BBQ Sammich

Driving back to MD had to give NC BBQ a second try (and hopefully not get sick this time). Heard great things about this place across the internet, so decided to stop by. It's definitely a bit out of the way, but I can tell you it's 100% worth it. Beautiful outdoor and picnic area when you park, and you walk in to this old school type of bar/restaurant. Tons of nostalgic items displayed across the walls and behind the bar, as well as a huge black board with specials and drinks which makes ordering easy. I grabbed a local Rice Lager by Funguys Brewing, that sadly was oxidized. Not the bar's fault though, but was really disappointed about that. Went classic and got a BBQ sandwich and fries, which came with coleslaw and hush puppies. Now the fries and hush puppies were perfectly cooked. Crispy with a good crunch, but then soft in the middle. When it comes to the sandwich -- I guess I just don't get NC BBQ. Medium sized sandwich on a potato roll with a bunch of dry, mildly seasoned meat. I dumped 1/8th of a bottle of Pig Whistle BBQ Sauce (only thing available) and it really didn't add much except for the taste of vinegar. Threw the coleslaw on there too, and still just didn't blend right. Now overall, everything tasted good, it's just not my cup of tea. The service was absolutely amazing and the rest of the menu looks phenomenal so I'll definitely be giving it a second try when I'm back down next week!

Best fried chicken sandwich I've had ! Service is excellent and the sides were delicious!!!!!

Fried Chicken, ribs, pulled pork "barbecue"

I would love to give 4.5 stars. Service was super friendly, quick, and efficient. The environment was exactly what we were looking for in a local independent shop. Perfect!!! The food! Unfortunately, they had run out of brisket so we cannot review it. The Fried Chicken, deviled eggs, and smoked wings were all TOP NOTCH. I would order it over and over again! I would pass on the "barbecue" (pulled pork), cucumbers, and fries. They were just average, and this place has so much that's way above average! The ribs were pretty good, but dwarfed in comparison to the chicken products. Really wanted to try dessert but we were WAY too full!!! Hope everyone enjoys this place as much as we did!

Best BBQ we've had in North Carolina. Every meat was succulent and delicious. The sides were all well made and flavorful. Friendly and attentive staff, a pleasure to visit.

Worth the stop from Goldsboro back home to Charlotte. I randomly picked this place because it was open on Sunday, full service, full bar and the food looked pretty good. The food ended up being better than good, it was great! Mac & cheese, baked beans, combo brisket and BBQ (pork), hush puppies. I wish I got the bartender's name but he was amazing and made the experience that much better. It's a cool looking spot too, had the picnic feel but with escalated service and food. I also ordered a banana pudding to go...wish I had gotten multiple! It was so good!

Honey hot wings

We stopped here for a quick little lunch of wings and mac & cheese. Smoked wings drenched in honey hot served with ranch is a love language. The wings came with 3 flats and 3 drums but I switched with my partner to have all flats. IYKYK. We asked to sit outside since it was a beautiful day and our service was fast and efficient. Thank you!

I owe this place nothing. My friends who live in the area took us here on a Friday night. It was…read moreabout 80% full. It was my husband and I's first time having Southern BBQ/ Carolina BBQ and Lawrence BBQ had set the bar high for us. Everything was SO GOOD. We got the Cedar Street Family Platter. It was able to feed 5 of us (3 guys and 2 ladies) and there were leftovers. So perfect for the recommended size. The brisket and the ribs were the faves. Honorary mention to turkey, that pleasantly surprised me. And I'm not a fan pulled pork but I can only have pulled pork from here from now now on. My least fav meat on the platter was the pork belly but it's still ranked at like a 7. That's how good the meats were. The sides were great supporting roles. They weren't spectacular but they're disappointing. The only side I didn't try was the orzo. I didn't get our waiter's name but he was such a delight. He made the experience really good.

Immediately when I walked in, I was struck by jusy how insanely L-O-U-D it is inside. I mean it was "I-can't-hear-you-when-you-talk" loud. And the place was at only about 50% capacity. When I sat down, the table was filthy with a large (4" x 6") patch of dried sauce/BBQ drippings. The staff quickly addressed it, but should I have had to point it out? And when they did address it, they had to put some serious elbow grease into getting it off, so clearly it had been there for a good while. I ordered a brisket sandwich, red slaw, and collards. The sandwich was so-so, the collards were excellent, and I received white slaw instead of the zesty red I ordered. Not once was I asked if things were as I expected. And not once was I even offered a top-off of my tea. And the wait time! Geeze!! It took a l-o-n-g time to bring me my simple meal. By long, I am pegging it at 15 minutes, perhaps longer. All in all, I will go elsewhere the next time I get the urge for BBQ. This place failed me today. One last thing ... as you calculate your tip, note that their prices are elevated so they can share a portion with their employees, so 20% may be going above and beyond.

So…read moresince I couldn't get a reservation on my birthday to the place I originally wanted to go, we decided to come here. There is plenty of parking on the backside of the building, paid parking out front, and be careful not to park in the apartment spaces on the side...they sounded pretty serious about towing. I had made a reservation but it was probably unnecessary as it was pretty empty when we arrived (it was about 5pm on a Saturday.) The waitress brought a bottle of water to the table and took our drink order. And I know that this place is literally call it's a Southern thing but can I mention how much I dislike drinking out of mason jars? I ordered the chicken n biscuits, my husband got the country hamburger steak plate, my BiL got wings, and my SiL got the crabcakes. We also orders charred jalapeno & sweet corn hushpuppies and frickles as an appetizer. I was VERY excited about my food. Y'all...the only thing that impressed me were the Frickles. Everything else was distinctly underwhelming. I also ordered Blackberry Betta Have My Money which was not that great. My SiL ordered a espresso martini that they said didn't come from a mix but she said it tasted like it was. The bathrooms were very clean. The decor and the vibe were great. Cute even. I really enjoyed that part of it. After dropping off our food, we never saw our waitress again unless we flagged her down for drink refills. It was especially frustrating since there was automatic gratuity added. And since the place wasn't that busy, it felt like she didn't feel the need to earn her automatic tip. Overall I was disappointed in my birthday dinner. I won't be coming back here.

IDK what that was but it was not any brisket that this Oklahoma girl had ever experienced. My husband loved their burger though. I tried to order an appetizer, they said they were out of it. I think the bar needs at least one more bartender. I went to order a drink and the bartender never acknowledged me. She was super focused on making drink orders that were brought in by the servers. I did not know we were supposed to order a drink from a server because I was there for a long time before I saw a server. Once I realized I had to order a drink through a server I was able to order a drink and it came in a decent amount of time. I tried to order a beer, they said they were out of it. Really enjoyed their Old Fashioned. I'd go back if a band I really love came through.
