    Breakfast Burrito
    Kaitlin P.

This place is a gem! I had the breakfast burrito, which was filling and packed with flavor. The chips were also delicious on the side. I ordered the mango and strawberry margarita and it was hands down THE best margarita I've ever had in my life. Why? It was made with real fruit juice and had the right ratio of alcohol to juice. The service was great-- the staff did a phenomenal job getting my order out quickly (less than 10 mins on a crowded day). Inside the restaurant is a vibe as well. Perfect for a group of friends for brunch, especially on a nice day sitting in their outside seating.

One really helpful thing to me is that the food looked just like the pictures on the website, so check the menu knowing that it's accurate to what you'll get! We got their Thursday torta special which comes with chips and salsa and a drink for $14. The salsa was a huge bowl of pico, like much more than one person would expect, and it was super fresh tasting! The tortas were also a good size and really delicious. I loved the avocado cream! The service was super friendly and accommodating as well. It's a pretty out of the way for us, but I would absolutely go again.

Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. A really cool interior. The carnitas taco was very good with the grilled onions, the tomatillo sauce though was thin and watery. The best part of the meal was the tasty black beans and rice.

Their shrimp tacos was my favorite item that I tried. The carne asada taco was solid and the meat was very tender. The shrimp was that good! I did add queso on my carne as ado tack for a bit more flavor & juiciness & that was great. My second favorite item was the Peruvian chicken. The taste, seasoning, and texture was on point. The Mexican rice and black beans paired the best with it. Not a fan of the green rice but it does taste better with sauce! I wasn't a fan of the enchiladas. It wasn't bad, but definitely wasn't my favorite. I enjoyed the chips and queso over that! I love the drink options they have. I went with a bottle sprite. For the aesthetic, of course! Ranking Order: Shrimp tacos, Peruvian Chicken, Carne Asada tacos, chips & queso, lastly enchiladas!

Frankly, this place is a little far from our home but we had a discount offer and drove out to check them out. We're glad we did because the food was delicious and the service was very friendly. They are part of the same ownership as Town Hall Grill and People's Coffee, which we are more familiar with. We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and ordered chips and salsa, carne asada tacos, and quesadilla O'ya. You order at the counter and they will bring your order to you at your indoor or outdoor table. We chose to sit outdoors even though it was a little hot in the full sun. If this place were closer to our house, we'd come more often.

    Receipt with atrocious add ons

Another restaurant taking advantage of their patrons. So disappointing. They charged us $5 to order pickup plus $.50 for placing an online order plus $15 for a tip! They charged us OVER $20 just for placing an order. No food included. And since when do we get charged a 20% tip on takeout?! And on top of a $5 charge for placing a pick up order? That is STEALING money. They also gave us 1/2 the amount of chips as usual and cut down the food size big time. We were regulars but now will find another place to spend our money. Not a good idea to over charge people when a zillion restaurants are already coming to this area.

Finally made it here - always eat next door at Town Hall Burger but decided to mix it up. Food was really good. We had crab empanadas, fish tacos, carnitas pupusas and cheese dip. Everything was great, fresh and hot - was brought out quickly. Lots of crab in empanadas, lots of pork in pupusas. Very flavorful and prices good for what you get. Can sit outside or inside and folks can go to either place if you need variety. The only nit picky thing - they did not give you ice for drinks - the water and tea dispensers are serve yourself, but were not cold. Rather than have to ask for ice, would be nice to just give you ice when you order or put an ice dispenser out.

Fast casual vibes with order at the counter and indoor or outdoor seating. Small selection of beer and hard seltzer. I loved their Al pastor taco but felt the shrimp taco lacked flavor. The carne Asada was quite meaty and definitely felt full after a few bites! The beef empanada was a surprise star with the tomato sauce that comes with the empanada being my favorite. The guac is nice and creamy as a side ans if your order chips get ready for a whole big bag of chips! Overall I thought the portions were smaller than expected for the tacos but seeing quite a few other diners other specials or bowls it seems that's what I'll try next!!

AUTHENTIC! Quick service and nicely decorated…read more Having spent 12 years of my life in Peru, I feel confident with my assessment of Mi Peru. I was in town for business and as in every location I travel to, I look for Peruvian food. This is in my top three. One was in Austin, TX, one in St Louis, MO and now this one in Durham, NC. I had the lunch special. It included a drink, soup and entree. Of course you have to drink Inca Cola (tastes like Squirt with Cream Soda) nice and cold. I'll have to get a Chicha Morada to take with me (which I did, and it was fruity and sweet, like a non-alcoholic sangria with cinnamon). The soup was a chicken and lentil soup with various veggies. As soon as I tasted it, I knew I was in for a treat and prayed the Aji de Gallina would be just as good. It was! Aji de Gallina is a shredded chicken dish made with Peruvian Aji amarillos, nuts, Parmesan cheese. Add in all the delicious spices Peru is known for and you have a wonderful, homey, delicious dish. I will be coming back tonight for dinner. Can't decide if I want the Seco de Res or the Lomo Saltado. Both staple dishes in Peru. Part 2 - so...I was too tired to go back for dinner. BUT, I did order in. I got the Papa à la Huancaina (so delicious, it tasted like I make at home). It is a creamy, Aji Amarillo cheese sauce over yellow potatoes. I would have liked it a little spicier, but I understand having to cater to the general public, so I'll let that slide. But the flavor was as good as you could get. I also opted to order the Seco since I thought it would travel better than the Lomo Saltado. The rice was perfect. Not soggy or spongy. Just right. Flavored with a little salt and garlic. You could eat it by itself. The Seco meat was tender. I didn't even use a knife to cut it. In fact, it pulled apart easily with a plastic fork. I would have liked a little more of the cilantro sauce to soak up in my rice. The flavors were right on, but I love cilantro...so. It even came with a Salsa Criolla (lightly pickled red onion), which is authentic and served with many Peruvian dishes. I ordered additional salsa amarillo just to taste. It's a sauce made with aji amarillo and black mint. I know it sounds weird but it's actually so tasty and fresh. My only disappointment were the beans not that they weren't good and flavorful, but they were pinto beans. I was really expecting mayacoba beans (similar to a white canary bean). Sorry, I ate it before thinking about taking pictures. All in all, I would rate this highly for those wanting to try authentic Peruvian food. My next visit to Durham I'll be trying the Ceviche and Lomo Saltado.

I live about an hour and a half away, but whenever I have an appointment at UNC, I usually try one of the area's highly rated restaurants. After my doctor's appointment, I decided to place a large order so my family and I could try several menu items. I ordered Chop Chop, 22oz. Jarritos Mango drink, Arroz Chaufa, Green Beans, Lomo Saltado, Rice, Fries, Pollo Saltado, Chicken Soup, Two Half-Chicken, Green & Yellow Sauce, Two orders of Tres Leches Cake, and Flan. I placed the order at approximately 3:25 p.m., and the app notified me that it was ready at 3:45 p.m. I picked it up around 4:00 p.m. The restaurant did not appear to be very busy, so I trusted that the staff had checked my large order before handing me the bags. Unfortunately, when I arrived home, I discovered that some of my orders were missing. I called the Chapel Hill location and initially spoke with an employee who told me I could drive back to Chapel Hill to get the missing drinks. I explained that I live approximately an hour and a half away. Driving another three-hour round trip in an SUV and spending additional money on gas would not be reasonable as they should have been placed with my order in the first place. The employee apologized and said she could not issue a refund at all because she did not have access to the system and no manager was available. She told me that someone would call me back. I later received a call from someone named Lucia or Lucita, if I remember correctly. She explained that she could not process the refund at that moment because she was not at the restaurant, but she promised to take care of it the following day. I told her that was fine as long as she followed through and would not forget. It has now been a week, and I have not received the promised refund or any further communication. I am attaching a copy of the receipt that was attached to one of my food bags. The receipt appears to have been used as a packing checklist, with handwritten check marks beside many of the items. However, the drink listed on the receipt does not appear to have been checked off. Considering the size of this order, someone should have carefully checked the quantity and contents of every bag before handing them to me. The restaurant was not busy when I picked up the order, and the receipt provided a clear checklist that could have been used to catch the missing items. Mistakes can happen, and the missing drinks alone could have been easily resolved. What is most disappointing is that I was promised a refund and then received no follow-up. Good customer service requires honesty, accountability, and following through on commitments. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend the Chapel Hill location. _______________________ MY RESPONSE TO OWNER: As stated above, I have already reached out to the Chapel Hill location and explained the situation in detail. I agreed and trusted that she would keep her word. More than a week later, I still have not received the promised refund or any further communication. Your response now asks me to contact the restaurant again, even though I have already done exactly that and was promised a resolution. I should not have to repeatedly chase your business for a refund after your employees failed to include part of my paid order and then failed to honor their promise to correct it. The appropriate response would be for management to review the order, contact me directly using the information already associated with it, and process the promised refund. The responsibility to resolve this should not continue to be placed on the customer. Your public response also contains unfilled template language such as "contact_name" and "contact_title," which makes it appear that my review and the details I provided were not carefully read before the response was posted. I am still waiting for Alpaca Chicken to follow through and make this right.

I got the two empanadas with aside and was able to try both the chicken and the pork. I think I liked the chicken a little bit more, but both of them were very good and the plantains were also very good. Not overly sweet, but also not super dry. I will say the parking is kind of annoying without parking space directly nearby. Had to park in the parking garage across the street. The server was very nice and mindful of waters and when we needed things. I will say almost $20 for a regular dish seemed very expensive but the food was pretty good so I would probably come back - just for the cheaper empanadas as they were pretty filling as it was. The one thing that kind of threw me off was how they set the table with their water cups upside down, touching the table. I wouldn't say that I'm a clean freak, but also that seems kind of gross to me because that's where my mouth is going to be... I'd probably do something different there myself. It is built on quinoa and rice with black beans and kale, then layered with corn salsa, tomato cortido, guacamole, and a creamy acevichado style sauce that pulls everything together. My friend had the rotisserie chicken with two sides, kale and slaw, and it was just as impressive. Crispy skin, juicy inside, and really clean flavors. Simple food done right and GF friendly. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared. Prices land right where you would expect for the quality, roughly 16 to 21 dollars depending on what you order, and it feels worth it. My bowl plus side of dark chicken was plenty. A few notes. Parking is what you would expect for downtown, so plan accordingly. Service was solid and friendly, but nothing that stood out. The vibe inside is festive and relaxed, bright and open, and just a fun place to hang out for lunch. Porbably not a special occasion. I also suspect it could get loud when full. This is definitely going into my regular rotation. "Wonderful roasted chicken near Durham South Square"…read more I've loved the other two Durham Alpaca locations for years, but somehow never noticed this one, tucked back beside Chuck E Cheeses at what I think used to be a Boston Market building many years ago (and across the street from Sam's Club & Target). I was very impressed at the large outdoor seating area with the string lights-- looked very modern and inviting. I ordered takeout online, so I was only inside for a moment, but the restaurant was very new and clean. They had the typical area on the side for condiments, including their famous spicy green and milder yellow sauces (and little cups with lids for takeout). I ordered a quarter-chicken dark (always delicious) along with fries and rice & beans. The rice & beans had a 50 cent extra fee. My wife got the quarter chicken dark with fries and maduros (fried sweet plantains). The food was ready when I arrived, and I was handed it as soon as I said my name upon arrival. It was packaged in nice plastic containers-- not so great environmentally but they did keep the heat in and maintained the food well on the drive home. Everything was delicious as always. The chicken is always SUPER moist and tender and scrumptious, made even more amazing with some green & yellow sauce. Their fries are moist and tasty, and the rice & beans had a good flavor. My wife was happy with her food too. The price is really good-- right around $10 for the quarter dark meal deals, before tax and tip. And it's a good portion size overall, too... enough that you're not hungry after, but it's not "over the top" huge. I've always been a big Alpaca fan, and I'm glad to see them spreading to other locations with the same excellent food and fast/ easy service. One tip-- if you order takeout, use their website, not commercial ones like Uber Eats or Grubhub, so you can save a little money. I'm sure I'll be back-- loved the look of that outdoor area!
