect for downtown, so plan accordingly. Service was solid and friendly, but nothing that stood out. The vibe inside is festive and relaxed, bright and open, and just a fun place to hang out for lunch. Porbably not a special occasion. I also suspect it could get loud when full. This is definitely going into my regular rotation. That grain bowl is going to be hard to pass up next time, so instead of replacing it I will probably just add a side or an empanada and start working my way through the rest of the menu.

"Wonderful roasted chicken near Durham South Square"…read more I've loved the other two Durham Alpaca locations for years, but somehow never noticed this one, tucked back beside Chuck E Cheeses at what I think used to be a Boston Market building many years ago (and across the street from Sam's Club & Target). I was very impressed at the large outdoor seating area with the string lights-- looked very modern and inviting. I ordered takeout online, so I was only inside for a moment, but the restaurant was very new and clean. They had the typical area on the side for condiments, including their famous spicy green and milder yellow sauces (and little cups with lids for takeout). I ordered a quarter-chicken dark (always delicious) along with fries and rice & beans. The rice & beans had a 50 cent extra fee. My wife got the quarter chicken dark with fries and maduros (fried sweet plantains). The food was ready when I arrived, and I was handed it as soon as I said my name upon arrival. It was packaged in nice plastic containers-- not so great environmentally but they did keep the heat in and maintained the food well on the drive home. Everything was delicious as always. The chicken is always SUPER moist and tender and scrumptious, made even more amazing with some green & yellow sauce. Their fries are moist and tasty, and the rice & beans had a good flavor. My wife was happy with her food too. The price is really good-- right around $10 for the quarter dark meal deals, before tax and tip. And it's a good portion size overall, too... enough that you're not hungry after, but it's not "over the top" huge. I've always been a big Alpaca fan, and I'm glad to see them spreading to other locations with the same excellent food and fast/ easy service. One tip-- if you order takeout, use their website, not commercial ones like Uber Eats or Grubhub, so you can save a little money. I'm sure I'll be back-- loved the look of that outdoor area!
