    Cobb salad... HIGHLY recommended!
    Sarah G.

We considered going out for lunch while we were in Durham but with two young non-napped kids, the thought of traveling to a restaurant, ordering, waiting, eating and then getting out without a meltdown from the kids which would then result in our own meltdown seemed virtually impossible so we ordered room service instead! It only took about 30-40 minutes and our food was delivered to our room! Prices seemed very reasonable. I got the Cobb salad $9 (HIGHLY recommend!!!!) my husband got the burger and fries $10 (which he enjoyed) and our daughter had a grilled cheese with broccoli $6. The only negative is that apparently their steamer was down and they said they may not be able to do steamed broccoli. Well, it came... Was pretty much raw broccoli though. Ah well. A 20% gratuity is already added to your order along with a $1.50 surcharge. I recall seeing that they were open til 10... At least for room service. Definitely recommend!

Salmon with rice pilaf and mix vegetables. This dish was season perfectly and sooooo delicious.

Wonderful atmosphere and delicious food. The drinks were awesome as well. I celebrated my husband birthday here and he was so surprised by the quality of the food and drinks. We have lived by this restaurant for six months and this is the first time actually eating here.

Went here for lunch yesterday with some coworkers. First of all, it took a while for us to be seated. I'd say 7 minutes probably passed before someone came and directed us to our seats. Once we got our order, it took about another 40 minutes for the food to actually come out. Which was kind of ridiculous for what we ordered. We got two Turkey Burgers and two Crab Cake Sandwiches. Can't complain about the Turkey Burger because it was actually quite delicious. The turkey was juicy and the mozzarella with the balsamic glaze complemented each other well. Not a big fan of the pesto mayonnaise. Felt that it was just too salty. Fries were generally good, however some were too salty for my taste.

While staying at the double tree for a retreat weekend I ordered room service from this restaurant 3x the first time was outstanding. Steak was perfectly cooked, so were the veggies and the salad was perfectly dressed. I enjoyed it so much I decided to have breakfast the next morning as well. It too was good. Not phenomenal but the portions were large and filling. Sausage was weird, bacon was oily. After a long day of sightseeing I decided on late night room service, I tried the shrimp and grits with the chicken and rice soup since I had seen other reviews saying the shrimp and grits was phenomenal. It was not. The grits were stiff and probably left over from breakfast- same with the bacon. The shrimp were large and plentiful and the flavors were unique but it very much felt like a "use up all the leftovers" meal that happened to come out ok. The chicken and wild rice soup tasted a few days old and was very thick and gelatinous. I would not recommend the soup. Overall the steak dinner was hands down the star of my experiences.

In the case of Succotash we feel we have found the holy grail... Friendly, knowledgeable waitstaff? check Homey and a little funky atmosphere? check cool soundtrack? check BUT what about the food? We first came for brunch... I had the 'Brisket and Grits'. It was a very tender brisket with cheesy, garlicky grits, scallions with fried egg. The best part? They drizzle some of the brisket gravy over the grits... Oh man this was delish. We got talking about South Louisiana food with our server and he told us they bring in Leidenheimers french bread from New Orleans for their po-boy's. What's the big deal? ...I'll tell you! The bakery was founded in 1896 and it is the ONLY bread that marks a true po-boy to New Orleans natives. Why? Because of it's unique texture. Their loaves have a pillowy soft interior and a crunchy crust that isn't found in most french breads. It's the gold standard for po-boys. So today, I came back to Succotash for an Oyster po-boy. And the Verdict? Five stars mon ami! Leidenheimers bread with a very generous amount of perfectly fried oysters. ...I like mine simple with just lettuce, tomato and a little hot sauce. This was I can honestly say, the very best oyster po-boy I have found outside of NOLA. ... so yeah, I've found a new home... thanks and a tip o' the hat to Chef Juan DiGiulio and the great staff he has brought together!

I enjoyed the catch of the day corvina with a side salad and potato's. This dish was delicious. I got the fish blackened and this was a bold flavor with a spicy and deep smoky flavor. Today I had baked tilapia stuffed with crab + mashed potatoes and broccoli with the crab sauce and it was probably my favorite meal out of everything I've tried there before (their steak, surf&turf and fries are also always amazing). I also got a half slice of strawberry shortcake to go and can't wait to enjoy it later - it looked fresh and delicious:) I've had their chocolate cake before and both times it was excellent. Their drinks also consistently deliver - we've tried both their cocktails and wine. Their wines are always reasonably priced and I've enjoyed them more than in some "fancier" spots in Durham. Love this spot and will be back many more times.

Not that great and the fries were more fried than potato. Maybe 2/5. I got a greek salad with chicken and it was oddly sweet? Chicken was good but not a great salad. Service was super quick, in and out in less than an hour and we take our time eating. Overall, wouldn't come back for food but would totally come back for the cake!!

"Fresh local seafood"…read more I've come here a few times, so I was surprised to see I hadn't reviewed it! Saltbox started as a little shack near downtown but now occupies the place previously held by Shrimp Boats on 15-501 business between Guglhupf and Q-Shack. There are some outdoor picnic tables and several tables inside. I came most recently on a Saturday at 6:30pm. All the seafood here is super fresh, so the menu varies over time. I was excited this time to get crabcakes or scallops, but sadly, they ran out earlier in the day. Hence, I ended up with soft shelled crab platter (with potatoes and slaw), and one dining partner had a shrimp sandwich with the honey tots. The soft shelled crab was maybe the best I'd had, even though it looked a little odd-- super red and "squished". But it was VERY soft and flavorful. The potatoes and slaw were both excellent-- I liked the onions and peppers fried in with the potatoes, and the slaw was a nice vinegary rather than creamy slaw. I had one of my friend's tots, and WOW, those are good-- I'd get that next time. They loved their shrimp too-- I may go for that next time. Service was good-- we checked on our order at one point (see below), and the fellow remembered the name as well as being apologetic for the delay! The only negative-- it was maybe an hour from when we arrived 'til I got my platter. Some of that was the line, but a lot of it was just they were really busy and had a lot of orders (both dine-in and carry out). I probably wouldn't come again at that time of day, given the fewer options and long wait time. Still, EXCELLENT fresh fried seafood. Happy to give it 5 stars.

The cashier was tied up for a moment, but the chef stepped in, asked what I was ordering, and got started right away. That kind of awareness and teamwork goes a long way. This place wasn't a complete bust, but there were quite a few things that I didn't like…read more The restaurant opened at 11 and we were let in around 10:58 (kiddos for them for opening on time). They make you order and pay up front before you can sit down, which was not an issue for us. The 1st issue was none of the tables were cleaned. If we were the FIRST and ONLY guest in the restaurants, shouldn't the tables have been clean? The lady told us to pick a table and she would clean it. The wait wasn't long for the food, but my 2nd issue was the food was laid on the counter at the front and the women yelled to the back "Ma'am your food is ready, come and get it". I was slightly annoyed that we were eating inside the restaurant yet you yell for us to get food to bring back to our table instead of just bringing the food over. Same with the drinks, "come and get it" and laid it on the counter. Lady we are the ONLY people in this restaurant! No utensils were given, we had to fetch them ourself. No crab crackers were given we had to catch someone passing by to ask for them. I ordered the seafood boil for $42.99 (tax included) which includes 2 crab clusters (smalls ones), 6 shrimp, potatoes, corn and sausage. The presentation was nice, but the food wasn't seasoned well. I was not impressed at all by my food. The potatoes tasted undercooked, my corn tasted overcooked , the sausage was ok. The food wasn't TERRIBLE, but it wasn't GREAT either if that makes any sense. My mother ordered the fish and she didn't hate it, but said it wasn't seasoned well at all. Since the food wasn't absolutely terrible I'm willing to give them a 2nd chance, but since we were the first people there on a Monday, I really don't have high hopes they can sell me the 2nd time around.

I ordered the Spicy Fra Diavolo which is a spicy tomato sauce/parmesan linguini pasta topped with calamari and shrimp. I also tried the fried seafood combination of local catfish and shrimp. The fried seafood combo was cooked to perfection. The catfish tasted fresh, without any of the fishy taste that catfish can sometimes have. The batter was crisp, while the fish stayed tender and juicy. The shrimp used for the fry were large and tasty. The pasta was the highlight of the meal, as generous heaps of shrimp and calamari paired well with the balanced flavor of the white/red sauce blend. I look forward to my next visit to Squid's. I…read moreguess Squid's definitely is a staple to the Chapel Hill neighborhood for seafood fixings! My partner and I weren't feeling up for a dine-in, so we decided to do a takeout. We ordered their spicy fra diavolo which was packed to the brim with calamari rings! If you don't believe me, take a look at my picture for proof. After 10 minutes of digging through the pasta, I still managed to find 10 calamari rings, lol. No complaints here though! Just surprised at how bountiful the calamari rings were for the pasta. The sauce wasn't spicy, despite the name stating so, and was sufficient to coat each strand of pasta noodle. As for our second dish, how can we NOT get fried seafood?! So, we decided to go for their combo for any two items. We were pleasantly impressed with the size of the battered catfish. It was MASSIVE! The shrimp, on the other hand, wasn't anything special. Quite small. Not really juicy. If calamari was an option for this combo, we'd definitely go for it! Seasoning was a little salty, but the breading was nice and crispy. Not burnt tasting or oily, and complimented well with the cocktail and tartar sauce. Fries were normal, but quite small in portion. For $30, I'd imagine either a little more fries if shrimps are only 6 pieces, along with a piece of catfish. Food was pretty good! I can't speak for service because I did take out, but it seemed okay. The inside was really clean and had lots of tables! Maybe I'll bring my friends the next time they come visit here.
