My family was visiting from up north to celebrate my birthday, and Nantucket Grill was the first restaurant we went to for dinner that weekend. We were all excited to spend time together and enjoy a nice meal, especially since we don't get to see each other all the time. Unfortunately, from the moment we walked in, the experience was not what I had hoped for. We were not greeted very warmly by the hostess or the gentleman who appeared to be training with her. The hostess honestly seemed like she did not want to be there, and we were simply seated without much of a welcome. Once we sat down, we waited a little while for waters to be brought to the table. Our server was nice, and I wish I could remember his name, but since it has been a couple of weeks, I unfortunately cannot. However, throughout the evening, we all felt like we were being rushed to finish our meals and leave. It was also extremely hot inside the restaurant, which made the overall dining experience less comfortable. Now, onto the food. We ordered the calamari as one of our appetizers, and I was honestly disappointed. It tasted like frozen calamari that was not of the best quality. There was very little flavor, and the pieces were so small and perfectly round that they almost looked like miniature onion rings. For a restaurant that advertises itself as New England-style and serves seafood, I would have expected something fresher or at least better quality and flavor. My father ordered the ribeye and requested no Cajun seasoning. When his steak arrived, it was extremely flat, almost resembling a country-fried steak, and was mostly fat. He knew he probably should have sent it back, but because we already felt rushed, he decided not to say anything. We were ordering drinks and just trying to enjoy a nice evening together as a family. My stepmom ordered the scallops and felt they were extremely greasy and salty, which was also disappointing. On a positive note, my filet mignon was actually very good! It was tender, flavorful, and practically melted in my mouth. My husband also enjoyed his French dip, so there were definitely some good things about our meal. Before leaving, I ordered a slice of tiramisu cake to go. I absolutely love tiramisu, and after seeing how much Nantucket Grill advertises its large cake slices, I knew I wanted to try it. Unfortunately, this was probably one of the biggest disappointments of the evening. The cake tasted old and more like a plain vanilla cake than tiramisu. It lacked the flavor I was expecting, especially for something I had been looking forward to trying. After our visit, I spoke with a few neighbors about their experiences at Nantucket Grill, and they shared similar concerns about feeling rushed and being disappointed with the food. Looking back at our own visit, I also noticed that many of the tables around us seemed to be ordering salads rather than the seafood or steak dishes that I would typically expect people to enjoy at a restaurant like this. Overall, I really wanted to enjoy this restaurant, especially since we chose it for my birthday dinner and it was the first dinner out with my family while they were visiting from up north. I understand that not every dining experience will be perfect, and I appreciate the things that were done well, especially my filet and my husband's meal. However, between the unwelcoming first impression, feeling rushed, the uncomfortable temperature, and the inconsistent food quality, it was not the birthday dinner experience I had hoped for.
